XPS 13 doesn't have the 84Whr battery option, and your other comments seem to be about the XPS 15 too.

This is the XPS 13 thread, not the XPS 15. There's only one battery, and RAM is soldered on. :) I wish there were a 84Wh battery though, haha.

just bought my dell xps 13. it will be delivered 3 august. i was wondering if i'll have to install all the driver i can find in the dell website. My dell xps 13 has a Intel 8260 2x2 802.11ac 2,4/5 GHz... I have to install anyway the driver for the DW1820A 2x2 802.11ac 2,4/5 GHz?

Is Dell shipping XPS 13 with Intel 8260??

    Never heard of that.

My XPS 13, Skylake QHD came with Dell 1820A and I'm looking to buy the Intel, because I'm experiencing lot of problems with Dell wireless...

Only the developer edition. In my country has the intel 8260, it's less expensive and i need ubuntu and windows in dual boot.

With i5 Samsung 256 nvme I get 8-10 hours. I am very happy. It was the best choice, battery life was my primary concern. I7 has much lower battery life.

Hey, guys just wanted to touch base again to say that I did a repaste and put a thermal pad on the heatsink and my temps dropped dramatically. Idle was 50-54 degc before and now its 39 degc idle. Again thanks to Eason for such a great guide, info in this thread.

I don't know yet, but I don't like opening closed cases unless it is really necessary, especially if I have to return them if they don't work..

Btw, in the Thunderbolt Settings you can click on Details, there it tells you that external gpu's are not supported... Hope this isn't right

Ok guys, the acer graphics dock just arrived.

I plugged in, installed the Nvidia drivers... and it works flawlessly!

It seems that in usual Windows applications like browsing or office the system uses the HD520, i just installed heaven benchmark and i get 63.5.

    - so far no Problems either in CAD or Games (World of Warships)
    - hot swapping doesn´t really work
    - i used the internal Display of the XPS

This is on the xps 13, right? I can never be sure when people say "it doesn't work" about things like egpus (as they were) because in my experience people just don't try very hard or lack the problem solving skills needed to sort out complex pairings of hardware and software.

Btw can you tell me your firestrike score on internal/external, please?

    Hey there,

    it´s on the XPS 13 (i7, 16gb, HD520, Win10).

I didn´t hat much time yesterday, but it seems like it now runs very, very smooth; you don´t extra Software like the GPU switcher from Razer, it work´s right out of the box.

Also i have to tell you that i run a Insider preview atm with lots of modifications by my Company, i will do a complet clean Setup when the new Windows 10 Mayor-Update is released.

Hot swapping "works" means: in idle/light usage (browsing, Office) the System uses the internal HD520, the switching works very well, e.g. you end a game with the GTX960 and it changes back to the HD520 there is no stuttering or whatever, even when you just go back to the Desktop within a game.

Disconnecting and connecting the graphics dock while the Notebook is running also works quite well now.

The heaven Benchmarks when using the XPS13 Screen gives you round about 64 fps, using an external Display it goes up to 70.

Unfortunately i can give you other Benchmarks not before saturday :(

Thanks for the information! I am interested in the firestrike performance on internal vs external as on my XPS 15, my razer core performed very unsatisfactorily on the internal screen (9000 on the external monitor became 3000 on the internal). As one of the most important advantages the acer GPU dock has is that it's very mobile, it's not likely that many people would use it on an external monitor.

Has anyone had any issues with Windows Update giving errors after a clean install? I just ran a clean install to rid my new machine of bloatware, and hopefully reduce coil whine.

When I ran Windows Update, I got the following errors ( http://imgur.com/a/tv69x). Do these drivers really matter? I'm most interested in things that would potentially reduce coil whine because the one on my machine is driving me nuts. If so, shoud I download these manually/separately? I absolutely love the computer overall, except for the coil whine whenever I scroll/move things on the screen. Disabling C-states and fiddling around with battery settings haven't done much for me :(

Thanks in advance for your help!!

    Edit: clarification and spelling

Oops totally forgot about that. I matched up all of the errors with the Dell website and downloaded all of the missing drivers. Thanks!!!

As for the coil whine... it's still the same and equally as irritating. Apart from disabling C-state, setting a custom AC charging threshold, and fiddling around with the battery settings, has anyone found anything else that worked? I tried all of these and no luck. I would hate to send this computer back over such a minor issue.

Hi to everybody, I'm the happy owner of an xps 13"-9350 (i7, 8GB, 256GB, mate full-hd display). I need a little help from you. I noticed in my device a strange behavior of the 2 usb 3.0 port. In both of them there are 2 128GB Lexar Jumpdrive s45 as an external extra storage. During the day I noticed that they disconnect and reconnect a lot of time. Can you give me an advise?
The second problem is related to the track-pad. Sometimes it doesn't follow my gesture and it looks like has it was freezed.
Thanks to everybody that will help me.

    It was the internal Display!

I tried charging it via the Dock, the Acer Power supply isn't strong enough to power both the gpu and the xps at the same time - yes we need the dell Charger ;)

I clean installed Windows10 a half dozen times and had this problem every time with a Lexar USB3 thumb drive on a 9550.

First off the left USB port seems to behave better than the left one does.

    - I solved the problem by clicking the "AutoPlay" pop up and selecting something like "open folder to view files (file explorer)". The trick is to do it superquickly. It took me like 20 tries to get it right.

    - An alternative I haven't tried might be to select: control panel -> hardware and sound -> autoplay
Then under removable drives select "open folder to view files (file explorer)"

Fans are running constantly, but not annoying - i think this might me a question of firmware/driver because my GTX 970 doesn´t show this behaviour.

The 'new' version seems to have a wrong date and isn't new. Installing it tells me that version is already installed. It is also very unlikely that Intel releases two such firmwares in such a short time.

Did you try any cheap USB-C to HDMI adapters? I tried two and none of them works.
    http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/DjIAAOSwf05XOstV/s-l1600.jpg
    http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/sW8AAOSwH71XPZeT/s-l1600.jpg

On top of that another two USB-C adapters got lost on its way to my address after a month of waiting so I am getting a bit tired of this USB-C port :)
Do you use any of those +-10 USD adapters or did you get some branded ones? Any problems using it?

I am wondering if the port on my XPS is working properly. May it be a driver issue?

Has anyone used the Dell Thunderbolt Dock (TB15) with XPS 9350? Does it works properly or it blinks the external screens? Do you have to connect also the charger to the laptop or it takes electricity from the dock through the thunderbolt connection?

You dont have to connect charger, in fact it is docking station. Dont know about blinking screens but WD15 was fine according to one review I have read.

I was using the hide update tool from MS; https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930 - Its great and works as it should - scanning available updates which you can hide.

But; I can hide updates that seems very nice, like lots of Intel drivers and other nice to haves. The thing is I can hide them, IE - stop them from being fetched in the main update tool - but the main update tool shows no updates are available, I'm fully updated it seems :|

And it annoys me. [IMG] I'd like those updates!

    Any input?
