I don't think Dell intended anything to get released so them not making a date they never wanted public isn't a surprise.

If people kept waiting for the next best thing, then they'll never get a laptop. No matter when you buy a computer, there will be something better or cheaper in the next month or 2.

I doubt Jayson posted with the intent to lie. He posted information he found and stated it was a rumor. If the info turns out to be wrong, then hopefully people won't hold it against Jayson. I'd rather hear rumors that turnout false then not hear anything and not know about a computer that might be just around the corner.

I never planned on getting a laptop this year but probably will next year. Not sure if I'll get the 13 or 16 if it does come out since there might not be any deals or coupons for them.

I was kinda waiting for the XPS 1640 but I ended up buying a Latitude E6500 instead. XPS16 comes out, I'll just sell my Latitude and move over.

I don't agree with the argument that if you allways wait for the next best thing you will allways be waiting. :nah: If you get a laptop today, the new Dell's will surely be out in a couple of months and you will have missed out. But if you wait a couple of months you should have the latest and greatest dell for about a year, at least. I mean, if you bought an XPS 1530 last year at this time you have had a top of the line Dell for at least a year now. Why buy one now and then have to sell it in just a few short months to get the newest thing?:confused2: As much as I think Dell has dropped the ball by waiting this long to introduce a top of the line laptop, I feel like I have to at least wait and see what they have in store to replace the XPS 1530 before I buy something. I hope it doesnt take much longer... :swoon:

I clarified my statement at the end of that section by saying better or cheaper. I doubt you could get near the same price on a XPS M1530 a year ago as you can now. Plus, I doubt the components are exactly the same either.

If you built a M1530 last year and a M1530 now, then I doubt you'll find them comparable in both price and specs.

i'd just like to add that those were pre-production pics, and might not be the final result. Also they did not label it so it may be another model, but it looked to me like the one in the original slide hence the post

I'm thinking a m1530 except with newer technology. Cheaper, and almost guaranteed to win as the XPS chassis was very popular among people.

A cut of the XPS line is making sense as Dell are doing whatever they can to get people to buy Studios, I mean, look at all the deals and special lid designs!

    QUESTION:

I am trying to decide to wait for the new laptop or buy a Studio15. I do not game, but I do plan on hooking up my new laptop to my 55" LCD TV through the HDMI port so that I can basically use the 55" TV as an external monitor. :D Will there be a benefit of waiting for the next laptop to come out to utilize the Video Card options they will probably have available. OR Will a current model Studio15 have all the Video Card I need to make my 55" external monitor dream come true? Also, I have been under the impression that since my TV is a 16:9 (widescreen) aspect ratio it would be best to use a 16:9 aspect ratio laptop (16" widescreen) so that the Dimensions on the screen both on the TV and the laptop were the same. Does that make sense? Thanks for the advice!

Your HDTV is max 1920x1080...any laptop with a discrete GPU and HDMI port should be able to accomodate that easily enough. As for 16:9...I would recommend a 16:9 laptop screen if you want to mirror monitor and HDTV, otherwise one or the other will be distorted. Or you could "extend" your desktop to the HDTV also which in essence is dual-monitors. Whenever I hook up my laptop to my 46" LCD, I just have it show 1920x1080 on the HDTV and shut off the LCD monitor. My laptop specs (see sig below) handles it no problem and it's fairly dated by current standards. I can even run 1080p HD videos without issue.

Agreed! I would jump and buy 3 current XPS design with updated hardware in a heart beat. Sadly, it looks like we are all getting Sony FW.

I simply do not understand Dell's decision making process. Obviously the current XPS design is good, otherwise, they wouldn't spawn the Studio line from it. So why ditch something that's working? Freaking corporate brainless executives so old in their thinking that everything has to change to sell. Progressive changes works for Porsche and Apple.

I am waiting too, I just wish I knew what for. Does anyone have any experiences to share about ordering a laptop that a lot of people are waiting for when it first comes out? Do you think there will be a delay on day one because everyone is placing an order at once?

Well, do you remember the "early" days of the M1330? People waited for what, 2-3 months?
Well right in the beginning the Studio XPS will probably cost a fortune... but still, the demand should be quite high.

@dave: Well thanks ;) Thats what I thought..This information is atleast something... And this sales rep did not like to talk about the new model. This is the first time he actually gave me some information, so I kinda think it is valid.

Will be interesting to see what specs they'll have whenever they show up, not that anything is going to change my mind at this point. I gave up Dell when no model was released in November and will now get a MacBook Pro in two weeks time.

And remember that custom built configs from Dell don't really ship the day after it was ordered. On a new model it could probably take 3 or 4 weeks for the notebook to arrive. Are anyone willing to wait Jan/Feb + 3-4 weeks for a new notebook?

That's what people thought when the Latitiude E4300 came out.

"There's no way it can be that much more expensive..."

...and look at the price it sells at. >_>

Dell will never cease to surprise you, in more ways than one.

Yeah, but the E4300 is a laptop designed to be a business laptop for businesses to purchase for their employees; they can get away with selling them for more. The new laptops should be priced less because Dell knows that they are selling these to the average consumer.

In order to get our attention Dell needs to price it in the Sony FW to the HP HDX 16 range.

I don't think these new notebooks will be expensive, because there's already competition AND because Dell is 5-6 months *behind* the competition with Montevina chipset. In any case, I'll wait too, 'coz it's worth the wait (i hope) :)

I asked this in another thread (studio vs xps) but I think it is better suited here. Will Studio XPS mean no more XPS, and the gaming rigs all go to Alienware and along with that the superior XPS support? If so, do current XPS owners still get special attention, maybe through Alienware? Hopefully, Studio XPS will not change anything, but I can see Dell saving some support dollars here, although hopefully they realize they would lose some potential customers. I would not pay more for a Studio XPS that gets only the same support as a the Studio/Inspiron line. A big part in my decision to go with XPS has been because of the support that Dell gives XPS customers.

Remember, all information we have is based on rumors, created by, perhaps faked, slides posted on this website..
But there have been some leaked info on dell's website about an "XPS 1340".. NOT "Studio XPS" ..

Dell is yet to confirm this..

This is a rumors thread, I take nothing as fact. No one knows for sure what it will be called, so at this point Studio XPS 1340 is as probable as XPS 1340, This was originally rumored to be StudioXPS, there was a clip about something called XPS 1340, but Dell does now have the Studio XPS desktop. It just made me wonder if they do give this laptop the same label as the desktop (Studio XPS) could that mean something to the level of service. Does anyone know if the Studio XPS desktop gets XPS level service? That would answer my question.

I would imagine very few people would own a Studio XPS desktop at this point. I say this because as soon as it became available online last month, I configured one and the shipping date was Dec.5. I do have a funny feeling that Dell will be trying to save money so...

Yeah, but I wouldn't mind if Dell came out with a similar, high-build quality design. At the very least, I hope we don't get a downgrade from current XPS models. Companies everywhere are cutting costs and Dell appears to be one of them. Some people on this board have complained about recently-introduced SONY VAIO notebooks feeling cheaper than previous models.

Hype and hate all aside. They're actually a very impressive piece of hardware. To me it's the ultimate PC laptop once you install Winblows or Linux on it. For people with money to blow, it's the ultimate choice. You get a light laptop with very good hardware. Styling is all subjective.

I still don't get why Dell, Sony, HP, etc.. cannot get their act together and make a top notch piece of hardware like a MBP. On the extreme end you have Alienware and Sager, etc...but they weight like a truck and they look like something you could buy at Toy R Us. The Sony FW is nice. But it's near 7lbs.

The Dell XPS M1530 was near perfect. I still don't get why they won't just quickly improve on it and put it out before xmas. ignorant executives with their heads in the sand.

Buying an excessively overpriced laptop to run os x is one thing, buying an excessively overpriced laptop to run the same os that other laptops can run, and which only cost half the price - is a bit daft  .

Yeah the new aluminum Macbooks look really nice. I wasn't too impressed with the build to my black Macbook, but I think these ones are a winner. Plus they cater to my environmentalist side with the all recyclable body. I really like my Studio 15, but it is a lot of plastic.

to those who were talking about if there will be another xps i believe the answer is no i remember reading an article that showed that xps would only continue on desktops and not notebooks it had something to so with alienware

The Studio Xps is gonna be like a true replacement for them it wont be that hard to tell because once they come out and we see what GPU it is packing thatll pretty much be a give away im just hoping they DONT use a 9600 gt as the high end optional gpu or it would not have been worth the wait. Dell has a chance now to make the most powerful 16" notebooks i just hope they dont let us down :D

i run windows (and linux and OS X) on my late 2008 unibody MBP. tell me why i shouldn't. there are things vista can do (play games, updated nvidia drivers/features, mkv2vob) that OS X and linux just can't.

and please point me to where i can buy a laptop (at any price) that weighs under 5.5 lbs, gets me a solid 8 hours of note-taking on one charge, has a 9600m GT or better, a backlit keyboard, LED-backlit screen, 1440x900 or better resolution, DDR3/montevina/centrino 2, made of a single solid block of aluminum with build quality that puts german cars to shame.

i will help you out with that search... NOWHERE except the MBP. i was hoping the new XPS's would come out before the holidays, but as well all know, they haven't. so i am stuck with this "excessively overpriced" laptop... guess i am just "daft" then, huh?

i can only hope dell can match/exceed the style, durability, and especially the features of the MBP. the only thing it has going against it is price, which is where dell should kick apple in the . too bad they are so slow to get on the ball :(

    Any news, Jayson?

Come on, this thread is going nowhere. Could you maybe photoshop some more slides to create some excitement again.

    Couldn't resist :D

This is pure speculation on my part but this is what I'm thinking:

Possibly the studio XPS was planned to come out in November, but once Dell saw the new macbook pro's that were released in October they held off and improved the design/build.

The wait to Jan is suspicious in any case, we all know that they really need to offer a Montevina option on the current XPS models. It has been absent for way too long!

Im personally thinking/hoping that they are waiting for the HD 4000 mobility series to be released in Jan so that they can put a HD 4670 mobility (most likely) or even better a HD 4850... (wishful thinking!!).

I really wish they would keep the current shape and just refine it to use more metal/magnesium/alloy to make it even more solid. I honestly loved my XPS M1530 before it was stolen... :(
