    Hey guys,
Do you know if this 1TB WD scorpio fits into ours beasts? Western Digital Ships First 1 TB 2.5-inch HDD . It's a little bit thicker than regular 2.5 inch drive. I'm considering doing a custom performance+space setup ;) by buying this 1TB drive + micron realssd harddrive [over 300MB/s seq. read speed (so max. for SATA 2 :D) and 200MB sew. write spead] making my beast super fast with a lot of space :D.

ill give these a shot now, nothing has worked it isn't even detecting my physx card eventhough its installed in device manager. Still no dice with 186.12, i'm almost certain its software. I wonder if there is a particular order. I'm gonna wipe everything and follow this order and drivers before i completely freak out lol http://www.psilo.be/

    Hi guys,
I started worry about my beast :(. Don't know what causes this, but it seems like it's only on web browser streams. I don't have any artefacts in my hd/dvd movies yet. Should I start crying?

    Hey guys, two questions.

    1) Anyone have that problem in StarCraft 2 where when you select a Pylon (playing as Protoss, obviously) and there's a sudden and severe drop in fps when the glowing grid pops up?

    2) What are the latest Nvidia drivers that are safe to use? I'm still on 190.40.

You guys STILL have m1730's????? Damnnnn. You need to hop on board for an m17x. It's better in ways you cannot fathom unless you have it in front of you.

The M1730 can still run most games pretty well. I owe that to the console life cycles. :) Game developers aren't making games that need anything better than an Xbox 360 to run, not until the next generation of consoles. I'm surprised this laptop is still relevant 2-3 years later. I remember how PCs would go out of date within months before the console takeover of the gaming industry.

I have both in front of me and i love them both equally :)

Sure, the M1730 is older, but it copes perfectly with everything i throw at it.
I have recently put a X25-M 160GB SSD in it and it just flies!
I don't know, it just got style or something :D

Also, there have been talks about bad LCD screens on the M1730, i recently replaced my old one with a samsung LCD and it's excellent.

Is it normal for M1730 not having options on navtive rasolution on external monitor on battery?

My GPU may be crapping out too then.

It wouldn't do any resolution higher than 1200 by 800 on my 3007 wfp monitor.

Ya my m1730 is basically my desktop, plugged in and used the monitor 24/7, external monitor only.

I had to press power button to shut it down last nite, and when it rebooted, it was running on battery, and I noticed the brick light was off/dead, and I wasn't able to make the monitor's LCD display on it's native resolution.

It's tough to get used to darn M11x's tiny screen atm@!@@@!!

brick is bricked ( :) sorry, couldn't help it ) for sure if the blue light is off..
video card might follow, but i would test with a new brick before deciding..
Are you still under warranty ?

Worst part of it was it was right after I installed Starcraft II, and crapped out when I pressed "launch" on the first mission lol. I wanted to see how well M1730 handled it, but now I have to wait lol.

The game runs suprisingly well on M11x R2 btw, mostly at high settings, single player campaigns.

Not inside, but what I can see from outside, I cleaned them out. The temps used to be under 75C on load when I first had the system - When the 8800's just came out x).

Doesn't matter if they have 8700 or not, I have 8800M GTX and (if) it dies, they should give me an identical/better system (or my money). :D

Also, you guys realize you can likely fix all those 8800s by baking them in the oven?

I've opened mine a few times and there was actually very little dust inside. It all accumulated in the fans which you can clean out with a can of compressed air.

    not the experience i had.
When i opened mine for the first time after about a year, it had huge bunnies between the fan and the heatsink fins.

as a rule of thumb - if you see your temps climbing, you have to open it and clean the dust.

I just received my Dell XPS m1730 and wow i love it.
I have X7900 cpu running at 2.8ghz (not overclocked) and 8700sli cards.
Temps of cards are between 69 & 70c idling in windows is this about right?
and when cpu overclocked a low 45C.
Going to install SSD Drive & 750gb HDD hopefully to get some better READ/Write Rates.

no no, it'll be AW, but with a better spec :)
thing is, i buy my stuff in US import it to Israel, use it for a while, and then resell it for the same or better price than what i bought it for.
Then, i just buy the newer model.
Right now i have the AW with 4870 CF video cards, and i will be buying the new one with 5870 CF which are faster or i wait for a refresh, didn't decide yet :)
