Can anyone give some hint

I have a XPS15 with GT525m using the latest driver 295.73 now

I bought a new TV LG Lw5700 where a ta all quiet running via USB or DLNA.

Woe to connect the note to see MKV movies I have noticed very quickly while displaying a transparent horizontal stripes, but it bothers the movies to see.
But when trying to play PES2012 there it gets worse and much, down a sort of transparent horizontal screen full screen like a refresh.

I do not understand this as Input lag because I have no signal delay, which seems to be a failure of transmission of HDMI.

If anyone could understand, know where to move the program from Nvidia to get a better rate or something to solve this?

I'm 90% sure that is the note with bad driver because it had already seen this happen on my old TV about 2 months ago, but as the game just does not remember the driver version used and or corrected that version

I'm to buy XPS 15. There is a promotion (coupon) for 20% discount, but only specific model. There is an option to personalize it. I've made a configuration for about 1600$ with GF 540 +TV tuner, i7 quad, 8 GB Ram, 750 HD, bluray Reader, etc, but there is no option to change the keyboard, and the keyboard is without the backlit. It's important for me. I called Dell. They told me that theirs configuration tool doesn't allow to place a backlit keyboard in this model.

I saw backlit keyboards for around 50$ and the replacing is not so complicated. But there is a chance it doesn't has a connector for the backlit. So my question is, anyone has done such an operation or knows if all motherboards are the same ?

 

It sounds like a bad HDMI cable. Try another cable or hook up another source to see if it has the same problem. If the other cable works, then it is a problem with the original cable. If the other source works, then there is something wrong with your computer. If not, there is a problem with the TV.

 

swapping out keyboards should work because there is only 1 connector cable in both keyboards, also I've seen threads here about doing that

My concern is if all motherboards has these two connectors...

Yes, the backlit one has two cables and yes, it will work ok as all XPS 15 models have the two onboard connectors.

Im use 3 differents HDMI cables, with differents sizes and the problem persist.

In other times i have same problem but with on driver update the problem solve.

But today i dont remember wich Driver i use....

I try change same configurations in Nvida Painel but not represent same better

I don't know if this was ever an issue or a query. But for the record pc-12800 works perfectly with the 2630QM @ 800mhz. I just installed x2 4gb modules and they worked no hassle.

 

Can anyone confirm if the samsung 830 SSD works in the L502X ?

 

Samsung 830 SSD works great and have with 16gb system RAM also.

stress it for a long period playing crysis 2 on 1366x768 reso on high
[lowest in game ] for about 2 hour temperature peak at 95 c for both mainboard and cpu no noticible performance drop in game while the nvdia graphic run bit cooler peak out at 84 everage 80 - 90 for mainboard and cpu is this even normal?

 

The 16gb RAM is self upgrade using crucial sticks. There are several posts throughout the thread despite Dell spec stated limited to 8gb. Runs better than fine with 16gb RAM. Love my Samsung 830 SSD but you pay bit more in comparative pricing to others currently.

I got the i7 2760qm/8gb/intel 1000/540/standard kb/1080pfhd/1tb/xfi/BRP

paid 1200 OTD from dell.com

Just some thoughts. I do lots of video editing/compositing so I needed the faster processor with more cache. I installed Adobe MC 5.5 in about 18 minutes from usb HD. Not too shabby. I copied 32.6 GB worth of video files at sustained 60 MB/s with bursts up to 90 from a usb 3.0 drive. I disabled all monitoring software, no fan problems here. Screen is awesome, but I haven't calibrated it yet. I will do so shortly with a spyder and see where I'm at. Gonna swap out the BlueRay for a caddy eventually and shove an SSD in the main space. I'm not a big gamer, but I figured I'll install Civ5 and jam for a minute and see how it goes. So far so good. I actually like the standard keyboard because I can't stand the lights in the dark. I know how to type and where all the keys are. Wireless card seems to be fine. No need to have super fast network speeds, only have 20 mbit hsi here and 10/100 does just fine at streaming. No bends, creaks or flex in anything.

Just thought I'd stop in. 7 days from ordering to receiving. Happy so far, dont break please.

Hey just wondering if anybody has modded the quickset program or the bios to allow F1-F6 to operate as function keys and F7-F12 to operate as media keys yet?

That would be awsom and would round off the perfect laptop for me

I just made sure that function key first is selected in quickset, then mapped F8-F12 to back, play/pause, forward, vol up and vol down.

This program edits the registry so make a backup/create a restore point befrore you start and USE AT YOUR OWN RISK

i need to dual boot windows7 and windows 8 CP on my dell xps15.i formatted a drive and tried installing in that but an error popped while selecting drive for windows install"windows cannot be installed on this disk space it may contain one or more dynamic volumes" in all drives its giving this error except the drive in which windows7 has been installed...i dont want to remove windows7 and install win8 there So please suggest a way out doing this...i have been dual booting for so long on my desktop but never faced such issues before....is this i am alone facing this with xps 15?

 

Some external drives won't work when connected to the USB 3.0 port, only to the USB 2.0 port.

For example, a Western Digital My Book drive, perhaps 4 years old. When connected to one of the XPS 15's two USB 3.0 ports, the drive never mounts. It does appear when I click the "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media" systray icon, but the drive itself never mounts and is not accessible. It does not appear as an available drive in "Computer" or Windows Explorer.

However, the same drive works normally when connected to the USB 2.0 port.

Is this a problem with the XPS 15's two USB 3.0 ports, or some driver issue related to those ports, or a driver issue related to the external drive?

 

There are some new drivers added on the 23/02 in the download section under chipset. I have a mybook as well as a modern 3.0 drive and both work fine on my system. I have however always kept my drivers up to date.

 

You mean on Dell's downloads? I'll try those.

I have USB 3.0 drives that work fine, and other older 2.0 drives. Just this particular My Book won't work in the USB 3.0 ports, only in the 2.0. Curious.

 

It's an issue on your external drive ...

Try opening up Disk management and change the assigned drive letter of the external drive to something else.

 

Just recently recieved my XPS 15. I updated the graphics drivers, but for some reason my screen won't allow me to adjust to 1080p resolution. Dell's tech support is completely fubar'd atm. Another issue I'm having is it appears my wireless adapter isn't using 802.11n, I checked the drivers for my wireless card and it says they are up to date as well. Any suggestions?

UPDATE: Finally got a hold of tech support today, relatively good experience. Although after taking over my system the only solution was to roll back my video drivers...but whatever. It appears that they shipped the wrong screen with my system, tech is being sent out next week to replace it. Still haven't resolved the wireless issue, but that could easily be a problem with my router also.

 

I noticed yesterday that my xps 15 was running a little hot even when doing nothing, then noticed that the air intake was very weak compared to before. I tried blowing the dust off but it didnt make much improvement.
My idle temps are GPU: 48C, HD0: 39C, Temp1: 54C, Temp2: 54C, Cores 0-3 52-54C. The fan isnt spinning but comes on for a little bit then goes off every 5 mins.
Is there anything i can do which doesnt include taking the machine apart and taking the mesh out or something?

By the way, in case is interested, I used Dell Chat to ask them to send me discs of the software that was preinstalled on my computer (I wanted to wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows).

After confirming that my recovery partition wasn't working, Dell agreed to send me the discs free of charge.

In fact, I received the discs the next day. Furthermore, they included the face detection software, as well as the full version of Roxio Creator 2011 that were both originally not on my system.

 

Which bios version are you people using ? , is the latest bios the best one ?
i have no isues , everything runs smooth cool and fast , i just like to have the latest drivers and bios ( i know reflashing bios is little bit risky and not really recommendet if no issues , i am just wondering which version is the most popular on here )

 

Hi I've been considering buying the xps 15. All the reviews have been really positive. Anyone know if Dell will be updating the xps 15 soon? I ask because approximately one year ago they updated it with snb processors. Thanks!

 

They will most likely update the XPS 15 again, but probably not until Intel's new line of processors come out. The date for that has not been announced yet, but they should come out some time in the next three or four months.

 

I bought my XPS 15 L502x on 3/29/2011 ... It had the fan spinning constantly but I didn't really care. After 11 months, I gave it a thought and said why should I compromise? Initiated tech support call to Dell on 2/8/2012 and went through 2 DOA exchanges(first one's fan was even worse than my original one, second one had yellow tint on the screen). Escalated to the dell resolution team and spoke to bunch of support members and nobody could promise me that the 3rd replacement will not have any issues out of the box and all of them acted like they are doing me a favor by allowing me to exchange laptop. One guy actually told me this will be my last exchange and if it has any problems, they will only send onsite technician for parts repair until the problem is fixed. I got pissed and wrote a 3 page email to their entire Dell executive team(got email id's from consumerist) .. took less than a week for someone from Dell executive team escalations to call me and offer me a brand new built laptop. I just got an email today 3/6 that the laptop has been ordered and it should arrive in a week.

For my original laptop, the part number for XPS 15 was 225-0675 but for the exchange order the part number for XPS 15 is showing as 225-2660. All other part numbers seem to match. Was there a revision to L502x recently? Anybody observed this?

I've been getting regular shutdowns when watching video over HDMI, it happens with WMP and VLC and I have used dell drivers, Nvidia beta and official release drivers from 260 up to 290 and it still happens. The system will freeze with a loud stuttering sound, then shut down at least once every time I watch a movie over HDMI on my TV. I very rarely get shutdowns when playing games, but almost everytime I watch a movie.

Is this happening to anyone else or is it just me? It's driving me mad. Any suggestions?

I bought a XPS15 about a year ago (i7-2630QM, FHD, HDD) and I've had problems off and on with Windows 7 crashing while the laptop is in sleep mode. It happens about once every 2 weeks. When I check the reliability history app, it says "windows shut down improperly" or "windows stopped working unexpectedly". This is during the middle of the night when the computer isn't being used... I have Windows check for a solution, but it doesn't find one. I don't have any out-of-the-ordinary apps installed.

Has anyone else experienced this? (I tried to use the Search Thread feature, even when I type in a string I know occurs in many posts, it doesn't find any.) I know I can call Dell support, but that's such a disheartening proposition, that I figured I'd try the forum first.

Based on reading the XPS13 thread a bit, it sounds like there's no fix to the fan issue of its either being off, on 50% or on 100%. It's not a big deal but I can imagine a more elegant solution...

Is it on battery power at that time? I find that leaving my XPS 15 in sleep mode, on battery, overnight (about 9 hours) uses 24% of battery capacity of my 6-cell battery.

So, if battery charge level was at 20% before putting it to sleep for the night, by morning presumably mine would also be dead and after rebooting on AC power I'm sure it too would report improper shutdown.

 

I remember having issues when it was set to hibernate at low power, once I turned it off and set to sleep, no more problems.

 

Not overheating, temps stay around 60C when watching video over HDMI and that's when 95% oof the shutdowns happen!!

 

Try this.

Remove and gently clean the memory modules connection with isopropyl alcohol. And re-install the modules. Memory incorrectly installed often leads random crashes.

 

UPDATE 2.0: Dell tech came after 3 days to fix the screen. Installation went smoothly except for putting the bezel back on. One of the snaps on the bottom of the bezel snapped off (seriously who designs this crap). The tech informed me that usually the screens ship with a new bezel, this one didn't. He says he can put in the order for me, but technically the bezel wasn't covered under my warranty (what?). I didn't argue it because I leave to go back to school over the weekend. The new bezel arrived today (over night shipping) and I put the new one on myself, cracking the old one in the process. I thought I was gentle, but apparently not. The new one went on fine, save for a couple tiny scratches on the lid. Not really impressed that I had to put it on myself, but overall the tech support has been pretty snappy.

 

If memory issues are suspected, run memtest. Cleaning with alcohol would not fix defective memory; it would just clean the connections.

 

Memtest may not detect it.

I have had this same issue on a previous x60 tablet and ran into the same issue with random reboots on my current L502x.

There may be nothing wrong with the memory modules or the memory slots, and simply about how it was position or perhaps dirt or debris interfering with the connection.

I fixed the issue with my current L502x and the x60 tablet (after running overnight memtest with no errors) simply by cleaning and re-positioning the modules. The x60 tablet is still chugging with no issue for over 4years and the L502x is flawless.

"Sleep" crashing points mostly to memory issues since windows sleep by putting data into memory.

Give it a try and post back results.

In regards to the fan issue, I posted a fix (work around) in one of the threads.

 

Thanks, all! This forum is the best. I downloaded memtest, but I haven't done the overnight scan yet. Just lazy... Naively, I'd think that a memory problem would show up while running apps as well, which I never have, but you have the experience, so I'll follow your suggestion.

I actually called Dell support because I was having another problem where my power supply was making strange "sparking" sounds. The guy was surprisingly helpful and sent me a new brick with very little haranguing on my part. He said that sleep-crash problems can sometimes be a result of power supply issues. We'll see. He also sent OS re-install discs and driver discs, though I don't really want to do that unless nothing else works.

I did install the new BIOS (from 23 Feb, I think) and the fan situation seems to be better, but it could be my imagination.

i was just wondering why it always says " No webcam driver detected. Please install the webcam driver using the Dell Resource CD and Launch web Cam Center again" when i try to use Dell Webcam Center ?

you need to find the older version of Dell Webcam center. The new one won't detect it

 

My power supply randomly makes weird noises as well. I think I have the 130 watt instead of the 90 watt, even though I only have a Gt525m.

 

Can't wait for mine to come in. EDD is 21st but hoping it will be sooner than that.

 

^^^ I've seen cases of five calendar days from order to delivery. So, yours may arrive earlier than projected.
