Heard about this. No problems with the update on either machine.

    Thanks.

Hey all. I use bitlocker to encrypt my laptop as i have to enter a pin to get in my laptop. Also i have a windows 10 password as well.

Sometimes, im not in my apartment and do leave the computer on... but i make it in the windows 10 password screen etc. Of course turning it off is the best thing to do.

I have to download some files that will take a very long time... thus imagine over a source of a few days at least if i only download it while my computer is on. So i want to have it downloading when im in bed as well so make the process faster. I noticed that whenever im outside my apartment for a while... say a bit more than an hour or a little bit more than that.. im not sure it might 2 hours... but sometimes when i come back... my laptop is powered off. I would leave my screen either back then with no windows 10 password... or now... its on the win10 password screen. My laptop is plugged in always. Can someone tell me why my laptop powers off after say 1.5 hour or maybe 2 hours? I don't know the exact time but i have had a few times when i come back... my laptop is powered off and i need to power it back on. Im pretty certain i made my computer not sleep or hibernate or anything like that a while back. Thus it does not do this even if i don't touch my mouse for a while. However, it seems like if im away for 1.5 hours or more... i dont know exact time... then this sometimes happens.

Can someone tell me what setting i have to check to see why it does this?

Also if im downloading some files in the meantime while im in bed... is it safer to lock my computer? Thus earlier when i was away, i made sure i lock my computer with the win10 screen... i was downloading a certain file. So when im in bed, doing this is best right? I know that when you lock your computer, well any download you currently have continues downloading right?

I think its windows power options on battery mode are aggressive and you need to put a high value on Turn off Display, Sleep after and similar settings.

Open the Control Panel (with large or small icons view). Click on Power Options.Change Plan Settings, Change Advanced Power Settings. When you then click on Sleep, you will find settings for how long it will be before the computer will go to Sleep and Hibernate. (I believe that the default setting hibernate is only a couple of hours).

HI there. Im in power settings.

    Sleep after

    On battery: never
    Plugged in: never

    However, it does show

    Hibernate after
    on battery: 180 minutes
    plugged in: 180 minutes

So this is why it turns off by itself then? I recalled it was between 1h 30m to 2h 30m or something like that before it turns off itself. But last time i had my laptop on for around that time it did not turn off. So 3 hours... that does make sense.

So is this the reason why my computer turns off? Again, i know after a while when im not in apartment and come back... sometimes computer turns off... so this is it? Thus hibernate means computer shuts off fully and i need to turn it on and log in with my win10 pw and everything right?

So change the hibernate to how many minutes then if i want computer on the entire time? Because there doesn't seem to be option to put never on it.

But what do ppl here put for that?

You can either type in the word "never" or else type in a very large number, such as 10.000 minutes. Either way will work.

Last time i bought a new battery through ebay. It was a seller who had great feedback and battery seemed to be legit. I might have to replace the battery soon. Is ebay basically the only place to get the 56wh battery? What about you all with the 56wh or 84wh or 97wh? None of these batteries seem to be available on dell's site? So how do you get a brand new one then? I like this laptop and still prefer to keep it as oppose to buying a brand new xps laptop. I recalled the last time i contacted dell on this, they told me they had no more of these batteries and the only available ones were refurbished so i didn't bother to get that.

The only thing i would like to change about my xps 9550 laptop is the 56wh battery that i can use only as oppose to other ppl with the same laptop that has the 84wh or 97wh battery option. But because my laptop came with 2 hard drives... i cannot do that unless i remove one of the hard drives and get a brand new ssd etc which is what i would not do as that process will be complicated. Thus i would need to get a brand new m2 ssd... then the 97wh battery... then go to repair shop and have the person take out my hard drives and put new one in. You all agree don't bother with this right?

Many sellers on ebay seem to have not legit batteries... but some seem to be legit but not many. How do you replace your 9550 batteries?

    I bought a 97 W battery for my XPS 9560 from this 3rd party seller on Walmart.com.

    https://www.walmart.com/reviews/seller/8259?offerId=02849D6F0B0C4207ABEAC144F7B15429

It was advertised as a genuine Dell battery, and that description appears to have been accurate. Shipping was very fast,

(Originally, I had tried to buy the battery directly from Dell, but Dell has been out-of-stock for the last 2 months. I find it to be unacceptable that Dell would not be able to stock replacement batteries for computers that are still relatively new.)

Hey chang, i took a look at that. That does look legit. So you bought it from that seller 2 times is that correct? Curious how often you had to replace the battery?

lesz, is the 97w battery as good as you expected like the original dell battery? Wow thats pretty expensive from a 3rd party. I didnt know walmart has 3rd party sellers there.

Drew1, I replace my battery round about every year. But I have heavy wear due to long hour usage. You can check your battery wear level with the Dell diagnosis from boot.

Hey all, im having a ton of issues right now with my xps 15 9550. So recently, i notice whenever i had to turn off or turn on my computer, a few times after i entered my bitlocker password etc, i notice there was a windows update which i was not aware of and it showed it right when i was either turning off or on it. Happened 2 times just earlier today and yesterday i believe. But it was real quick before it turned on or off computer. Well whenever there is windows update, i let it do its thing and then my computer is on fine without an issue.

Right now i turned on my laptop, entered my bitlocker password, then it was downloading windows update, then i had to enter my password again but then i logged in. Then i notice... it keeps on right clicking. My mouse has no issues at all... then i tried the trackpad and i think this might be a trackpad issue? I would use my mouse and when it right clicks, i would then left click it. Then there is no right clicking for a bit.. then it starts doing it again. The issue now is after this, i can't even click on anything like the chrome tabs i have at the bottom. Its like you cant even click on it most of the time. Then i notice when i try to click on icons on my desktop or my documents, it doesn't work and when i tried to delete a document by highlighting it and press delete, it would not delete it, it would right click it sometimes. Then when i got a document deleted... i went to recycle bin but i cant even click on it. Basically i cant even click on most of the things on my desktop at all. So the only way i can restart or shutdown is click the windows logo on my keyboard... then use the left right buttons on keyboard to restart or shutdown.

Does anyone know why im having these issues? Anyone had these same issues with their 9550 previously? I basically can't click on any program etc and do anything on it. Is this a trackpad issue? I will also say that i have a 232gb ssd and now there is around 20gb only available. Could this trigger it because i only have 20gb of space left and my storage is low? Do i need to immediately delete programs off my computer so this could solve the issue? It does show the storage as red so to speak when its below a certain storage and i believe a computer could have issues when storage is low right. Did the windows update possibly caused this? Could i system restore it to an earlier time or something like that when i didnt have these problems? I just have these programs right now when i turned on my xps 15 9550.

Im concerned about this because my last laptop a while back was a sager laptop... it had that same issue with the mouse clicking. Eventually one day... while i was busy doing my thing and using lot of cpu and ram which i always do but my laptop had 8gb ram and a quad core processor so it handles it it suddenly turned off and when i went to repair shop, they said they can't fix it. I had to go back to the US to get a new laptop and when I did go back to the US and went to repair shop I was told the laptop can't be repaired.

Then i got this xps 15 9550. But with my xps 15 9550 as long as i had it, over 2.5 years, i had some issues previously a while back where laptop turns on but nothing loads... but eventually the issue somehow got fixed. So basically i have had very few issues with it at all. Now... this issue concerns me because it keeps on right clicking and I can't click on anything most of the time.

Does anyone have any tips on what i can do now? Would i have to go to repairshop for them to take a look at this? Could it be something with the touchpad as the most likely culprit? If it is the touchpad, would it be simple for a repair shop to open my laptop up and fix it very quickly? My issue here is im in another country now and they don't have parts for my xps 15 9550. Last time, i had to go back to the US to get a new laptop.

    Thanks.

Phewwww Drew1 I'm still trying to determine the best way to answer ALL your questions and right now I unfortunately cannot yet what I can suggest is, if there's absolutely no way to shut down or restart Windows via keyboard or mouse then you're left with no other option but to do a Hard Shutdown by holding down the power button until the unit completely shuts down.

I would then wait a few minutes then try powering back up your system and see if the same issues exist. I really don't know how long you have been using your unit with the storage capacity indicating low/red yet from my standpoint that definitely could trigger many issues and I would definitely backup all of your important data once back into the system ASAP via an external Hard drive, USB Flash or etc and then ultimately rectify your low storage situation.

In answer to your question if this situation and system behavior has been experienced by anyone I could honestly & thankfully say, no, yet that doesn't mean that others haven't in one form or another. What you're describing can be so many things such as a virus, bad driver,
Insufficient memory, storage and on and on and and on and frankly, it's just randomly guessing and grasping at straws.

I can turn off my computer. I did earlier. But this requires me to click on the windows button my my external keyboard... then use the directional buttons on my external keyboard to get to restart or shutdown... then i click enter on my external keyboard.

I mean if i had to shut down my computer my dragging my mouse to the windows and shut down... i can't do this because i can't left click on start menu.

Yes i know about the holding the power button on laptop to turn it off that way.

Well last time i noticed the storage got very low so i then immediately deleted or moved some items to the m.2 ssd that i also have there. Then i had around 22gb available on my current 232gb ssd drive. Then today i notice now its less than 20gb and red. So im wondering do i have to move tons of files to the other one or delete it... thus could this be a possible reason for the issue im having now?

Well if you google laptop right clicks for no reason... im sure you would find many hits on this. My previous laptop... a sager had the same issues.

Well im having these issues right after windows is doing updates. The thing was i get the message windows is updating now... usually after i turn off computer or turn on computer....

Also here is something that i notice has happened not that long ago. Whenever i do a virus scan with my windows defender, the cpu goes up to 100%. It stays there for a long time and sometimes drops down, then goes back to 100%. I did a virus scan previously as well recently.

But again, it was just earlier that i have this mouse clicking issue. It basically keeps right clicking... so im guessing it is my touchpad issue? Also i will say this. My laptop keyboard, and in general itself, its a bit dusty as i rarely touch the buttons or screen or anything etc. Its been like this for a while. But could this cause it?

Now is there a way to system restore or something like that like? I think back when i used windows 7, there was this option.

I didn't install any drivers or anything manually. Only thing is there was windows update... again... i turn on my laptop or turn it off... then it shows... waiting... windows update etc... and then i let it do its thing.

But i want to know, if this issue could be resolved without it being a huge hassle. The reason is because if something needs to get replaced like a certain part i can't get, well that would suck because i can't get it here.

Well i have 8gb memory only. I will upgrade it the next time. But certainly this has nothing to do with my mouse clicking right?

Okay so i turned on my laptop again... while having it connected to my 2 external monitors and having the port hub connected to one of my usb ports on my laptop as usual. It did load and right now there is no right clicking or anything like that at the moment. I can click on programs and icons on the desktop etc.

I do have my important documents backed up already on a usb.

So right now it seems to work normal. But should i be deleting files off my ssd or moving them to the m.2 ssd slot so to make more space for the ssd in case? Thus maybe that could have triggered it? Right not it still shows about 20gb available and its red... so that indicates low storage in ssd. So maybe thats not it? Should you always have at least 20 percent of GB free or something like that? Example 230gb total ssd... make sure you have at least 46gb free? Does anyone know if having less than say 10% storage could cause an issue like this? Thus are there ppl here with a 230gb ssd or 480gb ssd and they only have like 5 or 10gb ssd free... and can use their laptop with no issue? Or issues will arise no matter what if your storage remaining is low? Also when there are windows updates, then it would use a lot more storage right? So if say you have like 1gb left of storage or even less and windows 10 does update, its possible your computer could have issues because not enough space and its updating? Then it could cause damage etc?

Thus how much gb in terms of percentage should you always have free?

Also any way to know how much gb windows 10 uses and its updates? I believe windows 10 uses like 20-30gb right? But all these updates... is there a way to know how much total gb is used for all the windows updates ever been used?

When i check my remove programs, the biggest file i have installed is only 650mb. It shows my total installed programs to be only a bit more 7gb. My music and other video files... can't be more than 10gb max.

So it makes sense because i play poker that the program i use... is using a huge bulk of the gb right? I will ask that site about that but when you only installed 7gb of programs... and cant have more than 20gb of music, video and files, that huge bulk which is probably over 100gb is being used from that poker program right? Thus nothing else would make sense? Again, the biggest program i downloaded is over 650mb according to the remove/add program page. Itunes only uses up 500mb.

Great as sometimes a good ole reboot or shutdown is all that's needed when mysterious issues start happening.
    Kudo's to you.
Yes you're right and Yes it would be a great thing if MS's update installer would alert the user that their disk space is low and they need to free up some space before it initiates the update yet we all can dream. No it's up to you to make sure you have enough available free space for a Windows update by cleaning up and out what's not needed and reallocating what is.
Something is evidently using a big amount of space if that's all your using in video, music, files and programs and it's something you need to initially determine when buying a computer and hard drive.

Well when i had issues before with my xps, it would turn on but the screen shows dell and nothing happens. Or similar. But then after a while, it wouldn't have this issue. I thought this issue was more strange because it kept right clicking... because i had these issues with an older sager laptop which eventually went bad.

Is there any way to know exactly how much gb windows 10 pro uses at the moment on my computer? Or all the updates that it ever did? Such as okay windows 10 pro uses 32gb? And all the updates use like 10gb? Or that is not possible? Do you have a clue how much mb a windows update uses? Surely after 1 update, it can't use more than 1gb right?

I was told that the program i use, for every 10 million hands you play... which is a lot... it uses up 100gb+100gb so 200gb total. If i had to take a guess i probably have like over 7 million hands played etc... so that would mean over 150gb used up. Yes that program uses a lot of space. That person says thats why you need big ssd etc.

Well when i first got laptop, i got 250gb ssd because i never needed more than that ever. Its only now that i notice hey my storage is low. Every single laptop i ever had, i never needed anything close to that. I always had over 80gb free.

My video/music/files cant be more than 15gb at the max. So everything is from that program.

But you do agree do not let your free space with little gb otherwise there might be issues with the laptop right? Like it could have possibly caused this? The poker thread that person said you should keep your storage at least 20% free.

All I can say is, they're electronics and they definitely can and will have issues and even die at some point just like us.
Around 16 GB for 32 Bit and 20 GB for 64 Bit plus whatever updates are needed.
Go to Settings → System → Storage → This PC → Temporary Files and remove what is not needed to free up some space.
FYI - Windows updates are in the Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download folder.
    Yes.
    Possibly.
20% Free is a good ballpark number.

Yes, if you're unsure then don't remove anything.
Try doing a system restore to an earlier date when you had no issue.

Okay. So the moment i turned off my mouse... its the logitech trackball mouse... that right clicking stops. I then used the touchpad on my laptop to move cursor, no issues. Now i use another wireless mouse and there is none of that clicking issue.

So that means its 100% my trackball mouse right? The thing is it would start highlighting icons and keep right clicking.

Sounds like a mechanical issue? Plug your trackball into a diff PC and see if it works there - if not, you have confirmed its the trackball and not the 9550.

So here I thought or worse yet assumed that you had already determined, through troubleshooting, that it was in fact not your external mouse causing your issue(s) before I rendered my suggestions yet we all know too well what usually happens when one ASSUMES. :(

Hi there. I did not thought about connecting the trackball to another laptop for some reason.

I only thought about just connecting another mouse to my laptop.

When i connected the trackball mouse to chromebook, i notice a very similar issue. When i have a few chrome tabs opened on one chrome page, i cannot use my mouse... nor use my chromebook trackpad co click anything it. However, if i were to highlight the chrome button at the bottom in the chromebook where i have a few chrome windows opened... each with chrome tabs in it.. then i click on another chrome window and either use my mouse or chromebook trackball, i seem to be able to click on things. But i cannot click on almost anything with my right click unless i try very hard and only on certain spots. Is this a bug or something with my trackball mouse?

Okay so imagine this. I click on a forum or site with my left click of the mouse. Now i press real hard right click to open in new window so a new chrome tab in the same chrome window. Thus imagine a few chrome tabs on a single chrome window. I cannot click on any of the other chrome tabs at the moment that is visible at the top. But not only that... when i use my chromebook trackpad and move to click on it with the trackpad, i can't click on anything. But if i wait a bit, i can click on it sometimes with my trackball mouse... and also with my chromebook trackpad.

I mean if its a trackball issue, okay fine i cant click on it with the logitech trackball mouse. But why would i not be able to click on it with my chromebook trackpad where i move the arrow manually with the trackpad? Is this a logitech trackball issue that affects my trackpad and the current windows opened or something? I use chrome.

Right now, i seem to be able to click on links or anything on a current chrome page. But if i were to try to manually click on another chrome tab on the same window... imagine i have a few tabs on the same chrome window... i can't seem to do this. It doesn't work with my trackpad either...

I had this trackball mouse for over a year already. I do admit that i have this tendency to get it wet quite a bit... imagine getting a bottle of water and drinking it and then some water is on the trackball mouse but i then wipe it. But sometimes i don't do it immediately. But i had this happen quite a few times already. Could this have caused it? Its just i had this few times already but i haven't had an issue so im wondering if this could have caused it.

    Drew1,

Just too many questions with too many scenarios and possibilities.

    1. Start out Basic. If you have the Logitech Software installed on your system and there is no available update for it then uninstall it. In Device Manager make sure under Mice and other pointing devices the Logitech Trackball mouse isn't listed. If it is Right-click it and uninstall it. Reboot the computer and let Windows assign it the default driver.

If after this the same problem(s) still exist move onto 2. and if not then try downloading the Logitech Software again from their site and re-install it and then see if it happens again, as sometimes the driver could get corrupted and needs to be reinstalled or the software needs to be updated.

    2. Disconnect the Logitech Trackball mouse and any corresponding peripheral from the system and Reboot the computer. Now try the on-board touch-pad and controls and see if the issue does or doesn't exist. If it doesn't then plug in another external mouse and see what happens. If the issue still isn't present then it would be pretty safe to say that your issue lies strictly with the Logitech Trackball mouse or Software.
If on the other hand the issue still exists then move onto 3.

    3. Do a System Restore to an available date when you did not have the issue and now see what happens.

Hi there. I never had to install any logitech driver or anything to my laptop. You just plug it in... and it works. Im pretty certain of this. This is with my main xps laptop and also the chromebook that i use.

I disconnected the trackball mouse many times then plug it back in later... same issues. Right now for example on my chromebook, im using the trackball mouse for a short time. It clicks okay the first minute or so... then its like freezes. So imagine a chrome window with like 3 chrome tabs in it. I cannot click on any of the other tabs on this chrome window. Not only that... my trackpad cannot even click it either. The only way to seem to solve this issue with being able to click on those other tabs or click anything is wait a long time... which may or may not work... or remove the usb for the trackball mouse. The moment i remove it from my chromebook, i can use the trackpad and click on things. Do you find this strange? I mean... even if my trackball has issues, shouldn't i be able to click things with my trackpad?

If your trackball is bad, it could be blocking the click via your trackpad. If you unplug your trackball and then your trackpad works, I think you've found your issue. Simple process of elimination...

Hi there. I never heard of such a thing that a bad trackball can affect your trackpad. Thats interesting.

So does this mean its more likely the trackball as oppose to say the usb that comes with it then?

Have you heard of anything like what i just described? The moment i unplug the usb from the chromebook that is for my trackball mouse, any type of clicking then works with the trackpad.

Your physical trackball mouse could be just fine yet the USB Dongle that comes with it could've gone bad, as I have in fact had this happen to me a couple of times.

The way I was able to determine this was I had extra's of the same mouse & dongles and through, as custom90gt graciously said, through the process of elimination.

If you have an extra of the exact same trackball & dongle, which I'm just believing you don't, you could easily troubleshoot your issue yet without one it then becomes just a guess of what it could be the trackball mouse itself or the dongle, yet either way it's a pretty safe bet from your descriptions that it's either one or the other and maybe even both.

    @SDeP58

Well i had a ton of previous logitech wireless mouses... and each time the mouse went bad, it was the clicking. I never had a usb dongle go bad ever. But these logitech mouses were not the trackball just the regular wireless mouse.

I only have one trackball and that dongle.

Im curious but if its the dongle issue, could you buy a new dongle only for this mouse or you have to buy a completely new mouse?

Well Dell did finally update their Support site yet from what I could quickly see and determine is, it unfortunately looks like just for aesthetics and not for what's really needed.

This happened to my 9550 a couple of months back and its hard to describe but I'll do my best...

Way back I noticed there was this really small crack in the rear corner behind the plug. As weeks passed I noticed it was getting bigger. I started observing it and I noticed that every time I open it, the crack would expand and go back to normal whenever the screen is fully opened. After a few weeks while opening it, that corner opened fully and the screw connecting it to the rear cover fell off. I opened it then discovered that the hinge connecting the keyboard and screen was just super glued and it wore off. The warranty was expired so I brought it to a shop to have it repaired. Weeks after that, another problem came up. I noticed every time I play games the mouse pad becomes harder to press. I found out that the battery swells up whenever its doing extra work. So I had to replace it...

Now... Whenever I play games, watch movies, etc. that side where its plugged heats up really bad. There was a time the keyboard was really hot I had to remove the cord and when I touched it, it was so hot I thought my finger burned. I read that the replacement battery will cause that if not plugged right, that's true. Its hard to pinpoint what's wrong because sometimes it heats up and sometimes its normal whenever its plugged or unplugged. Its really confusing, hope you guys can help

About a year and a half ago, there was a recall of the 84w batteries for the XPS 9550. What triggered the re-call was swelling of the battery, and Dell replaced those problematic batteries with new ones.

I suspect that this is related to your issue. Perhaps, knowledge of this might help you in an effort to get Dell to do some sort of good-will repair.

When I currently try to maximise Windows Edge, there is a noticeable stutter that isn't an issue on any other laptop or desktop I own even ones with theoretically weaker specs. I assume its probably a iGPU problem, what is the right set of iGPU drivers?

    Questions:
    1. Has this just become an issue?
If so do a System Restore when it wasn't.
    2. Do you have the NVIDIA GEFORCE EXPERIENCE software installed?
If not download it then Uninstall the GTX 960M driver in Device Manager under Display adapters and then install and run it.

Hey all i know i posted this a while back but i just want confirmation before i do this.

    Laptop is

    dell xps 15 9550
    i5-6300hq processor
    8gb ram
    250gb ssd
    32gb m.2 ssd
    3 cell 56wh battery

I bought this laptop brand new few years ago on ebay not knowing that having a 2nd hard drive meant i get the 3 cell smaller battery. It also came with a regular 7200 rpm hard drive but i replaced it with an old samsung 250gb ssd of mine. I have used this laptop for over 2.5 years already.

I have bought a battery replacement for it 1 time... got it off ebay and that battery has been working fine for a bit less than 1.5 years. The old original battery basically went bad as it went out after 10 minutes or so. As of now, battery is still okay though there is wear in it. For example, whenever i turn on my laptop and say my charger is not plugged in... it shows around 92% battery and shows like 14 minute to fully charge. This is assuming i turn on my laptop without having it plugged in at the start. I always have my laptop charged to an outlet as i use my laptop inside my apartment pretty much close to 100%. So i know my battery has some wear because of this. And i get around 1h15m to 1h30m on the battery.

My laptop has had a few issues a while back like it being on the dell logo a few times and not loading etc. But this was a while back. But what laptop never has issues correct? Has anyone here never had a single issue with their xps 15 9550 such as it never froze on the dell logo screen or something like this? I assume not possible right?

I like my laptop a lot still want to continue using it. I do want to upgrade the battery to 97wh. I know there is 84wh and 97wh. Someone mentioned that if i have the 2.5 inch ssd removed, the the 84wh battery or 97wh battery will fit. Can anyone here confirm this 100%? Such as they done this or know someone that has done this? For example my processor is i5-6300hq and i know most xps 15 9550 laptops have an i7 processor. So the processor would not interfere with the battery at all right? Because i want to do this and buy all the parts. And if i do this, i have to remove my 250gb 2.5 inch ssd and get a m.2 ssd correct? I do have one at the moment 32gb that is in my laptop at the moment that came along with it but obviously its not big enough. I want to get bigger ssd... either 500gb or even 1tb one. So if i plan to use this laptop for a long time, best to get 1gb ssd? Also i know most ppl use a laptop for 2-3 years before they move to another one. But would you say its possible to use this laptop for many more years to come? Or it won't once windows 10 is replaced similar to like how no one uses windows 7? But surely upgrading it to the next windows on this laptop would fix this issue right?

I want to also upgrade ram from 8gb to 16gb. My laptop would get much more faster than right? The other issue is this. When i got this laptop new from ebay, it came with windows 10 home. When i went to repair shop to have them take out my 7200rpm ssd that came with the laptop and put in my old samsung 2.5 inch 250gb ssd, that person not only did that... but they installed a windows 10 pro copy for me. I did not ask this but they did it for me anyway. I don't recall how much i paid for the installation of windows though.

Now if i go to a computer shop and bring my laptop to them and have them take out my 56wh battery and replace it with 97wh battery, replace ram from 8gb to 16gb and take out the 250gb 2.5 inch ssd and 32gb m. 2 ssd and replace it with a 500gb or 1tb m.2 ssd, the moment they turn on my laptop, i will be starting fresh like a new computer right since you put a brand new ssd in it? Now here is another thing. When they set up windows 10 for me... or i do it myself... i will only have windows 10 home? Or would it be able to use the windows 10 pro i currently have now? I took a look at my settings and see my product key for windows 10 pro. So do i make sure i write that key on a piece of paper? That way when windows 10 home gets installed... then i upgrade to pro by entering that product code? Or would my windows 10 pro key not be valid anymore because its currently used on my computer now? Do i need to deactivate it on my computer first before i can activate it on the new ssd? I want windows 10 pro because i use bitlocker for it.

Also if i want to do all this would you say this is better than buying a completely new laptop such as dell xps 9570 or 7590? I estimate the parts and installation to be like this

    97wh battery = $100
    16gb ram = $70
    500gb m.2 ssd = $100

    Battery installation =$50
    Ram installation = $50
SSD Installation and SSD Removal = $60

    Total = $270 + 160 = $430

Would you say that is good estimate? Now wouldn't there be another installation fee since i have to get windows 10 installed once they put in my m.2 ssd? That probably is another $100?

Now if i were to buy a new xps 15 9570 with the same specs i want of 97wh battery, 16gb ram, 500gb m.2 ssd, i know it will cost minimum $1400. Also i read this laptop has tons of issues compared to the xps 15 9550 right? I heard it works for short time and not working and things like the battery is very poor compared to the 9550? Those of you who had the 9550, 9560 and 9570, how would you rate them from best to worst? Is it the 9550 still the best? I do know that the 9570 has a faster i7-8750h processor though. But is it much faster than my current i5-6300hq? Again, my laptop is more than fast enough for me.

Also don't even bother with the new 7590 since not only is it much more expensive, but its not been out long so ppl dont know if it has ton of issues right? I know that cost a lot more. If at the moment my laptop had the 97wh battery, the only thing i would consider replacing is get the m.2 ssd and upgrade ram.

    Thanks.

No idea and I see nothing on the Dell drivers site.

This month Dell pushed BIOS revisions to the 9560 and 9570. The former included DPC latency optimisation which Dell had spent a lot of time on.

Hopefully those DPC updates are trickling down to the 9550 in your 1.11.2 update.

Posted this in the windows os thread but wanted to ask here as well.

I use windows 10 pro. Got message that says

Restart and update to stay in support

Support for the windows 10 april 2018 update ends in november 2019. Restart to install a supported version of windows

    Pick a time
    restart tonight
    restart now

Do you all just restart now? I been pressing remind me later for over 2 weeks already everyday.

If i pick a time, it automatically updates it at that time regardness of what im doing?

Should i just restart now and let it update? Any issues with it going wrong when its updating? Im always hesistant when doing a windows 10 update.

I am on this at the moment

    windows 10 pro
    version 1803
    installed on June 2018

Someone in thread showed me an article that said to upgrade to version 1809 instead. That seems pretty dangerous because it doesn't seem like something most ppl do?

It mentions to keep using the current version if you like it. I do like it. But has anyone here not updated the windows 10 update last year though? Or you eventually have to update it?

Does anyone know how long before it does not let you click on remind me later? I must have clicked remind me later for more than 2 weeks now. The last thing i want is if it does this update, while im busying doing something.

Last year when i did that update, im not sure if it updated because clicking remind me later didn't work anymore... or if i clicked on a certain time to do it... and then when it was that time, i couldn't click remind me at another time.

So you all agree just update it next chance i get when im not busy on it? Also, is there a way to do this update without having to wait for the update? I ask this because everyday that i get this message, sometimes it happens early on... other times a bit later on. Its not like it always shows up at say 2pm etc. Thanks.

    Drew1,

In a quick response to both your recent posts and questions, "Just Update it when you have the time yet also make the time in regards to my recent post."

Windows 10 Pro gives you the option of delaying any Windows updates to a later Day/Time yet at some point you NEED to update for your own Security & Benefit.

You can always go to the Control Panel and Windows Update anytime and not just wait for the timed reminder to do so.

Hi there. Well last year i remember i kept delaying it but one time it update itself... i think it was because i clicked on picking a specific time and then could not change this. It was either this or it just updated itself. But can it ever update itself if i keep on remind me later assuming it's still a bit far away?

So you and most ppl have windows 10 non pro and you have to update it regardless and cant delay it by remind me later? Yes i want to update it but i read few article and ppl say this update is not good... so that is incorrect?

Can you tell me specificially where in control panel and windows update that i can find this option? Thanks.
