Someone said they were told by dell to uninstall/reinstall the 100 series chipset drivers + intel IO drivers. I've already gone back to 1.19. Anyone want to try?

I noticed removing the RealTek audio drivers and replacing them with the generic Micro$oft audio drivers did wonders for audio, particularly via an external DAC or the headphone jack. The speakers and placement are rubbish but the driver change made them at least listenable.
I don't know if you speaker problem is due to the bass boost from RealTek, an installation error, or a speaker defect, but consider changing the drivers and report back. . .

Have you opened a ticket with Dell?
Not heard back yet, bloody premium support my ass. -
New Thunderbolt 3 Firmware update and Thunderbolt Controller driver dropped today. Both are 'Urgent'...hopefully it fixes some of the compatibility with USB-C devices and docks.

LOL right, I would hate to see what non-premium support is like. I've been waiting since Friday for a call from their resolution department... -

just got a call back from dell finally. They are going to send me a new system, but they told me to pound sand in regards to a warranty extension. I even presented info from Gonzo's case and they said they still can't do it... -
Keep pushing. If I can get it you can once you get a working system. When the new one arrives phone up and say refund me so I can buy again and get a full warranty

Lol I'll try something. Seems crazy they won't even give me the one month that they've pissed away. I still don't have a working system because they didn't include the screw for the SSD and sadly I don't have one that small. -
They are talking sheite, it happens in the BIOS setup screen!
FYI the thunderbolt firmware will not update on the older BIOS. -
Weird, I'm not seeing flickering on 4k screen with the latest BIOS. The only thing I noticed - changing from 10% down to 0% does absolutely nothing. Ie, they 'fixed' hardware thing just by limiting minimum brightness on the software sidepressing likes this.
-
4K screen here, no problems with flickering, now or before upgrading the bios earlier today. Since getting the machine I've had two BSOD issues - one was the Intel graphics driver from Dell, which I swapped for the Intel generic one, and the other was before I installed the Samsung NVMe driver. I can only conclude that the latter is absolutely essential if you have the PM951. It's kind of surprising that Dell is supplying the laptop without it.
Current issues:
- Windows 10 can't create a recovery image (doesn't work on my desktop either mind you)
- The Dell download page keeps claiming that there are updates for the Intel Serial IO driver and the Intel Management Engine Interface Driver, even though they've been installed from the page. It also didn't detect the BIOS and Thunderbolt updates.
Other than that, I'm pretty happy with it. I plan on eventually getting a Razer Core and GTX1080, plus Acer X34.Kikuri likes this. -
I had to go back to 1.19 as well.
i7/16/512/4K here, and my system was rock solid until this bios update, when I started getting flickering, even at high brightness!
Has anyone else had trouble with the USB always on charging as well? -
That is exactly the issue. Regardless of what brightness you set (well more or less independent), it somehow drops every 30sec (or so) for just a very small time (like a single frame).
-
Guys can someone test the razer core with xps 9550 4k touch after this new bios update? I am planning to buy a xps 15 4k and razer core but I am waiting for the core to work properly in order to buy them together
Enviado de meu SM-N920G usando Tapatalk -
Still worked for me.
-
Can you post a video on YouTube testing it with a game. No one made a video about this with a tutorial on how to make razer core work with xps 15 9550. It is a high investiment to buy these 2 together and I wanted to watch them working together before buying

Hello, could you post link for the Samsung NVNE driver? I can't seem to find it. Also, what kind of improvements are you seeing with this driver, I had the stock driver since I bought this computer in December. Thanks

Eh. Not really worth the time, tbh. the steps I outlined I think are fine.
-
Can you tell me the steps how to make it work and if you have any bugs now using it?
Enviado de meu SM-N920G usando Tapatalk -
Yeah, this screen flickering is totally painful. Latest BIOS here. Mine shipped with the prior BIOS to this one and I had the issue on that version as well. I'm getting the problem on almost all brightness levels up to 80%. I can't test above that right now because it's late and I don't want to fry my eyes....
-
Updated i7 FHD, still see flickering on the 2 lowest options. (Although I general never have it that low anyway.) But, the two lowest options also now seem to be the exact same brightness level anyway (as other people have mentioned)...what kind of lazy 'fix' is this?
Everything else seems pretty stable so far. -
Why don't you try reading the thread I posted which only addresses this very topic: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/i-have-an-xps-15-9550-working-with-a-razer-core-ama.793250/Demostrike likes this.

Question about the XPS 15.
So in the past I thought that the 84w battery was available in more 1080p configurations than the one that comes with the 512gb SSD. My question basically, is can I get an i7/16gb/256gb/1080p/84w configuration? -
custom90gt Doc Mod Super Moderator
Yes you can, as far as I know any SSD only option will have the 84w battery - but I would double check the specs before ordering. -
Yeah that's what I thought too, but the site states a 56w battery for the 8gb/256gb SSD model.

Strange, I've had 256gb 9550s with 84w batteries. -

It basically stops my computer from crashing randomly. I know it says it's for the 950, but it recognizes the PM951 as well and installs just fine.Kikuri likes this. -
I installed the Samsung driver and now there is no BSOD anymore. However, the system will freeze sometimes; the mouse moves but nothing else responds. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Yes, uninstall the wrong driver you installed.
-
Hmm... But without the Samsung driver, the system randomly BSODs...
-
Decide what you can live with then.

Ok, after spending some more hours working on the laptop I noticed flicker. It not like a constant flicker, more like a forcwd screen refresh thing every N minutes or so. Not critical but pretty annoying. Rolled back to 1.2.0
-
I'm currently on the slow ring build 14372, and it's been rock stable.
I used to be on the fast ring, but things used to break a lot there.
Bash works fine, but it uses the same input mechanisms as cmd and powershell,
which are a lot worse ergonomically than my ubuntu vm.
Also i'd have to learn tmux to use multiple terminals with bash for windows
-
after updating to latest bios (from 5th july) my screen flickers (more like dimming) when brightness on max.
Had to roll back to 1.2 bios -
ill have a collation of dead pixels exactly in the middle of my screen (4k) it looks like black/gray hole . Is this covered by dell premium support warranty?
-
Yes, get a photo ready to email and explain you have already shut down, held down D and pressed power on to get into the screen diagnostics and confirmed it happens in that as well. (obviously do this before calling) This will save 20 minutes pratting about with the helpdesk reading the 10 point checklist.
They will send a tech with a replacement panel, insist it is a complete screen/lid assembly as you do not want them hacking off the hinge cover as they are not equipped to remove or replace it from what other members have said.
Inspect the new one for damage as it will probably be pulled from another system and not new (may get new) and run screen diagnostics and check it very carefully no matter how much of a rush the tech is in, if you find a fault get it reported by the tech.Kikuri likes this. -
Does anybody know how to change roaming aggressiveness settings for the wi-fi card? I can't see the option in adapter's properties
-
It doesn't have the option on the 1830 card.

I just got build 14383 today after moving into Fast Ring last night. So far, so good. My XPS was crashing on resume from hibernation yesterday since rolling back to BIOS 1.19 to fix the flicker, but since moving to Fast Ring this is fixed. I like the subtle UI changes in the latest build and there's no doubt a lot of UI elements are now better optimised for our 4k screens. The Settings app is just one example of that. I've just got my bash shell running, and to be honest, I'm loving it. One of things that you miss moving away from Mac/Linux is the awesome utilities and their associated package management. Now with the Bash shell you've got that on Windows, and add Chocolatey into the mix and things are actually pretty good. I haven't been this excited about Windows since Vista was released (yes I WAS excited about that and then bitterly disappointed like the rest of us) but this time I feel confident that Microsoft are going to deliver something pretty awesome. And the XPS 15 is great piece of hardware to use it on. Just need Dell to fix up a few more bugs and it's good times.
-
Wish I could find out if Kaspersky worked on that build
-
I actually tossed a coin on Bitdefender and Kaspersky the other day for this system, and ended up paying for Bitdefender. I can confirm BitDefender is performing detections as expected. I'll download the Kaspersky trial and give it a whirl for you. Will post back soon!
EDIT: OK, Kaspersky installs no problems, and did detect my malware sample. I'm just using the AV product here, not the Internet Security. But it did take quite a while to do it. It allowed the file to be written to disk, and it did lock the file quickly enough for me not to be able to re-open it. It then took at another 11 seconds to delete the file, and didn't throw up any message that it had done so. I haven't used Kaspersky before so I'm not sure if this behavior is to be expected or not.
In contrast BitDefender caught the file immediately on write and threw up a virus message.Last edited: Jul 9, 2016 -
Yeah kaspersky will let you dl stuff but not open it depending on the web browser protection you enable, thanks for testing it. Before it wouldn't let it install or refused to start the detection modules at all!

I am from Europe Czech Rep, have a question :
where do you guys (international buyers) order dell precision usually? I have always used ebay, bought a refurbished ones, as they are cheaper than from dell distribution here in Czech. -
ebay. It's cheaper than any other store unless there is a flash sale/coupon deal.
MerckAmericaco has them but it's not that cheap.Kikuri likes this. -
For the 4k touchscreen xps what is the best bios by now?

No problems!
I just use the EICAR file to test, so paste the 68 bytes into a notepad, and save that to disk. -
hello
can someone look at picture and confirm, that marked cable is for web cam /mic?
-
It's the touch screen cable but Dell do not list a mic/cam cable so it may be part of that?
Heres the service manual, enjoy. http://sishop.ea-data.com/pdf/6E9DE78C-FA59-4795-B587-2EE166F3F90D.pdf
