Do note that most 3DMark or PCMark scores are rather meaningless. Usually, the difference between the scores that people most are a few hundred points at the max, and that not enough of a difference to show a certain driver is better - you could rerun the test again and get a similarly differing score. The real decider is it fire up some games and see which feel the best to you.

I just got my laptop 2 days ago, and i have 174.31 installed. My Idle and Stressed temps are near eachother, both within the 58-68 degrees Celsius range. In fact, after using 3dmark06, the GPU was 58 C as opposed to being like 63 C before the test...weird but im thankful for it
-
Idle temps.
But while gaming my GPU goes around 86-89 degrees. Laptop is on my lap too, so I'm blocking most of the vents.

Have you got some blocks of polar ice that have broken away from the north pole, inside your notebook????
Those idle temp' are great and literally 'cool'
what driver are you using? or how does it stay so cool???
Using any cooling pads? Undervolted??? -
good for you bro
haha i wish my temp is like that
oh will what can u do -
I am with fonduekid.... akuma where are you located geographically? are you in a cold region because I cant figure out how its possible to have the temps that you do... i have never seen anyone with temps in the 20's range EVER on these forums. -
For the OP of these unbelievable temperatures, please search around the forum.. I have been reading about *unusually* low temperatures and probably something is not really right or something like that..
I dont mean to take away credit from you, but the general idea is that such low temperatures are 'not' normal... So please do check around and look for some experts views.. let us know then whats happening..
Good luck.

Georaphically I live in Estonia, my room temperature is +25 degrees.
Here's a map - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Estonia_EU_Europe.jpg
I haven't undervolted nor am I using cooling pad, it's just when my laptop isn't on my lap (it's on a table) then none of the vents isn't blocked and the air flows freely. Since the table is next to a big window .. I believe the air coming from window cools the laptop aswell.
Though when I put the laptop on my lap, most of the vents will be blocked and that adds +10 degrees to everything. -
I just upgraded to the latest drivers from laptopvideo2go (177.89), and have the a09 bios. What a difference!!! Before, I was using 175.97 and running Unreal Tournament 3 , I had to run it windowed and scale a lot of the video options way back in order play it without being choppy. Now, it will run flawlessly at 1400 x 900 with full options enabled. Colors are brighter and more true to life as well. Temperature is running well within norms as well. I highly recommend it.
-
I don't know guys but all of this seems like the placebo effect to me...
-
Thinking the same.. Has anyone else tried these? Benchmarks? Temps?..I don't particularly feel like trying them yet.
-
To each his own mate.. and its not me saying this, but its the general unsaid rule out there with respect to driver versions
They (the different driver versions) perform differently in different machines and for some solve some problems, while for some they give rise to new issues.. hence the numerous versions coming out since they try to iron out as much issues as possible with each release..
If you want benchmarks n details, I recommend searching for the driver version and other keywords like names of the games or temperature either here or in laptopvideo2go... lots of benchmarks with almost all driver versions in different machine with different configurations are lying around
Bit difficult to pool them all together since they keep changing..
But do take a look at laptopvideo2go forum threads n user posts.
Good luck. -
I get terrible OpenGL performance using another above 175.x
-
using 177.66 now without any problem

How do I set this one up? I hit setup and it says that it can't find an nvidia driver.
-
If you got the driver from laptopvideo2go, did you get the modded .inf into the extracted folder?
Also, are you running the installation as instructed in laptopvideo2go? -
how is this driver performing? anyone here using it yet? is it helping with gpu temps? -
Is it the same pack available since July for the Inspiron 1520?
(Available HERE)
I'm using that one with an idle temperature of 56-57 celsius degrees (with the A08 bios) and about 74-75 under gaming load. (Overclocked @ 675/900 i reached around 82 degrees) -

-
Idle temp' with the new driver from Dell for M1530...
-
Hmmmm...what about under load? I idle around 57, and max out @ 80 under full load.

Please check the previous post

Also I must add, in the system stability test from within the nVidia CP, previously there used to be like 56-57 passes for the 10 min run... but now I see 53.. Just thought I'll mention this, if at all it means anything.
-
Looks like these may be a keeper, after playing some QW & UT3
Idle:59 (from 57)
Load:75 (from 80) YES!!! -
Sorry but I honestly don't want to have to strain my eyes reading 23 pages -_-
Could someone please give me the low down on what the best driver is at the moment? It seems like 174.31 and 175.97 are most popular but have a near 50-50 split. How do these two drivers compare? Is one better for X and another better for Y? -
dude 174.74 hands down, its the fastest driver out of all the available choices.
-
To be honest, there is no such thing as the 'best driver' at the moment. If you may have read through the pages, people have been saying time and again that a given driver works for some while it doesn't for others..
Each of these driver versions being released keep fixing new things including new issues being seen with games (if you take a look at laptopvideo2go, you would know)... and as is said all over, some fix existing issues, while giving rise to new issues probably..
The best and recommended bet is to try out the driver released by the laptop manufacturer (which in this case is 174.31 and 175.97, for example) and see if everything is fine. If yes, stick with it
as someone said here before, 'if aint broke, why go around trying to fix it?'
Stick with one that works as long as its fine.. and if u have any issues, please get back here and people would recommend a driver that would resolve that issue..
Start with the ones from Dell
They all work very well, at least the one' I have used have been giving no issues till now
Good luck.
-
The "best" driver is the one that does what you want. For instance, do you want an extra few fps in games? Go for the latest beta driver. Do you want maximum stability? Use the OEM provided driver. Ultimately each driver will be a balance of stability/performance and it is up to you to decide which is more important. Also, the stability of the driver is dependent on your hardware and software configuration, so what may work well for others may not work well for you. Just try some out and you'll get a feel for which works best for you.
-
Which driver gives the coolest temps and most stable performance? I just tried 174.31 and my max GPU temp was about 5C higher than what I got from my default driver 156.69, both were the official Dell versions. I read somewhere that the 156.69 reports wrong temperatures though? Could someone enlighten my on this?
My max load 174.31 temp was 78C and my max load 156.69 temp was 73C. -
My questions are simple..
Whats the best driver for this card in terms of the most performance gain in Vista? And which in XP?
The other question is, if i'll get better performance in XP or VISTA.. -
My version is...the default...156.69....yeah...

177.79 here, runs excellent, and the laptopvideo2go version contains the original Dell inf, so no need to use modded inf.
174.31 wouldn't let me create custom resolutions, which I require. -
any recommend video drivers that
(m1530/8600m gt + usb2.0 external 5.25 inch with sata blueray)
1) is 64bit vista
2) will play bluray
the drivers cyberlink bd advisor wants to use are 32bit only...
im currently using 177.89
help ;\ -
Have you checked in laptopvideo2go? There are quiet a few of them with BR playback... check and make sure before you try new ones if they have the WHQL certificate... I think its needed for BR playback!!!
(Out of my mind, from hearing somewhere, 177.73 keep' flashing.. you may wanna check this out >> http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19801 )
And I didn't quiet understand the bolded part...
-
how did you install 177.79 without using the modded inf? I thought for this driver the original inf didn't support any dell mobile cards. When i tried installing it using original inf it said it didn't support my vid card (8600M GT on M1530).
-
You need to use the "Have Disk" method mentioned on this site to load the driver without the modded INF.
-
Is there an advantage to installing using the "have-disk" method as opposed to using the setup file with modded inf?
-
From where can i know my driver? The device manager gives me this!!!
Driver date 2/22/2008
Driver version 7.15.11.7431
I tried to install the driver 175.19 but it says
"The nividia setup program could not locateany drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit" -
your driver version is 174.31 (the last five numbers)
And are you sure you are trying to install the 175.19 with the modded .inf file? And where did you get this from? If you got 175.19 from laptopvideo2go, you would need the modded .inf file. Good luck. -
Okay, now this thing is pissing me off, i have tried every possible driver available to man (and several available to aliens) and i have not found one that doesnt downclock my gpu when i run it on battery, im running the latest right now (177.92) and it does the same thing, and also, for anyone looking to install it, its apparently dropping my fps a lot, so best choose one known to actually enhance performance.
anyone got any suggestions to what i could do, am i missing something???
thanks! -
Seen this thread?? >> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=273276
there are lots of discussions and suggestions about the drivers n downclocking and stuff.. see if u find some version that'll keep you happy. good luck. -
** Bumping it up for some new users who were looking for drivers and such **
-
they might as well pin it.. =P
also..Windows Xp 64 bits + vmware FTW!! =D -
For 175.97, the most popular, the 8600m gt isn't even listed in the original INF support on laptopvideo2go. Does it still work or something?
-
It does work (works pretty well too). Check in the Dell Drivers and Downloads section and its listed under the M1530 or you can see the cards supported too. Initially this driver was released for the 1330 and recently it was released for the 8600m GT cards in the M1530. Good luck. Cheers.
-
Alright, I'll try out that one first then. Thanks for the help
-
Anytime..
And check everything once you get this driver.. run some tests (starting with the nvidia stability test, if you want)... also check the temperatures... and for this I recommend using HWmonitor from CPUID for monitoring temperatures, and RTHDRIBL for maxing out the GPU.. both are free and so there, nice to check out stuff
Keep Hwmonitor on for a while before u run RTHDRIBL so that u know the min temp' and run it for 10 or 15 mins and see the temp...
Also, if you aren't happy with temp', you could try out the 174.31 driver version.. thats a wonderful driver too
Good luck.

I'm not gonna lie. I'm new to this. What are the steps I should follow to completely uninstall my current video driver? I saw it the other day, but now I can't find it anywhere.
