Does anyone else get a few seconds of audio distortion if you unplug the laptop while playing audio/video btw? If so, any idea how to fix this?
-
I have CABC active on a Yoga 2 and if it works in the same way on a XPS 13 9350, maybe it isn't too much annoying.
-
Is there any source about that? Are they getting returns from angry purchasers due to the dbc?
-
I've been playing around with my XPS:es for a while. What I can conclude is that the bouncy touchpad seems to not be a software issue - if you are still experiencing it after the updates, it is a hardware issue. I have two XPS 13s, one with a bouncy touchpad and one that works flawlessly. If i make a recovery USB of the working xps and install the image on the broken one - it doesn't fix the issue. So it must be a hardware issue that is causing the rubber band effect, at least on my unit.
On a side note - after a clean-install, the coil whine is not present until I install the graphics driver. Don't know why, but as soon as i update the driver i get the coil whine, especially when scrolling. -
interesting observation
i just did a clean install of windows 10 and it seems to have gotten better but maybe im just crazy, its still not as smooth as my 8 year old vaio.
i dont have a rubber band effect though i just have it where if your moving in very small movements....like say you bring up the calculator and start adding and subtracting, its not smooth AT ALL -
Can anyone get their bluetooth headphones working with their 9350? I've tried in vain for over an hour to get my AKG Y45BT headphones to work with my XPS 13. I can pair them up. But I can't get any sound output from the AKGs. I've tried everything. Different bluetooth drivers. Broadcom bluetooth tool. Pairing, unpairing. Does our Dell Wireless 1802 even support A2DP. And I thought it was a Broadcom chip like the WiFi, but I have a suspicion it may be a Qualcomm Atheros part.
-
Which Intel part are some people using to replace the Dell (Broadcom) 1802 wireless card. And which type of M2 form factor do I need?

Yeah, I get this too. Just noticed it the other day. No idea on a fix yet. -
I bought the "Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 (8260NGW) NGFF wifi card 867Mbps 2.4/5GHz" listed on Amazon - works perfectly (wifi at home, wifi connection to mobile phone as hotspot, 2 x bluetooth mic, bluetooth presenter and a bluetooth printer). Just make sure you install both the wirelesss and bluetooth drivers, they are separate downloads.
-
That is strange, I reinstalled and had coil whine until the drivers were updated. Unfortunately as a number of drivers were installed at the same time I could not tell which one it was that made the difference.
-
I was more disappointed than angry; especially after Dell said they would make a fix available in May but it took until December to release and only to QHD+ models. I preordered the Skylake FHD in November figuring that since Dell already knew about the issue, they would fix before sending out. They reduced the DBC response time instead of making it optional.
You can see a lot of complaints for the Broadwell model:

My Sony headset (SBH20) works fine.
Let me know if you find anything. -
I see the same thing.
If I remove the driver, there is no more noise. And when I reboot, th edriver reinstall it, the sound comes back. -
Yes, the Intel HD 520 is the one that enables the coil whine. However, I'm not an expert, but it might just be that within the driver the graphics card is not 100% utilized and when the driver is installed the sound is inevitable. However, it might also bring hope for a future release that could fix the sound, you never know..
-
Sadly, this didn't work for me. Updated that driver a few days ago, and my computer woke spontaneously from sleep some time last night. The only solution I've found is disabling hibernation completely.
-
I guess everybody know there is some really good deals on Dell's outlet on these right now but the coupons don't work and you have to call or chat somebody up to get them to deduct the $500 or 25% depending on what price system you might want. I just got an i7/8/256/qhd for 850 which seems pretty good.
-
Does the Intel 8260 perform a lot better than the pre-installed Dell (Broadcom) wireless card?
-
I wonder about this too... My old UX32VD was upgraded with a intel 7260, and the built in dell 1820 runs corners around that (ux32vd with 7260 gave me ~350mbps, and the dell 1820 in the xps13 gives me ~520mbps from the same range, ~5m from router) ofc it is an easy upgrade, but i doubt it will do much good, considering that the 1820 seems pretty good to me...
-
Yikes... I'm now in a sleep/wake shutdown/boot loop that only holding down the power button can break.

XPS 13 9350 - battery have only 53,5 Wh capacity instead of 57,5 Wh (loss of 7%)
Hi,
since a few days i own a new XPS 13 9350
according to the documents it should have a 57.5 Wh battery (construction-capacity).
as measured by Battery Bar and Dell Support Assist my battery has fully charged "only" 53.5 Wh battery capacity or even a loss of capacity of 6.9% at delivery ....
Is this normal ? -
Mine is the same as yours, and I have seen other similar posts, so I am assuming normal.
-
I actually had that in the beginning, but according to the battery report from powercfg, the battery charged beyond the full level to 106%. After a while it normalized and now the capacity is 57,532 mWh. Give it a few weeks, maybe.
-
New configs for the 13/15 models. Iris has been added and at least in Sweden, the prices haven't changed. They bumped up the i7-models to 6560u with intel iris for the same price as the previous i7-models.
-
Mine the same
-
Has anyone noticed it anywhere else in Europe? Can't see anything on the UK site.

I see new options available for the 15" xps, I haven't been looking at the 13". No new cpu on the 15, but new options for i7 with FHD screen.

External monitor:
A - I have a Dell U2713H and a U2713HM. I can NOT get my XPS 13 to display on them through DisplayPort. I have a Monoprice adapter from USB Type-C to DP, with a new cable, both said to be 1.2 compliant. I managed to enable DP 1.2 on the monitor, but the image is still blank. Does anyone know what may be happening? Can it be the Video Driver as I'm not using Dell's because of flickering issue?
B - on the other hand, with a Monoprice HDMI adapter and a regular HDMI cable I am being able to get the full 1440p resolution of the monitor (at least on the 2713H, as I currently I don't have access to the HM)
C - also, when I try to install Dell's driver, it detects the monitor as a Sharp SHP 144A (I assume it is the panel), which did not happen with other computers with older connectors (DP and miniDP) than our Thurderbolt. I had to change the monitor settings via the monitor itself.
With B and C I managed to be in working conditions, but would appreciate any help on A, as I have the cables and adapter to use DP, and would prefer to use them over HDMI. Thanks.
PS: A little disappointed that Dell updated to Iris without previous warning, could have waited a little longer to buy the XPS... I understand that is how technology evolves, but with the annual cycles, you know what you are getting when you are getting it, knowing when it will become obsolete (or less current), whereas with an update like this one feels a little cheated.Last edited: Jan 28, 2016 -
Nothing on US site, as far as I can tell...

They put the new i7 6560U in France and Switzerland for 20 CHF/€ more. I just purchased the XPS with I7 6500U 2 days ago... I don't know if I should cancel and take the new i7... Someone has an idea about it?

Iris pro graphics are usually much better than the regular Intel HD 520 ones largely due to a much larger cache on the CPU. If you are doing graphically intensive tasks, definitely spring for the newer model. -
Hey everyone, new poster here and wondering if I could get some advice.
I recently purchased a 9350 from the Dell Outlet. It's a scratch and dent refurb and is set to arrive on Wednesday. I got an QHD i76500U, 16gb RAM, 512gb PCIe SSD, Intel HD 520. It was listed for £1050 (down from £1400 RRP) but I got it for £945 with student discount. On the assumption it arrives in a reasonably good condition I was wondering if you could answer the following q:
Basically I plan to use it as a daily laptop, and also for video editing. Nothing fancy but I make youtube gaming commentaries and I basically capture gameplay from my PS4 and edit the 1080p footage on my laptop adding a few layers and graphics. Seeing as I'm not really techy I was wondering if you guys would advise on how this model would compare against the newly released i76560U with the Intel Iris 540. Do you guys think it would be worth returning the laptop I've just bought and purchasing the newer model? (Mind you, I did get quite a good price on the model I bought and I can't afford to purchase a brand new one so I'd have to wait quite a while and hope one of the new models ends up in the outlet for a similar price - who knows how long that will take).
From what I've read RAM is much more important so the 16gb model I have purchased should serve me well and I don't know if I'd get another 16gb model at this price. I honestly thought with the newer graphics Dell would bump up the price which is why I just took the plunge and purchased the refurb one but having seen them keep it the same I'm quite surprised. With the Iris 540 scoring nearly twice as much as the HD 520 on benchmark tests, coupled with a slightly more powerful processor - I'm having second thoughts.
Any advice would be reeeally appreciated
-
Thanks for your answer! I ordered the if 6500U with RAM 8Go, SSD 256 and FHD to have a better battery life. I'm just doing photo treatment with lightroom so I think it's fine with the 520 too?
I was wondering if the 6500 would be a little bit better for other tasks due to its higher clock (2,5-3.1 / 2.2-3.2 Ghz I think)? In term of battery life I guess it's quite similar?
Thanks for you help! It's a good forum with a lot of interesting informations! -
I am hoping more than anything, that the Intel Iris versions will have better QA / fix minor issues in the current version. Really looking forward to this model being available in the Microsoft Store - think I will pull the trigger - unless something really competitive comes out shortly.
-
I can't offer any advice on the graphics but you might be waiting a while for the new ones to show up on the outlet, and the prices vary drastically.
I stalked the UK outlet for 3 months before I bought one, it was all 9343 models until earlier in January when some 9350 showed up. I got one of the first ones and got an amazing deal, I was worried the laptop would show up battered but it's in perfect condition. I got the i7 16gb 1tb model for £815+vat, last week the same model was on there for £1119+vat. It's bizarre and I was lucky, could never have afforded it otherwise. I was going to buy a 9343 but the day I chose happened to have some 9350 and for some inexplicable reason they were cheaper than the 9343 models.
So I'd guess another 2 or 3 months until the new model shows up and who knows how much it will be when it does! -
To all current owners with the QHD+ touch screen. I see reviews saying that gaming performance is about half of what it is for the FHD screen model. Is this true for you? I don't see how the touch screen matters in gaming performance if the resolution is set at 720p for both configurations.
Thx -

They're probably playing at native res. 720p performance should always be better than 1080p gaming performance. That said, if you're looking to game on anything harder to run than maybe Minecraft, this laptop is probably not the one for you. -
This is due to the UEFI setup setting for the maximum battery charge. If set to not charge the battery fully (to prolong the lifetime), you'll see 100% as less than the ~ 56/57 Wh capacity (perhaps 53 Wh). Windows seems to get confused by this, sometimes claiming 100% charge in the notification area, but sometimes saying 106% in the powercfg battery reports. The default setting is adaptive, so the 100% level may vary depending on usage patterns with respect to charging / depleting. Setting to UEFI setting to mains powered (so it always stops charging 95 % - but appears to Windows as 100%, albeit with the apparent battery capacity at 53 Wh - and avoiding running the battery down below 25% will help prolong battery life).

after an usb reinstall of windows...how i can the boot fast like in the factory mode ? i've to enable secure boot etc ?

Does anyone tried Samsonite Thermo Tech Case Cover For Apple Macbook Air 11 with XPS 13?

I just ordered it anyway. Will see how it fits.Last edited: Jan 30, 2016 -
Soon there will be options to use external video cards through Thunderbolt 3 - NVIDIA added beta support for GeForce GTX in the latest driver.
-
I still don't know whether I want the 13 or 15
-
No one?!
I'm also getting the coming back from sleep blank screen. I have to unplug Thunderbolt, take cable power off from the monitor and then plug both cables back to get image on the monitor. That's soooo annoying...
-
I don't think it's a Dell problem as I have seen it on HP spectre x2s and there seems to be a ton of issues with this and the SP4 and surface book as well. It is a skylake problem or board problem, or new intel adapter problem. It would seem it will get fixed eventually.mbernstein likes this.

I was purely looking for information on relative performance between FHD and QHD+ models. I know gaming performance is low on the laptop. This laptop will only see light gaming (on a trip perhaps ) and as such 720p gaming is acceptable.
-
Thank you for the clarification. Let's hope.

BIOS 1.2.3 is out. They sure seem to have a lot of bugs to fix.. well, at least they're doing it.

After reading countless posts on the XPS13, I still went for the XPS13.
I can say that after owning this laptop for this first month, it's been an amazing laptop experience coming from the MacBook pro 15'' mid 2015. My MacBook pro was destroyed from a liquid incident..and I went on to do a bit of research on Windows 10 and also found that liquid damage is part of the warranty. I went ahead with the laptop and I currently love it!PAPPL likes this. -
That's really useful info, thanks. It sure is a shame that I managed to snag a nonIris model. I'. m probably going to end up keeping it because I'm an inpatient bast**d. I'll keep taking a look daily and if I see a new model in the next 13 days after it arrives I may consider a return. -
No, NVIDIA stated it in the release notes.
Razer Core is such GPU dock that will work with all PCs over Thunderbolt 3.ascariss likes this.
