I'm in the same boat. Called support today and was told it could be 1 - 2 weeks before they get the parts in.

I bought my wife an XPS 13 a month ago, and liked it so much I decided to get myself one. I wanted to wait and hear how the experience was though on the Skylake version. Thanks for posting those reviews.

Yes it is disappointing. IE is buttery smooth when doing 2-finger scrolling, but Chrome is very jerky and you can feel the resistance. I wish Google would fix that, it's super annoying.

I've observed this happening in basically every single Windows machine I've ever used including my Surface. It seems it is Google/Chrome who is at fault. Edge is very smooth on my surface when doing 2 finger scroll but Chrome is awful and it also kills the battery life.

I ordered one of the new xps 13 models on Oct. 8 (the first day available) and the estimated delivery date has been Oct. 29 right up until yesterday (the last time I checked it). Today, however, the delivery date is showing December 15th. This is ridiculous.... Over two months to deliver a laptop that was listed as shipping in "8-11 business days" when I ordered it? Even now, Dell's website advertises the laptop as shipping in 14-18 business days. which would supposedly be before mine gets shipped. Has anyone else had their delivery date changed by this much?

    Edit: I ordered the i5, 8gb, 256gb, non-touch

My XPS 13 (from Oct 8th) was just updated to December 15th as well. A bit frustrating considering Dell keeps promoting the laptop as available and I suspect they have yet to ship any. Ah well.

Did yours enter production stage or is at pre-production still? My date still shows ETA on 10/26 and in production.

Mine was only in pre-production for a couple of hours, and switched to "in production" before I checked on the morning of October 9th.

I wouldn't mind so much if Dell wasn't still selling the laptop with a shipping estimate of three weeks when they just added six to mine. Seems a bit dishonest.

That's weird ! I hope they won't do the same with me, I don't know if the supply problems will affect Dell Europe (if you're in the US)...my xps 13 is still at november 4th, they delayed it from october 30th to november 4th. I hate it when a company doesn't communicate honestly...state the shipping date HONESTLY Dell, i feel that I'm going to get an email with a new date soon... !

May i get your configuration ?

I bought the i5, 8gigs of ram, matte non-touch version, with the upgrade to the 256 gb ssd.

I hope you get yours soon, it would be nice to see some reviews so I would know the long wait was worth it!

Edit: I'm in Canada, so that could be part of the delay too. It often is.

Ok so maybe dell europe indeed won't be as affected as their canadian counterpart regarding PCIE ssd supply shortages :), will post a big feedback here once i get it. I think it's worth the wait, few skylake laptops are that well designed :).

Also in Canada. I guess that's the issue. Mine has also been in production since nearly the beginning of the order. I called Dell yesterday and the customer service rep said that it didn't seem like there was a shortage of parts for my particular configuration and he was going to put in a request to get the order expedited. I somehow doubt anything will come of it, but I'll post back here if I have any success.

Ah, when I chatted to a rep on Monday (from work), they gave me this canned response:

Please accept my apology as we have not been able to ship your order before the date we initially expected. The change in estimated delivery date is unfortunate; however, the change was necessitated due to circumstances beyond our controls. The delay experienced is due to industry-wide constraints and extended delivery times on some components. I have sent a request to Factory. After I get there response, I will be contacting you again with an update.

I'm pretty much resigned to another six weeks at this point, so if they ship it before that I'll be pleasantly surprised.

they might ship it one or two week before, speaking as someone who bought a dell latitude E5540 and received it 10 days earlier than what was expected :).

If people who had their order delayed want to know something (benchmark, noise, screen, brightness etc.) please tell me i'll review it next week :).

Just got off the phone with Dell support. My online order status is still showing "in production" with an estimated delivery of December 15, however the rep advised me that the order has been completed and should be shipping in 48 - 72 hours. Once it ships, he said it should arrive in 3 - 5 business days.

    Hi,

Does anyone know the significant differences between an XPS 13 and XPS 15 (Skylake) beside CPU/GPU etc. Are the EIZO screens equally of quality (13inch I know will have lower resolution), what about battery life and trackpad/keyboard performance?

I may be tempted to just down size to a 13 inch - as I guess I will mainly be gimped on the GPU side of things - but this should mean a much better battery life or?

    It says in this review:
"Based on the USB-C platform, the Thunderbolt 3 port can be used to charge the XPS 13..."
I'm not sure I believe that. I haven't heard that before. I know the new MacBook has the capability to charge through the USB-C port, but that makes sense because it is the only port on the entire laptop. The XPS 13 has a dedicated power port so I never considered the idea that you would also be able to charge via the USB-C port. Do you think this reviewer is making assumptions? Or has anyone else heard this info?

This reviewer doesn't seem to think the XPS 13 supports charging through the USB-C port...

"Or, if Dell really wants to impress us, we'd like to see a model of the XPS 13 that can charge over the USB Type-C/Thunderbolt connector (much like Apple's super-thin 2015 MacBook, but with additional ports). That would let users leave the traditional power brick at home and charge their laptop with the same USB charger they use to top off their smartphone or tablet. For road warriors and gadget mavens alike, a future where one charger can re-juice all our devices can't come soon enough."

If it supports USB Power Delivery 2.0, then it should include both host-to-device and device-to-host power as per the spec. But I guess they didn't test that in this review.

Edit: and the features page includes this: " Leading-edge connectivity: Thunderbolt™ 3 multi-use port allows you to charge your laptop, connect to multiple devices (including support for up to two 4K displays) and enjoy data transfers up to 40Gbps, 8 times that of a USB 3.0." The Dell Thunderbolt Dock should also just use one cable, and will charge the XPS.

The review states ~10 hours of battery life for the 1080p non-touch version.
It will be interesting to see the battery life of the quad HD touch version.
Anybody remember the difference in battery time for the 2015 touch vs. non-touch versions?

Eagerly waiting for the XPS 13 to become available in Denmark...

I wonder if models equipped with sata SSD are pcie nvme capable. I think to order the $999 model (8G and 128G sata) and in a month or two buy a 512G Samsung sm950 pro.

The review posted earlier says NVM 2GB/sec read over 1GB/sec write (for the 256GB, I'm guessing the 128GB is still SATA)

Yes I know it, just afraid Dell disable pcie ability in those sata equipped models.
Apple does things like these on their Mac computers: no triming on ssd not bought to them, fan at full -noisy- speed if you install hdd not bought to them, etc. and they charge 2-3 times for same -but enabled- drives.

What's particularly troubling is I would describe scrolling in Chrome as "smooth" on my old X1 Carbon with Synaptics touchpad. It's clearly using some driver besides Windows 10, so maybe that's it. Or maybe there's still lag but I've just become desensitized to it lol.

Can't wait to try the X13 out at the Microsoft Store. It'll be really interesting to compare. I really want to get this computer, but I use Chrome as my primary browser.

It may be worth moving away from Chrome for laptop purposes anyway (fine on desktop) as it is such a huge battery/ram drain as it is.

I remember on my rMBP, just for general browsing, chrome was draining around 3-5x the battery life of using Safari. Had the same issue with Firefox.

read the review in AnandTech and you might change your mind...
very power hungry and running hot with thermally induced throttling....
also, random write ops could be better...
I was interested but plan to stick with the 500G 850 EVO....much lower power...

Yeah traditionnal Sata 3 M2 SSD are already super fast...why put in an ultrabook ,something that needs to NOT heat a lot and have a long battery life a PCIE SSD ...never understood that choice...but when apple decide to do something the sheeps follow...

I agree, the insides of Chrome aren't the "only" factor. Scrolling was terrible on my Surface Pro 3 until some months back, Chrome made a big update that supported touch elements. After that, yes scrolling by touching the screen was very smooth and Chrome was a much better experience with touch, but it also got "nearly" IE level smoothness when scrolling with the touchpad. So I assumed it was strictly the innards of Chrome that made the difference, but then like I said, getting my wife's XPS 13 a few weeks ago, was surprised to find the scrolling not as good in Chrome as IE. BUT, @slevinbel made a post here ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...lay-owners-thread.782674/page-6#post-10121777) pointing out the existence of smooth-scrolling extensions for Chrome, which I didn't know existed. I tried a couple out and was pretty happy, so I'm not too worried going forward on the XPS 13.

I ordered both of mine from the Microsoft Store, and (if you don't already know) if is says "Signature Edition", that's a clean Windows-only install with no crap. Does the French store not have the Signature versions?

    Typing from mine right now.

Chrome scrolling is pretty bad. It can be improved quite a bit by going to chrome:flags and enabling smooth scrolling. It's not perfect, but much better than initially. Without enabling this, I would have be pretty pissed off.

I currently don't notice any content aware brightness adjustments happening. Either it's not there, turned off, or I just don't notice it. I will note that I keep my brightness low anyway, so maybe I just don't notice it.

Windows 10 at native 1080p has some issues with the task menu icons -- they are tiny and blurry due to how Windows is resizing them. So far it looks like the only solution will be to use something like Startisback++ or some 3rd party start menu shell thing.

One question: Does anyone know if the temperature of the display can be adjusted? Feels a bit warm.

At least in the US, there is barely any bloatware to speak of other than mcafee. After you uninstall it, there are like 3-4 dell update applications and that's it. Clean install would be a huge waste of time IMO.
