    Thank you.

I believe 1440x900 is the highest resolution available for this model which is the one I had and plan to replace. So, if it were available you're saying I would be able to jump up to a 1080p resolution right?

    Thanks again.

My M1530 came with 1680x1050 so I think you could upgrade to that. I don't remember if it ever went 1920x1080 but a search around this forum would probably answer that.

OK, I dropped something onto my Samsung screen. It's got a hole now that shines bright white at the moment so I thought I'd change the resolution at the same time...

Received some generic 15.4" from laptopscreenonline.co.uk (manufactured by AON), no Dell brackets at the top/bottom. Installed (thank you for the guide) - now it stretches to about half the screen width to begin with, is rather dull (not bright at all) and I can only get into Windows under Safe mode...

The seller started the usual spiel that you can't swap resolutions then agreed to take it back. I'm really annoyed cuz I spent couple of hours trying (and succeding) to fit the top braket onto this POS and now it's all over again to take apart, fit the old screen, find the one that fits etc...

Has anyone actually gone from 1680x1050 down to 1440x900?

Do I need a different inverter to get it all to work?

Are there any screens for M1530 that are not actually glossy? (looks good in a showroom - pain in the a*se everywhere else)

If it's not the right screen to start with than you're going to have problems. As far as I know the inverter shouldn't matter for resolution. But I am no expert, simply a humble user. Search around the forum(s) and see what others have done. I am sure I have read res swaps before but you have to have the right compatible screen. Sounds to me like you didn't get the right one.

Back to the old screen - all is well. Even with a hole in it it's still working fine-ish.

I guess the screen was wrong type to begin with. I can't see how the screen native resolution (lower) is going to cause problems for the graphics card that is driving higher resolution screen (normally).

Dullness of it is anothe clue - inverter I suspect is powering the backlight and if it's not a compatible you get abnormal lighting.

    Hello,

I've got a problem which may be similar to the procedure described. I have to replace only my front-bezel, because i have some scratches on the protective window of my webcam. Do I have to follow all the steps above or couldn't it be easier if I just want to replace the old bezel with a new one?

Please help me, thanks in advance

    Dell XPS M1530

Btw: Dell customers service would charge me 275 Dollars for the work and the bezel !!!

But its just the bezel that has to be replaced, the protective window is within the bezel and i do not have to do anything with the cam. As the bezel is just clipped on the backcover i though i could just remove it carefully by unclipping it?

Oh sorry, I misunderstood. It's hard to say, it's been a while since I did this operation. You might be able to get away with just removing the control console and hinge covers to get at the bezel. Again, check the service manual. it's not that difficult to remove the center console and hinge covers, give it a try.

I'm about to replace the screen on my 1749. Do you think this is similar to the 1749? I'll be using this guide as a reference anyhow. Thx. :)

I don't really know much about the 1749. You will probably want to find the service manual for your model and follow that accordingly. Reading over my guide will certainly give you an idea for the kind of work involved but specifics will likely be different.

Does the screen have any identifying sticker on it that says what make/model it is? You can try to google the part number and see if it matches up with other internet shop descriptions.

Also, check the linked thread here http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/238640-top-10-questions-about-m1530.html

It basically lists the most commonly found screens found in M1530s.

However if it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit. The seller should respect that it isn't the right part.

I decided to try and do this screen replacement using the guide and have run into a problem. I followed the instructions step for step, but now when I start up the computer and the Dell logo comes up, instead of a black background it is purple. It does this for the next step when it is loading Windows Vista also. After that, it goes black with no picture (even though the desktop loads up - you can hear the music).

Did I do something terribly wrong without knowing it? I should also mention that I had a chi mei n154c6 -L02 Rev.C1 LED screen and was sent a n154c6 -L01 Rev. A8 LED screen. Would this make a difference?

Does anyone know anything about my issue? Would it be an internal wire, or would I need to get different drivers for the display? I'm lost here.

I was using my tv as a display so what I did was I hooked the laptop up with the new screen in it to make sure the desktop came up. I then pressed Fn+F8 to make sure I wasn't feeding the video to the tv only. When I did that the screen would come on the laptop but it was just like flickering lights...some horizontal and some vertical lines.

    I'm thinking bad wire?

Hm, I am no expert but I had a thought. If the display is working fine on an external screen (TV) then something is possibly wrong with your display controller which is located on the motherboard. Something like a power surge could affect it. What made you change the screen in the first place?

    Crack in the screen.

Just to provide an update, I found that going into Safe Mode allowed the screen to show the desktop. After searching some online I came to the conclusion that it had something to do with the graphics card. So I uninstalled the Nvidia graphics card drivers, inserted my disc from Dell that has the original drivers on it and installed the Nvidia driver. This worked. I am now in normal mode with a nice screen.

However, there are still a couple of weird problems I am having now. The first is that the brightness control for the screen is weird. I find that when I use the Fn Arrow keys to decrease or increase brightness, the screen does whatever it wants. At the lowest point it is dim, at the highest point it is dim...somewhere in the middle is the brightest. I don't know how this happened? The other is that instead of a black background behind the Dell logo and Windows Vista startup, I am getting a purple background.

Both I can live with, but it is just very strange and would be nice to have it fixed if anyone has any ideas. I am afraid to upgrade my Nvidia drivers again in case it does not work with my screen.

hi. I've been having lines come up in the bottom of my screen, and this has progressively gotten worse. I'm assuming that the LCD needs to be replaced...

I was going to buy an WXGA+ screen, my original is the old samsung (have had no problems) 1200x800.

Would I need a new inverter board for this new screen?

    You're welcome!

From what I have gathered it is entirely possible to upgrade your resolution when swapping screens. I believe other members have said so in this thread, just take a quick read through it. What you cannot do is swap a CCFL for an LED screen (or vice verse).

Anybody here know where I could order a quality (LG seems like the best bet) xps 1530 screen in Canada?

My warranty expired this January and they swapped crap out with more crap(samsung) right before it happened.

    Thund3rball,

Thank you for this thread. I was able to replace my LCD successfully but it still does not fire up the display.

The part number is LP154WE2 (TL) (A7). Do I need a specific inverter for this LCD? or will the original part number for the existing one work?

I have been researching this and its a lot of trouble finding answers or part numbers.

Hey Guys, I have a M1530 15.4 WSXGA+ (LG screen) I have an issue with the screen. When I am on native resolution its impossible to read the texts...the screen is very blurry...too a point where I have to run it on 800x600 in order for it to be usable. It all started a yr ago when I dropped my laptop.

At first I thought it was the drivers but even in safe mode the issue is still there, so it has to be the screen. It will run fine for a couple of hours in (native resolution) and in the middle of surfing the net the screen will flicker and then it become blurry. Before it will work fine and then the blurriness will turn on and it will last for about an hour and then it will disappears. This past weekend its got worst. There are some pics that I upload but its kinda hard to tell from the pictures. Do you guys think its a loose connection or do I need to replace the screen? Thanks for the help.

Thanks chucko83 I was able to follow your step and remove the lcd without removing the keyboard!!!! I then try connecting the lcd back with the two cables on the back of the lcd (hopefully it was just a loose connection) to see if it fixes the blurry picture. Apparently it didnt, so I dont know if its the cables that are damage or the panel itself.

    Hi everyone,

I followed the instructions for replacement and it went very well. Thanks!

The XPS m1530 was working well after replacing the screen. The laptop had not been used for a few months so it needed updates. I checked it out and then, after I allowed the software updates - it powered down and would not power back up ....

I occassionally get quick a blue glow from behind the power button but it is a fleeting glimpse and no success in powering up.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

:) Thank you Thund3rball for posting this detailed picture view of this particular laptop's disassembly procedure. I have worked on many Dell laptops in the past, but this was my first XPS laptop that a client had me work on. I just needed to replace a defective inverter, but I wasn't quite sure how the front power button/cd player control panel would come off. Your instructions worked perfectly. I'll be sure to check back here if I should ever run across future laptop issues.

My brother has a M1530 (T9300, Nvidia 8600 GT, 4GB RAM, 1440X990 display, 9 cells battery) and all the right corner of the screen is becoming darker day by day... I believe that the lamp is gone... Wheseas the Notebook works perfectly (the battery lasts more than 3 hours) I think to change the screen...
Whitch screen I should choose for replacing? Does it worth in your mind?

P.S. Sorry for my awful english...
