Has anyone tried the "cloud ready" Chrome OS clone from http://www.neverware.com on their XPS 13 yet?

I would love to be able to run this side by side with Windows if I purchase the the XPS 13. They have a live boot option so you do not even have to install it. Since Skylake is new I'm curious if everything would work such as WiFi and the touch-pad.

    I've just received my i5/8gb/128.
Very impressed by the packaging and excited that the recovery media comes on a USB!

    Do Dell always do this?

I haven't yet turned it on, and I'm contemplating putting and 500gb - 850EVO under the hood.

When I do this, I was wondering what the best method is for transferring/reinstalling/cloning the OS onto the new HD will be?

    Excited! ;-)

I have a cheap USB C to HDMI dongle and it only runs 4K @ 30Hz not sure if this is a problem with the dongle, cable, firmware or drivers. But not running as HDMI 2.0

Will this also work on the early xps 13 qhd? What about skylake 1080p?

I have the early xps 13 2015 and planning to upgrade to windows 10. Any suggestions how to tackle this? I would like it to be as clean install as possible with the latest drivers but don't know how to start doing this. Also do people who upgraded have problems?

I also have the sleep issue. Sometimes it turns off and I'm starting from scratch other times it turns off and then my stuff is still open. I don't get it.
My system does get hotter faster now than when I initially started. I haven't been doing anything intensive as of late, browsing, may have multiple video tabs open. But this becomes noticeable maybe 15 minutes after turning it on. The heat doesn't bother me, it's how soon it gets that hot that stands out.

Has anyone got any dead or stuck pixels? I've had my XPS 13 for about one month. On Boxing day I noticed two pixels right in the centre were stuck on green. It's annoying because they are almost next to each other. I find quality control on even high end computers a lottery. I've had tons of problems with previous HP Elitebooks and previous Gen XPS 13s. If there was a Microsoft Store in London (like with Apple) I would buy a Surface Book with Core i7.

I returned two Surface Pro 4 because of bleeding. I think that Microsoft at this moment is doing worst.

Yes I also had that same experience- the XPS woke again/ booted almost immediately even after I had selected Shut Down from the menu. I finally just held the power button down until the thing died.

Just to follow up, I've contacted kiwibird.com who make my HDMI 1.4 adapter and they say an HDMI 2.0 version is in the works:-

"The adapter complying with HDMI 2.0 specs is ongoing development.
We will let you know once it is coming up."

I think this probably goes for a lot of Thunderbolt 3 peripherals. It's going to be a while before you can actually buy them.

I'm waiting for an external Thunderbolt 3 GPU that in turn supports HDMI 2.0

This does for me a very big difference against other alternatives like Surface Pro 4, no Thunderbolt, only one USB 3.0

It will be fantastic to see too external GPUs.

    Thank you JamieW

Count me among those having this issue, too. Holding down the power button does seem to resolve the shutdown/reboot problem, though it still wakes randomly from sleep sometimes.

You can order that plug end from amazon if it's US power you use.

Oh, nm..you're talking about the charging pack and not the adapter.

In case it may help others:

    - I received my 9350 this week with configuration in my signature
    - I had the flickering to Black problem. I tried several solutions, and the one that worked was as follows, both with original 256GB SSD and the replacement 950:

    A) issue was due to Dell Video Driver.
    B) first time I uninstalled/deleted the Dell driver and let Windows install the one from the web/device manager, all was good. After second attempt to install Dell Driver and delete it, the problem persisted. I`m not 100% sure if I had done item C, it would have work. It might... But I decided to do a clean install anyway...
    C) After a clean install, I installed all Dell`s drivers, except, video driver. I had some flickering issues. On Device Manager, the installed driver was Intel`s from July, 2015 (or something like this). Then I asked for a Device Manager update and unexpectedly enough (never happened to me) it DID update. The new driver is Intel`s from 20/11/2015, version 20.19.15.4331. After that, all has been perfect. I tried this with two different Windows install languages (English and Portuguese), 64 bit, in the two SSDs. It has worked.

As I haven`t seen this solution for this problem in the net or here, I hope this may help some.

Besides these two solutions below, has anyone has success with other cables/adapters from USB Type C to work with 4K @ 60Hz? Main questions:

    - has anyone tried monoprice adapter to DisplayPort: http://www.monoprice.com/product?c_id=103&cp_id=10330&cs_id=1033001&p_id=13234&seq=1&format=2

    - actually I would love a USB Type-C to MINI Display Port as I have several cables for that. Any success with any adapter?

    - also USB Type-C to HDMI 4k @ 60hz for my 4K TV? Do I need an specific cable (I have the Monoprice Ultra Slim from 2 or 3 years ago)?

    Appreciate any help.

BTW: the monoprice cable below is out of stock, which makes assessing the adapter even more necessary.

This is for 65W+ power adapters. It will not fit our little 45W adapter.

I looked everywhere for the folding plug insert, and found a press release on Dell's website stating that it has been discontinued due to reliability/safety concerns. So we are stuck with the extra length of cable...

Just got one of these laptops for my wife. She noticed starting today that the computer would lock up completely after about an hour working on it. She was doing some MBA stuff with a few chrome windows and an excel spreadsheet open. Any suggestions on forcing the fans to kick on or keep it cooler better?

So looks like now that my wife's computer only locks up when copying and pasting in excel 2010. You guys think its a memory issue potentially?

Unless she is working with some kind of insane / huge worksheets and formulas, then no, not a memory issue.

If its ONLY happening in Excel, I'd reinstall the program and see if that resolves it.

I also have the sleep problem. I did all the power management changes, tried to put it to sleep clicking the "Start" command and closing the lid; tried with and without Intel Rapid Storage... It consumed 75% Battery through 9 hours. This is really a bum.

1.1.7 fixed the bug with nvme ssd that prevented the cpu from entering s3 mode, and fixed long boot time. However sleep mode bugs are still there, so we'll have to be patient apparently it's cause by a combination of Skylake NVME and windows 10...they will update the bios for that I'm sure.

Please update your wifi drivers as they fix some BSOD and lags.

Thanks! I also gather from the above post about the XPS 15 that Dell already fixed it for that model. Let`s hope they do it soon for ours...

Until then, I guess I`ll hibernate when I`m on battery, then.

Now I can`t re-install Intel Rapid Storage, it fails... kkk

You're crazy if you buy this computer to do anything important. It literally can reboot and shutdown just after being left sitting for 15 minutes. You could lose so much important work with this thing.

It happens quite often. Serious bug.

So I am thinking it could be the Dell D3100 dock as the culprit. The problem occurs when she is copying and pasting anything in excel, the computer will lock up and then the video will go out (Screen goes black.)

Going to check the event viewer right now. Any suggestions on a video out dongle? She needs to connect this laptop to a dell U3415W monitor.

Every once in awhile, edge will freeze temporarily and I'll get a pop-up that says "Display driver has stopped responding and has recovered" and under it says "Display driver Intel HD Graphics Drivers for Windows 8(R) stopped responding and has successfully recovered"

I have updated all of the drivers I can find on the dell website but it still happens, does anyone know why?

And my only other complaint is that on chrome even after all of the updates, the scrolling is still choppy and there seems to be lag when I am typing fast, are there any solutions to those? Thanks

Dang, so many people with issues. I haven't had any problems with the laptop waking up when closed, shutting down when asleep, randomly rebooting, or even display driver crashing. Microsoft Signature Edition, $999 model.

The only issue mine has is a very quiet coil whine which I'm quite fine with.

    Anyway, just my 0.02

What kind of realistic battery life is everyone getting?

After several charge cycles and bios update, Windows is consistently estimating about 6 hours on a full charge at 50% brightness while web browsing and performing simple tasks. This seems a bit low to me... I thought I was supposed to be getting 10-11 hours on the current bios release?

Battery life depends on the configuration you have, QHD or FHD.
I myself have a FHD model and get around 10-12 hours of word, outlook, pdf and edge browsing at ~10-30% brightness.

I have the i5 FHD model and get a pretty consistent 10-11 hours browsing and watching local videos on ~20% brightness (my average power draw seems to be around 5W when browsing/watching videos, and around 2-3W when idling with the screen on)

When my computer turns on itself after complete shutdown I try to restart and after that I can turn it off finally. So somehow after rebooting I can turn that thing off. By the way I am quite annoyed that I can not rely on the off/sleep state and hope there is some fix behind the corner. My battery wear is now 9,1 % (50,9 Wh available) probably because of those few almost complete discharges :(

Interesting... the one time this happened to me, even restarting didn't clear up the problem. I eventually had to hold down the power button to force the computer to turn off. Since then, however, I haven't had any issues with shutdown (though the computer has woken once or twice while asleep).

Hopefully I'm not being too optimistic, but it seems that solved my SLEEP problem. I don't which of the two below were responsible for that, but after I uninstalled Intel Rapid Storage to try to solve the sleep issue and failling to reinstall it, I did the following:

    - using the free Driver Booster (not doing any publicity here, just used it and worked, there may be other software), I updated all drivers it suggested, including the Rapid Storage. After that I did NOT have the exclamation mark in AHCI controller in Device Manager anymore, driver was there, although I don't have the Rapid Storage GUI to enable or disable it. After that, I tried again to install Rapid Storage driver that came from Dell, but it failed again. Nevertheless, before it failed it says that the driver version I had (the one installed by Driver Booster) was newer than Dell's.
    - I also enabled Hibernation via the command prompt, intending to hibernate as the PC couldn't SLEEP on battery without a huge battery drain.

After doing that I tried again sleep. First using the Star Menu, and then closing the lid. I let the PC Sleep overnight to test and several smaller times during the day, and I'm getting a regular 1% battery drain for every sleep hour which I think is consistent with my previous notebooks. I still haven't experienced any freeze or restart due to coming out of sleep. Hope it helps others.

I suggest to uninstall Dell's Video driver (ticking the "delete" files) in Device Manager and let Windows install the driver. After that, update the driver via Device Manager. I had the major Screen Flicker with Dell's driver, both in Dell's Windows pre loaded install, and in a Clean Windows install. Doing what I suggested, never had any Video issue anymore. "knock, knock, knock"...
