    @Schmoo2k

Can you confirm the steps i wrote down in bold is the correct way to do this? I never ever did a bios update ever.

Also someone sent me the link to the dell xps 15 9550 bios and driver link. But do i need to manually check it by putting my model?

My drives are bitlocker encrypted and I never suspended bitlocker when doing a BIOS update.

Just download the proper BIOS file (XPS_9550_1.10.0.exe) and run it with administrator rights.

Im curious but how is your encryption setup with bitlocker? Do you use tpm unlock or tpm with bitlocker pin or no tpm and just a password?

Do you have windows 10 password or pin?

Did you secure bios with a password and disable usb boot?

Im getting a lot of mixed answers from ppl who say you have to secure bios with a password and disable bios in order to prevent a thief from either viewing your computer if they stole it or they take out hard drive and put it in another computer and either can view it... or put usb stick into your laptop and put malware/trojan/keylogger in it. Do you know answer to this?

I use bitlocker with TPM and a USB Stick. My windows account is passworded, a pin installed and a fingerprint device attached. I did not enter a password in the BIOS. (As far as I know, a newly flashed BIOS with factory default is not password protected).

Use bitlocker to crypt your drive with any method (password, pin or USB stick) and keep your passphrase safe. You do not to do more in my opinion.

Hey all got a battery question related to this. A while back i had to buy a new battery because my battery went bad... only last about 15 minute max before it goes out. I bought a battery on ebay... because i called dell a while back and they told me they did not have my battery in stock. They did say they might have a refurbished one... which is what i do not want obviously. So i bought one off ebay from a good seller. When i first got battery, i brought it to repair shop since i dont know how to open a laptop and dont want to risk damaging it. When i was there, the repair shop guy said this was wrong battery did not fit... i notice it was very long and it didn't fit. So i had to buy a new one and return it. Apparently there is the 56whr one which i have... and the 84whr one. So i got the 56whr one and went there and the guy helped me replace the battery... but it was not with issues. After he put it in... computer did not turn on. It took maybe 30 minutes for my laptop to turn on. He put my ssd in his computer and see it worked so it was not hard drive issue. He checked the ram and see if everything is place and it was but it didnt work. He said he never saw something like this ever when replacing a battery. But eventually it worked.

Now i read that because my laptop is configured with another hard drive.. i cannot use the 84whr battery. When i first got laptop, i had no idea of this etc. My laptop battery at max last 1.5 hours. This is with battery setting at lowest and 25 percent brightness. I read that if you have the hard drive removed... you could actually then put in a 84whr battery. Is that true or false? If you do this, this is certainly not an easy task or its pretty simple? Do you just remove that 32gb hard drive and thats it? I have a samsung 250gb ssd that is my main hard drive. I do not even use that 32gb hard drive that comes along with it. I see it when i check my computer and it shows about 29.7gb. So has anyone done this and able to put in a 84whr battery? Or its too risky to do this? Is this something most ppl like yourselves could do or its more complicated? Does a repair shop charge a lot for something like this? Also i read there is a 97whr battery as well but this is for the 9560 and 9570. Could i use that with xps 15 9550?

Also I questions about backup power. Where im located, we get power outages quite a bit. We had 2 in the last week... one was about 30 minutes... the other was over an hour. Previously we would get it for either a few minutes or few hours and sometimes all the way till the night so at least 5 plus hours. We even had it where the power was out close to 2 days. But this is more rare. Usually its not more than a few hours. My issue though is what I do online... i cannot afford this to happen because what I do daily... i need to make sure i have at least 8 hours of power at the minimum. Thus imagine what i do if power goes out for a long time and i cannot get power and my laptop turns off, Im losing money because of it unless i go and find the nearest power outlet. The thing is when we have power outages, its almost always when there is heavy rain. We get heavy rain quite a bit and when it gets very strong, the power does go out. This happens quite a bit during the afternoon and then power could go out till late at night. Now if im not doing my thing, no big issue. But i do my thing at least 5 days a week and cannot afford this to happen.

My xps 15 9550 laptop gets me 1.5 hours of battery at lowest battery setting and 25 percent brightness. What i do on my laptop... it is intensive and uses lot of power. I also got a dell powerbank 7015L and tested it. I would let my laptop battery go to 5%, then connect it to powerbank. I notice that it would take around 1h 45m to charge it before the powerbank power goes out. It also only charges to 73% max or so and cannot fully charge my laptop to even 100%. Someone else told me he uses the same powerbank or similar one for an inspiron laptop and told me he could charge it multiple times to 100% etc. But he also says he has it charged all day to it and has no issue. So i assume its because his computer is not that powerful and quad core since it can last so long. So when i use laptop on battery for 1h 30m, i connect to powerbank. Let say it charges for 1h45m. Now im on the battery and say i get about 1hr on it before power goes out. So with my laptop battery... powerbank... and battery again after the powerbank charge... i say i get about 3h45m to 4h30m that i could use my laptop for the moment i do not have power. I would say its more on the lower end because i tested this while doing my thing... but not running as much programs intensively.

I know if i get another dell powerbank, that would give me another 2h30m to 3h. That is good. However that would only be 6h15m to about 7h30m though. Again its more of the lower end. Now if i get 2 more power banks, then i would have 8h45m to 10h or so which would be ideal. It cost about 125 usd for each of these powerbanks. The other thing is im not in the US at the moment so would be harder to get it.

I read about UPS. Now i read its for desktop and monitor and for making sure you save your information. Now what if i were to get one for my laptop? I read there are 500VA, 1000VA and 1500VA. I see there are even higher than that. Now could i get a UPS with the sole purpose of it be using it for my laptop while im doing my thing? Let say i get a 1000VA one. How many hours would i get out of it? Does it depend on my laptop battery? I read it depends on how many watts you draw per hour on your laptop. Well i will say my laptop when i use it intensively does use power. So is there a way to estimate this? I normally use my laptop connected with 2 external monitors when im doing my thing. Obviously when power outage happens, im only on my laptop screen so no big deal. So if i get one... does it need to be connected 24/7? Could i just charge it fully then unplug it. Then whenever power outage happens, i connect to it? Or it does not work that way?

Also how are the electricity costs? I read it increase your bill a lot? So only if you have it 24/7 connected? What if i don't have it connected. Then the only time i connect it to power is when i used it up after a power outage and it needs recharge? Or is that not good idea because it damages or wears it out? Because since im not using a desktop... i don't need to connect it all the time right? I also dont want my electric bill to be so high because its connected all the time. Thus my powerbank... i only connect it to power when i need a recharge. Then i leave it there in case i need to use it.

So should i get a UPS? Is that ideal or the ideal would be get another powerbank or 2 powerbank? Of course this is harder because im out of the US now. If i use a UPS, ideal way to do it? I already have a powerbank. So i assume battery goes out... use my laptop on battery for 1h30m. Then connect to the UPS and use it while its charging and then do my usual thing? And keep it connected even when my battery is 100% as oppose to unplugging it and using it on battery for another 1h30m before plugging it back in? Does either of these 2 ways work out the same in terms of power?

So assuming i have it connected always... then i notice my laptop battery shows not charging anymore which means UPS ran out. Then i use my laptop on battery for 1h30m before connecting my dell powerbank to it? Then use it while charging. Then once it runs out... use it on battery? Or have the laptop connected to the powerbank immediately after UPS runs out... and even though battery shows 100% on battery connect to powerbank anyway? Would the amount of battery you have still be the same on a powerbank if you connect to it while at 100% and use it as is as compared to using laptop on battery till 5% and connecting to it?

    Not True.
Open it up and unscrew the 2.5" HDD bay so the larger battery can fit in it's place.
Yes and you just replace the 56whr with the 84whr battery and close the unit up.
That is strictly your call as what might be simple for some could be considered too difficult for others. Look at the ifixit link and then you decide.
I suggest you just get the 84whr battery and don't go there.

Not so fast... :) Drew1's 250GB SSD is what's currently occupying the 2.5" HDD bay. It would need to be replaced with an NVMe drive in order to use the 84WHr battery.

Drew1 seems to repeat the same backstory and questions quite often, which is confusing for us and ultimately probably confusing himself. I believe this question was already asked and answered a few days ago:

Dell has released over a dozen new updates and BIOS over the past month. Glad to see continued active support.

Hopefully, the promised DPC latency fixes will also cover the 9550.

Well here is the thing. When i first got the new laptop. I brought it to repair shop because it only came with a 1tb 7200rpm hard drive. It also came with that 32gb hard drive but i didn't pay attention to this. When i went to repair shop to have my old 250gb samsung ssd put in it and take out the 7200 rpm hard drive, he did that. I then went back to my apartment and used the computer. Then i noticed hey why can't i download files because apparently they are going into the 32gb hard drive instead of the 250gb one. I then called and asked him about it and he said yes thats because the 32gb is the main one or something but you can always manually have anything you download moved to the 250gb one. I of course did not like this as this was not automatic. So i asked could he change it and he said yes so i brought the laptop to him. He then fixed this issue but when he did this... he did not switch my 250gb ssd with the 32gb ssd hard drive by switching places right? Or can he do that? I assume not because the 32gb ssd is much smaller? I recalled it was pretty tiny when he opened my laptop and showed me what he was doing. Again this was over 1.5 years ago so my memory may not be 100 percent on this. He did fixed the setting to where my 250gb is the main drive.

So based on this... is my 250gb ssd occupying the 2.5hdd bay or is the other 32gb ssd that is occupying it? When he first opened my laptop, he was surprised because he rarely seen a laptop has that 2nd hard drive come with it. I think he said this. Does that make sense?

So if indeed my 250gb ssd is occupying the 2.5hdd bay... that means i would have to another ssd drive right? Thus i have to copy everything from my 250gb ssd to the new ssd if i want my computer to turn on and everything looks the same? Thus pay xx money for that new ssd... then copy my old ssd to the new one. Then have a new 84whr battery. Then have that part removed?

But if its already where it is... i just need that part removed and the 84wrh battery?

The other thing is this. When i first brought him the battery and then said... its too long and big and not compatible. Do you know why he didn't say something like... that battery would fit if we remove that hard drive? Do you think its because he didn't thought about it... or he assumed that hard drive that was there was my main hard drive or he thought i didn't want to take it out even if it was a 2nd hard drive? All he said it not compatible and i had to order the 56whr one instead and return the 84whr back. Because if he told me it would work if he removed the hard drive... and say it was the 32gb i do not use and its easy, obviously i would have done that... especially since it was the 84whr battery. The other thing was back then... i always thought my battery was the standard battery. I know about the 3 cell, 4 cell and 6 cell battery and always thought mine was the standard 6 cell because ppl talked about how good battery life was... which to me was never that great. I assume because he didn't know about my computer specs... he didn't consider hey it would work if he removed the hard drive?

Hey. I actually read most of these articles already.

But people seem to say... dont use a UPS if you plan to use your laptop while continuing to do your thing. Do you agree with this?

From what i research, the options are

    Powerbank
    UPS
    Generator
    Invertor

I read you cannot use a generator inside the apartment so that is out of the question. Invertor... it seems you could use inside? Powerbank obviously works. But a UPS... there are not much information about it concerning using it with a laptop. Do you know why besides because you can use your laptop for a bit on battery?

Surely there are ppl here that are using laptops where even if there is a power outage... well they still need to get some work done or something that is at least 6+ hours? How would you handle this besides having at least 2 or even 3 powerbanks? The thing is i cannot get more powerbank now because im outside the US at the moment. But i could get UPS so thats why im curious about UPS. Because if say i have 3 dell powerbanks with me... that would be enough for 7 hours at least.

In my opinion as well, Yes.
A UPS is mainly to be able to allow you to save all your needed work, get a quick document printed, scanned or etc. and shut down properly and the more expensive they are the more external peripherals you can hook up as well as giving you more time to save your work and shut down properly.

No, No, & No not if it's a gas generator and I'm pretty sure you can figure out why not.
Now the world can be your oyster if you have endless monies and I honestly don't know your financial situation or just how far you want, need or can go so I suggest if a generator is what you want and need look at this:
    https://www.geneforcepower.com/apartment-size.html
An "Inverter" changes DC (Direct current) to AC (Alternating current) so if you can or want to work out of your vehicle, train or etc. with your needed Internet access than by all means go for it. Like I keep saying, It's your call.
Once again I say, It depends on your financial resources and in my opinion if you have the money then just buy a backup/smaller or etc. laptop that will yield you the battery life hours you need to get your job done until the power is restored.

Yes, your 250GB SSD is occupying the 2.5HDD bay.

Correct. You would need to get an NVMe m2 SSD, have your data copied to that, then remove the 250GB and 32GB drives. The NVMe m2 SSD would go where the 32GB drive is now.

It's likely he wasn't very familiar with this model and its different possible configurations. You mentioned earlier that he was surprised there was a 2nd HDD in the laptop. My other guess is that he didn't think about it or assumed you wanted the hard drive there since you brought in your old 250GB SSD that you wanted to use.

    Some things to consider:
    • The 84WHr battery is only 50% bigger than the 56WHr battery, so you may not be getting a massive improvement like you may be thinking. For example, if you're getting around 1.5 hours with your 56WHr battery, you'll get around 2.25 hours with the 84WHr battery.
    • Getting a new NVMe SSD, a new battery, plus the labor will cost some money. That's not even including the power bank you already bought, or any additional power banks, UPS, etc. that you may end up getting.
    • Considering the previous points and the fact that the 9550 is a few years old now, it may be time to step back and consider/weigh some other options. Perhaps researching for a new computer that fits your needs and selling the 9550 is better in the long run. In my opinion, this is starting to sound like a money pit. Again, everyone's situation is different, so only you can decide what is best for you.

I agree, but sadly I don't think he's pulling our legs. It was also discovered that he cross posts the same questions on other forum sites and does not let us know, so many of us could be wasting our time here ( link). I've been lurking on here for awhile and was getting frustrated with the repetitive posts/questions again and had to say something! lol

Unfortunately I would have to disagree. I think Drew1 isn't by any means a computer guru, as I am definitely not, yet thankfully I can find my way very well around & through things, and he's turning to everyone in this and other venues to learn what he obviously doesn't know.

On the other hand, I greatly agree with member codester in that, Drew1 should at least let everyone who took the time to answer the questions and tries to help to know if a resolution was achieved or not, as this not only enlightens others greatly that may be having the same issue(s), yet as already said by codester, it also stops everyone who are using their time to answer questions that already have in fact been answered.

Okay so this seems very complicated and cost me a lot more money and only 50% battery isn't going to be worth it.

But based on what i described, does that mean 100% you are sure that the 250gb ssd is occupying the the 2.5hdd bay? So the 32gb is occupied where? What is the name of it?

Yea i think it wasn't familiar with it. I think i asked him something like that as well and he said something like that to it.

Do you know about how much i would get for it? If i sell it, ebay right?

    Dell xps 15 9550
    i5-6300hq processor
    8gb ram
    250gb ssd
    56whr battery

Do you have recommend of what computer would be good replacement for it? I need a quad core laptop as what i do uses lot of processing power. Do you think the dell xps 15 9570 is what i should get if i decide to get it? It has 97whr battery. The thing is i wont get this laptop now... because im not in the US at the moment. But i think i might upgrade later on.

Do you have thoughts on the thinkpad t480? I read the battery life is the longest ever. I checked and there is i5 and i7 processor but not sure if its quad core?. Now what seems good about it is it seems you could buy a backup battery... but only only that... the battery is removable. Thus imagine using it and its low battery. You don't need power outlet, connect your extra battery to it. Now the battery it mentions it ridiculous. But if that is what it is... you think i get at least 5 hours on it doing intensive things on it? Now imagine with the backup battery, thats another 5 hours... that would surely be enough right?

Hi there. Yes i have posted my questions here on another forum. Because i wanted to get multiple advice. Such as with the backup battery and how to get more power if i have no electricity.

Again, im not tech savy. I could do your basic computer things. Anything else i ask questions because i dont want to screw something up. Example like BIOS update. Some ppl here said do it ... its easy and nothing. I asked another forum... ppl said do not do it if you dont have a sole purpose and if you know for sure if it fixes the issue. Such as even though its rare... a bios update could screw your computer up. I then googled xps 15 9550 bios update and in a dell forum few ppl said it bricked their laptop. So after that, i thought okay i dont think it want to try this etc.

Hey all just curious about this. I bought the powerbank not long ago from dell directly when it was on sale the 18000mah dell companion that was around 100 dollars.

    https://www.dell.com/en-us/work/shop/accessories/apd/451-bbkv

Its price is around 125 dollars now on the site normally.. I checked on ebay and there are ppl that are selling the smaller one... PW7015M that is only 12000mah. Its brand new.

    So basically 3 of those smaller PW7015M = 2 PW7015L that are 18000mah?

If so, does anyone know why its so cheap for the 12000mah on ebay? Its like 32-50 dollars each and new while the same on dell's site is about 95 dollars? Amazon shows 37 dollars or so.

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Dell-P...:J~MAAOSwwkNcT3po:sc:USPSPriority!11228!US!-1

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Dell-P...:nZUAAOSwmXpcIn33:sc:USPSPriority!11228!US!-1

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-PW7015...352622&hash=item467efdfbe9:g:Xz0AAOSwYhdbKo9M

The seller seems to have a pretty good rating and many sold at least with 1 or 2 of the sellers. Because its like i could buy 3 of them... the 12000mah, they cost less than buying just 1 of the 18000mah. Does anyone know why? Im assuming the pw7015m is not good or something? Obviously it has less power... but under 40 dollars for it seems a bit fishy?

I feel the dell power bank can be used only charging the device rather than use it as an alternative to pure AC power.
For heavy usage go for smaller mAh because it can handle wear and tear much better than higher mAh battery. Reviews are very important. I personally feel this seller has uploaded all photos of the product so you can the manuf. date https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Dell-P...:J~MAAOSwwkNcT3po:sc:USPSPriority!11228!US!-1

    Drew1,

You are 100% + Correct, and I just couldn't agree with you more. If you just update everyone on your posted issues and whether or not the gracious recommendations & suggestions by the GREAT members solved or didn't solve them, it would truly & hopefully help the ones that could possibly be having the same scenario's as well.

As far as I'm concerned, it's individuals like you that keep this GREAT Venue going and I'm sure how it was intended to be.

Drew1's struggles reminds me of what I was told over twenty five years ago when I first began my interest in computers and eventually began to work on them myself.

The advice was always buy the most computer you can afford even if cheaper ones near your requirments are available. Never scrimp on features figuring to add them later as it always winds up costing you way more than if you had gotten them when you needed then from the start.

After falling away from this rule when I purchased our two 9550's, it was the reason I backed off getting a new machine this past winter.

I'm hoping that if he is going to continue his interest in high performance portable computing that he might heed this advice the next time around------not to mention increasing his understand and knowledge of the practical aspects of these machines as well.

If you are in the US I have used TX47W speakers in good condition from a 9550 that I can sell you. Feel free to make an offer via PM. You pay actual shipping charges in addition.

EDIT- I replaced the original speakers due to the clicking from changing brightness with f9/f10 buttons. The new speakers made no difference so I have the extra set of Dell speakers originally with the laptop.

I also have the original soundcard for sale. I replaced that and f9/f10 brightness clicking did not change.

FYI Dell fixed the f9/f10 brightness with a BIOS update a year ago.

Can others confirm this is true? So getting a 12000 mah power bank is better than a 18000 mah? Also if say i can get 2h30m from a 18000mah powerbank, does that mean the 12000mah would get about 33 percent less and thus about 1h40m or so? I got the 2h30m by charging my laptop on battery say at 10%. It takes about 1h45m to charge until the powerbank runs out. Then my laptop probably gets 70% battery only. I then get another 45m-1h on it. So with the 12000mah, im guessing it would charge my laptop from 10% to like 45% only? Something like it can charge it for 50m then powerbank is done. Then i have another 40m on battery with it?

I did a battery test on my xps 15 9550. It shows design capacity = 55997mwh. Full charge capacity = 23655mwh. Does that mean i used up more than 50 percent of my battery? I got this 56whr battery a little more than a year ago as replacement for the original battery that pretty much was done.

In the bottom of the test it shows

Current estimate of battery based on all observed drains since os install

    1:13:25

    Capacity Remaining

The one below is at Design Capacity

    2:53:49

I do get around 1h15m on my laptop battery after its fully charged. So that means when my battery was first new, i could get close to 3hours? I would say when i got battery new, it was like 2h15m to 2h30m but thats if i dont use it at full tilt. When i use it at full tilt.. thus using my programs and chrome tabs, i get max 2 hours at the most. It was more like 1h30m.

Also i want to mention that i play online poker on my laptop and use a program that is very intensive which uses lot of power. Thus thats why my laptop is a quad core in order to handle it. It uses SQL i believe.

So based on this, that means my laptop fully charged gets around 1h 13m right? That number seemed right.

So what is my best option to get more battery on my laptop as backup when a power outage happens? If i get a new battery, i get max 2h i assume since im using it on full tilt. I have a dell powerbank P7015L that would give me 2h30m to 2h45m battery. But right now, im not the US so i cant get a new battery for it. I mean i could get another powerbank but i would be paying a lot more for it here. I could also get a UPS but others say they are not meant to be using it with a laptop while continuing to do your thing. So best option for me? I basically have around 3h45m to 4h of battery when you factory in my laptop battery and the dell powerbank. Anyone know how i could get at least another 4h30m?

If i get another powerbank that is 18000 mah, that would get me 2h30m or so. If i buy 2 of them that would get me 5 hours. What about the 12000mah? that would be requiring 3 of them right? The other option is UPS. But where im located here, they are expensive. But would a 1350va/810w or 1500va/900w give me at least 3 hours at the minimum?

Uninstall Dell Command center which has a Adaptive battery charge thresholds which silently kills battery and cause high wear and tear on light usage. Even in BIOS use option to charge battery to 100%.
Windows 10 won't charge battery if it has drained from 100-95% and preserve battery lifetime. Windows starts charging the battery once the battery level has dropped to 94%.

I went to uninstall or change a program. There is no Dell Command Center there. When i click on the search bar on windows 10, nothing shows up for dell command center.

I think they have bifurcated into 3 different apps called Dell Command, Dell command power and others... Any weird Dell icons in notification tray? Check BIOS > Advanced section.

There is nothing on the notification tray regarding to this. Only dell audio.

You mean you want me to access bios? By that you mean when i start up my laptop? I always was hesitant doing this as i never ever done a bios update. Reason being i had no idea one needed to. And then some ppl mention there is a chance a bios update can brick your laptop though small percentage and i don't want to risk that happening...

So you can't do this battery setting without going to bios setting?

Never update BIOS from Dell, let me take a look at your BIOS executable to see if it has latest uCode and MEI FW.
Just go to BIOS using F2 key upon start. Post some screenshots or pictures.

    Drew1,

Member Vasudev is not asking you to Flash/Update your BIOS he just wants you to enter into the BIOS and take some pictures of your Setup so he can very graciously look it over and see how you're system is setup.

    To enter BIOS screen

    Step 1
Turn on your computer or reboot it.

    Step 2
When you see the Black screen with the White DELL Logo Splash Screen appear Press the F2 Button and hold it down until you enter into the BIOS screen. You can also just keep tapping on the F2 Button when you see the DELL Logo Splash Screen appear as well.

@Drew1 The BIOS contains only Spectre microcode updates and some old MEI firmware 11.8.x. Had to use PhoenixTools and MC extractor from Platomav.

Hey all. Okay well I was hesitant to even go to the Bios option with the f2 thing. I will do that in a bit.

Okay so I mentioned i have about 1h15m on laptop battery. Someone on another forum told me to do this

They said to right click desktop and open nvidia control panel and select 3d settings.

    3 options

let app decide which is default
    nvidia graphics
    integrated adapter.

I changed it to integrated adapter because he says it uses the least power. I then unplugged my laptop from charging. I noticed that it shows 1h45m on my battery. But right now im just web browsing. But it does seem to show my battery time on it. Can anyone here confirm this does add more battery to it? What is the purpose of the nvidia graphics then?

Okay so im watching a youtube on how to get better battery life. One of the things it mentions is check to see which apps are affecting battery life.

I notice it shows within 24 hours, and the apps with usage

    Windows explorer shows 23

    smart defrag updater shows 13%

    Cortana 12 percent

    feedback hub 10%

    smart defrag 5 9%

    microsft store 6%

Everything else is 1% or less than 1%. I do not use smart defrag updater, cortana or any of those things i mention. So if i fix this, it would make battery better?

    Example i click on cortana

It shows in use: 0% Background 12%

Shows checked let windows decide when this app can run in the background

Do i uncheck it? If so, it now shows

Checked Reduce the work the app can do when its in the background

Unchecked Allow the app to run background tasks

But there is no option to never allow in background like in the youtube video?

Smart Defrag updater shows 11% in use. 1% background.

I don't use any of these programs. I don't even defrag because i read you never do that to an ssd correct?

So what should i do with these apps? Why can't i not allow any of these? Also i don't believe i defraged or optimized my ssd once because back then i recalled doing that to your ssd would make it worst. But when i use to do it... i think i have done that in an ssd previously and also this one when it was on a different laptop, it did give me more space.

So should i defrag it? But on what i posted above with all those apps, is that causing my battery to wear out faster?

Okay looked through those articles. So i wont defrag it thanks.

Okay so what about those programs i have running and in background use? How do i not use any of them? There is no option to press for this... such as smart defrag and cortana which i never use.

Open up Task Manager, go to the Startup tab and then Disable the applications you don't use. As far as smart defrag, I truthfully never heard of it yet if it's a 3rd party program installed on your computer, which you don't use or want, go into the Control Panel and under Programs & Features uninstall it and any other 3rd party programs you don't use as well.

Be very Careful not to uninstall anything that's needed by Windows.

Why do you suggest to never update BIOS from Dell - over the years I have always kept my Dells on the latest BIOS versions and I am hard pressed to think of any negatives (but a lot of positives)?

Specifically this Dell model and some older were screwed by Dell BIOS updates and needed mobo replacements.
Drew 1 wasn't intending to do a BIOS update so I re-assured no need to do BIOS if system is working fine.
