Like @wedouglas says above, maybe there's nothing offensive on it? So perhaps you won't need to. If you decide to, if MS will give you an boootable drive or something, sure I'd take it. Otherwise, you can restore from the built-in recovery partition. I was concerned that the recovery image itself would be a factory image and there also contain the crapware, but it looks like MS has fixed that in Win10, according to these guys- http://www.howtogeek.com/216751/blo...he-need-to-ever-reinstall-windows-on-new-pcs/

True, true. The recent update helped somewhat but it's still not as good as some others in that regard. But the sync between mobile and desktop is so seamless that it's worth the hit imo.

Thanks for the links! You can also go directly into chrome://flags and enable smooth scrolling there. (NB: Mine's currently turned off.)

chrome users, if you update to latest insider build (actually slow ring works) the touchpad works far better in chrome. MS must have updated the driver.

Interesting, I think you've got it there. I'm on the fast ring on my Surface Pro 3, and you are correct, Chrome scrolls nearly as smoothly as IE on that machine. Thanks for the good insight!

I have noticed some issues with the graphics drivers. Upon waking up from sleep, I see some graphical issues and I'm having a problem with Lightroom using the GPU acceleration.

What sort of issues. I'm contemplating adding one of these to my camera bag to tether when on location with either lightroom or capture1. Please provide me some details. Cheers. AL

Well, as of right now there is no GPU support acceleration support in Lightroom for Camera Raw. You have to go into Preferences > Performance, and uncheck "Use Graphics Processor."

The only other graphical issue I noticed was with the Chrome add-on Hangouts. Upon waking from sleep, the transparent gradient that surrounds the floating UI seems to just turn black. Upon Googling it though, it seem like it might be a a HiDPI issue. Not sure. I assumed it was the graphics driver, but maybe not.

In any case, thus far I don't think there are any serious problems with this computer or the drivers.

Hi all, I'm considering this laptop. But as I have seen, there aren't any Display port or HDMI ports on the device. So how the hell are we supposed to connect this PC to an external monitor? Do we have to buy Dell's own adapters? (which are not on sale at the moment) Or will any USB-C Thunderbolt to HDMI cable work? (For example the ones for Apple's new Macbook)

Monoprice appears to have a $34 adapter , and their adapters were mentioned in macworld article 2907214. It appears this is so new Beldin hasn't released tbolt 3 connector accessories... http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_...id=1033001&p_id=12905&seq=1&format=4#feedback
Dell has a pretty good looking adapter - USB Type-C to HDMI/VGA/Ethernet/USB 3.0 ECD TBD.

Can someone confirm that these USB-C to HDMI adapters work in the XPS 13? Because all of them say they are made for Apple Macbook.

Is there simple compact Type C dock out there that only has video port (either HDMI, DVI or VGA I don't care really), ethernet and USB port(s)?

I was searching a bit, but I either found adapters that only converted to one type (like type C to HDMI only), huge dock stations or adapters that were designed for new macbook only so they had lots of ports that would be redundant for me (audio jack, card reader etc.).

Dell has one "coming soon", looks like they've reserved their spot on Amazon here- http://amzn.com/B012DT6KW2. It looks really good too, everything us XPS 13 owners could want.

Apple makes some that would be compatible ( here and here) but those are far inferior in my opinion, as you have to choose a specific AV format, whereas with the Dell adapter, you get everything.

Do you think Dell's adapter will support all those ports being used simultaneously? So you could have 3 displays plugged in at the same time, provided that they use different plugs.

I'm no expert, but I can't imagine why not. It is after a very real and reasonable scenario- plugged into a VGA monitor, as well as an HDMI projector, etc.

This is the config I want except with 512GB hard drive. I just chatted with Dell and they said there is no customization now or ever on the XPS 13. Now when I bought my current one (last generation), I"m pretty sure they tweaked it beyond the website. Anyone know for sure? Since I do not want touchscreen, my only option would be to purchase a 128GB model and an aftermarket drive. Appreciate any input.

I'm thinking to buy the i5 8gb ram 128gb sata ssd, later i'll buy a pcie nvme 512gb to use instead of installed ssd. I have a mini case adapter for use the 128gb sata ssd as a fast usb flash memory.

I'm pretty sure this is what you are stuck with this time around. If 128gb gets too snug for me, I'll be buying an Intel SSD and swapping out the OEM one.

    hey all;

i'm planning on purchasing the xps 13 soonish.
but i remain unsure about the configurations.

i know i'd like to try out a touchscreen so that rules out the cheaper models.
so then, the biggest differences in the remaining setups come down to either

    so...

    is $350 worth
    128gb ssd
    core i7

    and

    is $750 worth
    core i7
    8gb memory
    384gb ssd

    or looked at another way

(starting from a $1600 baseline) is $450 worth
    core i7
    8gb memory

it's the memory part that still gets me. i do engage in a fair bit of multitasking, but it's usually never too strenuous. downloading, browsing (super loads of tabs usually), word processor. sometimes gaming (lol) thrown in.
but, 8gb should still be sufficient for all that, yea?

8Gb will be more than sufficient, 16Gb is for specific tasks : gaming, simulation, work, virtual machines etc....8gb for the end user is good, just don't use Chrome, it's a RAM eater...and a battery eater too. But you'll still be able to use it with tons of tabs, just that it's not the optimal ultrabook web browser ;)

Getting to the point of order and it seems the price of the one I wanted has gone up.

I'm sure the i7 16GB QHD one was £1349 and now it's £1399. Did anyone else notice a price increase?

On the plus side the delivery time has gone down to 3-5 days.

I just got mine (so much for the frightening Dec 15th estimate lol) and the logo does fade in for me. It takes just over a second, but it isn't instant. That is with the 1080p FHD screen, but I haven't looked to see if there is a way to disable it in bios or anything (I literally have had it out of the box for less than 20 minutes).

Woohoo! Just got mine right now. Even though on the status, mine is still in production. But anyway I'll go straight to what I noticed has changed.

The touchpad!! OMG it feels like a MacBook's! I'd say its about 90% MacBook level. And the touch has a more glassy feel to it. Greatly improved!!!

Unfortunately, CABC is still here. So the sales rep lied to me about the Model 9350 not having it. I asked the rep first before purchasing. But like on the 9343, I can live with it. It seems the IGZO panel itself has CABC on it.

The rest is just the same.

Content-adaptive backlight control (CABC). I think he is talking about the adaptive brightness issue that many complained about with the previous generation XPS 13.

So I was trying to install Windows 7 on a separate partition... disabled Secure Boot and enabled Legacy ROMs in BIOS. The initial set-up was fine and even Windows Boot manager recognized the other OS.. however went it was just about to load, the Blue Screen Of Death appeared. It seems Dell's firmware is preventing muti-OS booting on the device. On the 9343 model though I was able to do this and have been switching from Windows 10 and 7. But on this model, there is something on the BIOS that is preventing a second OS to be installed. Any one has any ideas about this? Greatly appreciated.

I'd be afraid to test that myself. I wouldn't want to fry anything in case it's not supported. How about you try it and let us know.
I think the only way to test that right now would be to use the Apple MacBook 29watt usbc power adapter. I think charging would be much slower at only 29 watts. The Dell usb-c Dock is not available yet. Hopefully it will charge through the dock, but it's possible that it doesn't which would be a real shame.

Hi all. I've just placed an order for the i5/8gigs with 128HD. I really would like 512 gogs, but there's no option to add this with the FHD matte display.

So I'm going to order an aftermarket 512Gb HD.

Any thoughts on which M.2 sata drives i should put in there?

    Thanks in advance.

Any one else noticing the CPU fan seems to be a lot more audible on the 9350? Although it is really silent most of the time, when the fan does kick in, it has this vibrating noise that is really annoying. My previous 9343 did not have this. Any one the same boat or mine is simply an isolated case?

Just ordered the QHD+ 16GB RAM 512GB SSD. I said to the chat window it was a bit expensive and they gave me £100 off!
So if you are ordering online worth waiting for the "do you want to chat" popup and asking for a discount.

I haven't had that issue so far. Have you triggered the cpu fan? How loud is it? the 9350 seems to have a different system cooling with the 9343. It sounds like the fan is really exposed as opposed to the one on the 9343 where the fan, when triggers, sounds enclosed.
