apart from the top 10mm where the mount is the entire trackpad should be physically clickable,
-
It's also clickable where the mount is. I connected the laptop with my tv and than its using my intel card, how can I switch to the nvidia while connected to via HDMI? Besides I have another dead pixel now on the top of the screen. It's so annoying...
-
Mine is if you press really hard, either way Dell will say it is a fully clickable trackpad, maybe they have a new revision?
Have you rang up to reject the laptop yet? -
They told me I can change the Laptop to get the same again or I can get my money back, what would you recomend. Should I go for the 4k laptop and try to convince them?
-
Well I pushed my luck by telling them I couldn't transfer my windows 10 pro upgrade licence again and wanted the BNX model instead, I told them the spec of the highest model and they put the order through so I would up with the 32gb ram, 1tb SSD 4k from a 16gb ram 512gb SSD 4k.
Good luck. -
Hey, guys. I just got my laptop on Tuesday, but I have a problem. Whenever I go to restart or turn off the computer turning it back on takes ages. I am talking 10 minutes or more. It just sits at the Dell logo page for all that time. Does anyone know what is going on?
-
They want to give me a 3 years on - site support and I can switch the SSD alone. They have send me this link.
http://www.dell.com/support/manuals...BDDD5A-66DA-491A-A58F-1445E314900B&lang=en-us
Is it a good offer or should I try to get 32 gb ram additional.
If I switch the ssd, will the new Laptop be like the one I got currently, with all the drivers working?
How did you test your ssd speed?
Is this score normal?

Wow that SSD scores wrong. Your Toshiba NVMe drive should bench the same as mine.
AS-SSD is faulty and shouldn't be used, use crystal disk mark https://osdn.jp/projects/crystaldiskmark/downloads/65730/CrystalDiskMark5_1_2.zip/
My test was done while surfing so the results are out a bit.
3 years onsite is a fair offer, see if you can push it to more ram or a bigger SSD, no harm trying!
Oh that guides wrong, you want to swap the SSD not 2.5" drive you won't have.
This is my laptop back when I had a 950 pro in, left hand side above the battery, it has 950 PRO SSD wrote upside down, one screw to swap it.

Ok, so it is not possible to switch the ssd? I´ll do the test and will lett you know.
Can you tell me how you made the nvidia usable while gaming on your tv via hdmi wothout swithcing to the intel card?
thanks a lot -
I edited my post above after you replied so check again for the SSD location!
And I don't use HDMI, someone else will have to answer.
But, it always outputs via the intel card, if the Nvidia is used it does the rendering and passes the results to the intel GPU, you go in the Nvidia control panel and tell it to use Intel or Nvidia depending on what application you are using. -
Looks good, or not?

Where can I find this?
You know everything, remarkable. Are you an engineer, just curious. ^^
Tank you very much.
It´s this?

Yes that's what GoNz0 is referring to. Set your application to run on the nVidia GPU from there. -
Yes it looks good.
Nice to see Dell are swapping over to the Toshiba drives as they all run at 2400/1500 mb/s compared to the Samsung cards.
People with Samsung drives will be pissed off though.
Yes that is it, if you don't see your program then add it using the add button. -
Do you have anything connected to USB ports? Try disconnecting them and then adding them after the laptop boots into Windows.
-
I had this measurements. Obviously I have a Samsung. Is my disk working wrong? Or this readings are normal for my Samsung 512 GB.
On the other hand, how is it that you got this new Toshiba. Could I ask Dell to change this disk? -
Dell wont swap drives because you saw someone with a faster drive, unless you can fake a fault to get them to swap it, then tell them you would rather do it yourself instead of a tech.
-
I got a new XPS 9550 yesterday, and I feel like the screen is somewhat bluish (blue tint), especially the left half (which I think is quite noticeable). Could this possibly be a hardware issue ? Note that after receiving the laptop yesterday, I did a clean install of Windows 10 and installed all the latest drivers today. I did NOT install the Dell Premier Color application.
-
The half screen issue does seem hardware related, maybe be a backlight issue, although these are rare across LCD panels in general
4k or FHD?
Suggestions: Use BIOS monitor diagnostics to help determine hardware vs software.
Install the latest Intel Graphics Drivers ( https://downloadcenter.intel.com/pr...-i7-6700HQ-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3-50-GHz-).
The Intel HD Graphics Control Panel also has a color settings page you can attempt a fix with.
And last resort reinstall Dell Color Premier to see if there is any resolution in a different mode than the default "vibrant".
If all fails, definitely return before the window closes. My 4k has an awesome picture with great color accuracy, so its possible to achieve at least
-
It's definitely a hardware thing because I did that diagnostic thing where you test the colors before boot (press D while turning on the laptop), and I saw the tint there too. Luckily I bought Premier Support when I bought the laptop, and I just talked to their Premier Support staff. He told me that through OnSite servicing option, I can have a technician come at my house in the next 2-3 days and replace the LCD panel free of charge. So now I'm trying to decide if I should avail this option or just return the whole laptop and buy it again. :/
-
Here's a picture of my laptop's screen with the room lights off (a pure white desktop background). Granted the photo was taken with an iPhone 6s, you can see the tint, right ?
-
Good to hear you were able to confirm it was hardware
I'd strongly echo the advice of others in the past that its better to return if possible then allow for repair. Warranty's nice to have, but why risk a tech performing a subpar repair or causing further damage if you don't have to. You paid for a working unit and deserve one, plus they should set up an advanced exchange so you can keep this one until you get the replacement
Yeah, definitely looks like a backlight issue to me, with right half dimmer than left. Exchange itLast edited: May 13, 2016 -
Man, this would be the second XPS that I would have had to return :/ .... But yeah a exchange over a repair makes sense. How do I go about setting up an advanced exchange. That would definitely speed up the process. Does Dell do that ?
-
They definitely do this but not positive the best way as I did mine through Microsoft (3 exchanges FYI). Even though you have Premier Support I'd start with Order Support. Call and tell them you will not accept a repair and want a new unit ordered. If you go through Tech Support you'll end up with a unit swap under warranty, and then you'll "lose" some of your warranty time (should start upon receiving working unit)
If they throw up too many hurdles and you can swing it, consider ordering a new one and requesting a return within the window. Wait until the new one arrives before shipping back old one. That's what I did, but this wont work if you're in a region where builds take 3-4 weeks, so press on for the first option -
Well I'm in the US so region-wise there isn't a problem that I wait for a new unit before shipping back an old one. The only problem is that I'm a student and don't have a lot of buffer cash lying around to keep ordering new units while waiting for refunds from the previous ones. Dell's return policy also states that it can take them upto 30 days to issue refunds :/ .. This is why an advanced exchange seemed like a good option because I won't be charged again .. Although, I fear that getting a new exchange unit might affect my premium warranty, so placing a new order and starting from scratch might make more sense .. Not sure what to do :/
-
Understandable. Definitely do the advanced exchange. Go through order support and do not accept any other option. If they hesitate, ask for a manager. They should do it, will probably need a credit card on file to ensure you'll return the old one, but not require any actually money to be held
-
As has been said, tell Dell you do not think it appropriate for a brand new laptop to be repaired and you request a replacement shipped. They arrange collection after the expected delivery date, just push it back a week after that to account for any delays, end of the day you can tell the collection driver it isn't ready yet and they will pass it back to Dell.
-
Can someone help me before I make the order at Dell. If I switch the SSD card, will I have all my data in the new device and will it run normally? No driver problems? And what will happen with my windows license? Is it connected with the motherboard or only on my hard drive?
-
Yes you will not notice any difference at all.
If you use Bitlocker suspend it before the swap, Bitlocker is not something on by default so it will not be on unless you specifically locked the drive, all this does is avoid needing to enter a recovery key. In other words, if you have no idea what this italic bit is about then just ignore it. -
Nice, thank you very much. So I can work with my actual Laptop and when I get the new one it will be like the same device with even newer hardware, hehe good. So I'll download Mathcad today and start studying for my drive engineering course.
GoNz0 likes this. -
Dell told me that Windows is activated via the motherboard so it is not possible to switch the SSD and keep the data, since there is another Windows on it?
-
It reads the OEM key and activates itself again. If for some reason it doesn't you can pull the new key from the bios and add it manually.
-
Cool, so I am not allowed to start the new laptop before I switched the SSD correct? So everything should work perfectly, if it doesn´t I will ask again. Thank you buddy.
-
MS store swapped my XPS for a new one and I just did a full SSD image restore on the new XPS after I setup the new XPS Windows up (I wanted to test something first). Everything was OK about Windows. I had to reactivate Adobe products and the Office.
-
Ok, that should work for me, thanks. Do I have to activate everything again? Office, Mathcad, Steam, or is it already activated on my ssd?Last edited: May 13, 2016

Hi guys!! i'm a new owner (literally new) and my XPS 15 can't upload Youtube videos. It can't even stream anime episodes. Though it seems my my XPS 15 can access the site, it just can't play the video. And not just YouTube, even other sites (and those sites, if you know what i mean).
Help please, my XPS 15 is just a day old... -
Everything should just work, I did have a random thought earlier, if you have a samsung SSD in this one and the new one had a Toshiba I would consider creating a backup image with Macrium Reflect free edition and restoring to the Toshiba drive as they are a lot faster than the Samsungs
Sorry but this really isn't a Dell XPS issue at all, you are better looking for help in a software forum. -
I got this one:
MOD,SSDR,512G,NVME,SMSNG,PM951 -
PM 951 is a samsung, power the new system into BIOS and see what is reports before you swap, it seems Dell have switched to the faster Toshiba drives now.
To be safe I would take a full system backup to an external drive the day before it is due. -
I recommend to deactivate the products first to avoid double activations on the new system. I wish I have done that.
-
Ah, I can deactivate my license, goof to know. Thx
-
This laptop ist really a power house, shadow of Mordor us running average with 35 FPS in ultra. That's really nice, even that it is no gaming machine. But is it normal that it is getting hot so fast?
-
yes
-
Ok, good to know. I would keep this version, because everything is running alright so far, but the dead pixels are a no go. Ones you've seen it you can't lose them out of sight anymore. Hope the new one runs that good also.
-
Did that fix the ear phone / speaker problem ?
How did the store let you swap the laptop , did you have premier ?Last edited: May 15, 2016 -
Yes. It fix that problem. I went to the store with a fresh Windows installation. The problem when I went there was worse than before; the laptop would throw BSODs when plugging and/or unplugging the headphones.
They told me they had to send it in for repair (expected) but that it would take 4-6 weeks (unexpected). I had MS complete and I told them calmly and firmly that it wasn't acceptable to wait that long. He went away and came back with the manager saying that will allow a return and buying a new laptop again for a net cost of $0. That's how it happened. Very pleased with the MS store folks.
Keep in mind I took the laptop back with all the original packaging (including the shipping box to MS store) and the laptop looked like new even though I got it in December.
I am getting the sense that the audio jack problem is only happening to some early production units. You don't see people reporting this problem anymore. -
---
ok thanks for the info. I went to the msft store today and they gave me 2 choices, spend some time with the techs or just exchange it. I opt for a new exchange. Now everything works, guess it turned out to be the hardware. -
Dell promised to have my laptop repaired in 7-14 days. We're coming up on day 21 and, having wasted time waiting for it to be delivered back to me today, I think my next step is to tell them they can keep it and bring a printout of this thread with me to small claims court...
I had many of the issues discussed here - audio clicks, incorrect connection status to bluetooth devices, bluetooth useless due to very short range, wifi underperforming, trackpad suddenly thinking it should drag and not click, laptop going into a restart loop instead of sleeping until I hard booted it... and it sounds to me like basically what they're doing at the factory is randomly plugging things in and out until they can justify replacing every part.
A disappointing waste of time. -
Can someone recomend a screwdriver for the new xps 15 which is cheap and bit braking immediately? Thanks
