Try ebags.com, and I'm thinking a 17" is going to be a good size for this one.

Swiss Gear makes great bags :D I can attest to that! ;) Try a search on amazon.com for Swiss Gear!

My ordered came with the 17" Belkin Messenger bag. The bag arrived last week. It's not bad looking for a free bag. It's supposed to be a compact bag. But it's pretty darn large. I'm still not used to these 17" bag. I hope we'll see some compact 16" bag soon.

Actually, when i ordered mine, i talked to the sales rep about bags, and he said that the XPS 16 actually fits just fine in a 15.4" backpack. They had a demo and he tried it while i was on the phone.
Now of course, one 15.4" backpack isnt the same size as another, but take it for what its worth. If you dont want a 17" backpack i suggest you wait till you get the computer and try in stores. ;)

Hmm that is interesting... I do have a SwissGear 15.4" backpack that I had bought when I thought the Dell Studio 1537 was going to be the notebook for me. I guess I will wait and try it out in that backpack befor buying a new bag. Thanks!

This is weird, but I can't find Dell's outlet to look for those minis :D Not that it probably matters, 'cause I don't like used stuff, I'm weird about it, so it would have to be super cheap. If I could get a new one for $300ish that actually was useable (comes to more like $400-450 to really get them useable for me).

I like that the Dell is supposed to be quiet, and have something resembling a keyboard (those Asus ones are TERRIBLE).

I've been wondering about that. I didn't order a bag because Dell sent me a free 15.4" Swiss Gear bag a year or two back. It seems really nice, and it seems like theoretically this might be close enough in size.

Otherwise I've been assuming a 17" bag should fit it (though there are 17" systems that don't fit in normal 17" bags...)

I'm baffled by why the bag companies don't have 16 and 18.4" bags out. These systems have been out since summer (or just relabel or alter the 15.4" bags to also fit 16" systems, or whatever).

    I know, you don't like *used* lappy's, but take a gander anywho..if you want :D ;)

As, you know Swiss Gears tend to be somewhat larger..so there is a good chance, your lappy will fit into it ;)

Probably well enough to handle the heat of the 1340 and 1640, long enough for it to start cracking though. When I think about that leather and the heat these produce, I start thinking about beef jerky! ;)

I was wondering if you guys think the heat issues will be taken care of by Dell in a few months? I am looking at one of the 1340s or 1640s for myself but dont want a hot plate on my lap!

Have we heard anything from Dell about putting Windows 7 on their laptops? I know that it is only in beta right now, but I am interested. I know some computer manufacturers are talking about giving out upgrade "coupons" for anyone who buys a computer with Vista on it, starting in July.

I don't think heat issues are really that bad. The highest was 115 F which is only 46 C...

EDIT: I believe it the NBR review also says that was after running a couple of benchmark tests and 30 minutes of a BRD movie.

Wonder why they didn't benchmark at the native resolution in the 1340 review. Funny how the translation is at it's most unintelligible, ok you do get the gist, at the video performance portions.

What heat issues? We haven't heard of any with the 1640 that I'm aware of. Supposed to run cooler than the 1530 even.

According to their specs page, they are supposed to be offering a 9-cell option, so it's probably coming soon. Also, apparently you should be able to get up to a P9600 (2.66Ghz) CPU.

Se the Tech Specs tab here.

I notice on the US website, it has the 9-cell battery option but not the faster CPU option. So it could possibly be a typo.

Great. As I was saying and this confirms that once again, the system supports 8 GB of RAM with a 64-bit OS, supports faster processor (P9600), the 9-cell battery is mentioned as another option in the Design section on Canadian site, but it doesn't appear in the actual configuration pages.

Most likely the dedicated video card can be changed to something more powerful, if needed, and I think all 9-series (and 100-series too) will work nicely in Hybrid SLI mode. The wireless card can be upgraded to Intel card. And the internal DVD drive changed to a Blu-ray drive. Even if I buy it now, there's still plenty of room for a later upgrade, but I guess I will wait till March for more color options and for some of those components to come standard, hopefully.

There isn't actually a cancel button, is there?

I'll check mine again, but it was in testing for way over an hour. Could just be it's sitting there waiting to be tested, or who knows.

The heat issue talked about in the NBR review. He said that it was hot when running games and blu ray. It may supposedly run cooler, but if you look at the pics from the heat tests of the 1530 and the 1640, you will notice that the 1640 is generally a few degrees warmer than the 1530. Granted, not by much in a few places, but still warm.

Erm no, you cannot upgrade the 9400M to anything better, as it is soldered onto the board as it's integrated. And no, Hybrid SLI does not work well with all 9 series cards, only the low ends.

And no, I was not talking about 9400M, i said DEDICATED card. And another no, we don't necessarily need a mid- or high-end dedicated card to work in Hybrid SLI mode, because on its own a better card will translate into a better performance! I was merely talking about upgrade possibilities.

Newsflash: The 9500M is not a dedicated card. It's nVidia's name for a 9200M GS and a 9400M working together in Hybrid SLI. It's a virtual card. You won't be upgrading it.

And the 3670 is at the top of its MXM range, so its the best you can upgrade to as the 3800s are on another MXM.

And to add to plasma.'s post, even if it had a dedicated card, they're all actually soldered to the board anyway.

For example, my laptop has a DEDICATED 8400m GS, but it's still soldered to the board.

And the 9500M is a 9400m + 9200m GS and the 9400m cannot be upgraded because it's just a name for the memory and bus controller doing double duty as the graphics processor. The additional 9200m GS is soldered to the board.

Is there anyone who is able to convert that PCmark05 score from chinese review of 1340 into 3Dmark06 score ?

    It's:

    PCMark05 Total - 4996
    Processor -6040
    Memory -4965
    Graphics -3021
    Hard disk -5371

Just a 3Dmark06 score of the SLI GPU would be very useful if someone is able to covert (Is it more than 3k?). Thanks!

What are you talking about? Of course 9500M is virtual, but 9200M GS is NOT. It is a dedicated card, and it's upgradable!

PCMark05 Scores are completely different to 3DMark06 scores.

Just because a card is dedicated, doesn't mean it's upgradeable. 99% of notebooks have non-upgradeable GPUs and it doesn't help the 1340's case when the GPU is soldered on.

For the same amount of money, I can get a 1TB, 2 8800M GTX, T9500 and BluRay packing Dell M1730.

Meh, it was fun while it lasted.

I'm now leaning towards the XPS 13.

    1. Do you think that Blueray will be available in a near future?
    2. I'm thinking on a 128 GB SSD. But i'm really don't know why i should take that.. are ssd better than a ordinarly 7200 hdd?
    3. How about the DELL wireless 1515 card. Good perfomance?

    Thanks.

    1. I doubt that as even M1330 didn't get that option and its been around for a while, If 1340 was to get blueray it would only be Read Only, seriously I think ive seen just 1730 or Alienware M17 that had Blue Ray burner.
    2. For me SSD is a total waste of money as its really expensive and doesn't offer much space, 7200rpm is fast enough (plus u get free fall protection)
    3. Don't know

    1. Others have said bluray will be available on the XPS13. salt992 said earlier in this thread that a Dell sales rep told him one would be available in 48hrs but that was a long time ago and still no configuration option. Dell in the UK either don't know or aren't telling me about bluray. I don't need a writer - just a reader and I've been waiting for this to order. Does anyone have an update on this? It would be great to know if someone had been given any info by Dell

    2. SSDs are quieter and cooler as well as faster. Depends on whether you think it's worth the money

    3. Not sure. Currently no option and I'm not too fussed - as soon as a bluray reader is available, I'll order
