It does get a little hot, have not tested it out on my lap yet though. The keys are alright to type on. I do not have a problem with them.

I bounce between Imageshack and Photobucket.

Imageshack allows you to *thumbnail*! And, I like the *edit options* in Photobucket! :D

Months of waiting and today, I ordered a Studio XPS 1640. After 90 minutes of chatting with a product sales agent, he could finally understand me. The guy even offered me a configuration 200$ more expensive than the web site. During the last 30 minutes, he was constantly saying he cannot add bluetooth because the discount would be over 150$ and I was hopelessly trying to tell him that I will pay whatever the price is and want him to add it to the quote. So he finally added it and I placed the order.
But I have two questions for you guys:

    1) How do you understand if the order is complete? The automated email says: "Your purchase is being processed and will be completed when payment is approved". The website shows an order number and says: "in production". The call line says: "Built stage". And my checking account shows a withdraw called: "PRE-AUTH DELL ..."

    2) In the item list and the quote the guy sent me, in the display section it says: "16.0 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p FullHD RGBLED LCD W/2.0 MP, XPS 1640" but below, just under the bluetooth, there is another line which I think for webcam and it says: "Premium HD WLED Display Obsidian Black, Leather 1.3 MP Webcam". I asked it to the product sales guy and he said the display is the RGBLED one and kept saying it but it is bugging me. What do you think?

Hey Hancer - I was wondering the same thing. Is RGBLED the same as my only option, WLED on my 1340? Also, I've seen the 2.0 vs. 1.3 webcam issue all over this board. I'm sure it's a typo, because the slimmer display has a lower end camera...

But then again, I could be wrong!

Well, WLED and RGBLED are different options for 1640 with a 250$ difference so they are different screens but I agree that the webcam issue must be a typo since there isn't even a 1.3MP webcam option for 1640.

RGBLED is capable of displaying 100% accurate colors. WLED is not :( only about 60%, but anyways, for 1340, WLED is the only best choice there is, as it uses less power and it is much brighter than a regular screen. The 1.3 Mpx webcam is completely enough for video calls.

As long as the RGBLED 1080p is listed, you are good.

Mine had both listed as well. The 1080p was closer to the top.

Also, the website will only show In Production and then Shipped once it is complete. The phone automated system gives more details of what step within "In Production" you are. Build stage means they are putting it together. It will go through testing and boxing before it is "shipped"

I ordered earlier today and mine is already in "build" stage. I'm sure it's going to be stuck in build limbo for a while though since the estimated shipment date is Febr. 16!

Yeah, I ordered My SXPS 16 on Jan. 11th,

Went into Production on the 12th and took until today the 24th to go to SHIPPED.

So I had an 11 day "In Production" time.

My Original Estimated Shipping Date was the 29th, with a Delivery Date of the 30th... So It will be 4 days early from the Estimated time.

Some people have had less wait and others will have more.

i tried that, and showed as miscellaneous on the review page, but will arrive 6-8 weeks after shipment of the laptop. so i guess its useless for the laptop you're buying now.

i dont know if anyone noticed before but there is something interesting in the prices of xps1340. If you choose the good option model and customize it with 2.4 processor, 9500 IGP and bluetooth to reach the same config with better model the price comes to 1369$,but better model's price is 1394$. with the specs i didnt see any other difference. Is there anyone who can explain this difference? Also i didnt read anything about the average battery drain times. Any information whould be useful before making a decision.

So no one is getting PowerDVD discs with this? :(

WLED might be better than that. A lot of florecent lights are better than that even. At any rate, it should look really good hopefully.

My bad, you're right! I just noticed. I thought you were talking about the best one. Yeah, Dell has some funny pricing going on. I'd probably just mess with all 3 at the same time to see which has the best price, then call in the order.

Need advice...it's a long story, but my wife is PISSED at me for buying her a laptop (the 1640). Apparently it's too much money in her eyes and I need to return it. Obviously I'm not wearing the pants when it comes to this one. I appreciate her "practicalness," but am disappointed she doesn't want to keep it.

I read on Dell's site they have a 15% restocking fee for returns. I haven't called them yet. Does anyone know if it's possible to get around that fee or am I pretty much hosed? I got a great deal via EPP. If I can't get around the fee, perhaps I'll see if anyone here is interested in the computer and split the difference.

    Thoughts?

is there any wrong components in your system? EX: you bought an LED but it turned out to be regular LCD...you can also complain about the heat. However, I think you should sell it on ebay =)
