If you really are that paranoid then I suggest using device manager, I have Kaspersky and apart from the obvious white LED to say it is in use I also get a banner pop up.

Maybe your tin foil hat needs upgrading?

Cuckerberg doing something doesn't mean it's a good idea. And your camera isn't **** compared to your microphone. If you're going to disable just one thing, it should be your mic. You think the reptile overlords, who can activate cameras without the hardware light turning on, care about seeing you rub yourself at night?

P.s. The Chinese in that pic is just talking about the functions of the 3 wireless card cables, it doesn't talk about the circled cable.

Eh, just disable in device manager. I'm pretty sure the BIOS has an option to disable the webcam. Don't know about mic.

I had the same problem. Now it seems stable. I put latest Intel RAID/AHCI drivers from

    https://downloadcenter.intel.com/do...echnology-Intel-RST-RAID-Driver?product=55005

while remaining in AHCI mode with Samsung NVMe drivers. I installed them unzipping the x64 package and updating the driver from device manager under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers.
    Hope that helps.

According to the documentary "Transformers", the card may leave the trash and re-install itself. It's best to take a hammer to the chip just to be safe.

    Hi,

I just get my XPS 15 9550 (I7, 16G, 512G ssd, 4K) and i was wandering if my ssd was fully operational. The dell support app tells me that my SSD is NVMe PM951 SAMSUNG.

Could you please confirm those numbers are ok ?

    Thx

*sigh* I'm getting this occasional flicker on my 4k screen since the 1.2.10 bios update. Just maybe a single frame every minute or so, noticed it immediately even at the high brightness I run this otherwise great screen at.

Can someone point me in the direction of bios 01.19 so I can downgrade? Can only seem to find the newest one on the Dell site - note to self, keep the old ones somewhere in future :/

I am contemplating buying the XPS 15 when it get's updated with Pascal, what do you guys think is the likelihood of that happening this year? Ideally they will also fix some of the various QC issues a long with the update.

Never wait or expect Dell to upgrade any parts as they are usually building the next model after a years passed.

Any upgraded parts only happen when an existing one becomes EOL like the 9530 when it got a 100mhz faster CPU.

I just replaced the internal 1 TB hard drive with a Crucial M100 512GB, removed the Cache SSD and expected to see the same performance as with all my other computers (they all have this exact SSD). Unfortunately AS SSD reaches only 120 MB read/write. The Intel Rapid Storage tool then revealed the reason: the SSD communicates only with standard SATA at 1.5 Gb/s.

I searched this forum but did not find any info. Is that maybe expected behaviour, a bug in the BIOS (1.20.1), or does anyone know how to get it to use 6 Gb/s?

ASSSD is buggy so it shows the wrong results, have a bash with CrystalDiskMark instead.

otoh the wrong sata speeds could be a poor connection?

Maybe reset the BIOS if CrystalDiskMark doesn't show a better result.

Nice Speeds. Mine are similar as well.

Note: The toshiba sticks are powered by Samsung as they are Samsung chips. Therefore, the good performance doesn't surprise me.

Here's a shot of my 1tb m.2 on my XPS.

Hi guys. I hate to be "that person" but I need a little help. I purchased my XPS (I7, 16GB, 1TB SSD, 4K Touch) a few weeks ago and have been playing with it since, and for the most part completely loving it. I did the clean install as recommended by GoNz0 (a big thank you!), and followed all of the other advise on here about updates, permissions, problems, etc. I thought I literally had fixed every single thing mentioned in all 250+ pages (although admittedly my laptop was pretty nice from the start, no real issues at all). I have all my drivers up to date (or whatever version is most recommended). According to my BIOS I am in RAID (I don't think I ever messed with this), my version is 1.02 (4/7/16) and my SSD is the Samsung NVMe PM951.

The problem is it is just not benchmarking where I think it should. I used CrystalDiskMark for the SSD. Both of my sequential read speeds are low, 821 Q32T1 & 720 Seq. Write speeds seem pretty normal at 785 Q32T1 & 709 Seq. 4K read & write speeds seem normal too (I can post screenshots of Crystal if it helps). The GPU is also performing pretty poorly with regard to scores on Heaven at 241 (9.5 FPS) [ouch!], but seems just a little low for 3DMark Sky Diver at 12,853 (61 FPS) & 3DMark Fire Strike at 3,969 (20 FPS).

I am not asking anyone to test anything, I have already looked up "normal" benchmarks for this laptop and I know my SSD is reading slow (at about half?) and my scores are less than A QUARTER of what they should be for Heaven but not too far off for 3DMark. I am just wondering WHY mine is lacking?? I went with the best of the best for this computer and I am disappointed by some of these scores.

Could it be because my bios is still 1.02? Any other advise to help raise the scores? All help is much appreciated! And once again a big thank you to everyone on here for all of the tips!

    Good questions.

The old BIOS was buggy, issues all around including with SSD. So updating that will help I believe. There is always a tiny risk updating BIOS but you have a warranty that should cover that.

The latest 9550 BIOS has problems with 4k screen. I use the 1.2.0 (the penultimate) with no major issues on the FHD and read here believe it is pretty stable. Maybe you should try that BIOS and see how things go. You can see how the BIOS revisions helped people's SDD performance.

Oh and you should move out of RAID...GonZ0 has posted his ideal specs there so do a search

Thank you! I thought I had updated my bios but I guess not...I think I will go up to the 1.19 because the flickering on 1.2 with the 4K screen sounds like it will drive me crazy!
I thought I had read somewhere that since I started off with an SSD and no extra HD that RAID was fine but maybe that was my mistake.

I will make those two changes and report back. Thank you so much!

Look around this site to decide which BIOS to use. I assumed most were on 1.2.00 but maybe 4k people are on 1.19.

Also you might consider killing the Intel RST driver in addition to killing RAID - study GonZ0's posts as he runs a 4k 9550 and is a laptop engineer. There are some other good posts but that is the place to start for a good config in my opinion.

You want BIOS XPS_9550_1.2.0 Dell released a new one XPS_9550_1.2.10 that screws up the 4k panels.

Shove a picture up of the SSD scores so we can see them all please. (after the BIOS update)

Thank you GoNz0! I will go and update the BIOS now and repost.
I apologize for not reading this thread as closely as I should have for the RAID/AHCI issue. In all honesty while I am tech savy, that whole issue is a little above my head, so I just left it as it was originally.

Easy enough to get into AHCI mode, you have to do it via safe mode or it will BSOD!

Speeds should be the same in RAID mode though (within a few %)

Ok, not quite sure what is going on. I tried to update to 1.2.0 from the link you supplied, it said it was successful, but when it started back up I was still on 1.02.00 (4/7/16)! So I tried to update to 1.19, and it said something about ME Failing (too quick for me to catch the exact error but it had a code) and when I start it up it's now 1.01.19? What am I doing wrong? (or am I a complete idiot and its working I just don't know how to read bios versions?)

OK, assuming you are tech savvy I won't do the full howto.

Using MSconfig tick safe mode and reboot into it, reboot again and go into BIOS with F12 at the Dell screen.
Change the drive config from RAID to AHCI and reboot into safe mode, remove the safe mode flag and get back to windows.

    How's the speeds now?

Use flickr or imgur to post up a pic it makes easier reading!

If it is still poor and you have BIOS 1.2.0 try a BIOS default (set it back to AHCI after) and try the benchmark again.

You should be near 2400/1500 r/w with the 1tb SSD.

Is there a bad batch of XPS 9550's going around that all have bad blue tint color screens ?? I got my 4th XPS 9550 like 2-3 weeks ago and it had the blue tint issue which Best Buy people agreed was an issue. I exchanged it with another XPS 9550 and opened it in the store, and lo and behold it also had the same frickin' issue !!

4 out of the 5 XPS 9550's I've bought over the last 2 months had this issue so now I'm wondering if there's a bad batch in all Best Buys !!

Are others also seeing these color/screen issues, or am I just that unlucky ?? :( .. It's been 2-3 weeks since I last bought an XPS 9550 .. I'm wondering if it's time to try again.

Hey everyone I have just received my 5510 (E3-1505M, 16G, 256G NVMe+1T HDD) and upgraded my bios to 1.2.10, the newest. I have heard a lot that using AHCI will cause varieties of problem but I prefer to Gentoo Linux so I have to use AHCI, not RAID. It seems after 1.2.10 the problem was gone? Could anyone kind tell me is it true? I have searched a lot and don't find a answer. I'm asking here because 5510 and XPS15 9550 is really similar.

I'm at work so I don't have my camera with me, but below is a picture from the 2nd XPS I bought. You can see that the tones of the left and right side are different. Apart from the very first XPS that I tried out in early May, all others I've tried out, had this issue. The left or right side would be more bluish, and Best Buy Geek Squad people agreed that they're all defects when I go to return them.

Over the last 2 weeks I've tried two other laptops: Razer Blade and Asus Zenbook UX501VW. They're both good, but the Zenbook has even more screen issues, and Razer is too small for me (14"). Would have loved the razer if only it came in 15" ~ 16" too.

Every time I buy an XPS, I tell myself this is the last time I'm trying it out, but end up trying it out again afterwards .. The InfinityEdge look has me hooked. If only I can find a piece without any screen defects :(
