Thanks. I had just ordered one from screencountry.com that says it's 100% compatible with B156HW01 v7. We will see. I also purchased the ribbon cable from dell tonight. I'm betting on you guys.

What vendor is this? Are you sure this isn't the 720p screen?

I got my LG 1080p for $150 shipped (Matte).

    GM6 LVDS HD
    DD0GM6LC240

I want to upgrade for 1080p and backlit keyboard, but and i don't know where i can buy the ribbon cable and keyboard here (spain). Sorry for my bad english.

    Welcome To Taiwan Screen Optronics

It's the 1080P, an EXACT part # match. Warranty is 90 days through Taiwan Screens.

I've been speaking with a spokesman for the business and it's a exact part replacement, not a compatible screen.

Thanks for the link. I will go with this one if I have to return my original one for whatver reason. Btw, how long is shipping with Taiwan Screens?

My ribbon has been pushed back to the 21st for delivery so I may not be the first one to report whether this fixes the issue.

    Nope:

    B156HW01 V.0 - glossy - 60.51% color gamut
    B156HW01 V.1 - matte - 60.51% color gamut
    B156HW01 V.4 - matte - 94.42% color gamut
    B156HW01 V.7 - glossy - 95.05% color gamut

    More info here

The website you looked at is probably just copying info from another source and didn't fact check it. It wouldn't buy from them as its probably not the actually screen but a compatible one.

Just got my cable in from dell and it matches the info on page 2. My screen should be in tomorrow, and I'll perform the surgery this weekend. That is if the screen they send me is a decent one and not a pos "compatible" like I think they are sending.

If its compatible, you will probably get the V.0 or V.1 screen with the 60% color gamut. I took a few days to find a seller for my V.4 screen, but I could verify they were sending this one and not a compatible screen.

The V.0 and V.1 use a blue LED with yellow phosphor, where as the V.4 and V.7 use a blue LED with Red and Green phosphor. using B+RGLED gets a "fuller" NTSC color spectrum (95%).

My question is: How much better is the actual V.4 and V.7 vs. the V.0 and V.1? I'm not necessarily looking for the absolute best looking screen. I'm mainly upgrading for the resolution, so as long as this "compatible" screen looks as good as my 720p with higher resolution, I think I will be fine with it. It would be a hassle in time and cost to return this one and find another real V.7

The Taiwan screens distributor is selling the v.7, an EXACT identical replacement. They sent me a PDF Spec sheet from AUO thats bout 40 pages long and the at the Detailed Specs it sums the color percentage as 95%, this is indeed a matching EXACT screen that Dell uses. I'm ordering it for $90 and the shipping is $85 for UPS ( I DO NOT TRUST DHL or USPS with an LCD).

Total costs is gonna be $175 for the V.7 LCD that Dell charges $360 for and the kicker is the screen itself is only $90 ! ! !

The V.0 and V.1 are the same, except that the V.0 is glossy and V.1 is matte.
Same with the V.4 and V.7, V.4 is matte and V.7 is glossy.

The difference is how the colors are displayed. The V.0 and V.1 should be sufficient for daily use. Designers need good color reproduction so what they see on screen is what it will look like when its printed out. This is what V.4 and V.7 has over the other two.

Price about the same here, I bought my screen for $150 each + $25 shipping.

Thanks for the info. I only wish someone would have said this a couple of pages ago before I bought my "compatible" screen. I should find out tomorrow just what I'm getting. It's like christmas; you're getting something, but it's probably not what you want.

This seems like the best bet to get the right screen. I feel like ordering from them will get you the actual screen that dell used in the laptop. How do you go about ordering from them?? It seems like they would only want to fill large orders. Will they sell just one screen? Their website confuses me...

The extra steps just removing the palm rest and the keyboard. Here are the instructions.

Most people don't follow it exactly as we can remove the bezel without removing the whole display from the base. I'm getting my ribbons tonight so I'll be taking pics of the whole process.

Okay, just received my panel from www. screencountry .com and they sent me the LG LP156WF1 (TL) (B1) panel. Not too happy, and they didn't even send me the return sticker I paid for in case there was a problem. They have no phone number and any questions/problems have to be sent through their ticket system. Don't order from them.

Who has the contact info for the twscreen.com and how can I order one?

Okay, I can confirm that using the Dell part # V73D3 cable and my LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) works right out of the box. It automatically set the screen resolution to 1920 x 1080 on boot-up.

This link was broken. Dell must have moved the info around.
    Documentation Here is the manual.

I think I am going to order the v. 7 from that Taiwan website. I hope that the info that you guys have been gathering is correct and this is the EXACT model that dell used. Thanks for all the great work and info everyone. And posting pictures of the process would be awesome.

This is about the only good picture I could get due to the glossy screen. It looks much more clear in person, but you get the idea of the size of icons and such. Remember, this is the crappy LG screen too, and not the B+RGLED screen I still may get soon.

I was just thinking...I order the v. 7 screen and get the ribbon and everything goes perfect. Get it installed and do no damage to the computer in the process. Now say 5 months from now something happens to my computer and I have to send my laptop in for warranty service. What if they send me a different laptop back!! i will have lost my v.7 1080p screen!! I guess if I have to send it in for repair or something I will just take the screen out and put the old one back in.

You should never have to send it back in. They should send a tech out to replace any hardware that may have gone bad. Besides, after doing it once, I can probably swap screens in 20 min., and remember you now have a backup in case your new screen messes up or gets cracked.

Btw dell site finally has the 1080p screen in stock and allows the upgrade for $150 straight up when first buying the laptop.

I your guys opinion what is better, the glossy or the matte? I am having trouble getting a response from the Taiwan website and might just order the v.4 from somewhere else. Would the v.7 glossy be better?? Should I wait until I can get that one?

I personally dislike glossy, there is too much reflection on the screen. With my matte screen (v.4), the colors are vibrant and viewing angles are very good.

The v.4 and the v.7 are the same screen except that the v.7 has a gloss coat on it.

just wanted to say thanks for all the info. You guys helped a lot. I ordered the cable for mine from dell spare parts and i wanted to let you know not to give up. It took 5 calls and FINALLY a rep pulled up the part with no problem and sold it to me for $11.99. I had the first rep hang up on me cause he couldn't find it, the second rep honestly I think my cell phone dropped the call (LOL) the third rep wanted to sell me a LCD ribbon and wiring kit for 36.00 then hung up when I insisted on just the ribbon cable then the 4th rep got the same kit and again refused to let me get just the cable. After asking for a supervisor he hung up on me. The last rep got the part right away and placed the order no problem. came to just under 20.00 shipped and will have it by Wednesday. Crazy but be persistent and you can get it. Now I need to decide what screen I want glossy or not!

For everyone else, I think Matte is better, but that's just preference.

So I cannot find a v.4 screen anywhere. Apparently they are discontinued. The entire line of b156hw01 screens are discontinued and will be replaced by the b156hw02 line which are only 60% gamut. This blows.

Does anyone know of any other high gamut screens that would be compatible with the L501x? Like 95% like the v.4 and v.7 were.

I found this but the description says that it won't work in a dell for some reason. What do you guys think.

"bumblesale : This screen will only work in a Dell laptop if it is in a Dell category in the shop, or has Dell in the Title. Dell screens can not be identified by the oem part number, as Dell modify the screen after production. They add a code to allow it to work in the Dell laptop."

To the best of my knowledge, no. Almost all screens these days are standard UPnP monitors. There are already three or four screens that have been swapped out that were not factory dell screens. You can't just buy any screen, but you can buy a "compatible", which is what I did.

I can't speak English very well so i can't order one from the phone number that you are ordering the part. Somebody here will order two cables, one for me? I'll be gratefully and pay for it.

The dell US site just updated the XPS 15 with the new processors and a new GPU and stuff so I am canceling my current XPS 15 and going to reorder one with the 1080 screen already in it. I have already paid for and ordered the cable from dell.... I will send you mine when I get it. I'll PM you when I get the ribbon and you can give me your info and I'll send it to you for only a few dollars extra. You have paypal??

This information may have been posted but I figured I would summarize it since I have been on the phone / chat with dell for the past couple weeks as a part time job since they screwed up my order. Dell wanted me to send back my laptop and received a refund and re-order the computer. Problem was they would not honor the sale price I was originally given which got me

    Core i7 Q740
    Gefore GT 435M 2B
    8GB Ram
    750 GB HDD
    Backlit Keyboard
    Built-in Bluetooth
for $1089 (through my company), which was a good deal I believe, only problem was the guy who took my order mistaken FULL HD with HD and I got the HD display.

I have no problem at all paying the $140-195 upgrade price which is what I should have paid at the time of order, but if I return it I can't get anywhere close to my same configuration for the price.

Now that we can excuse my rambling here is the information I got from a sales rep.

X7C4C ($364.99) - Full HD Kit (Includes cable and Display) The guy says these are out of stock
KYYVK ($354.99) - Full HD Display only (He said the part number in his system is AU Optronics B156HW01 V.4)
V73D3 ($11.99) - Display cable for the FHD display

With this said, does anyone have a good source for purchasing the AU Optronics B156HW01 V.4 display panels? I ordered 2 of the display cables because they were $11 plus $9 for shipping so I figured why the heck not.

I tried for a while to order the v.4 screen. I didn't have any luck at all. From what I gather the entire line of AUO B156HW01 screens are no longer being made and are getting ready to be replaced by the AUO B156HW02 version that are not the high NTSC gamut rating like the 01 series. I got this information from someone at MythLogic while trying to see if they had the screens in stock. So good luck finding one and be careful because most of these sites online like lcds4less, nbkit, and tons of others will have the v.4 screen on their website and the website will tell you its in stock but if you order you will probably just a get a compatible one.

A side note: I am confused that the Dell rep told you that the screen they would use as a replacement is the v.4. I thought they used the glossy v.7. Maybe the L502x will have the matte v.4 screen in it...

There are some sellers in ebay that say that they have the B156HW01 V4 screens. Have anyone of you had any experience with any of them?

Just to say that my cable arrived, and yes it is £67 + for just a ribbon cable in the UK!!!!
Anyway, it works perfectly with my v0 panel, so I am actually pleased!

I was thinking of ordering one off of ebay. I am apprehensive though, All I have seen state that there is a 3-5 dead pixel acceptability which I am not okay with. And some state they offer compatible displays to offer lower prices.

It's AU Optronics, not AUO Optronics. The "AU" refers to the fact it is an Australian company.
