This should really be restated as "The Razer Core is a GPU dock that could work with PCs that have Thunderbolt 3." The laptop manufacturer will very likely have to implement some bios revisions. Nowhere has Razer said what they are doing will work on every computer - they have only stated that they are not doing anything proprietary and it is possible for other laptops with Thunderbolt 3 to utilize the Razer Core if the software is changed a bit.

Has anyone actually got a working GPU dock at the moment? not a proprietary socket one, but a thunderbolt 3 one? Even if it's for a different system, or is the Razer Core the only one on the horizon?
Whether or not this works with the XPS15 is the last question to answer for me before I place an order, I wish there was more info available. -
Would it make a significant difference? Only asking as the 15 comes with a 960M which is reasonably capable. I would guess the docks would only be hugely important on the 13 and other 13 inch devices where dedicated graphics are almost non existent.
-
Well I have 2 concerns here :
1. I already have a GTX 970 desktop card in my desktop, but that pc has a pretty old motherboard and cpu. I'd like to retire it, but use the powerful gtx970 with the laptop I'm about to buy.
2. I want the new laptop to stay reasonably powerful for as long as possible. In my experience, it's graphics cards that quickly fall behind the curve, not so much cpu. Ram and hard drives can be upgraded, graphics and cpu can't. The ability to reliably use an egpu would massively extend the lifetime of any laptop (from a gaming point of view).
3. I've heard mixed reports on the capability of the 960m for gaming. Some people say it's fine for 1080p for pretty much any game, but others say it's not good enough for Fallout4, Witcher3 etc. I can live without everything on max details, but if it's already borderline with current titles, then it's longevity is questionable. Now again if I can reliably use an egpu then this is not a significant concern. The times when I'll be gaming away from my home (where the egpu will live) are few, and I can reduce the resolution for those occasions. -
So I upgraded to the newest BIOS and updated the thunderbolt 3 firmware, but I feel like the fan is turning on more often and the keyboard is bottom of the laptop and the side near the TB port are heating up now when they weren't doing so before. At this point I'm only watching a video on YouTube in Firefox and have this tab open. Firefox is using about 377.7 MB in task manager. This may just be me being over-sensitive but can anyone else report back with the state of their laptop following the BIOS update?
-
double post, sorry
-
Exactly the same here. Immediatly after the BIOS-update the fan wouldn't turn off at all. It got better, but it's definetly more activ than before.
-
No problems here with BIOS 1.2.3 and latest TB, fans are normal (silent on i5/FHD). Make sure that you reset BIOS to defaults for first boot after upgrading, then reset.

Anybody know where you can get a version of the 9350_Video_Driver_T9DXW_WN32_20.19.15.4300 driver that will work with the xps13 as now you can't install the DBC update if you have updated the driver to .4331? There is no rollback available and I suppose I could always rollback the os to get there but I am looking for something easier. I can't find all drivers on the Dell site. I tried the one fro the intel site but says not compatible with this system.
-
For the latest Intel one (4352, which fixes many things, including MS Maps graphics so you can actually see the roads, lol), download the zip version, unzip then follow the "Have disk" instructions in the Installation_Readme.txt file. This will skip the Dell error. https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25620/Intel-Graphics-Driver-for-Windows-7-8-1-10-15-40-6th-Gen-floydo likes this.
-
Great, thanks. I will give it a try. I'm guessing it I still won't be able to install the DBC update though until Dell updates it to work beyond 4300.
Ah..I found the .4300 zip version (eventually)..I will try that first, apply the fix and then try the 4352 version after that.
Thanks again, that worked great. I was able to back down to 4300, install the cabc patch and then upgrade it to 4352.Last edited: Feb 1, 2016 -
Anybody try to install the samsung nvme driver and get the error saying nvme express device not connected? I know it says it's only for the 950 pro but I thought I read here that it would also work with the 951.
hmmm...I'm guessing I can't do that without changing the raid mode.Last edited: Feb 1, 2016 -
After yesterday's update done with Dell Command Update the computer drains battery like crazy, even if it is turned completely off.
I noticed it was warm yesterday, even if it was in resting mode with the lid closed. So I shut it down completely off when I went to bed last night. The battery then was at 43% and today the battery is 1% when I start it up.

Now that the XPS 13 finally has Iris graphics, should this benchmark be quite close to what to expect?

Seems like a good step up from the HD520, I think I might now be convinced to get one! -
They released a new thunderbolt firmware update today..maybe the last one caused your problem if you had installed it

Hi everybody,
I am a happy new owner of a 9350 (fhd/i5/256), received last week. I've been following this thread for the last weeks - it greatly helped me choosing this particular model.
One of the first things that I've checked was the CBAC "feature" on my display. Well, it seems that I do not have it.
For a good reason, it seems that I do not have the display everybody else has (SHP 1420). Mine is SHP 1449.
Anybody else can confirm that Dell is shipping new FHDs ?Last edited: Feb 3, 2016 -
How can you tell?
-
HWiINFO or simply Device Manager->Monitor->Hardware Ids
-
anyone know when this model will be put on Dell's site?
-
Mine also have SHP 1449 panel. The laptop (FHD/i5/128) was bought in the beginning of January from US Dell online store. It seems I haven't experienced CBAC yet or maybe i can't notice it.

That would be interesting. Give it a test here: http://tylerwatt12.com/dc/PAPPL likes this. -
I see the image fade in so the feature is here.

Yeah, it should. Mine did when I tested it a couple weeks ago. I heard it's possible to get CABC disabled on the FHD, but you need the tools to flash the firmware. The QHD has built-in firmware flashing capabilities, which is why a tool is available now. -
So looks like the issue with my Wife's laptop with the video driver crashes is related to a failing SSD. The laptop is a little over 45 days old and already have a dying SSD.
-
I did upgrade BIOS (including the thunderbolt firmware?) and the XPS seems OK with great battery time again.
-
Did it, thanks. I had been using the Device Manager's video drive to avoid the blinking problem. Then I installed latest Dell's to try to solve the back from sleep problem with external monitors staying blank. It did not solve the issue, but I had no blinking problem, so perhaps the blinking thing is a gone for good problem from older drivers. Then I installed this one to try to solve the back from sleep issue. It installed OK, but did not solve the problem completely. Now I don't have to plug off the monitor (yes, just turning off did not do it), I can unplug e replug my thunderbolt HMDI adapter and will get the external monitor with image again. Not the right thing, but less bad and less annoying, although still a little frustrating. Still no DisplayPort image with Thunderbolt DP adapter on my Dell U2713H.
Hope it helps others. -
which one of the sleeve on the market works fine with the xps 13 ?
Last edited: Feb 3, 2016 -
That's some progress, at least. But yeah Intel, Dell and MS still have a lot of work to do to get this new platform working to its full ability. I guess the combination of new chips & new drivers & new ports & new OS has really stretched them this time. At least they're iterating quickly, though.
-
I think so. This plus the Iris Graphics not being available with the release of the new Skylake XPS (just after upgrade cycle began) is a bummer.
-
Tried with IE full screen. No fade. Or I do not notice it

I've been using a neoprene sleeve for 11/11.6: laptops with no issues. -
Does the new processor have coil whine? My i7 (2 months old) does have a slight coil whine - noticeable when it is completely quiet in the room.
-
double.
-
Mine did not make it and I did not make anything to remove it. I have the XPS like it came from the shop with updated drivers. Obviously was disabled from Dell. I am in Europe.
-
Mine also is 1449, and I definitely DO have adaptive brightness.
-
It seems that the test it's browser dependent - with Firefox the image fade in but IE11 shows it right away.

you guys have understand that:
1) Dell has NO control on the DBC Sharp put on the panel.
2) It doesn't matter if you're from Europe, or if your are European, it would still be the same panel
3) Sharp, just like any other major corporation, makes things in mass production. Therefore your panel may have a different HW ID from the others, but it still came from the SAME assembly line.
4) That fading test is a joke. If you need to use that test for YOU to see "if" your XPS 13 has DBC enabled, then that means you have not been noticing it when you are using your XPS. You only realized it has DBC because of that test. Which means DBC to you is irrelevant since you don't notice it anyway. Me on the other hand, just like some people, noticed DBC right away. -

Source? I hope that's true. If it is, that is certainly good news

Anyone having touchpad issues? Mine is fine mostly, but sometimes it goes wonky and stops responding to taps and will only process clicks, and scrolling does weird things like highlight or drag instead of just scrolling. If I restart, everything goes back to normal, but it's irritating having to restart when I'm in the middle of something.

tools referring to hardware needed to flash the display controller on the lcd. -
Hi all!
So I own the FHD/i5 model for a month now (signature edition) and It's great and all but there are still many issues.. The big ones are the sleep problem (I see many stopped complaining so I wonder if it solved?) and really annoying sound issues especially with headphones connected (random white noise and "popping" sound). Does fresh win10 install might fix those issues?? I have the latest Intel and dell drivers of course including the intel thermal framework one. BTW I did try to disable Maxxsense but no help..
Thanks in advance! -
When you say you tried to disable Maxxsense, do you mean you couldn't disable it or disabling it made no difference? Once you turn it off completely (not just ending the process) you should hear the overall sound quality get "worse". Maxxsense forces the speakers to work over capacity and some users on another thread have even had their speakers break because of this. I've had Maxxsense off for a few weeks now and I don't hear anymore popping or static thankfully. That being said I do get some weird noise when I unplug my laptop while listening to something.
Regarding the sleep issue, have you updated all the drivers - including the chipset drivers? -
Just curious, im still experiencing a bouncy touchpad. Is anyone else able to install the dell touchpad driver from their support website?
http://www.dell.com/support/home/se...top&driverId=377D1&c=se&l=sv&s=bsd&cs=sebsdt1
I can install it, it says it was successful, but when i click "finish" I'm met with a message that just says installation failed.. -
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch set Bouncing to 0
-
1. What I mean is that disabling it made no difference, though it's not an issue with the speakers, but when I plug in earphones I hear it right before and after a sound is being made and randomly while surfing the web (pops in and out..) even when I mute sound completely I still hear it slightly, it's not a problem with my earphones since they work fine in any other device. am I the only one having these?
2. As for the sleep issue, I did install the latest chipset driver and all other drivers besides the latest bios, happened to me a few days ago and again yesterday (found the laptop at 0% battery
), If you are sure it is fixed then I'll might try to reinstall them AND maybe try a clean win10 install.
Thanks again and sorry for my english
-
Huh, surface and surfacebook suffer from that sleep battery drain too. Maybe it's a skylake bug. GG Intel.
I don't have it on my xps13, checked your chipset driver or tried reinstalling os? -
Are there any keyboard protectors available for EU/UK layout?
-
Updating, actually, it seems that the computer out of sleep can't take the monitor from sleep. If before opening the lid I manually touch the monitor menu and take the monitor out of its sleep mode, then when I wake up the XPS the dual monitor works OK. Not yet the way it should be, but less bad.
-
Computer won't charge fully now. Initially stopped at 95% ... 94% ... now we're down to 89%.
-
Hey I was wondering if anyone has successfully changed their WiFi card on the XPS 9350?
Mine (European) came with the Broadcomm Dell 1820A which was absolutely atrocious in terms of range, we're talking a 70-80% drop in speed compared to my 5 year old Toshiba. So I replaced it with an Intel 8260, the alternative card on the American models. The WiFi works great, but the Bluetooth has 0 functionality. I can't even find it in devices, I need to go to device manager - where it is clearly listed, but has a little exclamation mark in a triangle next to it. I've tried updating drivers from Intel and Dell, all to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
