Actually I would think Dell would use a 4650 IF they were to side with ATI for their high-end consumer laptop.

They have a history of not using very powerful cards, usually mid-rangers. Eg. 3650 in Dell Studio 17, 8600M in Inspiron 1720

they already showed a msi with a p8600 and a ATI 4850 score 9350 at 1280 x 1024 resolution and close to 10,000 with overclock that is just killer imagine what a 4870 could

We've all seen from the 3870 X2 that 3D06 scores don't mean everything. The ATI cards were scoring huge numbers, way above 9800M Gt and 9800M GTX but still falling behind in real-life performance in some (if not most) games.

Isn't that because Ati's are optimised for synthetic benchmarks like 3dmark?

You got it backwards... The games are optimized for Nvidia. Those ATI cards would be able to back the scores up if the game developers would optimise for both GPUs equally.

I'm fairly certain if ATI continues its habit of having similar specs to their desktop GPU's the HD 4670 will be more then enough for the Studio XPS 16, might even come close to a 9800 GS/GTS (at least on paper besides the 128bit memory).

In any case it should kill the 9600m GT! (on paper)

Why do you expect Jayson to post anything else? Can't you now see it was just a photoshopped pair of slides?

    1.Register on Forums
2.Post some (fake) amazing news backed up by 5 minute PS job
3.Use a combination of bad grammar and spelling to maintain belief about the news
4.Assure everything is under control by promising new and unexpected dates
    5.Dismiss naysayers
6.Wait until attention is at an all time high to leave forever.

    j/ks ;)

Thanks for that ching, will google it up.

    A bit off topic...
I may be missing something here, but why is a Studio 14 necessary in the lineup?

2.4 kg for a 14" with small battery is heavy in 2009 in my opinion.

Samung X460 is 1.9kg with 6 cell battery.

The Studio 14 weighs almost as much as the XPS 1530.

The Studio 14 doesn't look interesting at all to be honest. Still no new news about the XPS 16 either, a shame. Well I don't care anymore about that, Dell has officially lost me as a customer this time around. My MacBook Pro has been ordered and I hope I get it before Christmas.

Just bugged a Chat Agent of Dell's.
When asked about the new XPS's on Centrino2 - he said:

"its still in testing.. no eta date"

Wich I guess is kinda ok news. Since a few times earlier, when I've tried to get some info out of the chat agents they didn't know or want to know any thing.
He didn't know any specs, as he said they know about the specs and all the rest (incl. release date) when the details have emerged officially...

Chalk another two here. I ordered 2 HDX16t this morning. My brother and I waited since October. We cannot wait any longer. If it's as good as the reviews said, I'll stick with HP for future upgrades. Dell = second rated, out dated hardwares

There was some part for the 1340 back in November available on the website, but nothing more on that yet.

RAM is model independent (more or less), so they can offer it without the actual model being ready. The module says it is DDR3. This would have been decided when they began designing the motherboard for the notebook.

    Translated it says:

… the cover Dell studio XPS 1640 in the DOS mode is closed. Replace… descriptive that to Dell studio XPS 1640 attached external monitor… the external announcement. That studio XPS 1640 supports the function for…

    FreeTranslation.com-

Still hard to make out what it says and when you click on the link for the rest of the article it says that there is an error or something.

Where is the DELL XPS 13 and 16?

Has anyone heard or have there been any updates? Has it been postponed for this month? (I doubt it at this late date in the month) has it been postponed till sometime next year? Will it be introduced at CES next month maybe? Did Dell decide to hold off for Economic reasons? Maybe they want to get more out of their current Studio Line and/or current XPS Line and not get overstocked with in a recession before they bring out a new line? Or are they concentrating on the Mini/netbook market?

I like ATI, my old Inspiron 9300 have one and I never had heating problems or failures, just the screen but that's another story.

I'm still waiting since july for this new XPS line. I think I'm very patience...lol if not well I think HP it is. But my hopes still high!!! so no HP at this moment just waiting =)
