Very similar, comparing them side by side right now. The Mac seems to diffuse light / reflections a tad better than the XPS. But that's when looking at a totally dark screen. For general use I'd say they are comparable.

Mine is 18.8 seconds. Even yours at 9.8 seconds is a joke. The BIOS start-up time should be in the 1-1.5 second range. It proves that Dell are clueless about implementing a BIOS/UEFI firmware on a flagship product. But that makes sense because I was just reading the other day (on the Dell.com forums) how their own software engineers use pre-production models for software testing. I'm sick of Dell. This lemon is going back. I'm not waiting another 10 days for another turd. I'm ordering a Skylake HP Envy now and it will turn up on Saturday morning.
Sorry I cannot be more positive. But I had constant faults with my 9333. And this 9350 is a lemon.

Also freezing on the Dell logo when rebooting here. Maybe 6 times over 2 days including setting up fresh out of the box.

I suspected the drivers and let windows "update driver" find me later versions of the video and wifi drivers after both giving problems. (This is a signature version - QHD/i5/256gb/8gb.)

    I'll see how it goes.

Already had to return a FHD version because it was so dim that I couldn't read the screen. I wonder if the Malaysian-built machines (as delivered to Australia) have some different components.

I had a Envy 13 for one week and had to return it, because my FHD Panel was not very bright and had a yellowish tint. The fan is always hearable because of the "fan always on" function, which you can disable in the BIOS however. Most disappointing was the battery life time which was around 5-6h at best. Be also aware of backlight bleeding. It was barely noticeable with my FHD-Panel but it is definitely an issue with the QHD-version! As far as I can remember I was able to hear very silent coil whining too.

Do any of you guys think that the lower brightness of the FHD model compared to the 9343 (early 2015) is something that Dell will address in any future updates?
I mean the panel is the exact same type but scores a brightness 32% lower than the 9343 (277 vs. 367 http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-13-9350-InfinityEdge-Ultrabook-Review.153376.0.html).

The XPS 13 is scheduled to start selling in my country beginning of next week and I'm still a lot in doubt if I should go with the FHD or the QHD model.. Screen brightness and battery life are probably my two main concerns

I think with this adaptive brightness feature all the measurements with higher results were simply bogus

So you say that the brightness is actually the same and the measurement different is due to adaptive brightness being "fixed"?

The results depends on the content displayed. I assume the max. brightness is about 275 cd/m² and not 400, which is neither a disaster nor is it outstanding. Problem is you can't really force the book running on this max. brightness level all the time.

Like I said, contrary to what notebookcheck said, my 9350 FHD has the exact same brightness as my previous 9343. It's really really bright on light scenes (Office, White web pages etc.) It only makes sense cause Dell used the same Sharp panel on the 9350. And like the 9343, the 9350 STILL has CABC, which contradicts to what the sales rep from Dell told me before I made the purchase online. I can only give you my word and its up to you whether you will trust me or you will rely on notebookcheck's "scientific test". All I know is there's no reason for me to deceive you cause I'm not an employee of Dell. The 277nits score from them might be a result of CABC just so you know. And yes, the QHD has CABC too as I first got a QHD from Microsoft Store, but I returned it after seeing how reflective the touch display is.

We believe you 100%. There is only one thing to add : it will be possible to disable CABC soon but only on the QHD version by running a little tool DELL will provide.
I have one question : does CABC bother you ? If not, why aren't you bothered by it ?

    Thank you very much !

Actually my (perceived) brightness seems to have increased since I first got it. Not sure if it was BIOS or WIndows 10 update or just if my eyes are adjusting to it, but in any case the sweet spot for me in the evening in mellow lighting is as low as 6%, and at idle that's just under 4W power consumption overall so not too bad. I can still work at about 25% under office lighting.

The matte screen really helps too, as I don't find myself needing to crank it up as often to beat reflections & glare like on a glossy screen.

    I don't even notice CABC.

Also, I don't see why someone is making a big deal about the BIOS post time. I rarely even turn my laptop off these days...

My 9350 in the cabc test (dell logo) does not behave badly, the logo appear after half a second...
but the QHD version will have a small tool to deactivate CABC...so for me i consider this issue fixed for the qhd version

I have the FHD model and I definitely notice the CABC at low brightness levels.

This is so close to being my ideal ultraportable but software problems really mire the experience: always on CABC, NVMe SSD power drain, touchpad issues and Intel driver crashes.

I'm on the fence about returning mine but there isn't a good alternative that's small, light, long battery life, good build quality, good keyboard/touchpad, matte screen and has thunderbolt 3.

Remember this also applies to resume from S4/hibernate, that's when I really notice how long it takes compared with other laptops, multiple times a day if I'm on the move. I'd also set the hibernate timer shorter if it booted more quickly to save a bit more battery.

But it's a minor annoyance in the larger scheme of things ;)

    Thanks.*

And also, how do you clean the touchpad and around?

Wow, what a great thread. Great info for someone researching the XPS 13.

I'm looking at the QHD+, but trying to decide if I need the i7 and/or 16GB versus the i5 . The tradeoff is compute power versus battery life and $. My most intensive uses are photo processing (using Adobe Lightroom) and running virtual machines. Advise is welcome.

My main reason for this post is to find out how much bloatware I'll get if I purchase from Dell or Amazon (versus the microsoft store). Would someone mind running "product get name, vendor, description" in cmd and posting the results.

Just made an account so I could share my display measurements with you guys. I had posted it on Reddit before and hoped that someone would pick it up over here but the thread got lost there. These are my personal measurements of the XPS13 9350 FHD display. I'll just quote it here again:

So as you can see the display of the FHD XPS 13 9350 is the same as the 9343's with good brightness, contrast and sRGB coverage. If you have any other questions regarding the display, let me know and I'll see what I can do for you.

Thanks for the info. This line puzzled me from the notebookcheck review: "By our measurements, the panel achieves 66% sRGB coverage, which isn’t quite up to the claims of Dell’s specifications (72%)."

That hasn't seemed right to me in daily use, and I guess your results confirm that something was off with either their measurements or their review model. I'm not sure what they mean by 72% sRGB by "Dell's specifications" though ....

Dell states "400-nits, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 72% color gamut." in their datasheet. It doesn't state in which colorspace so my guess is that they mean AdobeRGB and not sRGB.

I just got the 9350. I am in high hopes that I can run my sound card for professional mobile recording thru the tunderbolt 3 port on this laptop. Current I have a Universal Apollo 16 with a fw800 or a tb 2 output I can use. I read tb3 will be backwards compatablewith tb1 and 2. So I need a adapter/hub for tb3 cable to a fw800 or a tb2/tb1

If any dev are reading this, please consider making this considering there are pc users that want to use there products for pro audio. Im kind of sick of people forcing a mac to do pro audio.

Everyone will be wanting to follow this issue that's currently blowing up on Reddit:

Dell ships laptops with rogue root CA, exactly like what happened with Lenovo and Superfish
    https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/3twmfv/dell_ships_laptops_with_rogue_root_ca_exactly/

    See also: http://arstechnica.com/security/201...ships-pcs-with-self-signed-root-certificates/

Check out your certmgr.msc > Trusted Root Cert Authorities > Certificates > eDellRoot. I also have the similarly problematic DSDTestProvider on my XPS 13 (presumably installed by Dell System Detect).

Here also is an online tool for checking the vulnerability: https://edell.tlsfun.de

Deleting or disabling the bad certs passes this tool's check. Hopefully this will be resolved by Dell soon with full disclosure.

I don't have this issue. But that's only because I turned off SecureBoot, nuked the SSD (formatted it and therefore removed all partitions) and did a clean Windows 10 install. Earlier this year, my sister bought a Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13. It did have superfish. I removed the certificate and ran the Lenovo uninstall .exe. Even then I had to go into Services.msc and then disable visualsearch.

I really like Windows 10. And I really like the XPS 13 hardware, especially the screen, processor and form factor/materials. But I believe that Dell India have screwed up the UEFI/BIOS and loaded it with bloatware. All these Dell Command utilities are superfluous.
