It would be nice if people start posting his/her experience with a particular seller in ebay, for uk, us and any other ebay version.

I personally stay away from ebay for LCD screens. These L501x screens are the same model (but different versions) from the Sager/Clevo laptops. There are a few sellers of these laptops that post here and I would recommend contacting them for the screen. I personally got the v4 screen from MythLogic and its the best screen I've seen yet.

MythLogic says that they don't have stock for V4 screens and they will be replaced by another model, so it looks like we have to turn up to ebay sellers. Some ebay sellers specifies the version number in the description. But I'd like to know if someone already had the experience that can be shared with us.

Careful... Here is my question and response:

    Hi,
I just want to confirm that this the EXACT model, B156HW01 V.4, as stated in the auction title. I am not interested in a compatible model. Thank you.

    - thlrdeye

    Hello

We have that exact part but with V1 and it will work fine.

    Kind Regards
    Tracy

    - bumblesale

It's incredibly shady of these sellers to subtly mention that the screen is either "compatible" or reassure you that it is the "EXACT" part # (in their listing title AND response) and fail to mention a different version from the one they have listed. I have asked just about every seller on ebay and the response has been "compatible" or the same AUO part# but different version # or no reply at all. Bottom line... if you don't already have a V.4, you're out of luck.

Now... the question is, will the new part # AUO B156HW02 be backwards compatible with B156HW01? And will there be a comparable V.4 model? If yes, then we'll just have to wait... unless you want to settle for a V.1 (which is still excellent IMO) or go gloss with V.7 (and add anti-glare film???)

Does anyone know if there's a 1920 x 1200 screen available in the correct physical dimensions that the connecting cable will work with?

DONT order from brandnewlcds in new jersey. they advert'd a B156HW01 v.4 and sent me an LG LP156 instead.

it is DEFINITELY not as good as the HW01 v.7 that got broken that came with the laptop!

what do you think will be the best compatible screen that we can buy apart of B156HW01 V4 and V7?
I think if we do not found a seller for those parts we have to see another screen part with the same quality. I hope you can understand me I don't speak english natively.

You can buy the exact screen dell uses from twscreen . com. I had the purchase order set up to buy and then the L502x's came out that day so I didn't buy from them but they are the only vendor I know of that sells that screen. The price is $90 USD + shipping, which here in the USA would total about $175 USD through UPS ground. Look for a link or contact to a lady named Helen. She helped me out with the whole process.

How did you pay them? I could see somewhere in the website that they use wire-transfers. Hope that they accept something else.

It might just be me getting old, but the V.0 screen I bought from a China based seller on ebay seems really really good. Its glossy, the colours seem vibrant and well saturated, and it cost £71. Thats only about £6 more than Dell charged me for the cable. I dont know if the seller has any more but his ebay id was vectusllc.

The screen ships from Taiwan. Email [email protected] and she will help you out with the whole process. She doesn't type the best English, but you can understand what she means. Once she sets the order up, she will send you all the info you need ( a PI invoice) to wire the money (T/T) to their bank. At the same time they are getting your order ready to ship. Once they receive the money, they ship it out immediately.

Thanks for the info. I've already contacted her.

Now I only need to confirm that I can find the ribbon cable (0V73D3).

Do any of you guys who live in the US have a spare cable that can send to me? I don't live in US but you can send the cable to an address in Miami and they will make sure it gets to me. I could pay by paypal the cost + shipping + a little extra + my endless gratitude.

    Cheers!

Remember, you have to call Dell and ask to speak to the "spare parts" department. That's the only way us here in the USA were able to order it. If they knew we were buying it to upgrade the screen they wouldn't sell it, so don't disclose that info. Just say it's a ribbon cable that broke and you need another one.

Well... I've been talking today with the person from Dell parts for Latinoamerica. Just as I expected, he couldn't help me. At first he didn't know what I was asking him for, despite the fact that I included the part number and description. Anyway I cleared that up and he just replied some minutes ago that "We don't have that cable in our warehouse, please call back in one month" (...)

I was almost ready to order the screen from TWSCREEN.com but I have to hold up until I'm sure that I will have the ribbon cable. Like I said before, it would be great if any of you could order the cable for me and ship it to Miami. I could pay you using paypal.

    Hi everyone,

I am an XPS17 owner and I notice you are having issues trying to source genuine AUO screens.

As it happens, I have been helping out XPS17 owners to get hold of the B173HW01 V4 model on the XPS17 thread ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...xps-17-l701x-screen-thread-8.html#post7020061) and I am 100% aware of the shady practice of eBay/other LCD sellers.

Please note, this is not intended to be a commercial posting, I am a forum member and XPS17 owner and would like to help you guys out if I can. Please drop me an email at [email protected] and I will send you details.

    Thanks
    Lee

I got the LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) and I think it looks great. The viewing angles are much improved over the stock 720p and I'm loving the matte finish. I have not seen the stock 1080p LCD to compare to but I am very happy with mine

Try emailing Helen: [email protected]. They look like a serious and specialized company from Taiwan and they sell the B156HW01 V.7 model (the original glossy one from Dell). She did even send me a picture of the screen with the label that stated the part number.

They accept payments by wire-transfer or western union (165 USD including shipping to Colombia). I'm gonna place my order on monday if everything's ok.

Yea i did it a few days ago, i asked her for the screen cost shipped to spain but she doesn't reply me for now, i'm still waiting. I asked other sellers too and they send compatible one or they didn't have in stock.

    - Shine Star Electronic Technology Co.,Ltd they send me a mail with this info: laptop lcd screen panel B156HW01 V4 (condition: original new & grade A+)
Unit price EX-Works: USD86.50/pc based on 20pcs. Shipping cost depend on order quantity and shipping address.

But i asked to buy one! It seems they only sells for distributors companys.

    - mitloghic says this: I'm actually out of stock of both those parts, and they are no longer being made any more, so I can't sell one to you.

    sorry about that

So i'm waiting for twscreen.com reply.

    Hi all,

For anyone looking to upgrade their screen and obtain th FHD cable, I can confirm I can now get hold of both. This is the exact same cable that Dell use.

I am based in the UK, so this might satisfy European forum members more, although if guys in the US want to get in touch, that's no problem.

Please email at: [email protected] and I will give you all the details.

    Thanks
    Lee

Ps. I have a spec for the cable with me if anyone wants it, just to prove that it's the genuine article I have got hold of. Cheers

I decided on just keeping the LG screen I got.. I managed to compare it to the 720p 15.6" screen (on an inspiron 15R, same screen as the 720p XPS though, I'd imagine)

I wasn't able to source a v.4 and thats what I really wanted anyway.

Hi all, I've been watching this thread for over a month now and must say that the information learned has been invaluable. I want to thank Chanman for his excellent screen swap tutorial and everyone else who has contributed.

I've had my 740QM XPS15 for about 2 months now, and I love everything about it except for the damn screen. I can't believe Dell put such a garbage screen in otherwise such a nice laptop. Luckily for me I found this informative thread. Presently I'm still waiting on my cable from Dell, so I haven't been able to do the swap yet. I got my B156HW01 V.7 Screens ridiculously fast dealing with Helen at TWscreens.... It only took 2 Days after wiring the money to get from Taiwan to the U.S.... Crazy fast.

I originally was only going to order one panel, but shipping was going to be $55 and coupled with the $35 bank charge for a wiring fee, I just had a hard time paying $180 for one panel.... so for an additional $25 in shipping I decided to order 4 and just sell the other 3 on Ebay to help defer the cost. It was a real leap of faith wiring all that money to someone I'd never dealt with before, but TWscreens really came through. Now I just wish Dell would hurry up with the damn cable. Thanks again everybody!

You might want to post the link to those eBay listings here, when you list them. Not necessarily to advertise, but to give people here an option other than ordering from Taiwan that guarantees they get the v.7

...with the added benefit that you'll probably end up selling them faster

Well, advertising itself is against the rules, but in this case I'm guessing it'd be no different than what they're doing in this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...et-line-xps-17-l701x-hd-screen-order-u-s.html

Again, this is just my personal judgement. I'm not 100% sure what does and doesn't fall within the rules regarding advertising.
