G86 core = 8400M

Thanks @ Crash for the info...
Ah, So I was wrong.. hmmm.. I guess I got confused again with all these endless naming schemes and codes... my bad I didn't check out and clear myself up. -
-
Thats so weird. G86 8600GT? G84, 8400GS? That is a strange naming scheme...
-
yep it is.. I went through those links given by crash and I think I would need to go through it all over again. though the funny part is I am pretty clear with the drivers around and the products / cards they are for, thank to some clear search results in dell / nvidia / laptopvideo2go... lol.. ;-) else I guess my mind would be screwed up big time with these graphic cards n drivers.. -
after the upgrade apparently i can play assassin creed way better no lag after 3 hr+ of playin =) lovin 177.73
-
Also while gaming is it normal for a non-OC 8600m temperature to be Min: 56 C, Max : 81 C while gaming? -
For the temp., I guess its normal. Check in the other poll thread on temperatures around here. I see similar temperatures from users even there..Cheers.
-
Hmmmm.... 174.31 & 175.97 seems to be preferred by people around here!!!
Should I or should I not try the 175.97???/ -
fonduekid, just try 177.73... i honestly see no difference, my core temp r same lol only thing that made any difference is the A09 BIOS update from dell which makes the fan run faster @_@ , if u r looking for the driver that gives the lowest temp, then u might as well just buy a cooling pad/ mod a little here n there
-
I am not necessarily looking for drivers that is giving low temperatures. I am just wanting to have the latest driver's installed for all my devices on my system.. preferably ones thats been released by the manufacturer and stick with it. And I would like to know what people are using in general for this specific card / system. Also, because I heard some of these drivers when released for a system/card have some builtin in tech things (which I never tend to get hold of) that are specific for the system.. The only reason I was thinking about 175.97 was because they do support the card I have, just that Dell hasn't yet got it onto the M1530 driver page. Else I am sure when I did update driver it would have done automatically. As for mod'ed ones, I am not really into it. I prefer sticking with the original stuff for now.
And in any case the BIOS A09 update making difference doesn't mean there is a difference made to the driver versions, isn't it? the BIOS A09 updated fan settings will anyway run as its supposed to, right?
In general, system temp. are perfectly fine for me, within the normal range, and peaking at 74-75 after couple of hours of heavy duty load on the system.. else its all in the normal range like GPU in the 55-56ish, core's around 36-40ish, HDD at 35-40ish... and these are normal I guess..
And yeah, I am reading around a lot these days about these million driver versions out there, and the general idea I get is just the driver version alone does not make big or major differences apart from the fact they help in performance of graphics, fixing certain issues with certain games or whatever (according to the info from the driver pages of dell or nvidia or whoever), bluray (that damn WHQL thing which I never understand) etc etc.... At the moment 174.31 is being a nice little well-behaved kid and so why spoil the kid now? No? Worse case I would probably try 175.97 since its there from Dell... Else I think I'll just live with this and get it updated whenever an update is released.
But for sure, I will take a look at 177.73 as well, at least to keep myself informed..Thanks again. Cheers.
-
i personally felt that the 175.97 released by dell for m1330 actually had a decrease in performance over 174.74 released by laptop2go....
i also found a chart http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19567 that shows benchmarks.... the confusing part is that it clearly states that 175.63 is the fastest driver but yet they are complimenting the 177.66 when its actually slower.... maybe i am reading this chart wrong?? -
well after like hours of playing Assassin Creed i finally hit my first frozen screen.. i guess it over-heated =( (note i play in AC room) so i dont know what to do now.. anyone else experiencing this/? or have a good way to make the system cooler during gaming.. beside a fan pad
GeForce Driver Version : 177.73
BIOS : A09 -
Im using 175.19 from NVIDIA website. Previously Im using 156+ from Dell release NVIDIA Driver, after upgrading to 175.19 it increase my 3DMark06 to 518 (from 4351 to 4931).
My problem is the NVIDIA driver description change from 8600M GT to 8600 GT (without letter M) .anybody knows what the difference between 8600 vs. 8600M performance wise?
thanks! -
Whats the best driver version to combat this:
"Display Driver Stopped Responding and Has Recovered - nvlddmkm"
& Flickering screen as well during gaming? -
I have not experienced this 174.31 and even the people with 175.97 did not experience this I guess..
And the card in your system? -
wait i thought u cant use drivers from nvidia directly cause it doesnt work for laptops and they dont support it?
unless, u install their driver (which i believe works for all their cards) and went to laptop2go and installed a dell INF?
how did you get a nvidia driver from their site to work ? -
-
-
-
But for me 174.31 has been giving no problems at all. Anyway, things can differ.
Also, why don't you try 175.97??? Thats supposed to be good as well.
What I learnt was that there wasn't one single, perfect driver for anything. Some works well for one, while they don't for others and give rise to new issues probably. I would rather try with 175.97 or chose one of the recent drivers from laptopvideo2go that says specifically that it supports 8600M GT and see how it goes. -
-
-
The beta drivers from NVidia's website are for desktop cards only, which is why you need a modded .inf to make them work for the mobile versions that are in laptops. -
i'll try laptopvideo2go but i might not install the modded .inf because it wont run my BlueRay player. -
I learnt that drivers coming with WHQL can all let u use / run bluray, isn't it??and the modded .inf generally doesn't alter those things, no? I mean if the original driver has WHQL, will the modded .inf for this driver remove this WHQL or whatever? At lease from what I read on laptopvideo2go, modded .inf mainly lets you use drivers for a wider range of cards than originally intended and stuff like that... Phheewww.. lost!!
-
-
i just now changed from 177.73 -->175.95, why? because i want to see if it'll fix this issue i recently had where sumtime when the laptop starts up..it would freeze at the window xp logo loading screen... >_> (at random time..) will report back to see any result
-
Generally the official WHQL drivers provide better HD playback than the latest beta drivers...
-
So I am thinking about the poster' comments and bluray connections and modded .inf's. Think I'll wait to hear / learn more -
just install 175.97 and it works for my BlueRay player. This driver dont have modded .inf available at laptopvideo2go so its alright.
my question is why it shows on my device driver 9600M GT instead of 8600M GT?
any problem with this? -
156.63 --> 4,351 3DMark Score
175.19 --> 4,931
175.97 --> 4,765
i want to go back to 175.19 but it's not for laptop and without "M" (Mobility) in 8600M GT.
175.97 it shows 9600M GT instead of 8600M GT.
so which is which....geez i'm lost -
-
Have fun.
See how is it going and get back to us anytime with any issues so that you could help, as well as we all could learn too, which is equally imporant.Cheers.
And I personally always at least read through and check out the latest drivers - you never know when you might get a latest one but that which would work like a charmSo keep an eye on that. For now enjoy your machine.
-
Probably you got a mysterious, magical video card upgrade! lol...
But seriously, any one?? -
if somebody can tell me that it's worth it going back to 175.19 driver without the "M" in 8600M GT...i'll install this driver again
8600 GT (175.19) give me a good score! -
-
-
Good that this works
Have fun.
-
hm ok this morning i just recently encountered yet again the logo screen freezing after it loaded for a few sec.. (no there arent any lines..just the loading bar just freezes..also i did have my usb mouse plug in if that helps..) after a quick force shutdown and restart without the mouse usb it loaded fine.)
so can it b the GPU driver? or is this a sign of a defective Hardware? -
Did you try tapping f8 when booting and from the options try to start from the 'last known good configuration'??? And see what happens??
You could also probably try 'repair my computer' option which you will see in the advanced boot up options when u tap F8.
But hope you have a backup of your computer and data in it. Because if you wanna go for dell factory image restore or similar, its equal to OS reinstallation and it would del all your data. Just to keep you informed
Or probably its the driver version (I am not sure about this). Which version were u using last? I would suggest sticking with the ones from Dell for a while.
For more infor, check in the Dell manual.. all the options are listed there. -
my point is that the problem is random, personally i only worry bout hardware related issue lol
-
-
fondue link me to the driver u r currently using for 8600M, assuming u have tested in games and find it to play fine without lag =P

I use the original one from Dell site.. you could take a look at the laptopvideo2go site as well, if you want. -
hm that was the first driver i had installed.. i only complained that after i upgraded gaming seems to be better
so..no1 else is having the issue i am having? i dont wanna try liek 100+ drivers , hope someone who had encounter this issue tell me the actual problem -
As said many times by many people here, I think all these driver versions solve one issue, but probably give rise to another one.
Anyways, have you tried 175.97? (sorry if this is the one u r using right now!)
Or browse through laptopvideo2go and see if there is one that suits you. There are some which seem to work well with people. I don't remember which exactly.
Cheers -
I've gone back to 174.55 for now. All the 177.7x drivers have caused my GPU to idle in the 70 degree zone, hitting 80-85 when gaming. The 174's keep my GPU below 80 at all times and idle at 62-66.
-
I just installed the 175.97 The gRAPHICS INDEX CARD WENT FROM A 5.5 TO A 5.4?? wHAT DOES THAT MEAN?? IS IT NEGLIGIBLE?
-
The Vista experience index is not always accurate. Obviously any "small" difference is negligible. Though it does build up.
You may want to revert to your previous drivers simply because the Graphics Card Index is mainly an estimate of gaming performance... so.. as biased as it is... going from a 5.5 to a 5.4... is not a good thing if you want to play a few games.
Remember that for some drivers, it sacrifices some gaming performance for movie playback, while some place more emphasis on gaming performance, or some make a better balance of both.
Clearly, the 175.97 driver decreases gaming performance, though it may have increased your movie playback performance marginally. So.. if your intending to play games... yeah, go back to previous drivers or try a different one.
