go to device manager > display > you will see the video card there > right click > you will see a driver tab > uninstall driver... and the you could proceed with the installation of the new driver.

    @ Riton

You mean drivers for the nVidia card?

what version do u have now?

*this poll is not a definitive information on the driver to use.. its purely user preference / opinion. And they may differ* :) :)

Let us know what driver you have now, do u have any issues and similar. Thanks

    Oh i don't, and i'm sorry i didn't give much details!
I believe i've got the same card as you, the better one available for the m1530.
I'm not on the laptop right now and i was just wondering if anyone had any extra input :)

The latest released from dell for the M1530 is 175.97 and its pretty good... previously I have personally used 174.31 and it was great as well... and the version from dell before the 175.97 was the 156.63 which was the driver with which the M1530 came in, for me.. but then I used 174.31 and more recently when dell released the 175.97 I am using this now...

the driver choice depends on what u want to do... there are lots in laptopvideo2go... one driver might work for one, while throwing up new issues probably.. :)

So if u r happy with what u have now, I would say stick with it as long as there are no issues..

else stick with the latest driver from dell and see how it is (this is the 175.97) and for me its been good... though the 174.31 seems to report 1 or 2 deg C lower temp', from what I have seen around..

To OP and all these best driver threads.

The best drivers any graphics card are the ones from the Graphic card manufatcturer. They have been made, create and coded for the system speciafically. The modded ones out there have been made by people self proclaimed "driver makers" and you don't know if it's actually worth it, enhances anything or damages. Why are there so many if they were all performance boosters? That's because they aren't.

My advice to people thinking about changing drivers because they hear people saying they have performance boost, is just stick with your manufacturer drivers.

    You'll be good.

Dont give a **** about what anyone else says, because there is no concrete benchmarks that show that they even up the FPS by 1-2

    Peace

I just saw your other post in the top questions thread.. and I think u need a break mate.

Anyways have u gone through this thread fully? and did u read the post just before yours? I did say (and I have always said, in other posts around) that the drivers from Dell are the best place to start with, and more often they are sufficient for everything and performance and stuff..

As for your other claims that the other drivers are not enhancing anything, I think thats not entirely true... drivers do make a difference and there are people with proof that changing drivers did enhance performance or did fix issues with some games or whatever... just read through the laptopvideo2go forum..

But having said that, as I said before, still while one driver fixes an issue, it might throw open new ones.. so better to stick with OEM drivers and see how they are.. else change the driver, but after researching well about the up' and down' of the new one... but what u r saying about driver' with moddef inf' not doing anything even by 1 or 2 fps, is not true... there are benchmarks done, and I have seen benchmark resutls and stuff all over the web.. dont ask me to show you, sorry, but search around.. coz thats what I did as well. there are benchmarks with enhanced performance.

    Anyway.

Does anyone notice more fan use with v175.59 than with 174.31? I'm not sure if it's just in my head or is it really running more often

Seems to me the drivers listed and quoted are a bit old??
Using 178.13 modded - no artifacts or anything like it.

    Seems to work quite well,
    Overclocked at 756/900,

Plays crysis on med/high (totally fluid NO stuttering even on last missiion)
at 1280*800 (will play same at higher res, Its just with 1920*1200 native res it totally recks my eyes at any higher resolution)

Yet - gpu only hits 65 degrees (even after hours and hours and.....) :)
    - cpu only hits high 40's

I have basically the same stats (diff hard drive, 1 gig less ram, and the LED screen) and those temps are insanely low :O

What are you tracking the temps with? My CPU is undervolted and GPU is running at factory speeds and I'm not touching those.

Also do you have any issues with windows refreshing when scrolling with laptopvideo2go drivers? I tried a couple of the 177.xx drivers and when I'd scroll up and down a page in Firefox the scrollbar and window would take a moment to catch up with the mouse.

I am using the latest available desktop drivers from nVidia site without modding .inf by doing a manual install so I don't break the WHQL since I have a Blu-ray drive.

Granted I do use a laptop cooler, I stuck an akasa 22cm fan underneath and it seems to work pretty well, It only goes about 600 rpm so its probably the quietest fan you can buy, plus it pretty much freezes the laptop.

I think the last one I tried was a 174 something.
To be honest I havn't really noticed all that much of a difference between any of the drivers, The main reason I upgraded was to get drivers that allowed overclocking.

been researching on this problem for a few days....

I cant install any drivers for my 8600gt except dell's. I know that my 8600gt is mobile and not every driver will work with it but I tried like 10-15 drivers from laptopvideo2go and none of them works(different versions ofcourse).

Reason why Im trying to install other drivers is beacuse 2 of 3 games I tried wont start. One that starts is NFSU2 which has a skipping frame problem but ill survive that for now. Other two are F1 2008 and superbike 08. Both just starts and exits.

Delboyko, just to confirm you were doing it the right way: When you took the drivers from laptopvideo2go, did you also take the modded .inf files, and proceed accordingly?

Arsenaly: updated the first post with info on the latest release from Dell.

Did you read the faq on how to install modded drivers from laptopvideo2go?
It sounds like you didn't swap the modded inf file, if this isn't done then none of those drivers will work.

Dammit fonduekid, you beat me to it by like one min!! :) anyone now how to set explorer to auto refresh tabs?

The drivers at laptopvideo2go are usually desktop drivers They are then modded to include the mobile card info (and this is the modded .inf file).

What you need to do is, go to the page of the driver of interest to you, download the driver, download the modded inf file (link is in the same page as the driver) and then you have to replace the original inf file in the extracted folder with this modded inf file. Then proceed with the install.

(they do have mobile versions too I think, for which you can look under the "cards supported" section to see and make sure if your video card is listed there)

    OR

If you are still confused, let us know which driver version you want from laptopvideo2go, and we can try to get you the files you (can link you from here). But its quiet simple mate.

    Hi,

This is my second post on this forum, i have a Dell XPS M1530, and i have been allowing windows update to supply driver updates for my graphics card, but i feel that something is going wrong with my driver.

When i try to play spiderman web of shadows, i have to run it at 800x600 and it is still very jumpy, and i mean that there is 2-3 seconds between frames!!

i think i have an incorrect driver installed, please could someone tell me which of the drivers is best for running games?

i have tryed to read as much of the post as possible, but it is a very long thread!

    thanksyou for you advice

Web of shadows looks to be quite a graophically intense game so, It might just be the laptop can't run it at any higher.

Anyway - first thing I'd do would be to update to the newest drivers (try a few different ones you might see certain ones work best with that game - http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ )

Secondly see what temperatures your laptop is hitting - hwmonitor - http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=1797
See if your graphics card (gpu) is running too hot. (could be possible source of low performance)

Thirdly if you've upgraded to new drivers and your graphics card isn't running hot, then it woulld seem that the game is just too intense - try turning down the detail settings.

admittedly it is pretty hefty!! i know it is ambitious but i should be able to run more than 800x600! i can run PURE at 1600x1080 with no probs at all!

I am downloading the latest one from Dell as we speak, but would you say it is better to use the ones from laptopvideo2go?

do you mean ambient temp or should i run the game for 20-30 mins to get it hot and then check the temp?

Thankyou so much for your help and fast response!! - truly amazed, i thought i was up for a long wait!!

1- Well yeah, agreed you probably should be quite capable of runnnig it

2- Thats really a matter of opinion.
    I personally use laptopvideod2go ones, -( 178.24 dox currently)
In any of the benxchmarks I've done they seem to come out on top as regards 3dmarks scores. I'd say try all of the ones you wan't to, certain ones will give massive perormance boosts in a particular game, yet you may see less performance with a different game, so try a few different ones (dells included)

3-I mean try running the game for a bit, if you see very high temperatures straight away like +80/90 ish then you'll know that you have a hardware problem with your laptop. also try checking what sort of idle temps you get.

I think idle for the gpu should be around 55-60 degrees celcius
    loaded '' '' '' '' '' high 60's mid 70's

anything other than that and I'd be looking into it.

    Links in quote,

-As regards getting a true idle, you need to turn on the laptop from cold and then just leave it sitting there for an hour doing something basic, like having internet exporer open.
