Yes, they do tend to answer fairly slowly! : )

Maybe, you will hear something later today, even Monday at the latest.

    Hi everybody,
I’ve posted last time about a year ago, when my m1530 got the 2nd repair because of overheating problems and interruptions.

Now, with about one year on-site warranty left, the device get really hot again.
Sometimes, when heavy in use, it suddenly slows down even on high performance mode.

I´ve got regular near 100C CPU / NVIDIA temperature even in balanced mode with nothing to do.
Because of the heat (not sure) the plastic part on the left side bend up a few mm and didn´t fit into the chassis anymore.

So I think it´s time to shoot for a replacement unit.

Any suggestions to get this done? I am from Europe, Germany. Don´t know how customer support reacts over here, if asking for that.

Btw, the customer support was very good the two repairs before. Repair took place at my home within 3-4 days and was done in just about an hour.

    Thanks for that anyway.

first, make sure that your fans and vents are clean of dust if overheating is a bad problem.

second, you can't really ask for a new laptop. they determine if u get a system replacement based on the # of repairs which seems like 3-5. you should just try talking to them through chat or email and tell them your problem. they will probaby send another technician out to replace the motherboard / fan. and if the problem is nt fixed, tell them about the problem. if ur lucky then they will offer a system replacement.

A little update regarding my matter :)

They tried to deliver the computer last thursday and yesterday but since Im working I cant be home to recieve it, so I called UPS and told them to deliver the computer to the reception at my work on monday instead (looking forward to it).

Now I got a service tag for my computer so I could look it up on Dell support and the thing i didnt dare hope for happened! They have extended my "Next day warranty" & accidental coverage for an additional 2 years! :) :)

Im kinda in luv with Dell now for being so nice after all the troubles I've had :)

You're getting an outstanding replacement computer. The XPS 15 (L501X) is one of the top rated ones out there. I bought one back in November, and am so pleased that I just bought a second one for my wife. Looks like you have the 720p display, from looking at your specs. Very fast computer, and absolutely incredible sound from the speakers. I think you'll love it.

got the laptop today. i was kinda hoping for an i5 with more ram (only got 3gb)

    anyways, quick review
+720p screen sucks...asked for a 1080p screen (which is supposedly really good) and im gonna get one installed in the next week.

+no vga out. only HDMI. dell guy is sending me an adapter to allow vga (need it for my external monitor)

+sound system IS really nice. not as good as a real speaker setup, but wayy better than any laptop sound ive heard. theres actually a subwoofer lol.

+appearance...not as slick or beautiful as the xps m1530. kinda feels bigger, but m1530 is a bit lighter (with batteries removed)

overall rather pleased with the laptop. can't wait for the new screen.

    Hello everybody,

Within the last weeks my 1530 started to turn off while reaching up to 104C.
I called Dell and today my main board and heat sink unit was changed the 3rd time.
Now the laptop seems to run fine again. Let's see how long this will last.
About one year warranty is left to figure this out.

3 repairs & 3 failures..You should contact them and ask for a replacement. Your Mobo is going to continue failing..sorry. :(

You have more patience then I did after 4 GPU fails.

This is a very interesting thread as my M1530 has GPU issues as well (after 3 years but I didn't play games or used any GPU high perfomance application) - my heat sink has detached itself or better, the holes on the motherboard required to tighten the heat sink to the GPU are broken off the motherboard (which I have read about from other M1530 users and I am sure it has to do with the faulty graphic card) - however, I am still under warranty (for another 8 month).....
based on this thread I know that DELL is likely to replace my motherboard/ GPU instead of replacing the laptop as this is a first time issue (and it seems that 3-4 DELL repairs are required for a new laptop....).
But I am curious, the GPU of the M1530 is officially faulty - so, is replacing my broken GPU with an officially faulty GPU technically a repair? What is the legal status on that, does anyone know?
As much as I love my M1530 - knowing about the GPU issue and only a few month warranty left - I would prefer to get a laptop replacement from DELL (obviously wouldn't mind an XPS 15....) - but no idea how to argue - anyone any idea/ suggestion/ help?

My m1530 was more than just a GPU failure--it was failure incarnate. Sure it was a refurb, but that doesn't excuse something like this...
    1. Battery was defective
    2. Wrong replacement battery sent
    3. Noticed huge GPU throttling, had mobo and GPU replaced upon learning of this very issue
    4. HDD failure #1
    5. HDD failure #2 (after less than 3 months)
    6. Overheating and shutting down (idling at 80C or higher)

All within ten months. Talk about trouble-prone.

System was replaced with a Studio XPS 1640. I know those tend to be trouble as well, but with a 130w adapter and some liberal use of ThrottleStop, the replacement performs as it should. Specs in sig. Quite a nice replacement (especially the screen).

Alright, so I'm back. I was here sometime last year, with overheating issues and Dell didn't want to help because they're not cool and all they would do is give me a replacement. I didn't go through with it.

Fast forward to this week and my system has actually began to freeze up and crash. Sometimes the system recovers and Windows tells me my driver crashed and was recovered. But mostly, but screen freezes, becomes all colored, and then I have to kill the power. Sometimes upon restart, I get weird red squares and green bars and Windows displays in 640xsomething resolution and 16 colors or something.

My warranty (according to Dell) expired in September after two years. I could have sworn my system came with 3 years though. So I'm going to try to dig up any documentation I have of that. Other than that, I know NVidia extended warranties by a year so I should be covered by that. What should I do?

To clarify, all they wanted to do was give me a replacement GPU. Not an entire system.

Damn Salami, you've had a bad run!

My brothers died after 18 months, and we only had a one year warranty. So $996 was coughed up and it was repaired and given an extended one year warranty (my brother just wanted it fixed). The GPU failed  My brother unfortunately didn't give me any time to research this, otherwise I would have pointed out threads like this to the Dell tech on the phone. But then they'd know anyway

So fast forward to now (just out of the extended warranty), and the machine is back running over 100 degrees. I know some Dell techs, and had one clean/check the laptop as a favour (I'm IT for a uni faculty and do the buying as well, and we have ~400 Dell PCs and servers). The Dell tech responding by saying the laptop will fail again shortly.

So to the Australian's in this thread, have you had any luck with this GPU extended warranty? We have paid ~$3,400 so far for my brothers XPS1530... He loves it dearly, but I know it is going to die again quite soon. We also have three cooling pads, one at each location he games at. So it isn't like this laptop is neglected.

I don't even care about having it replaced, but a free motherboard/GPU would be nice for the time when the GPU dies.

FYI, the GPU is running back over 100 degrees again without a cooler, and pushing 90 degrees with a cooler... He doesn't take a cooler with him to school, and it has shutdown there.

GPU is soldered onto the motherboard. All M1530/M1330 with the Nvidia GPU are ticking timebombs with the cheapo substrate material used.

So I emailed this morning and a rep called me within a few hours. She adamantly refused to mention a replacement system. She just kept insisting that I send in the system for replacement. And she kept telling me that they have never gotten a second complaint after replacing the parts. I told her over and over that people have had multiple replacements and she denied it. She said I have to send in my system for mobo/gpu replacement which according to her takes 7 days (max 10). I can't be without my computer that long. And then what about if/when it fails again? :( Help!

^^If you have exhausted all your Dell Contact avenues (Dell Twitter/Facebook Cares, Unresolved Issues, e-mailing M.Dell), and this is the final resort...get it in writing "that if you do send the lappy in to Depot for repair, that it will not fail again & if it does they will replace with new". Get everything in writing at this point, going forward, even Employee Badge #'s etc.

Also tell them that the 10 day max is no satisfactory, you want it back w/in 7 days.

Unresolved Issues was the route that worked for me after the reps kept telling me to send in my laptop when I really needed it.

What happens if Unresolved Issues doesn't even reply to your email/form submission?

I contacted Tech Support, and they submitted my system for replacement due to my persistence in asking. Original M1530 purchased August 08, hard drive failure in early 09, system replaced around April 2009, this one has had graphics/overheating issues every 6 months or so, already had 2 services done on it.

My request for system replacement was rejected due to the time frame between repairs being so long (bit less than a year). However, I've had 2 M1530's as noted above, with the same problem. Throttling and music/video/game stuttering again.

They want me to send it into the depot (7-10 days). Can't afford to not have laptop with me. Irked at unreliability of system.

Should I email Unresolved Issues again, or email Michael? What are my options here?
