    Hi Issac,

Could you share how you manage to get the LG screen, and what number to call (the manager?) ? I'm in Singapore too, I just finished talking to the customer care and they said that I'll always get the same LCD brand...Samsung, tech support guy is helpful but they cannot specify particular model.

I donno whether I should request for the replacement if not sure which brand I will get.

    Thanks.

You need to change the order over the phone with a Dell CSR. Dont pay more than £20 extra and if possible get it thrown in for free or better.

As an example on top of the evalue discounts on the website there are usually discount coupons available (just google Dell coupons). I got 10% off then a further 5% cash back by ordering through Quidco.co.uk. Then I rang up and changed my screen to the 1440 x 900 screen stating I was concerned about the widescale grainy screen & viewing angle problems with the 1530 and threatened to cancel. After after talking to his supervisor was offered a free screen upgrade & and a further £10 off.

Couple of other things, you may need to ring a few Dell CSR's to get one who will play ball as some are just robot's, just keep ringing back. Also before commiting to any order over the phone get them to email the full spec to you and double check.

If you order through the Dell UK website and select Laptops for Business (rather than Home) you get to choose your screen resolution.
It's changed since I ordered mine and now is offering only:
    1280x800
    1440x900
1920x1200 ! Didn't even know you could get this.

Hi, ordered my M1530 today, it has the M809C part for 1440x900 lcd panel. The exec of course did not have any idea about the panel manufacturer, as according to him there was only manufacturer (whose name of course he did not know) and only one manufacturer for a 1440x900 lcd panel.

So my question to all well-informed friends over here, is this M809C an LG-Phillips panel? Please tell me how can I check on dell.co.in who is my panel manufacturer.

As FloydTheBarber said earlier on this thread " M809C -15.4" Widescreen WXGA+ (1440x900) TFT Display with TrueLife(TM)
This is the generic part number for all of the panels. Ask for the invoice, the part number for your LCD should be specified there

Well, I googled a little and discovered that the part number belongs to an LGP lcd panel. I saw that reply by FloydTheBarber, and so far that has been the only one of its kind. But still it is creating doubts in my mind.

Also, when Dell uses a generic part number for a particular lcd, they do not include manufacturer code in the part name, (eg. LGP, SEC or AUO), instead they write the acronym VESA, for Video Electronics Standards Association.

So please tell me if any one over here has received a screen that was Grainy or Non-LGP and stated under the part number M809C.

OMG that's terrible. I know my screen is a bit grainy but not at that level.
Normally if you can took that kind of good picture with camera, I assumed that the sparkle effect will look worst in real life.

be sure you "zoom in" to the high-res image after it loads. The initial view, reduced to fit your screen, has a severe moire effect (looks like a coarse, off-kilter grid or screen) that appears due to the rescaling of the image to fit most viewers' displays.

that being said, even when at full-size display of the image, you can then see a finer gridding/graininess to the display (but which appears to be "real").

I guess I should make another attempt at getting my SEC replaced soon. First try, they sent another Samsung...

It almost makes me sad I looked at this thread.

I've been waiting for my XPS M1530 since monday, and I've been itching about how awesome it was going to be, and if there were any cons.

I did do research beforehand, and I was initially going to wait until June or so, but there was a 15% off on XPS systems > 2000, and it was just too good to pass up.

So now my XPS is in transit to Australia, and the pickup date's been fixed at The 7/04, but looking at this thread, well, I'm not too sure, I'm actually scared of what I might get.

Ive looked at my Online Reference order, and its got me down for 1 XR860.

Eugh, this suspense is killing me!

    Damn, sucks.

I'm sorta hoping that I got my system built in Taiwan or somewhere where they've cached all the LG screens. =]

I mean, I did get my order built + shipped pretty fast, so it has to be close right?

This is the hardest part about documenting this issue... Most of the pictures had this effect, but I finally got a few without. I may try to get more photos before the screen is replaced to do some before/after comparisons.

hmmm... im trying to get my invoice, but it says invoices arent available online, then theres a link to request one, and it asks for info like the order number an such, and when i click submit, it just brings be back to the page that says invoices arent availiable online and to click here to request one. ughhh, anyone have any ideas?

Also, on my order status page it says...

320-6078 15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LCD with 2.0 MO Camera for XPS M1530

Does that number say what LCD maker it is?

Requesting your invoice will not help you much since it is unlikely it will arrive before your system. Contact customer support and ask for your service tag. Then logon to your Dell account and go to My Systems & Peripheral under Support. There you can enter your service tag and see all components.

No that number does not say which LCD you have.

Just got to open my Replacement for my current XPS, and the screen just sux!

I was a little upset seeing what my specs were before I got em (XR860) but I still had the slightest hope wishing it would be good. The moment i turned it on and put the brightness all the way up on performnace mode, I had my co-worker take a look at it to get an unbias opinion.

He told me with his broken english, "why so dark and not clear angle?"

Needless to say im on the phone right now holding for a dell tech

I may have been wrong about that part number being generic, it just seemed like a generic part/kit number since I have never saw anything about it in relation to LG screens.

Dell seems to be adding several numbers for each manufacturers - I wonder if there is an actual difference between them or just a ploy to confuse the people calling tech support.

Has anyone here ever had the chance to see both the origina LG and the 'V2' LG? If so, is one 'better' than the other?

You can request it, but requesting it does not make any difference. They will tell you that they will use whatever LCD's that they have in stock.

Alright, i found the model number for my 1530 that should be arriving tommorow. Its a W345C. What screen is that?!

EDIT: it actually says W345C LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WXGA+, TLF, SAMSUNG..., V2

So i guess i am getting a samsung? Is this the model number that everyone with the grain has? I searched the forum and couldnt find that number anywhere. Is it possible that Dell could be using different samsung LCDs due to all the problems?

i sure will. Im crossing my fingers that its a new samsung model :D

Also, do you think the V2 could mean anything, such as version 2? because in the past pages on this thread, noone with a samsung screen has had that V2 on their system info page...

W345C LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WXGA+, TLF, SAMSUNG..., V2

One more question: if the screen is aweful and I attempt to get an LG, they wont make me send the laptop back will they? It seems like everyone here has been having tech guys come to them to install new screens. It wouldnt be so bad if it were that way, because at least u could use the laptop while you wait for a nice screen.

LiTh07, the drawback of having a tech come over is that he may be incompetent and may end up scratching your laptop, or worse..
On the other hand, at least this way you can make sure that the replacement LCD is an LG so he doesn't 'replace' it with a screen that's just as bad (which can happen to people who send theirs in).

That was actually the reason I got a replacement. The tech came so I showed him to my XPS which I placed on top of a plastic sheet. Once he started working my XPS, he removed the plastic and the end product was light scratches on the cover and also he somehow broke the hinge.

The part that pissed me off was my XPS had the 1280 res and he had just switched it out with something good but now I had a scratched laptop.

Called dell and got a replacement, which btw came with much better specs
    (WXSGA+ vs WXGA , 160g 5400rpm vs 200g 7200rpm , 1g vs 3g ram) so i couldnt complain except the monitor.

Hopefully another tech will come by and he can switch it out without breaking anything this time

This thread really make me nervous. I just ordered one on Monday with 1680x1050 screen...I had to call in today and change it to 1440x900 based on the poll on this forum since it seems to have much better chance of getting LG screen. I don't know why we have to go through this potluck crap.

"The grainy issue has been solved from the beginning of January, however this issue is for a specific batch of faulty LCD’s we had and does not affect your system.

With regards to the Samsung/LG debate we are still at the same point. "

HOWEVER, we have Dell in our office today! Trying to get them on a contract of ours.

I may leave my XPS lying around and try and get into a conversation with them.

"Would you like a coffee? Oh hey, how about looking at my screen quickly...."

    RE: scuffs on your XPS

Be aware that the XPS case can quite easily pick up wax off a table. I thought my lappie had been scuffed, but the bloke said "get a slightly soapy tissue"... a few wipes later, scuffs all gone.

I have a Dell m1530 with the Samsung 1680x1050 screen and I think it looks awesome! I believe many in this post are overstating a non-existing problem. If there is any grain at all it is hardly worth noting, comparing this screen to the one on my Dell inspiron 5150 (1600x1200) there is only a very slight difference and only noticeable with a white background.

I admit I have not seen the LG screen, but I really don't care. This is aslo my fifth lcd that I have owned, and I would rate it second only to my Samsung 206BW. I would definitely not waste the time/hastle of returning my laptop to try and get the LG screen.

What you believe not realy relevant here since you admit you have not seen the LG lcd in action. Non-existing problem? You have to be kidding...

What's the monitor hardware id for your M1530? You can get it from the device manager.

Just had the tech replace the screen... The difference really is night and day...

There were some cable routing issues, but I was able to fix them by pushing the cables into place and snapping the screen bezel back together.

There is only one minor blemish on the screen, and it's a tiny spot near the bottom. It's not a dead pixel, it's like a smudge about 3px across that is underneath the screen. It's hardly noticeable, so I'm not too concerned about it.

Viewing angles are much better, the picture is crisp and clear, and it doesn't hurt to read it.

I think it is - after all how many people have seen the LG screen? I to have a 1650 version and am perfectly happy.

I suspect the LG screen is inferior to another brand if further comparison was available.

Good for you. You're one of the few here to say they like their Samsung LCD in the M1530.

So far there's only been Samsung, LG and AU LCds in the M1530. The LG has been reported countless times to be the superior one on all 3 resolutions available.

It would be nice if people actually compared their M1530 fitted with the Great Samsung LCD to other LCDs instead of just making blanket statements.

We just happen to have multiple laptops in my household.

    From worst to best:

    M1530 with Samsung RW985
    Thinkpad X60
    Thinkpad T60
    Alienware Aurora M7700
    M1530 with LG WD306

I also took a M1530 with a Samsung LCD to the Dell kiosk to compare it to a M1530 with a LG panel. Guess which one looks the best? The Samsung doesn't even meet the viewing angle specifications in the M1530 user manual.

I'm sure Samsung makes good LCDs but so far they seem to not be available in the M1530...

I just got off the phone with XPS tech after an 1hr 40mn call and he is not willing to switch out the monitor!!

He was telling me that he can only switch it out to the same thing and that its only a misconception around the forums that the samsung is bad!

I had the tech put his superior on and even he was a stubborn a$$ and wouldnt help me.

Guess ill just have to call a little later and wish someone else could help me with this

My old 1505 had a Samsung 1680x1050 screen and my new M1530 LG screen 1680x1050 blows it out of the water. Much richer in color and brighter
