this is for a screen freezing issue not horrible scroll lag and touchpad lag though?

-
It doesn't seem to be available in the UK at the moment, but I intend to get one as soon as I can. Hopefully it won't be too long a wait.
-
the firmware update is only for the QHD display and only for the broadwell version of the XPS 13 (9343)
-
ha. you ****ing beauty. thanks for this.
i thought the trackpad was the business before finding this. brilliant stuff.
wish someone had an autohotkey for swiping back and forth for navigating or tabbing between browser tabs,
but i don't want to come off ungrateful. pretty fantastic stuff. -
Two quick questions around upgrading the SSD:
1. I am upgrading from the 128 to the 500GB Samsung EVO 850 M.2. Right now it is $177 on Amazon. Should I hold out elsewhere for it to get cheaper or am I wishful thinking that Newegg or someone else will have a deal at some point?
2. I was thinking about using the Samsung Data Mgmt utility since it is going from one Samsung product to the next. Is that the best course since it seem their newer version supports Win 10? I was reading elsewhere if you use a 3rd party you lose your OS recovery partition. In the manual for the newest samsung version i think that gets cloned.
Thanks all! -
Not my find, someone posted it in one of the XPS 15 threads.
I'm using this autohotkey script (would love to give credit, but I can't remember where I found it) for two finger swipe. Would love for it to be three fingers, but this is okay:
It has a certain lag built into to avoid accidental inputs, I think. I've reduced the 400ms to 220 and it feels better; you can try adjusting it to your needs, if you want to use it.Last edited: Dec 22, 2015 -
thanks for this, seems to be a little bit of a delay before it triggers to go back a page in the browser though?
-
Try changing the two "400"s to something smaller. I'm using 220 right now.
-
How does this affect scrolling right and left? Since both gestures use two finger swipe
-
perfect
-
so, the script for two-finger navigation works beautifully.
i thought i'd press my luck with this, however:
is there a script for three-finger switching between browser tabs?
thanks again! -
hi guys, i am in the market for a new laptop. i have had the alienware m11x r2 for 4 and half years now. i think its time for an update. i am so used to the m11x screen size to the point that my girlfriend macbook air 13 is quiet big in my eyes. i am a windows guy but the macbook was pretty good. it never lags. i bought the m11x then because of the looks and for gaming. i wont even lie i never gamed to it because i am a console guy. i am looking for something that is fast and portable for school and travel, watching movies as well. is the xps 13 perfect for me? and should i get the touch or the non touch? thanks guys. it will be my laptop for quite a while.
-
Seems like there is something about three finger swipes that makes it hard to capture as input. Don't really know, only read other people's stuff about it. But since tab switching is basically ctrl+tab or ctrl+shift+tab (i.e. easily output by autohotkey), it should be doable if you manage to capture three finger swipes. Tell us if you do.

It is also working for skylake version of the XPS 13 (9350). You just need to flash your firmware directly with the TCON_DP_REWORK_TOOL which is in the CABC-off directory. (instead of using the setup file named QHDFW_DBC.exe). This setup file is blocking 9350 model, but actually the panel is the same and the patch is working for both models.mnpcguy likes this.
-
Yep, installed that driver day one as the one that came with the machine crashed frequently . . .
-
Forgive me for my ignorance, but do you have a step by step on how i go about getting the right file, flashing the firmware and making this happen? I would love to turn off CABC
-
Yes, I would like to have a step-by-step guide on how to do this please! I have the QHD i5 256gb. I will gift you reddit gold if you are a fellow redditor
-
I downloaded the firmware from this link:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwSnIxxl4kxkbXdSX2FkNE5OR1E/view
(Only for QHD+ models!)
The update process (for Skylake version 9350):
1. Make sure that your computer is plugged in and you have the latest intel drivers
2. Extract zip contents
3. Open the folder "DP_Rework_ToolV17 - CABC off"
4. Run TCON_DP_REWORK_TOOL.EXE
5. This EXE file is actually a display firmware flasher. Press write (panel FW V0.28) and flash the new firmware.
6. Restart Windows.
Hope this helps. -
Anyone else having problems with two-finger scroll bouncing/rebounding in the direction opposite of intended? This happens to about 1/4 of my scroll attempts, and makes the laptop almost unusable. Happens across all applications as well.
Interestingly my replacement XPS 13 has the same issue. I've reinstalled windows several times and adjusted settings in all sorts of ways, but can't tell if this is hardware or software...? -
Yes, this is a very widespread problem. I've tried every fix you can find on the web. I thought I'd solved it by unchecking enhanced pointer precision under mouse properties, but the problem persists. It's almost certainly a software issue, the result of the poor Microsoft precision touchpad drivers.
-
Exactly on the same boat, as Bigmouth described... The bouncing/rebounding scrolling makes the touchpad experience not so good unfortunately. Otherwise it is very well done, smooth, nice clicky sound, good size etc. Microsoft needs to work on the drivers.
But I dont mind that so much. What drives me mad is that sometimes my computer doesnt go to sleep and turns off instead - opened unfinished work is lost
And I have had a few occassions where I noticed the laptop wakes itself up after going to sleep! Twice I found it in my bag with 5% battery remaining, pretty hot, even though I was sure I sent it to sleep the day before. My battery wear is 6,9% after 3 weeks now, thanks to that.
I filmed it on my phone how it happens:
http://sendvid.com/33gfp0xm
The power button light goes off to confirm sleep state and then turns itself back on. Restarting doesnt help. In the past it always solved itself somehow. Now I have it again.
I also cannot install the latest Windows update KB3124200. Did you have troubles installing it? -
Not sure if this is what you mean, but have you tried setting this to 0:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch\Bouncing
That gets rid of the annoying window bounce on scroll end, at least. -
i posted yesterday a more detailed explanation. Please check it.
-
I read it wrong and was hoping it was for the FHD. That's what I am looking for and it doesn't seem to exist
-
Does anyone else feel their battery isn't as good as it should be? I ran a battery usage report and got this:
DESIGN CAPACITY 57,532 mWh
FULL CHARGE CAPACITY 53,299 mWhLast edited: Dec 24, 2015 -
Me too, except mine is 53,329 (7.3% wear). Odd thing is that this value hasn't changed at all since I first got it - not even by .001 up or down, which is not normal for any battery and makes me extra suspicious about the reading. Has yours changed?
-
I just got my laptop 2 days ago so not sure how it has changed since I have only really done a full charge once. I have not has as much time to play with it as I would have liked.
Is this something worthy complaining/exchanging about? -
Did you ever figure this out? I am having the same thing happen
-
Yes I have that too and its driving me insane. That and the Display Driver that keeps crashing.
-
I just updated Windows to 1511 and my initial impression is that the scrollbouncing/rebounding is fixed, it feels much more solid.
Another problem im having though is that the keyboard lags like hell, anyone else have that problem? -
does anyone else have a problem when you put your laptop to sleep and come back in an hour or so it has actually powered off?
-
For those experiencing intel video drivers crashing when using edge, turning off hardware acceleration in internet explorer settings seems to have solved the issue.
-
You are a god amongst men, sir. -
Scrolling is still bouncing and snapping like crazy.

Guys, did anyone of you have any of those issues as well? I would like to know if you also have that issue that laptop comes back on from sleep state by itself. http://sendvid.com/33gfp0xm
Mnpcguy: I also have occasionally that issue you have.mnpcguy likes this. -
What I have found is it only does this after extended time away. If I come back within 30mins things are fine but after a couple hours, it shuts down. I did a online chat with a Microsoft rep and the one thing they changed is a sleep setting for when the SSD goes to sleep. They upped it to 90mins but I honestly don't think that solved the problem. I really want a fix for this
-
Mine also shutdown after about a couple hours sleep. I always shut it down before saving it in my bag, so never have found it on by itself.
-
hi guys
my xps has developed a pretty serious issue. it will not stay asleep or stay off whether unplugged or on battery. it wakes up from sleep or just turns itself on after i shut it down . pretty confident its a software issue . does anyone have a solution ?? cheers -
When I had this issue (twice), the only way I could fix it was by booting once into Safe Mode, then everything was back to normal on next full boot (don't ask me why).
Win+R > msconfig > Boot > Safe Boot
Then untick on next boot. -
Yes, had the exact same issue. Could put it to sleep through the Power menu, watch it go to sleep, and then immediately the power light would come back on and the display would light up. EVEN when shutting down. Only thing I could do was hold the power button for a while and kill the machine. "powercfg" was useless. Event viewer would show the shutdown, then "resume from sleep" exactly .02 seconds after sleeping. Tried ever option imaginable in Power Options and Task Manager.
I ended up doing a clean install from a USB drive, and so far things seem better. -
I am just a man amongst other men. I am glad if i could help though.
-
Get it unless you like thinking about it...Use their migration software....I used Acronis and copied everything across, so can't tell you about the recovery partition...but you have the old SSD....so you have itmnpcguy likes this.

I've had the early XPS 13 model for several months now. One of my main gripes with it (apart from the fan noise and coil whine) is the trackpad / touchpad. It's simply not very precise and it's been driving me nuts. Dell has gradually improved it, but it's still not great (well, for Windows it's ok - but compared to my 15" Macbook Pro, it's pretty terrible).
I've read a ton of review about the new 9350 - and somehow I don't believe it's 100% clear whether the touchpad has now been improved. Is this new hardware? Is it really better than the previous iteration? Or does it simply include the same software fixes the early 2015 has already received? I love the form factor etc., so if the touchpad has improved, I would actually upgrade to the Skylake version. -
Considering how much people complained and still complain about the touchpad, I doubt it would be worth the upgrade. It has (imho) only gotten usable - actually quite good - with the 1511 Windows update, before that it was beyond awful. Don't know if it is newer hardware though; it seems like the problems were pretty much the same.zipro likes this.
-
thanks - considering that it still uses the exact same drivers, I'm guessing it's exactly the same trackpad. It's just getting slightly better reviews because by now, after all the driver updates since February, it has become a lot better. I'll stick with the early 2015 model.
I got a 12" Macbook for Christmas and have to say, that Apple's trackpads aren't necessarily getting better, either. It's definitely a regression from the 15" Macbook Pro. It's less precise - as a matter of fact, it feels exactly like the XPS 13's
-
I have exactly the same, only I havent noticed it come up when the whole system shuts down. Though I am pretty sure it has something to do with a) switching from sleep to hibernation, b) disk turning off. Last night I put it to sleep and I made sure it was sleeping - this morning I found it on and battery bar shows me how long has it been running - thanks to that I found out it woke up one hour after I put it to sleep. My setting is hibernation and also disk sleep state are both after 60 mins. So it either tried to turn off the disk or tried to switch to hibernation and couldnt perform it.
-
Yes my friend speculated the same thing- either unable to wake up to then hibernate the system, or able to wake, but unable to hibernate (and then stays awake at that point).
-
I asked several days ago a question but I haven't any reply.
Has anyone tried or nobody knows if an adapter to connect the XPS 13 to a 4K TV with HDMI 2.0 and get 4K @ 60hz ?
Lately many people are using TV as monitors.
Thank you. -
Well now I have had the occassion when I tried to shut down completely and it came up by itself. I guess this has nothing to do with hibernation and it is SSD driver probably interfering with someone else (not everyone has this issue) or BIOS bug.
When I turned it off again it DID turn off finally. Since then multiple sleeps with no issue. Will see how long it stays this way.Last edited: Dec 29, 2015
