Opinion: The first option over any other when buying an XPS 15 should be the B+RGLED display.
Fact: If FHD is not in the budget then there are laptops available that have better 720p displays for less cost.

I was an L501x (HD WLED) user, now have an L502x with HD WLED again..
Let me tell you, L501x screen was 100000x better...
The WLED on my new XPS Sucks...
IF you have budget,go for FHD by all means.. This is from a HD user, who rarely watches movies..
I browse alot, and type documents/programs. I miss my good old L501x screen.. -
help!!! i am not able to find bluetooth icon in the taskbar and cant access.it
please help!!! -
hi all,
i have noticed that my hard drive won't turn itself off when it should. eg in power profile set hard drive to sleep after 10 mins, never goes off, and it should right? no paging file, nothing running, just the OS sitting idle, should spin down after 10 mins. my other laptops do, running same OS. is it maybe anything to do with the freefall protection?

CPUID is the program i use as do many others here. -
Anyone else experiencing loud touchpad buttons?
-
Hi All,
Has anyone had to re-install their trackpad drivers? When I power up the laptop the trackpad is all over the place, the cursor jumps all over the screen whe I try to click on anything. I have to close the lid to put it to sleep and re-open it for the trackpad to work properly and it then works fine.
Also, the 1080 display is amazing. I'd hate to go back to a 720 screen on a laptop - you get very used to its HD loveliness very quickly. -
I haven't installed new trackpad drivers, yet. I was going to see first how functional are the ones that came with the laptop.
I recall on an older Inspiron laptop, downloading drivers directly from Synaptic provided more functionality than the drivers that Dell provided. -
The touchpad buttons on my L502x are actually really quiet. However, I am currently working on setting up a brand new Vostro 17-inch laptop that my church bought to use to run media for the main services, and it has really loud touchpad buttons, but the touchpad looks exactly the same as the one on my L502x. So I think some people just luck out on quiet touchpad buttons. Maybe Dell contracts more than one manufacturer to make touchpads for them.

Thanks
87° CPU max and 77° GPU max are normal numbers? -
Running SC2 is a breeze on this XPS 15.

Question:
Just got new L502x and I reinstalled windows 7 and no where can I find drivers for the keyboard/touch buttons? What are the other 2 touch buttons supose to do? the two on right. The far left one brings up a multibattery/performance window but the 2 on right do nothing at all and no download from dell?
Tim -
Not on Windows right now but they should work after you install Dell Quickset IIRC.
-
Download the Quickset driver if you have not already done so. The middle one should allow you to assign it to whatever program you want. The right one opens the Waves MaxxAudio3 control panel in order to adjust your audio settings. Download the sound driver from Dell if you have not already done so in order to get that program.
-
Try reinstalling Synaptics. Also, download CCleaner and use it to remove junk (temporary files, cookies, etc.), and then use the registry cleaner function. Also, go into the BIOS setup (hit F2 when you see the Dell logo when you turn on your computer) and change the boot order so that the hard drive has priority over the optical drive. While you are in the BIOS, disable any unused ports (I disabled Ethernet and eSATA because I have no use for them). This will shave off at least a few seconds.
Also, remove any unwanted programs and bloatware. Some of these have components that run at startup and can bog it down. Furthermore, disable any system tray icons that allow you to do so (except for volume, network, battery, and anything else that you want to see all the time). -
Yeap. And mine is while web surfing CPU 50° /GPU 40° . Check this out on your laptop.

Hey guys i have just bought a dell xps L502x with i7 2nd gen and 1gb gt525m card. I wanted to ask that does my laptop support anaglyph 3d on the same display? As it is a normal display will i be able to watch anaglyph 3d on it? and what should i do if its possible to view anaglyph 3d.It is not showing any stereoscopic 3d option in control panel.

after fresh.install dell recovery partition has appeared in.mycomputer earlier it was not there how do i hide it....???
-
When you install Dell DataSafe Local Backup, it hides the partition. After doing a clean install of Windows 7, that program has not been installed yet, so the recovery partition remains unhidden.
-
Since there is not an option for a 3D panel on the L502x like there is on the L702x, you cannot run 3D content. The L502x does output 3D through HDMI to a 3D-capable TV, though.
-
so can if i install this program it will get hidden.again?
also when i press f8 option for repair comes is.that.dell factory restore?
thanks for replying...btw -
Yes, when you install the program, the recovery partition will be hidden again. However, if you have already made recovery discs for your computer, you don't really need that program.
And yes, hitting F8 should give you an option to do Dell Factory Restore. -
Does anyone know if a 150w P/S is required for the XPS 15/i7/GT 540? I have a 130w from my old Studio XPS that I would prefer to use. The connection to the laptop fits tighter, and the PS itself is a little slimmer.
-
No, you should stick with the one Dell provided with the laptop. Any lower wattage, and the battery will charge more slowly and the performance will decrease. Any higher and there is a possibility that the extra ampage could fry the motherboard.
-
Dell specs a 130 W adapter for the XPS 15 with 540 graphics card.

can i delete recovery partition and get the image?
there is a recovery partition.on.mycomputer but not showing anything inside that drive though its.showing 4 gb occupied space
i cant format it hide delete it what can i do with it please help??? -
You can use the Dell DataSafe program to make recovery discs from the partition, but I would highly recommend not deleting the recovery partition (in case you lose the discs).
-
4 GB isn't much. My XPS 15 had a 19.3 GB Dell Recovery partition. Once you've installed applications and added your data, returning the drive to factory state isn't of great value. A more recent full disk image, using something like Acronis True Image, is more useful. If you do that, you can safely delete the Recovery partition to reclaim the space.
First, make Recovery media. I burned the Dell Recovery DVD-Rs and a Dell Recovery USB flash drive. I can always restore to factory state using either of those, so I then deleted the Recovery partition so I could make use of that 19.3 GB. -
thanks guys for replying...
my issue is i cant access the recovery using.f8 so there is no point of keeping this intact..if i keep it i want it disappeared in my computer...
how do i make image of dell recovery partition? -
Dell DataSafe
-
You can also use the Windows 7 "System Image" function to image your entire drive (all partitions) to an external drive/share.
It only does entire physical drives, not individual partitions.
But you can restore with just a normal Windows 7 system disc (or make an "emergency repair" disc).
-
so now i am gonna delete the dell partition and.take a backup.of it on a disc and after fresh.install all drivers i will.make a restore disc using other programs..
-
i pressed f8 at boot time and selected image recovery option but system couldnt find any image !!
is.recovery partition in my comp usable?
please advice i am just fed up of this recovery thing./. -
You've said that before. Have you yet done as we advised, and installed Dell DataSafe?
-
Can you upgrade the L502x to have a Blu-Ray drive later on if I opt to go with a non Blu-Ray drive?
-
It's a standard 12.7 mm slot, so yes, you could do that. If you don't need the BRD now, the question is if you ever will...
-
I posted this on a separate thread but no responses.
Does anyone else get a mild static feeling when their L502x is plugged into the mains when running their hand along the metal palm rest around the keyboard, or is it just me? -
I feel no such charge.
-
My L502X system that I just sent back to dell after months of back and forth with tech support had this symptom as well.
The main reason they finally agreed to replace my system was due to the system locking up when ever I had my system plugged in and I was using the Nvidia GPU for more than 15-45 minutes depending on load. It would not lock up when I was unplugged and would play fine until the battery ran out.
Sure enough I did have my palm rest feel static and even replacing the motherboard did not fix my problem. Not sure what in the construction caused my errors we replaced nearly every part of the system and it kept doing it now I have a replacement L702X system that works great. -
basic89, thanks for the update. I've got a Dell Engineer coming out tomorrow to replace the motherboard. I do not hold out much hope this is going to fix things.
They already sent a replacement power supply and that didn't help. -
I do as well, but only on battery, not when plugged in. And I dont think its static, I think its the HDD vibrating.
-
<Rolling eyes> There's a big difference between an electrical charge and the sensation of vibration caused by hard drive. Yet, it wouldn't surprise me if users confused the two.
-
Same score's but After updating my nvidia driver the first time it dropped to 4.8. And right now updated again, went down to 4.6. Annoying. Really.
-
It's definitely not the hard drive. When I put my hand on the metal case and ran my hand along, no static.
Anyway Dell engineer came out today to replace my motherboard and fried the computer - won't even turn on now.
Dell say they need to collect the laptop and may need it for.....14 DAYS....!!! -
has anyone tried the new nvidia 285.79 beta drivers yet
-
You need to ask for a replacement in my opinion.
My system had every part replaced and it still never worked. It has to be something with the construction and how the AC adapter runs power in. It took me months and having them replace nearly every part before they agreed to offer me a replacement though.
I just kept at it but when I finally got them to approve a replacement I asked for an upgrade and I did get the L702X system with similar specs but with the upgraded video card. I have heard some people who really make the case for the system replacements have received alienware 14x type models but don't give up if your system is not working they are required to fix it or replace it with equal or better system. -
I did its strangely a drop in FPS on my old GT540M video card it seems to be working fine on my GT550M video card so it depends on which card.
I had better performance with the 280.xx drivers when I was using my GT540M. -
So, this might be a bitty of a noob question but my laptop won't play Blu-ray on my (also new dell) fhd monitor. It'll play on the laptop screen but cuts out saying something about the HDCP. Tell me this is because of my HDMI cable I got in Chinatown and not that the monitor won't play blu-ray for some reason...?
-
Make sure the HDMI cable works with another Blu-ray player.
