Ya, my laptop is still in production and in build stage. I hope to get it by middle of next week. One can dream can't he...
-
Maybe blurry was stretching it.
The only content i use is BD movies and games on my PS3; i dont have cable and watch analog OTA news sometimes. I sit about 8 feet from an XBR2 and can tell the difference between 720p and 1080p when i force my ps3 to output BD in 720p (my laptop is an 11.1 inch 1366x786.. maybe that explains it). You can definitely tell the difference in gaming (although, for that, i sit about 3 feet
).

I am kind of..sort of...maybe..well yes: laughing a bit...cuz well it's kind of funny the Saga of orders...
Well...maybe..perhaps maybe you will have a surprise in the AM? When the sytem updates *overnight* from being *overworked* by all us Dell customers!??
The little Dell Minions..could be processing it right now!
They are...didn't you hear...The Dell Minions are working overly hard to get all of your orders into the *build stage*
Kidding, I hope they all process NOW for you guy's!

Well...in my case, I had it ordered directly from the Dell CSR and once we agreed on the discounts, she was the one who did my order and then immediately sent me an e-mail with the component list/order #. I then verified the e-mail order and she went ahead and put that into the system. Then she sent me another e-mail with the order/customer#. This whole thing happened when I was still on the phone with the CSR.
I know Dell has a bad rep but I had a VERY GOOD experience with the CSR in how efficient they were in setting up my order (and agreeing to my terms for the discounts)!! I'm very glad I got the 2 yr warranty on the XPS16 too in case something goes happen after the original year...... -
That is the exact same experience I had with my Dell rep. I told her to send me a quote so I can look it over, and then when I approved, I got a final confimation email with my ID and order number. BTW, I only opted for the 1 yr warranty, anyone know if you can add more years later on?
-
Yes you can....sometimes they will contact before your warranty has expired, and try and sell you a few more years of it!
Cin
-
wow i didn't know that they would offer more warranty after the initial year. I have a friend who is a dell field technician so i wasn't too worried. If something goes wrong i could just take the laptop to his house and have him look at it. For those who have bought the new xps16 could you tell me what your options were and how much you bought it for ? i'm getting quoted in the 2500 range. I plan to order as i need a laptop.
-
I opted to go aftermarket for everything. So the only option I selected was the CPU upgrade to T9400 and RGBLED screen + loJack. With EPP it came out to $1,800cdn before taxes.
-
Yeah, they did this for my bro' and another friend when their warranties were nearing the end
Cin
-
Same here. Someone at DELL's must have fallen asleep trying to fasten that one screw...
-
+1. I've dealt with Dell in Denmark many times now and they have always been quick, friendly and handled my orders with no errors or fuss.
I got a $500 rebate + 3 years warranty (compared to 1 year) for a maxed out XPS 1640 I just ordered.
I then forgot to include a Wireless 5530 Mobile Mini-Card and he threw that in the pot, asking only 1/4 of its retail price. They have always been good to me, but I have also always been good to them
-
Generally it means that they haven't been able to process your payment method. You don't get an order number until then. I received an email the next morning confirming my order and giving me an order number.
When I log into my account on Dell my orders are in the upper right corner and tell me the status of any new orders. I don't have to enter any info. But there is nothing for you to check the status on until the order has been confirmed.
Give them a call and find out what happened to your order! -
You sure can. I do it all the time. Just make sure you remember to add another year before your warranty is up. I've done that, too! Discovered I forgot to do it when my son's motherboard died in the 13th month.

A DVD is 480 lines, 576 at best if you are watching PAL movies.
The bluray software will adapt the image to your resolution, from 1920x1080 down to 1366x768. As you can see, you will see 300 more lines, and the same applies vertically speaking. It will NOT be 720p, but 768p, the best possible for your screen.
And even if you cannot see all the details, you will still have a better image than with a DVD, it's pretty obvious. Also you can benefit from the new sound tracks, and see the movies in their full HD glory through the HDMI output.
Talking about fullHD vs 720p, technically speaking, on a 16" screen, you cannot see the difference between the two resolutions at a viewing distance longer than 3 feets. The human eye can't make the difference at this distance. However, as a 720p image will be interpolated (the source is 1080p), it won't be a native resolution image, it will loose details. So this distance is not correct. What is the right one? I have no idea, but if you look at two screens, a 720p and a 1080p, side by side, at the theoretical distance where they look the same, you can see the difference, it's obvious. 720 does not look crap, but you can see the difference. I don't know if you would still see it a 6 feets for instance, probably not. It all depends where you will be sitting. And even before comparing those numbers, you should simply look at a HD movie on a comparable 720p screen, and if it looks great to you, then save some money to buy BR instead of a full HD screen. You can use the HDMI output to enjoy it on a big screen later. -
The Dell Studio XPS 16 doesn't seem to come with a remote control - is that right? Seems a bit surprising for a laptop that otherwise seems very hot on multimedia.
-
Dell,
Please integrate the HD 4670 into the XPS 16
http://news.ati-forum.de/index.php/component/content/article/236?joscclean=1&comment_id=297#josc297
Translated
I would then buy one.
Thanks for listening,

I've just been in a chat with a dell person and asked about 3D marks06 score for the XPS 13, and he said it should be around 3500.
XPS 16 is around 4850 (but we already know that..) -
Having a 4670 in this thing would solidify this as my notebook to buy right now,a brilliant mix of multimedia, size, mild gaming performance, and style. I so wish i was in the market for a new notebook right now.
-
A 4670 would be great, but keep in mind we still have no idea about how the new ATI cards perform.
Whoever receives this laptop first NEEDS to do a battery life check. I hope that NBR review system was a defect
-
What specs??and price??
-
Hey! My order showed up and went into production! Glad to see it comes with Roxio and PowerDVD software still
Hopefully this sucker will last a few years of heavy use.
-
Has anyone in Canada ordered their sxps 13 or 16? What time frame are you getting for delivery, thanks. And, are there any non-epp coupons?
-
Hey guys, I might be one of the first to get my xps1640. I'm supposed to have it by the 19th if not sooner. I was wondering has anybody else had problems trying to get a 9 cell on it?
-
Nice
Told yah those little Dell Minions would be working hard overnight to get yours, and everyone elses into production!
Cin
-
I was told by my rep that it comes with a remote control when I asked her.
-
That would be really cool if it does.
-
That's awesome. I may consider it. We shall see.
-
sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
Ahh I cant wait till ONE of you has it and posts PICs and battery usage!!! And what came with it and how do you like the feel of it, ahh I will have my questions ready - thats for sure!
-
Yup....and hopefully they will sell to you for a good price..I know they did this with both my bro's lappys
He did the *let me think about it and get back to you* method
And, it worked.
Cin
-
lol! Thanks for the tip!
-
NP, it's cool!
When is your ESD, again??
Cin
-
Jan 29th, with a delivery date of Jan 30th
-
When did you order? I ordered the 13th, got a notice today (15th) and my estimated ship date is February 3rd.
Order date (real): January 13
Order date (Dell): January 15
Estimated Ship Date: February 3 -
Very nice...less than 2 weeks away..and hopefully it shall ship sooner..ESD I always say is over estimated ~ as it usually is!
Cin
-
Order date was January 12th over the phone.
-
I certainly hope that is the case. Would love to have this laptop by end of next week
-
Ordered mine on the 8th. Expected arrival to my door is January 29th. I have EPP. Unfortunately, I don't know of any coupon. You may be able to wiggle a bag or a gift card. The bag is standard on all order I make.
-
I ordered my 1720 the week they were released and it took 51 days to get it! I just hope they are better prepared for this release.
-
Yes, that would be really nice
*fingers crossed for everyone*
I would hope, and think that they are *better prepared* this time around.
During design, and final implementation..they would have had to known both these would be great sellers for them!
51 days for you?
That's way too long....
Cin
-
OK. Thanks. That sounds reasonable.
If i cant get any cash back or discounts, i wont bother since i already have a bag and prob. wont buy something from them anytime soon. -
Your order date is the date it is confirmed. Once it is confirmed it is added to the production line.
We placed our orders close to the same time and my Order date is January 13 and estimated ship date is January 30. -
I'm not able to get the 9 cell option on the 16 on dell.com
What kind of improvement is there going from DDR2 to DDR3 ram? -
My spare AC Adapter shipped! So...I can look at that
None at the clock speeds currently in use. The higher latency negates any real advantage. Same situation as when DDR2 first launched, though of course long term it'll be better. -
So if I were to buy a 16 with 6 GB of DDR3 ram it might as well be DDR2? (with a couple hundred dollars added to price)
EDIT: Is your ac adapter (for a 16?) a giant brick or more practical in size? -
Yeah, that's what I'm remembering from Anandtech and the like, although right now it looks like a 4GB DDR3 DIMM is about $150 more than a 4GB DDR2 DIMM.
Sorry, I don't have it yet. I guess it'll get here early next week. -
I have ordered a XPS STUDIO 16.
ESTIMATED ARRIVAL: 10 February or early -
My 13 has a ship date of Feb 1st. This is my biggest concern...not actually having a 9500m in it.....
"Re: Studio XPS 13 GPU misleading?
what we are actually getting is integrated 9400m + dedicated 9200gs (which will look seemlessly to your system as a 9500m
on the fly it will manage performance and power requirements, and enable the 9200gs hybrid gfx boost as need.
to the end user it will be seemless, it will say 9500m is the control panel, the user will not have any idea that the 9200m is even there ... (the hybrid sli switching is on the back end of things and will be performance on demand)
so essentially in your 1340 it will show 9500m in the control panel.
on the backend driver side of things its actually a 9400m + 9200gs, that is in hybrid sli, and will delivery power and performance on demand.
i have no idea what performance to expect though, i would assume it will be like a lower end 9500gs (hence the 9500m naming scheme)
this implementation of hybrid sli is new, and is not simply just switching between integrated and dedicated." -
If it's really seamless that would be awesome, but to date, neither Nvidia nor ATi have made anything that handles that remotely seamlessly, and to my knowledge there's nothing special about this that makes it any more seamless than regular SLI.
-
I hope Dell includes the 16 in their 9 day sale going on now.
How do you get the 9 cell battery option? Dell.com only shows the 6 cell. -
It doesn't matter how seamless Hybrid SLI and GeForce Boost work, there is no way it will deliver 9500M GS speeds. Not even normal SLI can double performance.
Dell Studio XPS 1340/1640 now available for purchase on Dell's site !!!
