Yeah, I'd say it's your best case scenario..

Hey guys,
Do you know if this 1TB WD scorpio fits into ours beasts? Western Digital Ships First 1 TB 2.5-inch HDD . It's a little bit thicker than regular 2.5 inch drive. I'm considering doing a custom performance+space setup
by buying this 1TB drive + micron realssd harddrive [over 300MB/s seq. read speed (so max. for SATA 2
) and 200MB sew. write spead] making my beast super fast with a lot of space
.
-
ill give these a shot now, nothing has worked it isn't even detecting my physx card eventhough its installed in device manager. Still no dice with 186.12, i'm almost certain its software. I wonder if there is a particular order. I'm gonna wipe everything and follow this order and drivers before i completely freak out lol http://www.psilo.be/

Hi guys,
I started worry about my beast
. Don't know what causes this, but it seems like it's only on web browser streams. I don't have any artefacts in my hd/dvd movies yet. Should I start crying?

Test for artefacts with atitool, best choice
man, since SC2 is coming out today, i`ll be in a coma for 3 days if you need me
-
Hey guys, two questions.
1) Anyone have that problem in StarCraft 2 where when you select a Pylon (playing as Protoss, obviously) and there's a sudden and severe drop in fps when the glowing grid pops up?
2) What are the latest Nvidia drivers that are safe to use? I'm still on 190.40. -
You guys STILL have m1730's????? Damnnnn. You need to hop on board for an m17x. It's better in ways you cannot fathom unless you have it in front of you.
-
Also, how much RAM does the 8800M GTX SLI have? 512 or 1024?
-
The M1730 can still run most games pretty well. I owe that to the console life cycles.
Game developers aren't making games that need anything better than an Xbox 360 to run, not until the next generation of consoles. I'm surprised this laptop is still relevant 2-3 years later. I remember how PCs would go out of date within months before the console takeover of the gaming industry.
-
Each card has 512MB.
-
I have both in front of me and i love them both equally
Sure, the M1730 is older, but it copes perfectly with everything i throw at it.
I have recently put a X25-M 160GB SSD in it and it just flies!
I don't know, it just got style or something
Also, there have been talks about bad LCD screens on the M1730, i recently replaced my old one with a samsung LCD and it's excellent. -
damn power supply died on me last nite.
Is it normal for M1730 not having options on navtive rasolution on external monitor on battery? -
You should be able to run any resolution on external output on battery.
-
My GPU may be crapping out too then.
It wouldn't do any resolution higher than 1200 by 800 on my 3007 wfp monitor. -
did that work before ?
are you running dual monitor or external monitor only ? -
Ya my m1730 is basically my desktop, plugged in and used the monitor 24/7, external monitor only.
I had to press power button to shut it down last nite, and when it rebooted, it was running on battery, and I noticed the brick light was off/dead, and I wasn't able to make the monitor's LCD display on it's native resolution.
It's tough to get used to darn M11x's tiny screen atm@!@@@!! -
brick is bricked (
sorry, couldn't help it ) for sure if the blue light is off..
video card might follow, but i would test with a new brick before deciding..
Are you still under warranty ? -
Yeah brick is under it's way. Still under warranty. My GPU's were running @ high temps than when I first got it though. Max was 95C these days lol.
-
Worst part of it was it was right after I installed Starcraft II, and crapped out when I pressed "launch" on the first mission lol. I wanted to see how well M1730 handled it, but now I have to wait lol.
The game runs suprisingly well on M11x R2 btw, mostly at high settings, single player campaigns. -
that's very high. i know my 8800 never went above 83, and the 9800gtx doesn't go above 77.. did you clean the dust lately ?
-
Not inside, but what I can see from outside, I cleaned them out. The temps used to be under 75C on load when I first had the system - When the 8800's just came out x).
-
you must have pretty fat dust bunnies stuck inside there. i'd open it up and clean it if i were you
-
Nah, I'll just let it ride on it's warranty lol.
-
someone wants an m17x replacement lol. dont worry im doing same thing
-
haha. I wouldn't even go that far at this point. It does seem my GPU is going down hill, so all I want is the GPU replaced atm lol.
-
yah hopefully mine dies in 2 years lol i have 4 year warrently with that "accidental damage stuff"
-
i got a k650m as a replacement for a dead 8800gtx... it's a good time to let your video card die
-
So now they're replacing them with 9800M GTXes? If my M1730 dies again, all I want is my money back.
-
looks like it's the only card they have now. i know for a fact that my 8800gtx was replaced with 9800GTX. now sure if they have a stock of 8700 or not...
-
Doesn't matter if they have 8700 or not, I have 8800M GTX and (if) it dies, they should give me an identical/better system (or my money).
-
Blasphemy!
The Beast is still cool, although I`d fancy the idea of getting an m17x as a replacement...
Replacement ftw!
(noi putem spera...dar stii tu c00m e la noi in tara) -
I would like that too (who wouldn't?), but only if it is a R2 with i7, RBG screen and the latest GPU.
pana acum totul a fost in regula, vom vedea pe viitor. -
Which nvidia drivers are you guys using? Which are the safest and latest?
Also, you guys realize you can likely fix all those 8800s by baking them in the oven? -
I've opened mine a few times and there was actually very little dust inside. It all accumulated in the fans which you can clean out with a can of compressed air.
-
not the experience i had.
When i opened mine for the first time after about a year, it had huge bunnies between the fan and the heatsink fins.
as a rule of thumb - if you see your temps climbing, you have to open it and clean the dust. -
Finished 7% of the game, wow, so far it`s been amazing
-
niffcreature ex computer dyke
I've recently gotten about 6 [SIX] dead pixels on my LCD
and one stuck white one.
Does anyone know Dells policy on this? -
call support and you will know
-
six is over the limit.
-
Got the power brick replacement today, and the M1730 is back to operation.
(damn it!! x) -
That was fast. I waited 2 weeks for it
-
Usually next business day shipping w/in the US I think. -
I just received my Dell XPS m1730 and wow i love it.
I have X7900 cpu running at 2.8ghz (not overclocked) and 8700sli cards.
Temps of cards are between 69 & 70c idling in windows is this about right?
and when cpu overclocked a low 45C.
Going to install SSD Drive & 750gb HDD hopefully to get some better READ/Write Rates. -
I had NBD also, but since I transfered my warranty to Europe, everything's been slowed down.
SC2 runs beautifully, and the storyline is amazing. Think I might play it over and over
-
wow man, i want to play it so much. thing is, i am selling my AW (to replace it with a better model) and my wife doesn't let me touch the M1730, so i am stuck with my work computer (HP ProBook with on board video) and can't play
-
A better model than the AW? wow, like what?
-
no no, it'll be AW, but with a better spec
thing is, i buy my stuff in US import it to Israel, use it for a while, and then resell it for the same or better price than what i bought it for.
Then, i just buy the newer model.
Right now i have the AW with 4870 CF video cards, and i will be buying the new one with 5870 CF which are faster or i wait for a refresh, didn't decide yet
-
you BETA test the computers for your clients
-
yeah, that one went through a hell of a beta testing.
It is mfractal certified now! Thus the price premium
-
Down to the last SC2 mission, woopty doo
