My invoice says 512GB pcie and benchmarks on review of 256GB seem like pcie ( which I think is why the review model had 256GB as 128GB is slow SATA )
-
Does anybody with dell xps 13 9350 equipped with pcie ssd can tell what make and model is its drive? Thanks.

Just got mine tonight, an i am getting it configured. i have noticed that the touch pad two finger scrolling doesn't seem to great. It works, "ok" in Edge (not fantastic, but serviceable) but iit is atrocious in Chrome. I have the Corei5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 1080p Display.
So far, for Chrome, i have tried:
- Chrome Flags: Smooth Scrolling (seems worse)
- SmoothScroll ChromeAddin. (seems to make it a bit better, but not as good as edge, which isnt stellar to begin with.
- OS Scalling set to 0
Any thoughts on how to improve? (different driver, etc?)
Everything else on the laptop seems fantastic. I am going to be using the trackpad often, so i hope i can make this better, on this otherwise perfect laptop -
-
Kind of glad I held off, it doesn't look like people are overly impressed (especially with the trackpad), I might just purchase one in a few months but will definitely check out what Apple decides to do with its retina macbook pro and skylake update before deciding between the two.
-
It doesnt feel like there is an issue with the touchpad itself....just the way it is registering the speed. So, maybe a setting, or an updated driver will help. -
My biggest issue with the touchpad is it seems to rubberband for some reason. Like, I'll scroll down a little and lift my fingers, and it will rubberband up higher for some reason. If I scroll down a lot, it won't. Seems to affect subtle/short scrolls.
Initially it seems to lag as well. -
I mentioned a few pages back, the touchpad will be bad on ALL microsoft precision touchpad pcs. Surface, XPS, spectre360, etc. They all suck, thanks to MS.
Upgrade to insider build and you will fix the chrome issue but it's still not precise. I assume MS pressured OEMs heavily not to include 3rd party touchpad drivers in an effort to unify the OS more, making them all equally suck. -
I'm wondering about PM951 poor writing performance noticed by Lenovo and Microsoft users at their newest laptops. -
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-13-9350-InfinityEdge-Ultrabook-Review.153376.0.html
wish there were more touchscreen reviews around, but i'll probably end up purchasing an
i5/256gb/qhd sooner than later. -
This trackpad issue is putting me off the XPS (13 or 15) or any other MS trackpad laptops in general....i use Chrome all the time and dont want to swap, i also use the trackpad 99% of the time so it needs to be decent.
-
Definitely I'll buy 8gb memory and 128gb m.2 sata.
Pm951 is about half performance than Sm951 or Sm950 pro nvme's. -
I have no idea about the trackpad as mine arrives next week however Chrome is probably the worst browser to use on any laptop, it is slow, buggy and eats up resources as well as being a huge battery hog! On Desktops you can get away with it, even then it is very convenient however I am trying to move away. Also fed up of Google reading and having access to absolutely everything I do.
-
Mine has just arrived and the right hand edge and corner of the display is already faded white as if due to pressure, RMA?

How bright is the keyboard backlight? And does it have different levels of adjustment, or is it only on or off?

how's the trackpad perform with firefox? how smooth is the scrolling? any lag?
-
Has anyone found other trackpad drivers or workarounds to increase scrolling sensitivity or other multi-finger gestures like three finger tap for middle click?
-
Mine arrived on Tuesday, and I haven't heard the fan once.
The keyboard backlight IMHO is plenty bright, it has two levels- high, low and off, and I keep mine on low. -
About to recieve this laptop soon (early next week I hope).
I am looking for a USB-C to Displayport adapter/cable to use two external mopnitors until that Dell dock comes out in 2016.
I found this one at dx.com:
http://aud.dx.com/product/cwxuan-us...-female-hd-adapter-cable-white-19cm-961408940
Anyone think this will work to output to dual monitors? i.e. USB-C to displayport on monitor 1, then displayport output from monitor 1 to monitor 2. (displayport daisy chain)
That is two Dell U2515H monitors.
THanks.// -
is there any flex in the keyboard?

Is it just me thinking that the battery life, judging from this review, is a bit disappointing?
I mean the battery is up by 4 Wh compared to the 9343 and the 9350 is still falling 1 hour and 37 min behind in the WiFi surfing test (when using Internet Explorer).
-
Anyway, i read on youtube that the usb-c is capable of charging. The man who said that have only a 15w cable(from Google nexus..the icon appears but it doesn't seems to charge), and now he ordered the 60w from chromebook pixel. -
Being a student, battery life for me is a quite important factor for the XPS 13.
Actually Dell states on their own page that the XPS i capable of charging through USB-C and giving it's a Thunderbolt 3 it should be possible to charge at 100W... Hopefully.
Just have to be careful not charging the OnePlus 2 with a 100W USB-C charger.... -

abd_97: Pcie - in the review they have Samsung PM951.
The drive is compared here:
http://www.anandtech.com/show/9702/samsung-950-pro-ssd-review-256gb-512gb/2
I dont know if they can fix it by new drivers... I dont understand drives much. It seems the drive has two issues - low write speeds and high power consumption even in idle. Long time ago I had a discussion with some experienced IT guys that told me Samsung EVOs are not very good drives long time performance and durability-wise. However they didnt have anything against Samsung 850 PRO versions. Hopefully this one is not designed in the same way as EVOs.
If Samsung/MS/Dell dont fix the issue, can you replace the drive by regular M.2 2280 drive? Or does it have to be PCIe drive (which are twice as expenisive)?
I am suprised that Dell managed to keep the laptop so quiet even though the power consumption is a few watts higher. Even some users here confirm that this 9350 is very quiet machine.
@ALL: Guys if you talk about power consumption/battery life with 9350, fan noise etc please let us know what type of screen you have (FHD, QHD+) and also if you have 128 GB SSD (= M2 Sata 6Gb/s) or bigger (= PCIe) - it matters a lot and makes the discussion a bit easier. Hi,
I finally received mine two days ago (after waiting 20 days, grrr).
I Love it, Screen is great and its very quick (i7 and QHD) but i have noticed that the keyboard section is lifted slightly and the front in the centre of the track pad. Also i have been using a sleeve with a soft lining and have noticed already that the rubberised coating is wearing off the edges.
Have any of you guys noticed any of the above? -

All hardware are installed in the machine's firmware (BIOS). But interestingly, the hard drive is not installed. I know in Windows 10, the hard drive seems ok, but in the firmware level, it is not. Dell should fix this.Fink42 likes this. -
If I get a 256 GB SSD (which I believe comes with PCIE), can I replace it with a 512 GB SATA? Can the controller handle both protocols, or is it PCIE only?
thx -

Apparently Intel Speed shift isn't enabled yet in windows 10. Interesting to see if it provides any significant differences to user experience.
Should be able to increase cpu performance quicker, but also decrease it.
Might improve battery life just a bit? -
So. Just to reply to a few of the comments.
I bought the laptop with the 128 SATA and replaced it with the Samsung PCI-e 256 drive. Worked perfectly. The board supports both SATA and PCI-e. Both options are enabled in the bios. If it doesn't work check the bios and tell the computer to recognize both drive.
Did the Black Magic HD Speed test and get 950 Write and 1300 Read I believe.
Bought the Google 60w charger and it does indeed charge the laptop through the USB-c/Thunderbolt 3 port. Charged 25% in 25 minutes.
Loving the laptop so far. We'll see how it last with the things I did to it.Last edited: Nov 6, 2015 -

Does any know roughly when the one with 32 GB RAM comes out?

Hi
I was looking to buy this laptop (i7, 16 GB, 512 GB PCIe).
I was about to give my credit card, when I noticed (just in time) that no native 'standard' video ports are on the Notebook (DisplayPort or HDMI). Only USB Type C/Thunderbolt.
An Universal Docking Station (D1000) wich has a DisplayPort is on sale, but, I have my dobuts about reaching a good resolution/FPS on my Dell QHD+ U2515H using a simple USB 3.0 port.
Also, no USB Type C adapters of any kind are available here in my city.
After this, I began to understand really why the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Book still hasn't USB Type C or Thunderbolt ports, but a 'classic' Mini DP.
They're just not ready for popular use at this point. Even Dell hasn't their own base station compatible on sale yet; it's coming in 2016, with no exact date at this point.
Any of you using a D1000 Dock Station with a QHD+ display? How's the FPS? Can you reach the native resolution?
Cheers.Last edited: Nov 6, 2015 -
@ trackpad Spoken for the "old Broadwell XPS13 2015" and (maybe anyone trys with skylake XPS 13 to compare) Is there any way to fix that touchpad issue via hacked drivers or something? As my touchpad works absolutely precisious and super fine in UEFI/BIOS but in Windows it´s not that kind of perfect at all (it´s not bad but it´s .. i dont understand that DELL and MS won´t be able to find a solution for this and playing PingPong).
@ anyone who asked for Linux (native) so as this is still an normal Laptop you can install whatever you want. But please backup your Windows Key before (if you want to re-partition you SSD and deleted your recovery / or by accident...). On my device i had trouble when i´ve setup any kind of DualBoot (Win/Linux) and non working Audio if I re-started from any into "the other OS", so i decided to have Windows (due to better power consumption and no Hibernate issues) as base and put Linux in VM (....not what i really prefer but after 6 month´s and no fix ... ).
I hope that´s fixed at the new Skylake Versions.
Else, pretty happy with the XPS13 2015("old") and hope that you guys will be happier with the Skylakes
Regards

Thanks for your great post.
Would you please be able to run some SW that can determine the battery discharge rate? Like HWinfo64, Battery bar or similar with same systems in "idle" on both disks? I know it is not 5 minute work but this way we could determine if there is a huge difference in battery drain caused by different drives (SATA vs. PCIe). That would be very kind of you
I am currently thinking if it is better to order with 128 GB SATA and replace the drive myself for different or try my luck with Samsung 951 256GB PCIe. -
-
I don't mean to keep harping on, but do any of you guys have a bowed trackpad surround and rubberised coating coming off of the corners?
-
Thanks for your reply!
What's your monitor's resolution?
