That is the kit number. It could be any one of the three manufacturers. You will not know until you or the tech open the box.

    Good Luck!!

Can the M1330 WLED display be grainy too? 'Cause if not I might consider going for a M1330.

Nevermind my post above. I'm just gonna give it a try. A lot of people here are getting it replaced so I have good hope that if I get a Samsung I can get it replaced. I'm about to order the lower resolution, the higher resolution is just too expensive for me. XP059 is the part number for a WXGA+ LG screen right? Or has it changed, 'cause people are also talking about DW306?

I recieved by 1530 from the outlet the other day. It has an AUO screen (1400*900).

Didnt notice it at first but comparing it to some other laptops in the house and my work one theres a definate issue with a slight "sparkle" - I am assuming this is what people mean by grain.

Other than that the display is bright and crisp with excellent viewing angles, no dead pixels. Actually in comparison to other laptops apart from the sparkle it is much better in terms of viewing angles and colour reproduction (the whites are very white).

Not sure if the sparkle is going to be an issue though. Tempted to send it back try and get an LG screen but then the worry is I will get a screen with no sparkle but poor viewing angles or colours.

Okay, I'm lost. I'm reading hundreds of complaints but I'm also reading posts claiming Dell isn't shipping Samsung anymore or that people who ordered 1400x900 screens are most likely to get a LG screen. I would like to order my M1530 this evening, but really want to have this sorted out. I live in Europe, The Netherlands if that makes any difference.

PS: I want to excuse for making so much posts, but I'm 13-years old and English isn't my home language so after reading so much English information and so many people telling different things I'm a bit confused. :p

As far as I know Dell are still shipping Samsung. Dell don't neccessarily see it as a manufacturing problem and therefore are not going to discontinue any one make of screen.

If you look back to last year there are similar complaints (some of these were LG and there were rumours that LG was being discontinued and replaced with Samsung!).

If Dell believed the LCDs were faulty they would simply send them back to Samsung, or whoever it may be. Probably Dell knows the problem but views it as within manufacturing tolerances much like most manufactuers view one or two dead pixels as not a problem)

I think if you order the 1400*900 you have a higher chance of an LG or an AUO but to be honest it seems the chances of recieving a grainy screen are higher than not recieving one.

Hmm, well, I'm just gonna do it. There really are a lot posts of people who have their screen replaced so that gives me good hope that if I get a bad screen I'll manage to get it replaced too.

Most people tell that a tech comes to their home.. is this included in the standard warranty or do I have to pay extra money for this service?

I take that as a big compliment, thanks! :)

Defective or not Dell would only likely stop accepting screens from Samsung if there were a sufficient number of complaints to create a real problem for them AND they had an alternative to keep the factory humming.

Dell ships 4-5 million (? anyone know) laptops a quarter. Addressing 5000 complaints is a .1% of the shipments. That's an annoyance.

A few weeks ago, I posted that I had received my FOURTH M1530 (third replacement) with an SEC screen. It was actually much improved over the others; there was no "sparkly" look to it and there was only a very minimal grainy appearance. So I decided to keep it.

Fast forward to about two-and-a-half weeks later. I went to Best Buy to purchase some stuff and I decided to stop by the laptop section to look at their laptops. I hadn't done this earlier because, well, I was lazy. But since I was in the store, what the heck. Wow, is all I can say. The difference in screens is unreal. Basically, the display models they had up had screens that -- despite having the LOWEST resolution -- blew my screen away. It was crystal clear, no grain AT ALL. In comparison, when I got home, my screen was definitely "acceptable," but basically only if you think that's as good as things get. The fact that I pumped over $2500 into my laptop and had to settle for this junk really ticked me off. (By the way, I looked at the System info and the display models were NOT SEC.)

So bottom line is that I called Dell today and returned my M1530 for good and I'm going to start fresh, place a new order. I will tell anyone interested in the XPS line that the remainder of the computer was top-notch. So I'm not anti-Dell quite yet. Also, when I called them today, they said they could guarantee that I would get an LG screen replacement installed by a tech, but by this time I was like, "screw it, no." I don't want some lame high-school graduate tech banging on my XPS with a screwdriver again. I want some Malaysian doing that!

perhaps ring up dell and ask to have your monitor upgraded???

anywho, i got of the phone with customer service, as it seems not only is my monitor dodgy, but the webcam doesnt work at all (software works fine, they even remotely accessed my comp to try and fix it, to no avail). The tech is coming tomorrow to sus it out, and also check out my monitor, hopefully ill be able to get an LG screen out of him or one of the "better" looking samsungs

Just received it today. Vostro runs great. I already installed 4 GB Ram that I had. Can't install the bluetooth driver, but I
    I'll figure it out later.

Now, I wonder if I can find a Samsung LCD here in Romania, so that I can compare it w/ my (got lcuky) LG. :)

I just phoned up Dell UK with the intention of ordering the M1530 but when i wanted to specify a LG 1440x900 screen they said they only do the samsung, what do i do now?

I can't have the awful samsung screen so didn't order.

I told them about the problems but they acted like they didnt know what i was on about, seems like they are still trying to fob people off with inferior screens to clear stock :(

From what I've been told, Dell aren't doing anything but LG for the 1440x900 screens in Europe now.

Quote from Noboru on a different thread:

"Since jan 18 every wxga+ display you order on a m1530 will definately be LG. But be aware that this only applies to Europe!!! This has been stated by a Dell employee in a German notebook forum and users who have ordered since then have confirmed that they only got LGs. So my advice would be to go for a wxga+ (in Europe ) since the wxgas are much more likely to suffer from quality issues."

I really dont think there is any problem with the samsung 1440x900 screens, i think its only the 1050.

I could be wrong, but not too many post on the 900 res?

Fingers crossed, you do have a 1 year warranty with the Laptop at least.

That is what I thought, also. That is, until I received this piece of crap SEC3157 panel that I am waiting to get replaced--hopefully today.

There is still a Dell "lottery" for LCD screens.

well hopefully the UK and europe if different.

Fingers crossed, I cant stand spending almost a months wages, only to find I have received a piece of crap screen, that needs to be replaced 3 or 5 times.

If this happens to me I will just tell them to give me my money back and I will buy a sony FZ series or acer or or or something LOL

I know the Dell is the sweetest looking laptop I have seen, But why should we have to trade Beauty for the beast, You know what I am saying

I just do not have the time to keep phoning to an indian call centre who do not know what i am saying, and its not their fault because Dell do not tell them the problems, their job is just to sell and TRY TRY make us happy.

They are like first line defence.

Hi guys. I just stumbled across this thread and the question wether there only will be LGs on the wxga+ resolution on the m1530. If something goes wrong I don't want to be the a**hole wo advised everyone to get the wxga+ an in the end everyone got random screens again.
The only thing I can tell is that there was this Dell Press Reviews Manager 'Markus Schuetz' who made this statement on the German forum of http://www.notebookjournal.de/ He has a post count of around 300+ posts and seems to be credible as he also has some insider informations regarding upcoming Dell products.
There are also many editors and reviewers of the site active in the forum and I'm quite sure they would've kicked this person if he just pretended to be some Dell employee.
    But now some quotes/sources:

    http://www.notebookjournal.de/forum/showpost.php?p=54886&postcount=193

The most important information is this sentence: 'Seit dem 18. Januar sind die im XPS M1530 gelieferten Displays mit WXGA+ Auflösung (1440x900) ausschliesslich von LG.' which basically means: 'since january 18 the wxga+ displays coming with the m1530 are solely made by LG'

Another user from Austria then asks if this situation will only apply to Germany and Markus Schuetz' answer is the following:

http://www.notebookjournal.de/forum/showpost.php?p=54936&postcount=229 which means that it will apply to all of europe...

To date many users in German forums have confirmed this statement and it seems like he told the truth. I don't now any users from other countries though who have confirmed this statement but I am confident or at least hoping that it also applies to other european countries.

tech came today, to replace my webcam, i told him about the monitor issue and he said it would be no problem to replace it with the LG model and that they had plenty of them lying around. He was very helpful and informative, now we just have to wait for the new monitor to get to mine. will post back later.

but yeah, i guess if you want you monitor replace, try and get a tech sent out and hopefully they will be able to get the change done for you. (best thing was i didnt even have to persuade him or mention the lg monitor, he said he would change it no worries)

when my tech came with the first replacement screen it was a samsung, he called dell and they told him they only had 2 models of 1680*1050 screen and they were both samsung, what a load, as I set here in front of my lg screen and type this, finally got the lg on the 2nd set of calls to dell. Good luck hope you get the LG.

I have a feeling that US customers are getting a better deal, i tried about 6 times and none of the tech support guys in the UK would send out an LG, they all said that they are no longer available and that the Samsung screens had been fixed.

I have requested a full refund instead of a replacement screen since they continue to decline me an LG. I will wait a few months and see if the situation changes i know the new CPU's are out and hopefully LED screens to boot...

Good luck if your a UK customer on getting an LG

The problem is, I am already out of my 21 day return period, but it technically did get extended, since there was constantly work being done on it. But eventually, I just got a replacement, got it on 2/22. It's really not worth the hassle.

Besides the only thing I really care about is gaming capability and the Penryn really don't upgrade gaming performance. It wouldn't be worth the trouble. That was a dumb question.

I got my laptop in a couple of weeks ago and I believe it has a Samsung screen. It doesn't look grainy to me although sometimes the viewing angle can be a pain if you are looking at the screen from the sides. Other than that, no complaints.

Just a quick edit: I have the 1680x1050 screen.

Nice. If I didn't have a ps3 I would hook the laptop up to my HDTV. Although one gripe I have is that the blu-ray playback software that came with the laptop doesn't play profile 1.1 discs. I patiently wait for a patch, heh.

My replacement will be here sometime today and from the service tag I already know it's the Samsung panel again.

I will be surprised if it's not grainy. My last unit arrived of Feb 26 with a horrible Samsung screen.

Just got mine today. Pretty well loaded up m1530 with the 2.6, 4gb and allthe bells and whistles... GRAINY SCREEN. SEC3350.

It's not even the grainyness that gets me - it's completely uneven brightness and the viewing angles are junk...it changes if I move my head 1/4"

See attached picture. The picture did make it show up even worse than it is, but you get the idea.

That is a good photo of the typical SEC3350. Get an LG and compare it to that and you will see a whole new world.

The tech came out and replaced my SEC3157 with an LG LPLDF00 today and I am stoked. The best thing is that he did not screw up the computer while installing it. I finally get to keep my machine instead of sending it back! :D

Dell has redeemed itself in my eyes---finally.

From the looks of that picture, your keyboard is in pretty bad shape, too.

That is a good photo of the M1530 humpback keyboard. They are not a rare species.

Just got it out of the box. Same crappy Samsung panel, grainy and poor angles.

    It's going back.
