Yes, as if the monitor is fhd it will play blu ray playback. Or try another hdmi cable.

Anyone have any issues with the DVD burner? It might have been the Memorex media, but when I was trying to help a buddy reinstall windows 7, I had to burn at 3x to get it to work without errors.

Through previous experience, I have found that Memorex media is generally poor quality. I usually use TDK.

There is some thing I don't understand about my XPS L502X...

I bought it with the FHD B+RGLED 1920 x 1080 display, but it doesn't provide a sharp image. By that I mean every thing displayed - graphics, icons, photos, etc are a bit soft. Not bad, but not razor sharp that I see on other laptops, some of lesser cost. I have the resolution set to 1920 x 1080.

I'm a bit disappointed. I expected much better after reading the many reviews about the display. BTW, I bought this display because I believed it would be great for viewing photos. I'm not much into videos.

Any one care to comment? Perhaps there's an adjustment or setting change to make?

There are a few color profiles floating around (I use the spyder 3 profile floating somewhere in this thread I believe), but I don't know what that will do for image sharpness. I never really notice any problems with it, and I use it to play games and movies. If it helps at all I don't need to use antialiasing in games (aka "jaggie" reduction for the non-gamer) because the pixel density is high enough.
A quantifiable or at least more qualifiable definition of what you are looking for would be useful.

When you go to Control Panel > Display, is your setting at 125% or 100%? If it's at 125%, try setting it to 100%. This should make everything sharper, although also smaller (if you have bad eye sight like me, it could make things hard to read).

Hook it up to a good set of external 2.1 speakers or headphones. I do this whenever I listen to music or watch videos or movies, and then turn off the Waves MaxxAudio3 enhancements because I don't like artificial enhancements.

Thanks, I tried that and things are smaller, but not sharper.

Could it be that a FHD B+RGLED 1920 x 1080 display main benefit is in video and movies, and not photo viewing and general pc use?

    Perhaps my expections are unrealistic?

Call Dell to replace it. My 1080p screen is razor sharp, for viewing photos and general use. I got it for editing my photos and it did not disappoint!

Could be. If you are comparing the screen to a fair quality IPS monitor, you will be somewhat disappointed of course. But compare it to *any* other TN notebook panel, and you will be very pleased.

Or it could mean that you have a bad monitor and you should get Dell to replace it. I have the 1080p panel, and this it the best laptop screen I have ever seen.

Does anyone here have problem in getting access to the Dell Driver and Download website?

I don't understand why my laptop is being uncapable of accessing to this site at the moment. When entering into this site, I've always received this notification: " Sorry, an error occurred while processing your request". Additionally, I can't chat with Dell support because of this error. This issue has lasted for over a month. Formerly I used to access this site normally.

I hope that everyone here can help me deal with this problem.

    Thank you so much!!!

I am not sure if I am reply on this properly but I read your post on your dell xps arriving without the WiFi, I had the same problem, and also the same problem of DELL so called CS, after a week of transfer, wrong areas, different attempts they made to fix it, needless to say it is still not working. However, unlike u I am not quite a novice but no where near an experienced hardware person and I dont know where or how to change or fix the wwireless card.....Feel silly even asking this but I just want to get this done already without calling DELL...

Wow I think I just messed up my reply, I was trying to say I had the same problem with my XPS laptop WiFi but the different is< I would not say I am a novice., however, if someone could just guide me to where it is located and it is difficult to replace, I dont have the bucks like most of us to take it somewhere and if I have to spend another day/ hours/ minute with DELL CS, I'm not sure I can be responsible for my behavior. Any help wouldbe very much appreciated........thanks in advance.........

I have a random problem. I have the Intel 1000 network card, and I can connect to my home Wi-Fi, as well as my grandparents' Wi-Fi. However, I cannot connect to the Wi-Fi at the local community college where I am taking classes. At first, I thought this was a problem with their Wi-Fi, but other students are able to use the Wi-Fi with their laptops with no problems.

    Any ideas?

6 Months Old L502X - 700GB Hard drive crash!! This really shocked me today. A couple hours after checking email I came back and the XPS 15 wouldn't boot, small grinding noises that grew very loud, very fast. Also had the tink clink sound like the arm of a hard drive banging around. Sounds like a cement mixer. I tried two more times real fast - then shut it down.

Now the pissed off part. I called XPS support. They wanted me to boot the PC to run diagnostics. I repeated numerous times there is no reason to boot, the noise is over the drive, not the fan, and on the opposite side of he DVD player. They insisted turning on the PC would not harm potential data loss. This is contrarty to everything every told - NEVER turn on your PC when drive failure is noticed.

    We hit a stalemate.
I would not power up the PC again - they would not set up a service ticket until diagnostics. I talked to 2 supevisors and it just got out of hand. They kept trying to insure me no data would be lost during a 7 minute diagnostic test. I blew up on the phone, talked about Data Doctors owner conversation I had a few years ago - never turn on the PC. It was easy for support to offer up my data, they have no skin in the game. Finally when I lost it and yelled that we were going in circles on a 20 year customer treating me as if I was to cheat them out of something - they set up the service ticket. What a pain in the butt, still a little shaken from their 80 minutes of contradictory speak

Flip the laptop over, and you'll see a square panel in the middle with three screws on the one side. Take out those 3 screws, pry up the panel, and you'll see if there is a wifi card in the slot or not.

After multiple months of excellent reliability, I am now getting BSOD's when I put the computer into sleep mode. The crashes have been happening since November 18th. The symptom is the screen goes black but all status lights stay on then after 10-15 minutes the system "Blue Screens" with the message:

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: ntoskrnl.exe

    DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

The drivers installed shortly before Nov 18th were:

    Nvidia Video Driver 285.62
    Nvidia HD Audio 1.2.24.0

I rolled back the Nvidia driver to 275.33, but that has not resolved the issue.

Can someone point me in the right direction to try to get to the bottom of this? Is there a way to roll the entire computer back to before November 18th to see if the problem goes away?

    Thanks in advance.

It does not void the warranty unless you managed to damage it during the installation process.

Thanks. That's my next step. I am going to wait until I get another crash. The crashes are intermittent. I have only 2 restore points 11/14 and 11/16 available before the crashes started.

Is there anyway to assure those restore points do not disappear over time?

I have lots of available disk space, but was surprised to see only three restore points when I clicked show more restores.

This will probably sound like a familiar scenario to some of you. Recently, I emailed Dell about my fan getting really loud and running at full tilt when doing simple things like web browsing. I wanted to know what kind of software solution there might be. I have read the forums on this topic and tried some fixes but nothing really changed it. The main goal in emailing Dell was to determine if it was just some kind of design flaw.

The support staff had me run some Dell Support Center diagnostics and so on and everything passed. Thus, they decided I needed a new heat sink and fan which I really thought was unnecessary since the laptop was not overheating it was just getting far too loud/annoying. The tech came today and was very nice, but he damaged the keyboard (some tabs are mangled and there is some flex in the palm rest now).

I just wanted to know if you guys have any suggestions about what to do next. Do you think I should email Dell about the damage? Or is it a minor enough thing where they wouldn't do anything to fix it? I've pretty much decided I won't be able to do anything to fix the fan noise. I would have been better off never emailing Dell I'm afraid.

    Thanks for any advice,

I think you should definitely e-mail Dell about the damage. Through my experience, the best form of communication with Dell is via the chat feature on their Support page. Then you don't have to wait for several hours for them to reply to an e-mail, and you don't have to try to understand a thick accent of someone who does not know English. (Wait times are still sometimes bad, depending upon the time of day, though).

Did the new fan and heatsink solve the problem?

Just received my dell xps 15 with this spec:

    i7-2670 QM
    8 GB dd3
    256 gb ssd
    9 cells battery

but i think a made a huge mistake..

    15.6'' wled (1366x768).

I read reviews after buying it, it was a good offer and.. well my fault.

Ups will be here december the 6th, to take it back. I want to upgrade my monitor.

I read very good thing on the fhd rgbled and very bad things on the hd wled.

I have to agree about one thing: hd wled has to be at least 1440x900 or a bit more.. i'm not blind and with small settings I see things very huge.. no way to improve it.

I'll order a new xps 15 with same specs but with the fhd rgbled monitor.. is this the right choice?

ps: sorry about my english.. not my mother tongue

ordered mine last week, still waiting...

    - i5 2430
    - 6GB 1333mhz RAM
    - 500GB HD 7200rpm
    - GT 525M 1GB
    - Blu-ray player
    - 15.6" Full hd display
    - Jbl 2.1 + Soundblaster

it was the most basic config i could get (i'm from Brasil), because every upgrade costs TOO MUCH. but i'm very happy with it.

things i have to do: format and do a clean windows install, install arch linux, check the GPU temps and see how much it will overclock, and maybe get a cooling base for it. i will post here the results of my tests.

I would agree with the 1080p screen is by far better than 1366x768. Although if you think about, it, ten years ago, most people got by with the standard 17-inch CRT monitors at 1024x768.

I had bad experience with Dell technician earlier. Dell technicians are just contracting technicians that work for dell. They are not employed by dell directly and hence are not trained very well and this kind of issues occur.

The only thing to get your system fixed is mail out your system to dell. Dell inhouse technicians will fix it properly and send it back to you.

In my case the technician messed up my system. I too thought i should have not called technician. I was lucky to retun since it was with in 15 days of purchase.

But in your case better option is to send to dell to fix.

My current xps 15 was having wifi issue and dell sent wifi card and techinician. I restored my system before technician came. Luckily that resolved the problem.

I sent the technician back without letting him open my computer.

I've had my xps 15 for about 2 months now, and I have to say that I have been having a lot of problems... First, they had to replace the heatsink, then the guys who replaced the heatsink managed to unplug the speakers... :/

now the battery icon - sometimes when doing heavy tasks like gaming - flashes orange. I have been googling around, and what i have come up with is that the battery's broken :S Should i call dell and ask for a new battery?

    Same thing happened to my previous computer;
Dell technician came to fix the tv tuner port, ended up breaking connection for one speaker, one wire of wifi card and could not close the system back properly leading to flex at palmrest.

siquardi--thanks for the advice. Dell called back once I explained the damage (and sent pics). They wanted to send another tech, I said I would prefer that they didn't. Now they say they will send a shipping box and have Dell techs do it. This sounds like the best option at this point. I'll send it in soon--I need the comp for work right now.

Is that just adding a game to the list of programs run by the nvidia processor? Not so much a gaming enhancer as a prerequisite for getting good performance in games.

    Hi,

I got my xps 15 today... Everything is fine except I am unable to turn on the Bluetooth... whenever I tried to turn on Bluetooth, it is giving me error saying that "cannot turn on bluetooth. Unable to find the hardware". I am able to see the Bluetooth device from Device Monitor. :S
Does anyone had this issue, if so did u found any solution.

    This is my Bluetooth spec --- Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 with Bluetooth v3.0+HS

    Thanks in Advance.

Try uninstalling the wireless driver and install them again. Those wireless cards both have bluetooth.
