That's pretty normal at Dell Canada! When I was speaking to the rep the system went down. He couldn't place the order and had to called me back a few hours later. I bet they have a bunch of squirrels powering Dell.

    Hey guys,

I'm looking at the 1340 and just my luck, last night the price went up. I literally just got off the phone with dell and she quoted me at $2120.30 for the following config

    PROCESSOR
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P9500 (6MB cache/2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB)
    OPERATING SYSTEM
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1, 64-bit
    PRODUCTIVITY SOFTWARE
Microsoft Works Plus 2008 - Includes MICROSOFT WORD plus much more!
    LCD AND CAMERA
Edge-to-Edge 13.3" HD WXGA Slim WLED LCD with 1.3 Megapixel Camera
    MEMORY
    4GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz (2 Dimms)
    HARD DRIVE
    128GB Solid State Drive
    GRAPHICS CARD
    NVIDIA® GeForce® 9400M G (I will request to get the 9500M)
    OPTICAL DRIVE
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
    WIRELESS CARD
    Dell Wireless 1515 802.11n Half Mini-Card
    BLUETOOTH
Dell Wirless 370 Bluetooth Module (2.1+EDR)
    HARDWARE SERVICES
1 Year Return to Depot Service, Complete Care and Technical Support
    SECURITY SOFTWARE
    McAfee SecurityCenter 36-months
    Accessories
    Kensington ComboSaver Red Combination Lock

The price of $2120.30 is with EPP of 7% and the taxes. I'm not happy with the quoted price and I feel that the price can be knocked down a bit. I'm not too sure what to say or how to haggle with them. Any tips? Or can any of you refer me to a rep that you guys had a good experience with? Thanks.

Kg810, if they don't budge on the price. Ask for accessories. That's the second best route if you're desperate to buy.

You guys shouldn't complain. My ETA is 2009-02-16 (Studio XPS 1340) despite the quite early order date of 2009-01-10 ;). Probably because of the nordic keyboard and/or 3G-card.

call to get 3 % more off on top of the EPP 7%. make sure you mention that you saw the flier. on my order, they threw in a printer that they claimed was for "free" but in reality it was to get $80 off a $100 printer so i wasn't too mad. they also gave me 100 dell bucks for future purchases on accessories. i couldn't post the flier because it was too large but basically it just says to mention the flier for EPP participants to receive 10% off on your call in order.

I just called them again to mention the flier and the rep said I could only choose one of the discounts so, either the 7% EPP or the 3% from the flier. I then told him a friend of mine had just recently made a purchase with them and had gotten both the EPP + 3% making it 10% total. He then said they normally don't do that but if I am able to provide him with the order or audit number? (couldn't really understand his english through his accent :\) then he would be able to work out the same deal.

And yeah, the reps have been really lousy. Both of them sounded dead, annoyed and lazy. Hopefully Jose won't let me down.

==edit== I just read that link and it states its US EPPs only ><.

I could be wrong. But the offer is for Dell US and does not apply to Dell Canada. I remember trying to pull this off but I was not able to apply both. I ended up using my EPP discount + free accessories.

Ok, been reading the Studio XPS rumours since before the first slides were posted by Jayson, and now that they're here I can't decide.
I'm torn between the XPS 1330 and the new 1340. As far as I'm concerned, they both have their pros and cons, so I could appreciate it if you could tell me your opinion and why ;)

    XPS 1330:
    Pro:
    • Cheaper (at least a bit and it has coupons (Europe))
    • Fingerprint reader. Makes typing and remembering those passwords easier (firefox plugin)
    • 9cell battery option
    • not a fingerprint magnet
    Con:
    • Older CPUs (800mhz FSB compared to 1066 on 1340)
    • Faulty GPUs (either way I'm taking the 3year warranty package)

    SXPS 1340:
    Pro:
    • Newer CPU/GPU/Memory (DDR3, is it worth the upgrade? Future-wise as well?)
    • Facial recognition? Better than fingerprint reader? I don't know
    Con:
    • fingerprint magnet
    • still rather expensive
    • no 9cell battery option atm

So what do you guys think? I especially need the memory and CPU power to run multiple VMs (2x Server 2008 and 1x Vista ontop of Vista/Windows 7).

Will you be carrying it around every day and want it to be lighter? Buy older m1330. Otherwise, i think 1340.
You don't have much time left to decide, as XPS m1330 is soon to be discontinued. :)

If the first reason for your 1330 is "cheaper," you already know you should go with the 1340. It's just a matter of you being "cheap" or not.

Yeh, I'm taking it with me on the train to college each day and for the rest of the day. I currently have an Inspiron 6400 with 9cell battery, so the weight difference between them won't bother me that much.

You can try and negotiate a little to bring down the price of the 1340. I'm not sure how receptive they are to that if you aren't in the USA but it's worth it to try. I think both computers are powerful and I was deciding between the two too. The weight of the 1340 is what scares me right now but if that's not a factor, I say go with the 1340. I went with the 1340 to be futureproof for a little bit longer.

I agree!! I've seen the ones on Engadget but they suck. I want to make sure it looks nice before the computer starts production and I can't cancel the order! I must admit that the glossy palm rests is a big turn-off in my opinion. Coming from a business notebook, I'm really hoping the build material is as sturdy and professional as that.

Perhaps the Adamo? Haha. Although it doesn't look like the Adamo has a disc drive in it and it might use a slower processor than these ones. It looks like one slick computer though. I wonder if it'll be more expensive than the 1340...probably I bet.

I see my company posted that we can get the 10% epp by calling before 2/5. Anyone ever try getting the 6% AAA discount? I'm sure you can't combine them (hoping I'm wrong, 16% would do it for me!!) , but for anyone who can't get EPP, maybe 6% plus some other hard negotiating will get a decent deal. I'll say this, I have not been able to configure any other laptop at the basic 1640 specs for their base price of $1199 including XPS 15, so I'll be likely getting one before 2/5. I wanted to wait to see what other options come along, but 10% is very appealing.

You cannot combine 2 EPP discounts. It has to be one or the other. That would be a nice discount to have, but it won't work.

Also, I have a friend who legitimately has the Triple AAA discount, even at 6% it has helped him in the past with purchases.

A few simple ways: If you have EPP take advantage of it. If you have a good EPP Rep that you have worked with in the past, continue contacting them when making purchases. This is what I have done with all my purchases. I only deal with one person, and to get the sale he will work with me to the extent he can.

It's also a plus to configure your order online, save it to your *cart* pick up the phone and call a Rep:
(that way you have it in front of you when dealing with the Rep on a good deal).

In this thread, the awesome Les explains how to get a great deal by phone with a Dell Rep: Post #4

And if the cdn dollar continue to slides the price won't go down any time soon. Like oil, computer parts are priced in US dollar so it's only fair that when our dollar goes down the price goes up. Dell was also very good about lowering the price when we were on par with the US. I'm actually going to miss Bush.... hahaha Since he only has 2 daughters, I don't think I'll see par again in my life time.

Geez, Dell has really been giving it to me today.

5:15:01 PM Agent CA SALES Naveen 1279 one moment
    5:15:20 PM Customer Me ok
5 :15:51 PM Agent CA SALES Naveen 1279 Studio XPS 13 is not Qualified for the EPP discounts
    5:16:04 PM Customer Me ...
5:16:23 PM Customer Me So i've talked to four sales reps now
5:16:27 PM Customer Me three of them say it is
5:16:30 PM Customer Me and you say its not

Seriously, why is it soooo hard to find a sales rep who I can talk with without any communication difficulties? I've called three times today, all three have had heavy accents and it is really frustrating talking to them. I can't stand this, I'm so close to just not ordering this 1340.

I try chatting with the online chat assistance and they don't even know what is going on. There goes that backup plan.

Can anyone provide me with a sales rep to dell.ca who they can vouch for? This is honestly going to be my last straw dealing with dell's sales reps.

My 1640 finally shipped (which enables the invoice button on the order status) - for those of you with SSD questions, mine is listed as:

    Solid State Drive,128GB,S2 2.5,Samsung,RBXM

So yes, it's a Samsung. No idea what the S2 means. Anyone have info about the drive?

Kicking myself for not trying to bargain for overnight shipping. Go Fedex Ground, go. Coming from Nashville.

I believe this is the MLC drive that Samsung has. Read speed is 90MB/sec and write is 70MB/sec. They're supposedly pretty good so I wouldn't worry about it. I got this drive too.
