siquadri, looks about right considering you have 3 year accidental,
without it though, i would say its looks to be around 1500-1600 -
Looks to be a great deal to me. Seems like you have about $500 in extras over mine for only about $175 more than I paid for mine. Now just get an ssd to make good use of all those features. I'm waiting on the Vertex 3 to come out in the next week or two. Did you use any special discounts? I ordered the morning of the release and they wouldn't even give me next day shipping for free, much less any money off. I had to pay $19 for next day air. That was my discount.
-
Do anyone have EDD ? I ordered today mine
-
I am in between this notebook and G150 (Clevo based) which has a 460M instead of a 540M and costs a bit more. I guess having a choice is a good thing and it is only because the XPS 15 seems to be a bargain.
Tried asking a Dell sales rep if there is any chance that Dell will offer a card which is faster than the 540M but i spent most of the time showing him that there has been a revision of the XPS 15 with the Sandy Bridge processors.. Anyway apparently the 525M is also an option -
-
@- Do anyone have ordered L502x with i7 2630QM processor it seems like i am the only one. All i see is i7 2720QM -
The only way to get the 2630QM on XPS15 is to buy the lowest price base model and add it there. That's cost effective if you're getting no extras like 1080p screen or blue ray player (or if you're tech savvy and plan to add the extras yourself).
It's a different story with the XPS17 where 2630QM is the starting processor in most configurations (instead of 2620M) -
You even have to pay for the i7 dual cores... -
What does that mean anyway ? i7 2630QM is still the best processor compare to the older one like i7 740QM ? I hope i didn't make the wrong choice
By the way Here in China lowest price model starts with the i7 2630QM & i7 2720QM upgrade is costing me around USD 230.
Should i go with the i7 2630QM ? However i am bit confused or upgrade it to the i7 2720QMAny advice would be helpful

Hi everyone,
Been lurking here for a few days reading as much as I can - thanks for all the help! I just bought a L502 here in the UK - and I also got a back-lit keyboard included
This option isn't available to us Brits on the website - so I called and asked for it and they added it for £30. My sales chap did have to go and ask a manager - but it's done and I have the confirmation email. So - if you wan the back-lit KB in the UK - call and ask.
my specs:
XPS L502x : 2nd generation Intel Core i7-2630QM processor 2.00 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 2.90 GHz 1
Display : 15.6" FHD B+RGLED True-Life (1920x1080) with 2.0 Mega Pixel Integrated Camera 1
Memory : 4GB (2X2GB) 1333MHz DDR3 Dual Channel 1
Hard Drive : 640GB Serial ATA (7200RPM) 1
Optical Drive : Tray Load Blu-ray Disc BD-Combo (Reads BD and Writes to
Battery : Primary 9-cell 90W/HR LI-ION 1
Graphics : 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M Graphics card 1
Wireless : Europe Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 (2x2 b/g/n+ Bluetooth Combo Card) 1
Mobile Broadband : Internal Dell Wireless 5540 built-in 3G/HSDPA for Vodafone SIM not included 1
Keyboard : Internal Backlit UK/Irish Qwerty Keyboard 1
Operating System : English Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64 BIT) 1
4 Year Hardware Support - Next Business Day 1
XPS L502x Order - UK 1
Notebook - Freight 1 Unit 1
I'll put more RAM in at my end - save a fortune over Dell's prices. I got the 4 year next day warranty since my last Dell 9400's 1920x1200 screen went T over A after 3 years and cost over £180 to replace out of warranty. The 4 years for the price of 3 seems good value to me since if this goes wrong after 3 years and 11 months, Dell would be more likely to replace the lappy. The replaced my 2 year old Pentium 9300 (with over heating issues) for the 9400 for free about 4 years ago.
Have to wait 20 days for delivery. -
4 year hardware support looks great overall , I thought dell UK don't offer backlight keyboard
-
-
I don't see their problem to offer backlit keyboard in the UK. Why don't they just make it a standard like everywhere else seeing as there is great demand?
I myself wanted one when I was thinking to order the L501x, decided to wait for the refresh model and the option still wasn't there so just bought without it.
Although after reading a review on a thread somewhere I am ok with not having BL Keyboard. -
Anyone taken delivery yet of a L502?
Would love to see a picture of the Keyboard ..
Thanks,
M -
Yes, I read that the back-lit keyboard can be hard to read in normal daylight - i'm a photographer so I will editing images on the go in hotel rooms and dimly lit rooms, so it should benefit me. I can always get a standard KB later on - a lot easier to get hold of than the UK BL versions! -
@mecne - laptopmag review keyboard pictures:
BL off: http://www.laptopmag.com/images/uploads/2678/g/DellXps15_2011_g13.jpg
BL on: http://www.laptopmag.com/images/uploads/2678/g/DellXps15_2011_g14.jpg
@Occams_Cat - From the image above, BL on looks very nice! -
I'm quite disappointed to find out the "island" type keyboard will be on my computer. I wonder if this can be changed out with an L501x backlit keyboard.
It really does not matter though. My wife has a notebook with an island style keyboard and she HATED it for a while and now is OK with it after becoming accustomed to it. I guess I will get used to it.
Also, as if I had to ask....whoever receives your machine first, please let us know. I ordered on April 22 and am still "in production."

The way I want my XPS 15, I'd need quad core and the 1080p screen, so the $1299 version with Blu-ray drive works out to be the cheapest way of getting that for me. However, I have no need for blu-ray or DVD in a laptop. Anyone install a caddy in their XPS15 yet? Can we get a different faceplate for the caddy, since I'll probably be selling the blu-ray drive anyway.

Is this image of the L502 from the laptopmag review a pic with the biggest battery available??
It looks really ugly and bulky. I hope that's with the large capacity battery because I've been waiting a long time for this laptop and if this is how it looks I may have to go with HP even if they don't offer warranty in my country.
EDIT: Ah just read that this is with the 9 cell battery.I got worried there for a sec. -
I'm quite interested in finding out weather the L501x and L502x keyboards are interchangeable. If so, I would be more than happy to switch it out. Though i haven't ordered mine yet, but the day isn't far.
I read the review by LaptopMag of the L502x the other day and although it has been mentioned in the thread that the L502x has a chicklet keyboard, its just hit me after seeing the pics. Sure I might get used to it later on but i would still much rather have the L501x keyboard.
Please someone find out if this is possible. -
-
-
I liked the L501x's keyboard, and really don't like the new MBP's chicklet keyboard, so I may be ordering a new L501x keyboard from dell soon after it arrives. I'll give it a day or so, but the MBP one sucks, and I'm afraid this one will too.
-
been trolling this thread for a while now just reading up on thoughts and opinions. had ordered a L501x when the refresh came out. called and cancelled the first order to order the 502. Ordered on 2/22/11, SHIPPED today!!!!!! NBD should be here tomorrow at some point!!!! can't wait.
-
Yay! Available with core i5 now!!!
-
Dang, Smack, I ordered the same day you did and mine's still in production. I wonder if that's part of the price you pay for ordering through AAFES (military), although I did get a pretty good discount.
-
Does anyone know how the i5 processor would be in terms of performance vs battery life when compared to the i7. I'm debating which one to get becasue battery life is important to me and I don't do super intensive things on my laptop. The most would be opening many tabs on the web browser or playing Just Cause 2/COD: Black Ops.

-
-

I ordered on 2/26 and it is still In Production :-\. -
Seem someone will receive in day or two.... looking forwards to see reports....
Really wants to change my 4-year Inspiron 6000 to XPS 15....
will be a hugh jump in power.... -
Mine is still at Delivery Preperation.
But just if anyone's interested... assuming the L501x and L502x keyboards are compatible, I'm going to want to swap with someone who has the standard L501x style! -
I'm excited to hear what the sound is like. Has received great reviews everywhere and I hope it surpasses my expectations
edit: Actually, what am I thinking, it's the same as L501x correct? So yeah, have not read bad reviews so it has to be really good -
-D
By the way, is it possible to refresh your order status page too often? -
-
my status has changed to ship from factory but has three more stages to get to me. -
hi everyone, i bought an hp dv6t quad edition which was affected by the Intel chip-set problem. HP is giving me until the end of next month to return my laptop for a full refund or replace with another one using the same discount as the original. I was looking to buy the Dell XPS 15 instead but the only problem is i got a crazy deal with the HP.
The specs on the HP:
dv6t Quad Ed
• Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
• 2nd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2720QM (2.2 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache) with Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz
• 1GB ATI Mobility Radeon(TM) HD 6570 graphics [HDMI, VGA]
• FREE Upgrade to 6GB DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
• 640GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
• No Additional Office Software
• No additional security software
• High Capacity 6-Cell Lithium-Ion Battery (standard) - Up to 6.75 hours of battery life +++
• 15.6" diagonal High Definition HP BrightView LED Display (1366x768)
• No TouchScreen (includes HP TrueVision Webcam)
• LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
• Intel 802.11b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R)
• Backlit Keyboard with Fingerprint Reader
• HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
i got it for $1017.97 including tax and shipping ( i had a $500 coupon)
I called Dell yesterday to buy the $1299 model but the rep would not budge on the price. i then told him to configure an XPS with more or less the same configuration as my HP and the price was $1513 with tax. This makes no sence to me, i told the rep that i would stay with the HP and then he offered me a $50 discount.
Did you guys get any discounts on your xps or did you pay the price on the website? i tried serching online for coupons but they dont even come close to HP... if i was to pay 1500 for a laptop i would rather spend 200 or 300 more and get a macbook pro...
