    Hello,

I live in Belgium and just bought my m1530 a few days ago. But I didn't get the option of selecting a LED screen. Is it possible that all screens are LED? How can you check this? Also, how can you check whether you got a samsung or LG screen?

    Thx

Ok, everyone, not sure why no more LED photos, so since I got mine yesterday, here are few (little better quality).
These are comparison photos for M1530 LED vs. E1505 WSXGA. Huge difference, maybe 1525 has a better WSXGA (not tested). Also, my Sony R1 mettered few photos by darker images (E1505), therefore LED screen is overexposed. Sorry, did my best with these. Let me know what you guys think! Love the screen, flawless, perfect color and brightness! Can't be described, must see to believe!

First Shot --> Top is M1530 screen with LED, Top is E1505 (WSXGA).
Next --> two laptops, turned off. Nothing to see here, really, except that E1505 is too glossy!
Second comparison shot --> Logon screens.
Third shot - same Vista backgrounds, E1505 (WSXGA left), M1530 on right (LED 1440x900)
Another shot - little closer. Same setup!
Individual screens: M1530LED vs. E1505 WSXGA (separate shots, not crops from same shot, therefore metering shouldn't be a problem)
Another background - On this setup, LED screen is overexposed. Close up shot!

Ok, that's about it. What do you think?
In case anyone noticed, the icons and fonts on my E1505 (WSXGA) are a little larger then with default setup (used Dell QuickSet to set icons/fonts to normal, up from small, but not too much). Hint, for those that bought WSXGA and think it is hard to see, if it comes with QuickSet like my E1505, you can make icons/fonts bigger without changing resolution, which makes perfect screen blurred. IMHO, 1440x900 LED is just perfect for M1530!
Again, sorry, did my best with these! Oh, you can either view full size files (3MP) or download originals and make your own opinion, look above each foto for link to original size! Good luck.

Nice pics cool. Just got mine last night but only had a little time to play with it. Gotta agree with you, after playing with the settings a little, the 1440x900 LED seems just right for this size notebook.

And the cool thing is that with LED and 6 cell battery, it only weighs 5.6 lbs according to my digital scale... Without LED, it is 6.2 lbs, so big difference for me!

    Hello ,

Ive also got my 1530 screen in front of me ,how do I know whether it's LED or CCFL ?

Dell India doesn't have these LED/CCFL options .It simply has option of 1440x900 WXGA+ screen .

    Actually, per the Dell website:

"The LED display starts at 3.97lbs and is 0.87 inches thick compared to the standard display which starts at 4.28lbs. and is 0.97 inches thick."

So the standard display weights less then a third of a lb (.31 lbs.) more then the LED, and is a tenth of an inch thicker.

According to your scale, that means the standard display would weigh 5.91.

Anyone changed your order from CCFL to LED? I am wondering if it is possible since Dell has stated my ship date isn't until 5/28/08 for the 1680x1050 CCFL. Seems like it shouldn't be a big deal to me but was wondering if anyone has any experience with changing an order that they have placed?

I canceled two of my orders and replaced them. If you used your Dell credit line and need more credit you have to call in to cancel your account and have your funds put back in instantly.

Both you said are the top one lol.. which one is on top?

Nvm the LED is the one on the top.. figured it out by looking at the shots later on individually.. that is a HUGE difference. Soemthing else I note that the lighting seems to be very even across the screen. The E1505's screen seems to have patchy lighting and very uneven.. colors are a lot better too and there's detail in the photograph you can't even see in the E1505.

The industry has switched over to LED backlighting for their LCD TVs over a couple years ago. Most high-end automobile companies switched over to LED tail-lights (and turn signals) over half a decade ago. Some industries, e.g. the laptop industry, are slower than others. Primarily because of cost and as more players jump into LED manufacturing, the costs are going down.

Years from now we'll be asking the same question: why did it take us so long to switch to SSD from typical disk drives? From DVDs to Blu-Ray? From analog to digital broadcasting? Same reason.

Hey, so sorry about the late upload of the pics. I'm settled now, so here we go. I don't have a tripod, so it's really hard to get a focused picture. The LED screen may be extremely bloated out in the photos, but looking at it physically, there's no unevenness. Very Vivid and high contrast even compared to an LG :) . I hope this thread will be a good guide to those who are debating to buy a CCFL or an LED. I'd definitely go for the latter. I've had both and I'm sticking to the LED.

LG on the left, LED on the right. Feel free to leave feedback.

Haha, I was going to send you a link to the WUXGA, but I see that you already saw them =). That guy had a very nice setup. WUXGA would be heavier, and you'd probably feel like you have a more rugged mobile laptop. If you're the person that's going to be constantly carrying the m1530 around, you probably should get an LED for lightness and for better battery life as well. WUXGA is Samsung, but I haven't heard of any grain issues with it yet. I haven't heard any from LED either. Seems like Dell is listening to their customers.

Hey, thanks for the pictures. They look amazing. I got a question for your about the brightness between those screens. How much brighter LED over CCFL? 3-5%? 10% or more? a tad brighter?

    Thanks :)

They are at stock display settings. Hmmm comparing the two, you can obviously tell the LED is brighter. Percentage wise? It's hard to give a definite answer, but it's in the ball park of the LED being 5-10% brighter. You can see a small comparison of the pic showing the NBR website. Look at the brightness of the reflection on the keyboard. You can see a major difference there. Did I mention how great it looks? ;)

I didn't weigh them, but it is noticeably lighter. I can only imagine how light it would be with an SSD.

100 grams sounds like a good weight difference.

Unfortunately, I already returned the CCFL m1530. The LED was the replacement laptop. They both have 9-cell batteries, but I'm sure LED will give a longer battery life despite the brightness coming from it.

I'm not sure if this will help, but I let my friend borrow my ac adapter because she needed to recharge her Inspiron. While on power saving mode (with Vista Battery Saver installed) The brightness was brought down to low, Vista Aero turned to Vista Basic, and the sidebar was disabled. Playing moderate gaming, where the fan turns on every 5-10 minutes, I got about 2.5 hours and I had about 15% left on the battery meter. This was on the LED.

If it's been more than 21 days, there's a very small chance they will upgrade your m1330. I only got it because I called on the very last day of my return period.

Afaik, there's no connection between LCD type and backlighting technology. It may of course be that there has been more cases of grainy screens with CCFL backlighting then with LED, but this so-called grain effect is not due to one or the other backlighting technology.

LED does however, provide much better clarity, color reproduction and contrast. On the Toshiba Portege for example, while the CCFL screens are slightly grainy, the LED screens are crisp and clear.

Anyhoo, your M1530 is upgradable if the LED ever comes out. Though you may have to either manually install it yourself, or have them install it for you. Only question is whether or not the inverter for CCFL and LED is the same, which I *think* is.

Not bad pics, and w/o a tripod, even :)

I have a tripod and sharp lenses and so on and so forth but taking pics of panels for detailed inspection is pretty much impossible. In fact, if you manage to focus dead on the screen, you will see a moire pattern develop... :(

Here's a few pics of my 1330 just to make my point a little clearer. All the pics of the panel have a sort of "fly-screen" appearance which of course is not the case in reality. So don't worry, your pics are about as good as it gets and I don't think you'll find one professional Reviewer that has tried to compare panels by way of photos...

Will they do it only if under warranty? What if i can pay for it? I mean, can't i do it even if its more than 21 days old.

I don't think LED will come to my country any sooner, but would like to upgrade when it comes.

So would i be able to do so?

I just got my m1530 with the LED screen. Don't have much to compare it to besides my 3007wfp-hc, but it looks awesome! Haven't tried any games yet, but I doubt ghosting will be an issue. I do know that my machine, with the 6-cell battery, only weighs 5lb 10oz. Light & slender!

Has there been no news of the LED screens for the 1530 coming to Europe yet? Not even a whisper?

I'm holding off buying incase it happens soon but am getting inpatient. :)

Oh and whats the kb feel like on the XPS's as I really like the kb on my works Dell Latitude D630. Thx for any thoughts.
