I don't have that keyboard backlight bleed.

I have different system config but my BIOS settings goes back to default every time I do BIOS/factory default restore.
Why do you think they don't get restored to default? -
Same here.

I'm a new owner of the XPS 15 9550 with UHD display and I have a question about display calibration. I do a lot of photography and color accuracy is important to me, so I calibrated the display with my Colormunki Photo hardware calibrator. It generated a profile which I set as default in the Color Management settings of Windows 10, and when I tested it the profile is very nice. However, all is not well sadly! At what seems to be random times there is a sudden change from what is a "neutral white" background that I get with my custom profile, to a colour that has a distinct red hue to it. Kind of like what would happen if in Photoshop you added +10 magenta or so to a white balance. If I go into Color Management and select "reload current calibrations" then my display becomes the nice "neutral" colour that indicates my profile is again active.
I'm wondering - because this laptop has both Intel graphics as well as the nVidia GTX260 part, would there be an issue when (say) the laptop switched to use the nVidia graphics from the Intel ones? ie could that result in my custom profile being "unloaded" and the default one used?
I'm at a bit of a loss as to why sometimes I can use the machine for an hour or more without the display switching to the red-tinted profile mode, whereas other times it happens literally seconds after booting up.
Any help or suggestions would be great - many thanks!

What about the keyboard backlight guys? Does the backlight still goes off even while using your trackpad if no key is pressed?
-
Try disabling the Dell premiercolour program at startup and also exit it if it's currently running. That stopped a similar thing for me.
-
Yes and fortunately for me, I like it that way

They keyboard screw holes are covered by a mylar sheet, it would seem both of yours have this missing, it is typical of halfwit engineers to rip it off during a keyboard swap and not notice it is meant to be carefully removed and replaced as new keyboards do not ship with it.
If you have outlet laptops it will explain it but either way it needs replacing by dell. If it is a new laptop then scream for a new replacement as this requires a full stripdown of the laptop, not something you want done to something this expensive. -
Despite the improvements in drivers and firmware, my XPS (4k with nvidia) still forgets to send an actual signal to my external HDMI monitor after a screen timeout and/or standby mode.
This happens most of the time. The laptop thinks that the screen is connected/on but there is no signal. Manually turning the monitor on manually confirms that. The only solution is to unplug and replug the HDMI cable to the computer. Annoying and unnecessary wear and tear to the HDMI port.
My old XPS didn't have this problem. Anybody else with this problem. Any ideas? -
have you tried the latest intel drivers for the video instead of the dell ones?

Does anyone have the USB-c to Ethernet adapter?
When I have mine plugged in, the fans will start after about 2-5 minutes and wont turn off unless I unplug the adapter. -
I have 2 KY-688 USB-c ethernet / USB3.0x3 hubs (home and office) and a Dell DA-200 (on the road). Never had problems with the fans kicking in.secondvision likes this.

Have you installed the new Thunderbolt firmware, there's an updated one available dated 4th Feb? Might help

Ah, I have the Anker one. Thanks for your feedback.
I did not do that update yet! Thanks, I'm going to update now.
edit: I'm now on 1.1.19 and the fans are still kicking in after 2-5 minutes.
Unplugging the adapter will almost instantly shutdown the fans.
edit: For anyone with this problem, there's a topic on the dell forums about it: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/t/19664735Last edited: Feb 8, 2016 -
updated to 1.1.19 bios, feels a faster boot.
-
1.1.19 is the BIOS version, there is a new Thunderbolt firmware version Version 2.11.06, A02 in the Chipset section on Dell support - its worth a try IMHO
-
Oh ok.
I'm going to try that in the weekend. Thanks!Woodking likes this. -
Hey everyone. Brand new owner here. Just picked up the 9550 with 4k, 16bg ram, 512 ssd from the Microsoft Store (love how clean they come from Microsoft). So far I absolutely love this machine. I went to the dell site and installed the following updates from their downloads list:
Bios 1.1.19
Thunderbolt Firmware
Thunderbolt Control Driver
RealTek Audio Driver
Intel HD graphics Driver
WiFi Driver
Everything seems to be in perfect working order and I have encountered 0 issues thus far with light use including some gaming. Anything else you guys think is critical I install/update? I did update the 960 drivers through Nvidia, so that is up to date as well. Love this laptop. It feels so quality. -
Hi there,
I'm considering purchasing from Microsoft as well. Does it have any Dell software at all?
Sent from my Nexus 6P using TapatalkLast edited: Feb 8, 2016 -
The version from the MS store has the Premier color software on it and maybe one or two other utility, but that should be about it. I still did a clean install on mine, but that is really because I wanted Windows 10 Education on it rather than Home as it has the same features as Enterprise (you can disable telemetry through gpedit).
-
I have some usb-c 3.1 ethernet/usb3.0 hub combo's and the dell da-200.
The fan does not kick in, but so far I use these usb-c extensions only for ethernet.
Could it be that when the fan kicks in the nVidia 960m is used? You can check it with a program like Hwinfo64. If so, then consider this as a feature by design. The 960m consumes more power and generates more heat than the intel hd530 graphics. It causes the fans to start, especially if the battery gets charged. -
I am on the Dell drivers and everything is working as intended with a second 1920x1080 monitor on my end. If I get the computer out of sleep, it displays properly.
-
I'm having some issues with audio jack detection not working sometimes. Has anyone had this issue? I'm thinking it might be a driver issue- I've had some issues installing them. Is there a "generic" Realtek driver I can install? How can I install it cleanly?
-
I think that my drivers are up to date, I will double check the Intel drivers as soon as I come back from a trip. -
I've had this same problem, along with a number of other people - we've been posting about it on the Dell support forum, but haven't received a response. It's super annoying, can't switch between speakers and headphones without restarting the computer. I tried so many things to fix this, including installing the latest driver from the Realtek site. No luck. I think it might need a BIOS fix.
-
Unfortunately, same here.
-
What sort of speeds are you seeing for local LAN file transfers? I usually get about 40 megabytes per second (less than half of wired gigabit speeds), but would love to tweak that higher if possible. The 1830 card in my XPS 15 9550 doesn't seem any better than the stock card that was in my Precision M4800, but I've yet to try experimenting with other drivers.
-
No, I'm only using Edge and the laptop is only using the Intel HD graphics. I checked the temperatures and they're all < 30 degrees Celsius. The temperatures do not change when I have the adapter plugged in or unplugged.
I have updated all my drivers via the Dell site and latest BIOS with default settings. Fans will still kick in
.
-
What program do you use to read temperatures? I use Intel ETU, and on idle my cores are 35/39/33/35, and my package temperature around 42 celcius.
Have you made any changes to the system, since you are getting temperatures < 30 celcius?Last edited: Feb 9, 2016 -

Maybe que has AC or live on a cold country. I live in Brazil and at idle it runs at 40 -
Hi, can please anyone confirm that 4K version has the ambient light sensor so that laptop can adjust screen brightness depending on the light conditions? It seems that 1080p version definitely doesn't have it, but I can't find a proof that ALS is included with 4K version.
-
Have anybody bought this new Thunderbolt TB15 Dockstation and could check if f.lux is working on external display through thunderbolt cable?
-
Does f.lux have anything to do with hardware? I thought it just changed display colour temperature based on time of day?
-
It appears that the sleep issue I was having was related to using multiple desktops. I had tried programs in the past that provided multiple desktop functionality but always had problems. I suspected this feature in Windows 10 might be causing my problem, so I stopped using this feature and haven't had the sleep issue since
-
Quick question. Just got my XPS and I am creating the USB Recovery. I am planning to do a fresh install with Windows 10 Enterprise. Can I still recover using the USB Recovery if I deleted the recovery partition?
-
I have a new problem. Plugging in AC power while the machine is on causes it to completely lock up. I'm still on BIOS 1.15, not 1.19, so I'm going to try updating it tonight.
I briefly had non-Dell Realtek drivers, and it didn't have this issue, but it would sometimes complain about something something BIOS when switching. It still worked, but if you hit the wrong button it would reboot the machine. Maybe I should try going back to them? I'm just not sure how to remove the Dell drivers and cleanly install them. -
For those of you experience the "sleep/hibernate just reboots the system" issue... have you updated to the latest 1.1.19 BIOS?
I was having that issue, where going to sleep or hibernate would just turn off the computer for 2-4 seconds before it rebooted back into Windows. Updating to the 1.1.19 BIOS "seems" to have fixed this issue for me. -
GPU-z to measure the GTX 960.
HWMonitor ( http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html) for the rest. (HWMonitor does not see the GTX 960 for some reason).
Note that it is quite cold currently where I live (currently 4 degrees Celsius).
Only changes that I made are updates (currently on 1.1.19 bios and latest Dell drivers) -
After doing a bios update, I am not sure whether it was the latest or the one before it, I have started to see a few weird graphical issues.
The first is where a pattern is shown on the screen. The pattern has elements of the image that should be shown on the screen but it is completely scrambled. The other issue is that the image sometimes wraps around, I see the top ~5 pixels on the bottom of the screen, below the start menu.
Has anybody else seen this issue? I have contacted Dell, but no answer yet.Attached Files:

Received my brand new replacement, and wow, the build quality is finally there. The bottom piece is properly aligned with pal rest and mouse pad is working well, doesn't get stuck as previously reported. Just waiting for the laptop to adjust to room temperature before I will power it on.

I believe you can now download a recovery cd iso from the dell support site listed under drivers
-
Marcelosiciliano Notebook Consultant
I tried, but dell detect just don't work, so it wont let me download the iso -
Have you tried the latest Nvidia drivers? While not impossible it is unlikely that the screen problems isn't related to the BIOS update, the graphics card BIOS tend to be upgraded very conservatively to avoid booting problems etc.
-
I don't see anyplace on my Dell Support site that offers a recovery CD. Can anyone provide a direct link?
-
I have updated to the latest drivers but when I use the Device Manager I cannot see any Thunderbolt information!
I also have a "Legacy Device" in System Devices.
Information about that device:
Type: System Device
Location: Intel 100/C20 Chipset Family LPC Controller
Version: 10.0.10586.0 -
Here is the link where you can request a free USB recovery. I did that and Dell mailed it to me free of charge

None have it, rather crappy considering my 9530 had it.
