Try enabling the "enhance pointer" somewhere in the mouse settings. It's a checkbox under the speed of the pointer.

The Wireless-AC 17265 is significantly wider than a standard m.2 card. Any standard-width card would likely fit. You'd have to cut a hole through the external wall of the laptop, the internal side there is just enough room if you relocate the cable that is there (easy). There is no emi shield on the Wi-Fi card (look at the top left-hand corner in pictures of the system).

Turn off every permission you can find under settings. You'll have to cycle through each subject, but it takes back most of the control a default install gives M$. It's amazing what they collect/allow under the default setup.

Done, thanks Boisonly. I agree with the amount allowed to be collected by default setup is far too much - it should be the other way around where privacy restrictions are in place until allowed by the user IMHO. I guess this is how companies squeeze a little bit more £'s or $'s out of their customers by giving access to everything they can profit from.

Edge is also an issue, it automatically downloads by default when clicking on a download link without giving you the opportunity to save in a location or any other confirmation dialogue box first - yikes!

I game and play diablo 3 and blade and soul.
Do any gamers find that the dell xps 15 9550 gets warm? especially on the left side under my left palm area and some of the keys on the left side of the keyboard.

Is there anyway to combat this?

So, I got the 240W Thunderbolt dock today (hooray for free next day shipping!). I also used the two coupon codes listed on page 97 or 98 of this thread. I guess I got in while the getting was good as the link says the dock is currently sold out. The dock is so new that searching for it on Dell's website (use keyword 450-AEVM) does not return the desired result.

Upon opening it, there is a warning message in the box saying that the laptop's BIOS and Thunderbolt drivers need to be up to date. Connecting it is as simple as a single Thunderbolt cable and the dock serves as the power pass-through for the laptop as well as up to three monitors. Seems to be working well so far.

On a lighter note, the power brick for this thing is comically large. Like literally the largest power brick I have ever seen for a home electronic device. It is an 8"x4"x1" rectangle. Compare that with the actual dock itself, which is 5.75"x5.75"x2.25". :chatterbox: :eek2:

You mean that big square ugly box does NOT include the real power supply? And needs an additional power supply like the notebook one?

Not having TB2 ports is already a big fail, but this would mean two big fails already, at least in my book.

O&O Shut Up 10 will basically take care of most privacy settings in one fell swoop. If you have the enterprise version of Windows 10 or the Education version, you can disable telemetry through group policies too.

Haha, these docks are also meant to handle the beefy Precision 7710 which requires that 240 W power supply if you are running the top of the line configurations. It's basically the standard 17" precision adapter. It happens to be fully compatible with the XPS 15 without the dock provided you have the tip adapter so you can even consider it as a backup power supply.

They have been taken off the website - no wonder - they don't work with current drivers but some people have them working with workarounds (like USB drivers from ASUS). Count your blessings - I sent mine back. Perhaps when they re-release it will be a functional dock.

Ah man! Hoping Dell has some discounts coming up with this new XPS 15. I really am in the market for it and hoping to get a good deal at either dell.com or the outlet store... Looks like the 960m does quite well handling some pretty decent games!

So I've had my XPS for a few days now, set everything up and haven't had any problems. I checked the BIOS and it's not the latest BIOS availible. Should I bother upgrading? This is the second laptop I've ever owned and have been building desktops for years and I've always lived by the idea that unless there's a problem you can't fix, don't bother risking to update the BIOS. Should I upgrade it?

And now the other shoe drops. Looks like I am having much the same problems as others with the Thunderbolt dock. After updating all the chipset (Thunderbolt) and network (Realtek USB GBe) drivers, the dock supports the USB slots and the Display Port video pass-through, but the network connection is flaky. Keeps dropping the connection every 30 seconds or so. Talking to the Dell support lady, she confirmed that she's fielded other calls re: this dock with the same issue. She kicked me up to the next level support tier to get a follow-up. I guess we'll see what happens. I have to send my laptop back anyway for them to deal with the hard drive error I noted in a previous post, so I won't be able to take any action on whatever other suggestions they have till I get the laptop back (5 business days?).

So, two new Dell products in two weeks and both have significant issues. :mad2:

I hate that I have to check two threads for XPS15 news. Can't the mods shutdown the other pre-release thread? Need to encourage owners to post here instead!

As I stated over there - hope this firmware resolves the fanspeed issue when using TB3 port. Any patch notes or has anyone installed and can communicate any results?

Well, after few weeks I started to get sudden hangs on the system (all freezes, you can only move the cursor)
Taking a look into Windows Error Logs the issue seems to be with ... : C:\WINDOWS\system32\igfxHK.exe = Intel Graphic.
I set up to use NVIDIA in Firefox (and this is when system randomly hangs)

I tried to update drivers from Intel website https://downloadcenter.intel.com/pr...-530-for-6th-Generation-Intel-Core-Processors and it says none is compatible... WTF?

Anyone having this issue? I remember it was NVIDIA driver that caused display crashes, not the Intel's one?

PIck the HD560? drivers x64 in zip format, unzip to a folder then go into the device manager and manually update the driver that way, it works and after that will allow exe based updates :)

I'm having an issue where I put the 9550 to sleep mode, and occasionally when I turn it back on it has not maintained the sleep state, it had just turned off at some point. Any ideas on what might be going on? It doesn't always happen, so it's hard to diagnose.

Sleep mode, not hibernate, I also have that turned off. It's so unpredictable, sometimes I press the power button and it comes right on in a few seconds. Other times it shows a Dell logo and then comes on restored from sleep. Other times it shows the same Dell logo, and I see that it had actually shut down at some point and my session had ended abruptly.

Intel isn't nVidia, they don't market their IGPs for gaming, so don't expect frequent driver updates like you have for nVidia. Heck even AMD is slow sometimes. Nothing since october isn't surprising at all.

They aren't likely to release a new driver outside of the update every few months unless something is very broken.

To me this sounds like hibernation. The system automatically enters hibernation from sleep after a settime. But, this time is differnent for each power plan. If you don't like it I suggest turning it off in all power plans.

I got my XPS 15 9550 a few days ago and so far it's worked well (the keyboard is a little shallow, but I might be able to get used to it), but I've seen one potential hardware problem so far. There is light bleeding from the keyboard through the vents on the back of the chassis and through onto the hinge. It's not a huge deal, but it is annoying considering I just got it.

    Here's a link to a picture I took of it: http://imgur.com/gallery/hOn6q0M/new

Does anyone else have this problem?

Hi everyone, I'm home from university for the weekend and feel like doing a clean install of windows to try and fix a few small issues and potentially to change to AHCI mode and use the samsung NVME driver. If I go ahead with the clean install what is the current recommendation regarding AHCI vs RAID in terms of performance and stability? Are people still having issues in AHCI? Also I know the intel RST drivers need to be present for installing in RAID, so if I go ahead in that mode can I put the file directly next to the windows files on the USB stick, or does it have to be in a folder named 'drivers' as I've seen mentioned. Can I use the .exe installer or will it have to be the extracted files?
    Thank you in advance!

Create a separate folder on the same usb is the better choice. You have to extract the .exe file
