Has it made much difference compared to what you had before?

How are the viewing angles on the lg screen?
-
-
What a day for a daydream. Daydream no more. Got my XK309 delivered today. Installed it myself. Took about an hour with distractions. Well worth the $$ even if you buy it outright.
-
it is so nice i would buy it outright if i had to -
I finally received my new LG panel today.
It only took the tech 2 hours! He had to install it and then take it a part and install it 4 times. The notebook would not power up, so he had to take apart the keyboard and wireless to check connections---that was done another 3 times.
I finally asked him where the plastic insulator ends were for 4 wires under the keyboard. He had removed them. I told him to put them back on and then it finally powered up.
I feel like my new notebook has been violated!
The new panel is a big improvement. It is not as bright as the Samsung, but it is much clearer and the angles of view are great. I don't have to sit exactly at a right angle to the screen without moving to easily view it.
Overall, I would say that it was worth the aggravation. Dell could have made it a lot easier, though. -

Those that have had their screens replaced with an LG one:
I currently have a AU Optronics WXGA+ 1440 x 900 screen with an LG screen on order to be installed on Tues.
Are there any marking on the physical screen when the engineer brings it to identify it's a LG Screen? Just want to make sure they have the right screen before I let him install it..
All replies more than welcome. -
-
The part that been ordered for my 1440x900 screen is Dell P/N: C930C, can't find any reference of that anywhere, hence I want to be sure before the engineer installs it. Dell support did say they were ordering a LG.... let's see. -
If you look at the first page of this thread, post #9, there's a list of part numbers. It looks like the one you orderd should be:
LG Philips LPLDF00 - Dell P/N: XP059 - Size: 15.4
But, P/N: C930C could just be the whole kit number. Just have your onsite tech open the box and look at the back of the panel before he comes to install it. -
Maybe a stupid question, but can't help to ask it: does this problem occur to Vostro 1500? Is it the same as 1530?
I just ordered a Vostro 1500 w/ 15.4 inch Wide Screen SXGA+ display with TrueLife LCD. -
My understanding is that the screens used on the Vostro 1500 and the XPS 1530 are the same - the XK309 (Dell's LG part number) is common to both units.

Hi I just got M1530 last week. I was reading it here because the title say so.
Anyway, on my order packing slip, it say this monitor was samsung but i went to device manager and looked up on hardwareid, it was LGL0301.
Is that LG Phillips? I hope so. But why did they put it as Samsung? Even on Dell.ca. -

Since you guys only seem to get horrible AUO screens in other countries, I thought I'd let you see what the AUO187B WSXGA+ screen looks like that Dell (Australasia) sent me as a replacement for my Samsung. No side-by-side comparison though.
It's pretty hard to accurately capture the colours etc with a camera. It's not blurry, like in the photos, it's very clear. I tried to take a close-up shot to properly show how there's no grainyness but the camera introduces a lot of moire effect that ruins it a bit anyway.
Viewing angle is basically 180° -

Hello everyone. After reading this post, I am little nervous to say the least. I ordered my XPS M1530 yesterday (2/24). I figure it would be worth my while to nip this problem in the bud and make sure the system is fitted with the LG while it is still in the factory!
Has anyone had any success with this? Or do I just need to sit back and wait to see which screen I get? I did talk to a guy via online chat, and he was some how able to check my order and determine that my system would be fitted with a Samsung. Thoughts? -
I tried that when I bought it and was told the LG was coming ...lol yeah right...but I got the rig and the sammy is great and I have compared it to others and I guess a few got lucky ..so be patient and look at it before you pre judge...you may be surpised ...cheers!!!

Gunned - When did you order your system? I just got off online chat with a Dell rep who told me the following:
"I'm sorry Mike, we can't determine which part your computer would come with, although it should be the LG screen. We have switched to using them now."
He also said there is no way for me to request this screen and guarantee this is the screen the final system will be shipped with. Who did you work with? Sales? -
1680 x 1050 = Samsung
1440 x 900 = LG -
yes..I saw that thread that said they discontinued them and that is when I bought..shortly after and the sales guy outright lied to me ...3 times I quoted the issue and gave hime the proper model # etc and of course I never did get it...I did call a CSR and make my point and and they were sympathetic with offers of coupons and product etc...but sales doesn't care as once they get the sale you get pumped through the system to solve the issues and they usually don't speak with you again ...although I wanted to call and blast him but I have moved on...heres to all the guys getting good screens no matter what the brand...

Just thought I'd post a screen update. I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I needed a new screen for my 1505 so I decided to take the Samsung out of my 1530 and put it in the 1505 and I purchased the LG XK309 for the 1530.
I installed it yesterday and now I'm very happy with my 1530. After seeing the difference I'm pretty disapointed in Dell for not using a better screen in their premium notebooks.
I was one of the few that said my Samsung wasn't that bad. I don't like to admit it, but I was wrong! The LG is far superior in every way. I didn't think my Samsung had the graininess problem until I saw the LG. IE pages look smooth and white now. The LG is just as bright or maybe a little brighter and the viewing angles are great. -
Well this is frustrating. Again, I would really like to ensure my system is shipped with the LG, but it does not sound like there is any possible way to do so. This is based on what I have been told thus far from Dell and the experiences Gunned has gone through.
I suppose I will just have to wait and see. Samsung makes fairly decent stand alone desktop LCDs, so I would hope that the M1530 Samsung LCD isn't too bad.
I am going to go out on a limb and state that I believe most of the dell sales reps wouldnt know the answer to these questions about what LCDs are used, they just primarily care about closing the deal. Heck, the first sales rep I spoke to on the phone this morning didn't even know what I meant about LG vs. Samsung.. he was going to dell.com to see what different screens were offered. When he only saw the one option for WSXGA 15.4", he kept telling me that there is only one screen available, and it is made by dell LOL. -
I also think some are settling for a lower resolution just because the odds appear better on getting the LG...so I'm sure dell is doing damage control and scripting the reps now as there all sorts of posts about different stories from every rep you talk to as they are not on the same page..some getting lgs easily and others stonewalled or even lied to...

I just got off the phone with Dell after being on for a total time of about 90 minutes. Here's how it went so far...
I first called the XPS Technical Support and explained that I have the SEC3350 screen and found it to be unsuitably grainy. I told him I was aware that this was a known problem and not an isolated incident. He put me on hold for a bit, saying that he needed to talk to his "resolution expert" to find out a bit more as he had not dealt with this problem.
He returned after five minutes to tell me that according to his colleague, both screens were built to the same specifications. I replied that many people online who had seen both screens could attest to the fact that the Samsung was inferior in quality compared to the LG. Eventually he told me that I needed to talk to customer care, only when he transferred me he sent me to the wrong department so my call was disconnected.
I called back up the home office customer care people and got through fairly quickly. I explained to the first lady what was going on but she didn't seem to understand and I certainly could barely understand what she was saying. She transferred me to someone else and I found out that I got disconnected because I actually need to speak to the education customer care and they are closed.
So basically I have to call back tomorrow. I'm interested in what they say but I'm not going to give up until there is some resolve. -
Okay. I have been reading several different posts across a few forums. From what I can tell, if you ordered a 15.4 inch Wide Screen WSXGA+ TrueLife LCD (1680x1050) like I did, then chances are you are going to end up with a Samsung LCD sec3350. If you order the WXGA 1440x900, you have a good chance of ending up with an LG. Does anyone even have a 1680x1050 LG screen?
I also want to mention that there are some positive posts out there for the Samsung. Some people do indicate the screen looks good, and I am thinking that I wouldnt have even been able to tell once I received the laptop if I didnt read this post.
I am still going to try and see if I can get the LG installed in the factory since I just ordered the M1530 yesterday. I have my doubts if I can make sure this screen is installed on my laptop. Either way, I am sure the Samsung screen still looks pretty good.
If anyone has had any success with getting their screen swapped out with the LG or requesting the LG during the build of their machine and actually received it, please post who you talked to or where to call please! -
Some Samsung SEC3350 look better than others. The one that I had replaced actually looked pretty decent compared to others.
However, the LG that is in it now is much better and not grainy. The viewing angles are better, so I do not have to make sure to look straight at the vertical screen without moving. The colors are better and more consistent.
The Samsung was brighter. The feature that was especially irritating was the glittery appearance and unevenness in the back lighting.
To increase the chance of getting an LG, it seems that ordering a 1440 resolution increases the likelihood that you will get one.
Reading all of the threads, there are few people who have received an LG in 1680 resolution initially. I am wondering if it was even supposed to be installed originally in the m1530.
If you read all if this thread, you will find various techniques that people have used to get one in their computers. For me, it was not an easy or satisfying process. The only way that I was able to get it done was to call customer service to return the computer. I was then going to order a 1440 resolution or a Vostro, instead.
YES, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. -
-
-
Yes people have received LG screens. Yes, some will say the Samsung is fine, but those same people if given the opportunity to see them side by side would be shocked at the difference.
I have had both, I currently have the LG, it is stunning. The viewing angles of the Samsung are absolutely terrible, so if you like having your face always perpendicular to the screen then you might like the Samsung. Otherwise the LG is far and away better, and if you are lucky enough you might be able to get one. You must be careful with your words when speaking to Dell, because "I heard it's better" will not cut it. -
That's me... I was shocked at how much better the LG looks and I thought I had one of the better (good) Samsung screens. -
Yeehaa My xps is getting a new screen.
Technician to arrange installation wednesday with my new lg lcd -
Thanks for your reply. A tech visit me today and he brought a samsung screen.. We've replaced the screen and it is a little better.. but the viewing angles are worse..I'm calling today with the XPS to request the XK309 or i will buy one myself..

Hi. I am having my LCD replaced on wednesday, and have asked specificallly for an LG (1680x1050).
I am in the UK, and was wondering what other UK people have experienced with regards to the getting their screens replaced with LG's ?

A tech is coming by in a couple of hours to install my LG screen!!! I can't wait.
I'll post my results once he's done. -
My 1530, with 1680x1050, ship date has been postponed one week twice.
Received this email today from cust. serv:
"As LCD monitor, 256 Nvidia GE force, DVD drive and Sound card are back ordered, there is a delay in shipment. Every effort is being made to complete the order. The estimated ship date would be on or before 3/3/2008. As soon as the order ships out, I will email you the status."
Or. ship date was 2/18.
So, they might be short handed on 1680X1050 monitores, no surprise, many of them are getting replaced/defective. -
Wow... I'm typing on an LG screen Hardware ID# LPLF300. I just got it installed, I have to say, this is what the screen should have looked like from the get-go.
It really is night and day. Good luck to everyone else trying for that LG screen, don't give up!
OMG I JUST GOT ALL THE PIECES TO FINALLY SNAP IN!!! For others who have been struggling with this, the key is on the bottom strip to the right of where it says "Dell" there is a cable to the right of that that just needs to be pushed aside. Push it gently aside using a skinny screwdriver or a mechanical pencil and then VOILA, it snaps in! -
I purchased a 'refurbished' XPS M1530 w/1680X1050 and on the order the code for the display is Samsung XR860. I've searched this forum and can't figure out if this is different than the ones everybody is posting about. I can honestly say I'm quite happy with it but then again I don't have the LG to compare it to. Guess for the $$$$ I saved buying it from the Dell Outlet I can't really complain.
-
-
Does anyone know of a way to tell via the online order information on dell.com which screen is being used on your system?
I wonder if the Samsung XR860 is the latest Samsung screen they are using. And if so, I wonder if it is any better?
Inquiring minds want to know... -
I was told today, point blank, "we can not replace your screen with the LG screen because we no longer use it. We only use the Samsung screen now."
Well excuse me if that's not a contradiction from when I was told at the time of ordering "don't worry about getting the Samsung. It's luck of the draw but we're phasing them out anyway as we've had enough complaints."
I'm going to keep putting the pressure on them and remind them of all their contradictions. I've already contacted the local NBC affiliate because I think this is just getting ridiculous. Yes, a grainy screen is by no means the end of the world. But it highlights how Dell does not seem to care about the opinion of their customers, especially when everyone and their mama seem to agree that the LG screen is better. -
Qld Australia -
Well I've been really through the wringer when it comes to my 1530. Banatec have been out about 4 times to repair it. I thought I had 2 lines of dead pixels, the guy came out, tried 2 LCDs and they were both DOA. Or so we thought. Putting a new mobo in gave us a picture, but its a was a bit borked. Luckily I still had one of the DOA ones by my desk, tried that and it worked!
I have no idea if its Samsung or LG, and find myself scrutinising the screen for brightness and viewing angles. I do have to have it turned up to max brightness, and if I start to view off dead centre, I lose brightness. Whether or not this is a sign of a Samsung no idea. I don't think I really want to be going through the wringer of trying to get this replaced after a week of visits from the repair guy (who was, I have to say, absolutely fantastic and a really nice bloke).
Everyone at my office has Vaio's. I may have to go have a look at how good their viewing angles and brightness looks...
Is it really worth hammering away for an LG screen? This lappie came from the outlet, do you reckon I should go from the angle of "you've put me through a week of repairs at work"? -
Just looking at my shipping notes. XR862?
Was my original screen an LG?
How can I check what my new screen is (without opening the poor thing up again).
EDIT:
Hardware ID is MONITOR\AUO2077
It is a 1440 res monitor.
EDIT 2:
Which is apparently a Samsung. Argh, I've done some digging. Looks like I've had an LG screen to start with, and now have a Samsung. Especially gutting since it turned out to be the mobo and not the initial screen that was the issue.
I've mailed the guy @ Dell to say I want a screen that is a direct replacement for the on my system notes, I wouldn't expect this to be too much to ask, eh? -
Anyhow, there's a huge difference between sec3350 and lplf300
I've got two 1530's side by side with the above screens
The difference is obvious even to people who know nothing about screens (my 8 year old daughter).
The LG is brighter, pure white, no grain, vivid colours.
I've had 5 laptops tll now (HP, MAC, IBM, Futzitsu). This one (after the swap)has the best screen of all.
I will upload photoes asap.
Greetings from Greece -

Right, going to hammer them for it. May as well persist for the best.
