Maxed out hardware wise, except for battery and mem (4GB). You probably can't compare the price to where you live, but mine was $2631 including discount.

So, for you Americans, a maxed out 1640 in Denmark is approx. $3160. Jaw dropping, ain't it? :D

A maxed out 1640 where I live in the U.S. is probably close to $3160 or a small bit more after tax. If memory and battery wasn't upgraded, it would be around that.

    EDIT: No discount on that

A P8400 and 320GB HDD is not "maxed out".

Or is that the best option in the Denmark store?

Wow, I just did a config on the AUS Dell store and both Dell Studio XPS 13 and 16 start off maxed out and are around $300 USD cheaper than their US counterparts.... And that's with absolutely no discounts.

EDIT: Lol, the AU Studio XPS 16 is $550 cheaper than the US Studio XPS 16 :).

I don't know if I will end up with it. I may have to cancel if it doesn't arrive before Feb 8 as I really need it for school.

I have a backup MacBook Pro waiting to be bought if I can't recieve it soon enough.

May not work for a system this new, but I had a couple of XPS M1530's that were taking awhile back in October, called up Dell and said I REALLY needed them ASAP for school and stuff. Of course their response was we can't rush anything, this is your estimated ship date, blah blah, all the usual stuff. But the very next day I had them on my front doorstep.

Give Dell a good few weeks to get your XPS Studio put together, but if it doesn't arrive within a week of the ESD, just call em and bug them a little bit, couldn't hurt, especially if you mention you might migrate to the dark side.

    Hopefully!

Mine is still in Phase 3. It seems they're waiting for a few parts? Or is that already done when the NB enters the "assembly" phase?

Ordered: Jan 13. ESD: Feb 6.

How many phases do you have (in the U.S., i presume?)

In Germany, there's 5 phases, and production is phase 3. We don't have a testing phase... phase 4 is already preparation for delivery.

plasma, your specs sure look maxed out... impressive! Hope you'll be just happy with it.

Tell us how it is to work with a SSD, ok? I'm really curious.

@all: I wonder if DELL went ahead and announced the new XPS at CES, but wasn't quite ready 100% internally yet. I mean, the assembly of a NB usually doesn't take 2-3 days. I'm really anxious to see whether the delivery dates will work out...

I am sure there is a high demand right now and they still need a litte bit of time to trim the processes. So it's just normal that i takes a bit of extra time now, compared to in a few months.

    Hey there,

It depends on your *wants and needs* out of either lappy! ;)

If I were to be ordering, I would go for the 13', as I already have the 1530. And, I know now..that I want my next lappy to be a 13".

Both lappy's have great features! Think of portability, price points, specs, and again..your uses! :D

Yeah, it depends on my needs.. i know. I want to play some games on it, and i yet don't know the performance of the XPS 13.. I'll wait for the reviews i think.
I also want the laptop to be very portable, that's not too heavy to take it to work everyday, an ofcourse being able to pick it up on my lap to work on the train..
Do you think the 1530 is portable?

Where are the reviews on the 13?? :)

Yep, for me getting a notebook that will fit my needs is most important (also pricing) :D

I am 5'4 and petite, and I have found the 1530 to be pretty portable for me. I just really like the look and design of it also. It's a year old next week..and works awesome.

Both the 1340 and 1640, are very nice. I would just prob's lean toward the 1340 :D

I transport my 1530 in a backpack or a messenger bag..which also helps with the *portability* issue. But I have no prob's taking a 15" notebook from one room to another, etc. :D So, a proper fitting backpack, or messenger bag also helps :D

I have not seen any *specific* reviews on the 13", yet. But I'm sure there will be some coming out fairly soon! :D

    Cin ;) :)

The sxps line is kinda weird in terms of weight. The 13 inch is 4.85 lbs (almost 5) which is kind of porky for a 13 incher. While the 16 inch is about 6.4lb which is in line with the larger 16.4 inch VAIO FW line.

I'm in the US. If you go by the order status from my account they have 2 stages. In production and shipped... you have to call to find out the details. Not sure how many stages they do have but after testing comes shipping prep/transit, then shipping.

I'm impressed at how fast it is going. I never expected to be at the testing stage in 2 days.

for those concerned about the weight

the old white/black 13" macbooks are 5 pounds
the new slimmer ones are 4.5 pounds

i have a white one and it doesn't really seem that heavy

i've ordered a 1340 and 4.85 pounds seems ok to me

Dang, that's fast. My order date counted as yesterday (even though it was really the 13th), so maybe...

I didn't know that! Thanks for the info.

Okay, I called, and they said I'm in testing phase!?! But it still says estimated ship date is Feb. 3rd?

Geez, I'd better order my hard drive and HDMI -> DVI cable (can anyone recommend a good one?)

Oh, and I think I'm going to be really happy with the 1368x768 screen, as I was helping a friend yesterday with their 15.4" 1280x800 computer, which I found to be very easy to use. (The 1440xwhatever Macbook Pro I've used was too high.) This should be just a little bit bigger, and almost the exact same resolution, so I'm expecting it to actually be usable.

Actually that screen-both the fact that it's not a crazy resolution, and the LED backlight, are two of the biggest reasons I ordered it.

Well, now I feel silly. I picked fast shipping on my hard drive and cable, 'cause I thought the system might ship today or Monday. I didn't realize it has to ship somewhere else first.

I wanted to order the hard drive Sunday or Monday so it would spend less time bouncing around (maybe), but hopefully this will be okay. I should probably buy Spinright and run it prior to using it. (Hate having to take the whole bottom off to swap!)

Oh nice. Well I ended up ordering a few seconds after I posted that first message, and randomly picked Tripp Lite for about $16, 'cause I like their surge protectors, and hopefully this'll work okay. (Come to think of it, I hope it supports 1920x1280 or whatever...) And I hope that HDMI port will hold up to being plugged and unplugged every day, though I guess USB should, and it's similar...

And....aaaah! I'm doing this all wrong. I could have gotten the same drive from Amazon for effectively cheap 'cause of my Prime. Doh! Well, hopefully Newegg will package it better. I THINK usually they're good about that.

Can't believe I finally have a new 'puter coming! This had better hold up to crazy folding!

Now I need a crazy sale on the Inspiron Mini so I can Fold on an Atom :p

Ohh, I think the I9's and I12's just came down in price...and, you can get I9's at an awesome price at the outlet..NOT, that I'm trying to entice you or anything!~ :p :D  ;)

I have a Prime account too...(a dear friend gave me one of his memberships) :D Prime = Great shipping, deals! ;)

Anyone know any good laptop bags that would work with these 16" laptops? All I see are 15.4 and 17" bags.
