Hey there,
I've been reading these forums since the summer and all your opinions have helped me make my decision for the m1330! Just want to say, thanks!
Ok, so, I've noticed the whine on my m1330 - it actually gives me a headache. I am a university student and believe it or not, the whine is actually an issue in terms of the noise it creates for people around me. I saw an individual sitting beside me pick up their laptop and put their ear to it - embarassing!
Anyhow, I am debating whether to call and ask for a replacement. My question is for anyone who has gotten a replacement, when you called in and asked for a replacement, were you able to keep your m1330 until the replacement arrived? Or, did you have to send it in right away? If it matters, I am a Canadian resident.
Thanks!
-
Yes you can keep yours till it arrives and, actually, then just keep the best one. You actually can keep it up to about 2 weeks to compare before you decide.
And Im Cdn as well. -

You won't hear any CPU whine if you are running ac adapter without a battery installed on the laptop.
-
regarding the cpu whine does it happen more on the T7300 2.0 ghz, I just recevied my 4th replacement this one has the cpu whine which is very annoying, is the T7500 2.2 ghz better with no cpu whine. I noticed that on the dell.ca website that they are not offering the T7300 2.0 processor anymore they have the T7250 and the T7500
-
T7300 has been discontinued and replaced with T7250 by Intel, nothing to do with CPU whine.

hi all
i'm sure this has been looked into, but is it possible it's related to the audio drivers? i had a fujitsu which had a similar sound which i was sure was the processor, but in the end was the internal subwoofer playing a interferance noise from the processor? unlikely to be the same i know!!
i wanna get a M1330 but not sure i can face more noise problems!!!
Ok so just been reading more and on Dells site and even they admitt that it's the processor entering the C3 power state, so not really gonna be sound realated!!! -
I just got off the phone with dell tech support as I have the cpu whine on my replacement system he told me that they would replace the system board to fix the cpu whine but he is requesting a replacement as I have an uneven base and they can't send out the feet for the base as they are fused in at the factory so hopefully with the new system there won't be any cpu whine
-
Is there any chance of Dell adressing the CPU whine problem any time soon? I had a m1330 but got a full refund, because I couldn't stand the noice.
Since I really like the design, the specs etc. on this one, I'd like to buy a new one, but not until they've done something about the problem(s)...
Someone who knows anything about it? -
I guess the following will be my final questions on this M1330 thread.
So like I mentioned earlier, right now I have 2 replacements with me and I just got a full refund approval from Dell. So just to make sure, full refund means I will get back the exact same amount of money that I paid for the m1330, right? And the customer service rep said I can put BOTH machines in ONE box even though she sent me TWO return labels. She told me to use either one. Again, just want to make sure if it is legit.
Looking for your feedback. Thanks. -
i would NOT send two back in one box. keep a log and tracking number
of each individual item. I'm on laptop #4 from Dell and have had no
problem w/returns. Dell has confirmed receipt of these laptops via
the tracking #'s and customer numbers. Too much room for error or
oversight if u combined the two. jmo. BYW, so far this 4th laptop has not noise and is working really really well. Mt9 -
I usually scan the signed shipping slip to who ever is in charge of getting the shipment back to Dell - They will email you who is in charge regarding this. When I get the contact info, I usually email the scanned signed slip and communicate w/ the person until the shippment has been accepted by Dell.
Send them back separately. -

is there a dell 'work around' which doesn't require a bluetooth function as my m1330 does not have a bluetooth card fitted.
The best suggestion so far is from my girlfriend who told me to "work harder so it doesn't have to go into power save mode" !! good point i guess!
thanks for any pointers -
One you keep has a little box that should be signed by the company who picks the shippment up. -
Omg.. i'm in trouble. I recently requested a return of my laptop and dell arranged for UPS to pick it up. The only told me to write a DPS number on the box which i did. Since im working during the day, I told my mom to be on alert of the UPS driver. She missed it the first two attempts and they finally picked it up on the third attempt.
I asked my mom if they gave her any sort of receipt, and she was a given customer receipt that is sort of a rectangular shaped sticker and the package contents says "HD Audio 2.0". I checked the tracking number online and it states the weight is 1lb!??!? and it is being shipped to Lockbourne, OH. I just finished chatting with Dell and they told me not to worry. lol.. We'll see about that. -
You know you could've sent it out of your office right?
Anyways, it was picked up, and rather or not if the weight on the box is true or not, it was UPS's responsibility, not yours.
Hope things turns out well though. GL. -
Holy crap I could hear the whine after 1.5 months of ownership!! Well, not really.
It was on battery with 30% charge left. It was then I could hear a very faint whine. Put my ears about an inch from the keyboard and I could hear it clearly. Very annoying indeed.
Plugged back AC power and the noise was gone. Couldn't hear it even in a dead silent room. -
I can hear it in a silent room, its drilling my eardrums... and I'm very self concious about it because i have to study off of my laptop a lot, and when we do study groups i get these dirty looks cause its so damn distracting!
Are they EVER gonna find a fix? I love this computer absolutely but this noise is preventing me from taking it out in public much.. -
I had to return my notebook due to intermittent CPU whines. As I was shopping for replacement, I couldn't find T7300 any more. The Dell rep said that they have discontinued using T7300 as it is the culprit in CPU whines.
-
can i know on wt basis the 30 day return period work..?like on wt basis will they take the pice back..?i am getting a very slight cpu whine in dead drop silent room...is it ok..
-
Has anyone gotten a replacement M1330 that doesn't have a whine? Someone in an earlier thread said it was fixed with a new motherboard revision. Just wondering if they using those now.
-
The other thread said Dell "will" change mobo design which I doubt will happen.
There are M1330s out there w/o cpu whine. It's just luck of the draw.
My first one had horrible whine, and current one doesn't have one. -
-
can anyone confirm that the T7300 CPUs whine more than others??
-
Yes my first unit had same cpu. The whine was causing headache. -
They do not know what causes it, and they do not know how to fix it. I am not buying another laptop until this problem is clearly documented somewhere, and addressed. -
Hi
i have a xps m1330 and it is whining
switching on bluetooh helped.. the whine went from 100% to like 30% but it was still there and when i plugged in my mouse into the usb port the whining came back. so no solution..
i have T7300 and im going to get it replaced hoping that is the reason? i have read few statements saing that it is..
or maybe is it motherboard or still there is no answer to what is causing the whine? -
please someone tell me about the T7500 CPU...are this cpu making whine noise or smth problem with this CPU?
-
I get CPU whine on my current HP NX6110, but only when it's charging and I'm working off it. If its running off the battery, or off the mains when fully charged its fine, but if its running off the mains while being charged and im using it, it whines, and if its just sitting there charging doing nothing, its also fine!
There's nothing DELL can really do about it in all honesty! But I read somewhere on here that the new A05 (now A06) BIOS resolved this issue (probably by disabling CPU state C4...) so if you still have CPU whine, try updating your BIOS!
Iv got an M1330 on the way, if it only whines when being charged and used like my current laptop, then I'll be happy!
I was also in one of the uni labs yesterday, and the lab was filled with a high pitch squeal (CPU whine) coming from the machines! They were DELL desktops!
But some of the other labs filled with the exact same machines have no CPU whine at all!! Just comes down to the individual CPU, or maybe even the batch of CPUs. -
i sent an email to the place where i bought my m1330 and the guys there said that it isnt the cpu that is making the noise but the inverter: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverter_(electrical)
whatever that is :S -
There are NO inverters in PC! ALL PC components run off DC current! And the DC is supplied from the power adapter that plugs into the mains!
So UNLESS your "whine" is coming from the power adapter, then its not that! -
-
where to dl the latest bios, AO6 or whatever?
-
Just got the T7500 today and it definitely has a whine. Its not as loud as some of the videos that I've seen on youtube but it's pretty annoying. Will probably request dell for a replacement if it keeps bugging me for the next two or three days/
-
pakman134: I just got mine a few days ago as well, do you know what version motherboard yours is? Because apparently the A04 revision motherboard will fix it...but I'm not sure if the ones shipped to us already have that or not?
-
Just confirmed with Dell. All new M1330 systems manufactured in Malaysia will now have the new A04 Revision motherboard.
-
I just got the a04 motherboard, it doesn't fix cpu whine...it's the same loudness...
-
-
motherboard replaced, no change experienced. noise still there.
-
I've read through about a quarter of the posts, and didn't see it covered specifically, so my interest is whether anyone elses m1330 barely makes the noise itself (i.e. you have to hold the laptop up to your ear to hear any whining noise), but when plugged into the AC there noise is clearly audible when the output jacks are connected to powered speakers? As in, the noise (just like in the many youtube videos etc) is audible through the speakers, but only when the power adaptor is plugged in... Some sort of ground voltage leak maybe?
I bought this system in pre-order, and it has a T7300, 2GB RAM, 160GB HDD and 8400GS graphics.
Mike -
I know by now that those who have cpu whine have found out their own solutions with dealing with the problem. I have the c04 motherboard with the latest bios and still get the noise when runnning on battery.
I was just playing around and found out, however, that if you put the fingerpring reader into the sensor scrolling feature the noise, at least for me, dissapears a great deal. I have tried the bluetooth and the usb options before without any success. But for some reason this works for me. -
After numerous pointless exchanges with Dell spanning the 2 months since I bought the laptop, regarding the whine in my 1330, I have come to the unavoidable conclusion that the only way to solve the problem is to get rid of the machine (donate it to a deaf charity) and buy a non-Dell laptop.
Dell actually replaced my 1330 (reluctantly), same problem in the new unit. They then replaced the motherboard and fan/heatsink unit in the new one; same problem. They promised a refund a month ago - still waiting.
It's a sunk cost for me, I like to work at night in a quiet room, so I'm buying another laptop Sony or Toshiba probably, and I'll never touch a Dell again. -
I have the cpu whine but i also have another problem. My hdd makes very annoing clicking sounds.. the interval varies from 5 seconds to sometimes few minutes whitout a click but then again the interval deacreases and the clicking becomes very frequent. I have made a video of this, check it out ( you can here the "click" @ 05, 07, 18, 24 etc )

i want to describe this problem to technicias so the could replace my hdd. what exactly should i say.. what could be the problemLast edited by a moderator: May 6, 2015 -
btw i had this problem with my desktop shuttle and a motherboard replacement was needed, this may be helpful:
this one not so much

try this one:
http://www.sudhian.com/index.php?/forums/viewthread/69562/
it refers to under stress the component with coild are vibrating and the fix is to use soem sort of glue to keep it stil
BTW if o rder now woudl i be free from these problem, and i will be ordering to a USA addy and taking it to the u.k so if i get this problem will i be able to send it to dell uk -
For the hard drive clicking problem, call dell
They should be able to understand because there have been many others who have had this problem. -

just throwing it out there:
Whenever I set my battery setting to power saver the sound disappears. But on high performace, I can hear it. -
