I got the screen from Ebay from some seller called ScreenAid. I've had the laptop for a couple of years with the Samsung screen and it recently crack so I started looking for a replacement. I came across different forums saying the LG screen was better than Samsung so I bought the LG screen. I've hooked it up to the existing inverter but the only thing I get is a quick flash when I power on the laptop and then it goes black.

I think it could be the inverter. Are you sure you got the LG screen, and what did it cost?

It cost $120. I thought the inverter would be interchangeable though.

If it's the right screen the inverter should be interchangeable. It was for me.

Antony2, did you ever figure out what was wrong with your screen? I was thinking about purchasing the screen off Ebay from Screenaid

Thanks for such a detailed guide Thund3rball!

I cracked my LCD and called Dell to see how much it would cost to replace, and balked at the price. I was thinking of just buying a new laptop, but your guide is helping me get the courage to attempt to replace the screen myself.

Thanks for your screen replacement instructions. They were a great help.

A response to individuals wanting to deal with screenaid. I purchased my screen from them and they are difficult to deal with if you purchase the wrong screen. They gave me the run around for two weeks before allowing me to return it an pay the extra money for the correct one.

Anyway, I have replaced the screen and it seems to be working. However, the computer does not load up completely. I consistently get the blue screen after the Dell Media screen. Has anyone seen this before or does anyone have any advice for me.

I didn't do anything different to the computer except replace the screen.

    HELP

    Hi all,

Apologies for the thread necromancy :)

Managed to drop a screwdriver on my shiny 1530 LCD - Screwdriver won the fight...

Looking to replace my 1200 x 800 panel with a 1920 x 1200 as I watch alot of Blu Ray rips I make.

Am aware that the LG line is the best option - was told by one of the retailers here in the UK that my laptop only supports 1200 x 800 panels which is lies.

I am planning on buying this panel: LG Philips LP154WU1 (TL)(B1)

    http://www.lcds4less.co.uk/LG_Philips-laptop-lcd-screens/LP154WU1_(TL)(B1).shtml

Could someone please comment on its suitability for the 1530?

    Many thanks!!!!!

    Murray :)

Sorry for the thread resurrection (once again, wow this thread is old).

I recently, too, bought a screen from eBay from seller ScreenAid. The packaging was horrible (he just put the lcd in the smallest fitting box he could find and lined the front part of the LCD with a single sheet of small bubble wrap). It's a WUXGA screen (upgrading from WSXGA+ Samsung).

The biggest problem though, was this (take a look at the inverter cable):

    http://www.coufu.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/m1530-far.gif
    http://www.coufu.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/m1530-close.gif

My old LCD is stacked under the new LCD. The inverter cable on the new LCD is too short! This threw everything off. That and it didn't have the upper and lower bracket to hold the inverter.

I tried connecting all the cables still and plugged everything in without mounting anything. Like a previous poster about mentioned in a recent reply, the screen flashed when I powered up the computer, but no image came up. I plugged back my old LCD just to make sure everything still worked and yes, everything still works.

Can someone help me? And/or did anyone else encounter similar problem that can empathize and help me with what you experienced? Thanks :)

    Hi All,

Glad to see people are still finding this guide useful. I am sorry I am not more help with the details about which screens do and don't work or problems with inverter cables. To be honest I don't have any answers to any of those questions, they are beyond my experience with this screen replacement. I do hope someone else on the forum may be able to help you.

Just wanted to let you know I am not ignoring your posts and say thanks for the reps from those that gave it.

    Cheers

yup! Just had this problem a week ago. What brand is your new screen? AU Optronics? Chi Mei Optoelectronics?

You need a specific inverter that is compatible with the brand LCD you have.
Hence also why the cable is shorter..its because it needs a different inverter

Yes, I am using exactly the same screen here, no problems at all, works like a charm, but I think the proper screen is (TL)(A1) for M1530

Thanks for this reply! :) I am not sure what brand it is as it didn't come in a box or anything. It doesn't even have a brand name on the LCD. It's definately a Chinese generic brand. All it has in the back is a MADE IN CHINA sticker and a barcode with some warnings on it.

Where did you get the specific inverter you're talking about? Thanks again :)

Well, heres the thing. Laptop LCD screens are really hard to make and there are only a select number of manufactures, so theres not really a generic "knock off" brand of LCD screen (thankfully). If you could take a picture of the front and back and then post it here so I could get a good look I could most likely tell you what brand, or at least what inverter would be compatible with it. Also maybe a link to the page you saw it.

Thanks so much for helping me! Gave you some rep power for what it's worth :)

Here are the pictures of the new screen:

    Full - http://www.coufu.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/m1530-far.gif
    Barcode - http://www.coufu.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/m1530-screenaid.jpg

NOTE (EDIT): the new screen is stacked on top of the original screen so you can see the different lengths of the inverter cable.

And this is the auction that I bought the screen from:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...63738&_sacat=See-All-Categories&_fvi=1&_rdc=1

    ===============
    My other concerns are:
    - The new screen is missing the mounting plate on top with the 2 screw holes
    - The new screen doesn't have anywhere to mount the inverter on the bottom

The top two screw holes probably aren't too big of a deal and I can probably mount the inverter on the bottom by myself (using tape or whatever). But yeah, my main priority is getting this stupid thing to work.

well I searched and searched and couldnt find what brand that could be(make sure and check the front of the screen, along the metal frame for any small lettering indented).
I did however find this page, just thought you should read it

    http://revyu.com/things/stay-away-f...lstore-com-yallstock-com-yall-ect-/about/html

Its really tricky to find what inverter will work with what screen. There isnt just a list that shows it.

Have you tried running the diagnostics on it? Hook the screen up with the inverter and all, then hold fn while pressing the power button. It should go through the power leds blinking and some beeping. If it gets to a point where its stuck on a certain beep pattern, plug in the external monitor and see what error code it shows.

Wow thanks for that link... I am quite disappointed with ScreenAid, but to be fair, their communication has been very good (they usually respond within the hour) and they offered me a 80% refund in which I talked them up to refunding me 90%... so so much for that.

Well, if anything, lesson learned, and I hope anyone looking to upgrade their M1530 screens in the future also finds this part of the thread helpful. So what would be a good, compatible WUXGA screen for me to buy to upgrade from my WXGA+? Here's a link to what I have now if it helps:

    http://www.coufu.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/m1530-myscreen2.jpg

    Hi

First of all thank you for this outstanding guide. Replacing the screen was very easy because of this thank you.

    I do have a problem though, I think it's a cable problem...
Exactly 25% of my new screen doesn't work (see image)

I tried to reconnect every cable and blow a little bit on every piece to make sure there isn't any dirt on them.. No help, only the colors of the lines changed a bit.

    What should I do?

Unfortunately, no, it's not the same cable at all, not the same inverter (called converter I was said in the LED case).

I have a CCFL 1280x800 1530, and I wanted to swap for a LED 1440x900. I got just the screen, and now I need to shop for the converter (apparently ref. R770D) and the cable (apparently ref. N849D).

Has anyone done this ? Converted a CCFL 1280x800 to a 1440x900 LED ? I thought that the owner of that thread did just that, but since I don't find this in his tutorial, I don't believe it was the same setup.

Nope I did not go CCFL- LED, just CCFL - CCFL. I never made any claim to. I simply upgraded from the lackluster Samsung "grainy" screen to the nice and bright LG. I will edit to make it more clear in the first post. Sorry for any confusion.

Don't worry I was not complaining! I ordered in fact 2 screens, a CCFL 1680x1050 and a 1440x900 LED so I was able to install the CCFL without problems, except maybe for a funny hissing noise when I go to full brightness. Maybe my CCFL inverter (which is brand new and was coming with the screen) is bad.

I will report back if I make any progress on the CCFL -> LED conversion.

Thx for the tuto! Well done.

My screen is bad, basically I threw my controller and it hit my laptop and busted up the screen so I'll be doing this.

Another reason to stop playing video games and go to church.

My screen has a max resolution of 1280x800 so what screen do I need and how much? I checked ebay but don't which one to get.

That ebay seller says it will, but they don't give you the actual part number so I can't really judge by anything other than what the seller is saying. Not sure what you mean by "fancy".

He's not saying how he took off the brezel or whatever it's called but the media control center and the hinges which pop out by itself. The difficult part is removing the brezel while the connectors are still are still on the unit and he doesn't talk about how he did it. This makes no sense at all.

Okay, first of all that thread I linked to that lists all the screen types... if you know you have the LG screen at 1280x800 than the part number is listed there for you. So I am not sure why you are tearing your laptop apart to find the part number?

Second, the whole process really is not that much longer than this short cut method. Since you are confused, I would suggest just following my guide as written. I tried to make it as clear as possible.

Because I contacted Screenaid (Ebay) and they told me to take off the lcd screen and give them the model number.

That's what I was trying to do.

I will just order the screen and go the long route.

Because they want the part number, as listed in that thread. ;-)

You don't have to order the exact same screen. I swapped a Samsung with an LG. I am not sure about mixing resolutions though. I am sure if you dig around you can find the answer on here somewhere. That question has surely come up before.

I did it, tore the laptop apart and put it back together again and got a 1920x1080 lcd to replace the 1280x1080 lcd.

Man it makes a big difference, thanks for the op putting up this guide.

It's not perfect the bezzle kinda squeaks when I flip the lid but a screw is stripped and it's hard to tighten, I will fix this and also invest in a couple magnetic screwdrivers.

Bad screen? Or maybe the inverter board doesn't match? The lcd doesn't have any lips to mount the inverter....confused. What do you guys think?

yep! Screenaid has been extremely helpful so far. I think it's a combination of the inverter and wrong screen.

Aw boo. Sadly my MB is giving me grief as well. My AC jack won't charge the battery anymore. :( I contacted Dell once about it and went through the whole dragged out "support" process, just so after 20-30 minutes the guy tells me his system can't handle my problem right now and I have to call back to get the machine serviced. What the hell is that?

    This made me LOL.

    -----------------------

    @ Thund3rball,

I need to replace my LCD and not sure about all the resolution changes I've been reading about. My screen resolution is 1440x900 so I imagine I should be looking for the same resolution?

Anyway, it appears LG screens are superior to all the rest. Some site in Jersey has several LCD's for this model here.

I have a question about the finish though and what the difference would be between Glossy CCFL and this LED before I order one.

I would prefer to spend less money but if the more expensive one is worth it I'd consider it instead.

Thank you for the tutorial as well. I look forward to replacing the LCD after reading it.

Just for clarification inverters just power the CCFL tubes (if present). They are an entirely separate circuit from the LCD modules column/row circuit. Hence LED backlight displays do not have inverters, just a power supply circuit.

From my understanding going from CCFL --> LED is not an option on the M1530. If I was you I would stick with CCFL. You can change to a different resolution screen if you would like to upgrade in that sense. But LED is a different animal all together.
