Well I jumped on chat to see how my system exchange process was going and the Rep said he was "raising a request to expedite the shipment" and that I would be contacted soon. Hopefully that will speed things up, but who know?

Received my new SXPS 1647. Love the screen, keyboard, speakers are much nicer than 1530. Of course the system itself is blazing! And yes it is new hehe....

Good luck to everyone who's waiting for a replacement! I got a refurb 1530 first time I requested a replacement but Dell came through for me.

Glad to hear things are being expedited for you, Ben! : )
Keep checking your account daily for changes & keep on them if you don't hear back! ;)

Grat's on a sweet system! :) The 1647 is great, that is what I have now. It took me a bit of time to get used to the vibrancy of the screen!

Oh, if you didn't get a return shipping label in your box, you will have to contact Support for one! I did it via Chat & they simply e-mailed me one.

    Hey!

Ok...first...I am on my cell so excuse any typos!....Above I have included a quote with a link to Dells Nvidia info on the extended warranty on the GPU..click that & it should give you some info. : ) The warranty was extended for 1 year after the warrant y exp. of your main warranty on your 1530.

They should work with you on that if it hasnt expired yet. When did your warranty expire? You can find that specific info onyour Dell account online, also.

If the warranty on the GPU still holds strong & you run into issues with Dell, you may have to go thru their Unresolved Issues for resolve.

Check that link first I attached in the quote above ;)

    Hope that helps!

I've been getting that message too. I have no idea. I think they're just trying to divert all M1530 concerns to phone calls because people have been having more luck on the chat with replacements and such.

Tanks! :D I am going to recommend that you get a ShaggyMac lappy Screen Protector for you screen/keyboard. They work very well. LINK I had originally ordered one in the 15.6" size..but it was a tad to small for "me", So then I did a custom "fit" on in these dimensions:
17"-19" Custom Shop Laptop Screen Protector (SPCustom17)
    Color Alloy
    Width 15 in
    Depth 8 3/4 in
Make & Model Dell XPS 1647 Price: $17.95.
Use this Coupon Code for 10% Savings: TJOOS10

Glad you were able to Track your shipment! :D So much fun waiting, eh?? :twitchy:

i typed in my service tag number and it shows that XPS Technical Support ended on 3/11/10. and next day business support ended on the same date. there is no nvidia warranty extension under my service tag. and when i did the online chat, they told me my M1530's 8600M GT is not covered by the warranty.

Agent (Uday_151061): "Not all the XPS 1530 are covered by the nVidia GPU warranty. We have a list of few computers that were shipped which had these GPUs that were impacted."

Is that true? what can i do now? should i still go through with the Unresolved Issue department?

    thanks!

Glad it was ON'd to you! :) And, yes you would be very lucky ;)

Aaaah...farking Dell intelligent Reps..That's a utter line of what lays in my cat's litterbox right now!

The 8600 GPU is the faulty Nvidia is the cause of problem!!

    Here: LINK

It is covered. Look at the table.
You need to get back on Chat ask for that SuperIntelligent Reps Supervisor. Tell them your Laptops GPU is covered until 3/11/11 under the NVIDIA GPU Limited Warranty. And, advise it is Dell's responsiblity to fix it. If they are refusing to, you will handle it otherwise.

You can even given them the link that I gave you above. And, it will show that it is supposed to be covered.

If not, be sure to have them give you a Case Number, Get the employee's badge #/Name., etc., and then go with the Unresolved Issues Route: LINK,
and, at the same time I would also send an e-mail to a few of the peeps (cc'ing the others):

    (some will "bounce")

That Nvidia Warranty extension was put into place for a reason obviously, you just got someone who was being belligerent, or improperly trained. *sigh* (I say both).

    update:

i jumped on chat again tonight and insisted that they need to fix my over heating problem. the agent talked to his manager and agreed to have me sending my system in to their depot to get it fixed. even though they still insisit on my batch of xps1530 are not effected by the faulty GPUs.

even though after reading through the forum, it seems like replacing the mother board or the GPU doesn't necessary solve the problem. but at least it is getting it's temp fix.

    thanks for all the help.

Glad you finally got some resolve :). Though, sounds like the Supervisor must also have some sort of "Dell Dementia" pertaining to his/her memory loss on the GPU problem.. :p  Will you be w/out a lappy during this time?

And, yes replacing the Mobo will prolly' only be a temp fix. But at least it will work for you for the time being :( At least it will be documented that it was replaced by Depot. And, you will have that on your side for the next time you have to call when/if it fails again. ;)

Grats, Ben! :) How are things working out?? :D
Isn't the Screen, keyboard, power... well everything amazing?

    Hey guys.

After lots of back and forth with Dell and an agreement to get my system exchanged, they said I had an 8/10 chance to get a Studio XPS 16 laptop. They also said I would get e-mailed with what system I get, but after more than a week I still haven't gotten an e-mail, so I went to my Dell account to see if there was anything.

Low and behold, there was a new system being made!

    My old specs:
    Intel T8300 2.4Ghz(?) processor, nVidia 8600M GT 256MB, 320GB HDD, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 15" 1440x900 res LED screen, and a 9 cell battery.

MY NEW STUDIO XPS 16 SPECS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:
    Intel Core i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
    9-cell Battery
    6GB, DDR3, 1333MHz 2 Dimm
    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5730 - 1GB
15.6 inch Wide Screen 16:9 1080p Full HD WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP,
500GB 7200RPM Free Fall SensorSeagate Hard Drive

OMG!!! HUGE UPGRADES! OMG! I also got the new ATI chip!

Edit: Preliminary ship date: 6/22/10 :(

Good going there Polarix, nice spec :)

Im on my first motherboard replacement (replaced on 1st of June), but already the temps are up in the high 80's/low 90's, so I've sent an email back stating the problems. Will just have to wait on what the guy says will happen next. (I live in the UK btw).

LoL...Hopefully it won't take that long at Depot. I think turn around is usually about 10 days?

Wowsa! :D Nice specs :D :D Hopefully, it will ship ahead of your ESD! Nice one on the new Chip! XD

I hope you get some resolve with your e-mail! If you don't hear back in a few days, maybe e-mail back the latter part of this week. : )

I sent it to the UK XPS Technical Support email through their website by filling out a webform.

    [email protected]

They've been pretty helpful so far, as the first motherboard got replaced 3 business days after my initial enquiry.

My laptop's out of warranty, so I can't use the chat either :(

I've currently got 4 years extended warranty but dell have failed to add it properly to their system, so it's been blocking me out from the chat. They've failed to rectify the problem even after numerous phone calls and so because of this and the technical issues I've had over the last 2 weeks (3 parts going wrong) I've written a letter which I'm sending and I'm hoping that they'll offer me a replacement laptop as a resolution.

Here is a screenshot of HWMonitor just after doing some internet browsing - something wrong here me thinks...

Emailed the Dell tech with the screenshot, will see what he thinks.

I've just played L4D2 and my temp peaked at 100 with an average of 92.

I'm about to call Dell (as in the UK there is no chat), but I'm not sure how I should go about requesting a replacement

Anyone got any tips on what I should say?

btw. This is the 1st issue I've encountered with the GPU, but I've had about 5 different parts go wrong in the last 2 years (I've got 4 years extended warranty)

    Adam:

 Yes, there is something wrong those are high temps! Can you try anything right now to help cool it a bit? Some compressed air? Sometimes that helps on the fans a little.

I hope, you hear back from the Tech. ....today!

    After internet browsing.....wowsa those temps...meh. :(

Hehe, I was pretty surprised myself, as the motherboard was replaced Tuesday, and the temps are already worse than they were before :(

Yes....thats not a good thing to have happening with those temps.

And, the Mobo just have been being replaced....I would flatly..but firmly & politely refuse another replacement if it is suggested.

You have the replacement as failing already in your corner.

Ask them how many more fails? You are tired of being inconvenienced and need a working, reliable laptop. Not one known for GPU failure which you are concurrently having.

Maybe this will get you closer to a new replacement lappy. : )
