    hey everyone,

Just got my 1530 an hour ago and i LOVE it! however, it does have the samsung screen (SEC), which im not happy about. The screen does look gritty and grainy, and it doesnt seem to be as vibrant as it should be. my system sheet online told me the product number was W345C but now when I open up my device manager it says i have an SEC 3157.

I plan on using this laptop for a while so I guess I'll go through the whole process of getting an LG =[

any tips? What model numbers are the LGs that I should ask for?

I also got my 1530 an hour ago and I have the samsung screen as well. The model is w345c and I also see some graininess. The screen is also pretty dim. I will be calling dell to get the panel replaced.

The screen you are talking about has a different part/model number, but unfortunately has the same problems..
Too bad, I was hoping that the 'V2' samsungs would be better :\

The thing about dell is that they keep telling me they can only change out the LCD to the same exact one i have.

How am I suppose to go around this?

My screen is a 1680x1050 SEC3350(Samsung) and I still love it. I don't know if there is a bad part number or not, but if you do get a Samsung don't automatically assume that it's crap.

For those of you that just recently got the system what size screen did you order? Mine should arrive sometimes next week I even changed from 1680x1050 to 1440x900 to reduce the chance of getting Samsung, I was hoping that the newer units will all come with LG....guess not.

From what I have seen if you have a Samsung assume you have a poor quality LCD. You like yours, good for you. :D

So how are your viewing angles on your great Samsung?

yea mines a 1440x900 and its a samsung. Its not terribly bad, but theres grain, and even worse, its not bright enough.

since im getting major keyboard flex, ill get the screen changed at the same time.

Also, does anyones remote stick out slightly when its in the laptop? i dont think its normal.

Well I just got my Dell M1530 with 1680 x 1050 truelife display on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, its the crappy SEC3350. It's so grainy that images, websites, text, videos and DVD playback look absolute rubbish. The viewing angle is the worst I've ever seen.

Yesterday I rang tech support and jumped through all the hoops. I told them what they wanted to hear and they said they could replace the screen. I then told the tech that I wanted an XK309, and he checked with warehouse and said that this wasn't available as they were completely out of stock due to a production shortage, and they could only replace it with another SEC3350 or return the laptop for a refund.

I bid him farewell and decided to ring back this morning.

Got ANOTHER tech who was fully aware of the problems with the SEC3350, as soon as I mentioned grainy he told me "hold on for a bit, I'll check with the warehouse to see what we can replace it with".

He came back after 10 minutes and also told me that he was checking for XK309 stock, but they are completely out due to a problem with the production (which is what the tech told me the previous day!).

He told me he was sending out an NX380, which is the AUO screen. He also told me that if I wasn't happy with this, phone back and we'll go from there.

So I'll see on Tuesday how good it is, because thats when the tech is coming to replace it :)

Anyone here have experience with the AUO NX380 screen???

You will not know until you receive it, but the reports of AUO panels have indicated that they are worse than the Samsung.

Seems that the AUO187B is the screen that Dell Australasia replaces all their crappy SEC3350s with.

I hope that my AUO replacement looks like this, although I can't see how clear it is from the photos (I'm looking at it on my SEC3350 right now and there is no way that this screen will reproduce these pics vividly), the viewing angle does look fabulous!

I will ring back today and double check the DW306 part number (I was quoting the XK309 when I spoke to the tech), but if not, I'll be happy with an AUO187B that looks like that!!

Which number were you calling for the help? I've just had no luck at all. I've had the screen replaced once already and despite them saying they would send the LG screen another samsung turned up. Any chance you remembered the name of the guy you called or his number?

I was just calling the generic sales support line and it has been nothing but heartache.

Well, I had this problem, and I used chat to talk to 2 people. The first one told me that the XPS screen was functioning as designed and said they weren't going to replace anything. The second one said that he could only have them replace it with another Samsung screen, so I should return it and order anther through customer care, specifying the screen.

So, should I order another (and have to pay over $100 more in tax + shipping) or keep at it with support and see if they'll send me the LG screen as a replacement. If anything, I'll just tell them that I have the LG screen and hope they don't check.

I returned my M1530 five times before I obtained a non-Samsung screen (it was worth it). In doing so, my understanding is that they will NOT purposefully refuse to replace a Samsung screen with a non-Samsung screen. It seems that they have almost no control over what screen you get. In other words, it's a little bit of a crapshoot. I'm not sure what you mean about shipping, though; every one of my computers was shipped to me and back to Dell without charge.

I ordered the 1-day shipping so I could receive my laptop quickly.

For now, I'll wait until 9AM PST (apparently their tools were under maintenance until then, according to a rep) and keep on contacting them, being sure to leave if I get the same guy through the chat, then eventually keep calling them until they send out a tech with the LG screen (or ANY screen that isn't grainy).

hey guys I just got my m1530 yesterday

my first laptop ever... I do like the laptop overall but I did end up with a sec3350 display and it does kind of hurt my eyes after trying to use it for a while.

so I want to call and see if I could try the whole replacement ordeal... anyone had any better success calling customer care over tech support or should I just go through tech support and cross my fingers?

really hope I can get a LG replacement... I'd hate to have to return this laptop

I'd call customer care, tech support will just tell you to reinstall drivers...

If Dell tells you that the XK309 is out of stock, they probably don't know what they're talking about

That's what I was told, but the supervisor reluctantly told me that he'd send a dispatch for the xk309, but that I would likely receive the Samsung, because they wouldn't have the XK309 in stock. What did I receive? The LG Phillips XK309.

Ask them for the XK309, and tell them you know it might not be available, but you're willing to take a chance with it anyway.

    Thanks for the info.

heh... I tried calling and they can't verify any information atm because their systems are being upgraded or something... so the person said I can call back in 2-3 hours. Just my luck.

    edit:
well finally got to talk to the service people. I ran the tests and different config changes, etc. Of course didn't do anything so the guy said he'd send out a technician. I asked about the part and he said he can't pick which part they send out... I guess I'll have to wait for monday when the tech person calls me to setup when they can come replace and hope that I can get a LG screen... sigh

I just rang the Dell XPS support line, and spoke to whoever I got...if you don't have any luck the first time, just ring back, as everyone says something different.

I'm in Australia, so it may be different if you're in another country.

I'm just glad they are sending out an AUO187B, which according to what I've now read, is supposed to be good.

The tech on the phone actually said there were no XK309's available as he checked, so he'd send out the AUO. He admitted there was a problem with the SEC3350s, which is great.

I forgot to mention the DW306 to him though, so if this AUO screen is rubbish, I'll be calling back :)

    Hey guys,

Thought I'd take some photos to compare my samsung lcd to my decent 22" viewsonic. Now the viewsonic is a pretty decent lcd, but its nothing AMAZING. Anyways, as u can see, the samsung looks grainy and dull, and lacks brightness. I sure hope i can get an LG because i love my m1530!

Well, my M1530 is getting here tomorrow, I'm praying to all the Gods of hardware that I get the LG.

Incase I don't, for future reference, whats the product codes for the LG screens, I've heard about the XK306 and the DU306 or something, are these the right ones?

What are some good tactics for getting one of these secured and safe from being subbed, because I'm going to be pretty pissed if I have an XK306 locked in for shipping and it gets cancelled at midnight and replaced with a god damned SEC.

Jeez, this issue is eating me up.

I don't think I'll be re-ordering for a while if I have to return my laptop either, I bought this when the 15% sale was on, and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay extra for something that should be cheaper, and should be quality.

XK309 shows as LPLF300 in device manager
WD306 shows as LPL010F in device manager

    I have the WD306 and it's stunning.

I don't think there's any good tactics in securing a LG lcd for your M1530. Every time you call Dell you're going to get a different story. Look at it this way, it's called the LG panel lottery...

    Good luck.

Alright, made my first call today to get my screen replaced. Im very unhappy. Ive been on the phone for an hour and a half, with 6 different people.

First, i called xps tech support and talked to someone who had me connect with them to check the brightness settings an such. Then i go on hold forever and his rude supervisor comes back on and has the nerve to tell me that the screen is functioning properly and i cant get a new one. I then told him I was expecting to get a nice screen like the LG at the dell kiosk, not this dull and grainy samsung. He told me that I cant get a replacement because everything is working normally. I then asked to be sent to someone who would be able to get me a replacement. He again said that i couldnt get a replacement, but he would foward me to customer service.

From there, my call got rerouted to india somewhere. I ended up talking to several more people, all of which would get my info down then transfer me somewhere else. Finally, my call was dropped and i was back at step one.

I decided to call back XPS tech support because at least i could understand their english. I got a nice guy named Joe on the phone who explained to me that hes deffinitly heard of the problem and i would need to talk to the sales return department, but they wont be open until monday. He did tell me that i will be able to get a replacement, but that they wont be able to specify an LG screen, so I'll have to take my chances.

So i got the number for the return department and ill be calling them tommorow.

Does anyone whose been through this before have any tips!?

I would say the odds of getting a LG are about the same when ordering a replacement screen or laptop. With a lot of perseverance you might get a replacement LG lcd shipped to you. You experience today calling Dell will most likely be repeated more than once and you might never get a LG lcd.

Keep getting Dell to send you a new units, you can ask they extend your return period because you are unsatisfied with what they send you. Here in Canada they add 10 days to the date you receive your replacement unit.

    Good luck

Lith I'm in the same boat as you are. I actually recieved my computer in the same hour you got it. The hardware ID on my panel is SEC3157 and the quality is disappointing to say the least. I've talked to numerous reps and I've gotten them to send a technician over with a new panel. I called again to confirm that a technician was coming over and tried to verify if it was an LG panel that they were sending. I got two different answers. One rep told me that another Samsung panel was sent out. I called again and the second rep told me that they couldn't find out which branded panel was being sent to me. He told me that I have a one in three chance of getting the LG branded panel. The Dell product number for the panel they are sending me is C930C. As of this moment I am assuming that another Samsung panel is being sent. I am going to wait for the technician to install the new panel and if the quality of the screen isn't better, I am sending the computer back. We have a 21 day return period and as long as it has technical issues, we don't have to pay for shipping. Since they are sending a technician over, I think I can make the claim that it was a technical issue. Here are some tips on how to handle the reps.

    - Every rep will tell you something different so call numerous times.
    - Be polite and try your best to sound intelligent. Don't lose your temper.
    - If you go nowhere with one of the rep then call back and talk with a different rep.
    - You have to go through the whole diagnostic and technical support process. For me the rep installed new video drivers and updated my BIOS. The rep even tried changing my resolution and asked me if it made the quality better (dumbass).
    - After that whole ordeal try to have them send you another panel. I don't think they will take returns and send you a new laptop unless you are doing it through warranty. If they won't honor that then say you have to go to work or something and that you will call back later. Get the case # and then call back and talk to another rep. Sometimes you can even lie and say that the previous rep was in the middle of getting a technician out to you and that you got disconneted.

Anyway that's my situation so far.

the rep I talked to was also named Joey... maybe it was the same guy. He was pretty nice and he set up for a technician to come replace the monitor but when I asked about the LG part he said he couldn't specifically pick which monitor would be set out and he wished me best of luck and that he hoped I got a LG haha.

I think definitely try to be patient and polite... my experience is starting out with a "bad" reaction will only get you one.
I don't know how most people word it, but I just said that I had some lcd bleeding at the bottom of my screen and that the major issue was that the screen was giving me headaches, which it was, due to the grainy/fuzziness.
My system was new so I didn't have to like reinstall the os, and I told him I updated all the appropriate stuff, already tried different resolutions, and that I tried outputting to an external monitor which didn't have the grainy issue.
I did have to go through some small tests and like running the diagnostics, but it wasn't super long.

I got my confirmation email today saying that a tech person will be contacting me on Monday. Hopefully all goes well.

:( It is tough with 154 pages of this thread...so I'll ask a question which has been asked probably once per page here...

What is the BEST way to go about getting the LG replacement xp059?

    Simply keep calling and pestering?

Man the more I read about this problem the more I think I'm gonna end up having to return my 1530. It's scheduled to be ship tomorrow and hopefully I get LG screen. I remember having to go through this type of thing with my blackberry phone and it wasn't fun.

I spent almost three hours today being bounced around dell. Each section had between a 15 and 30 (XPS support was 30) minute waiting queue. I started with XPS support and was told they couldn't do anything about specifing a brand of monitor due to the way their system works - they transfered me to Customer service who apparently are able to specifiy the model and I was told they had no idea what I ment and they sent me back to standard tech support before I cold tell them not to. Standard tech support said the same as XPS, that they couldn't do anything about the model of screen unless customer support said so and they transfered me to XPS Dell Care support who told me there was a 30 minute wait again and that they wouldn't be able to help me before the end of the buisness day but they would call me back some time tomorrow. (I called at 2:30 pm initially and they close at 5:30).

Basically it was horrible and when they call back tomorrow I just hope it will be sorted out and not more of the same.

I ordered my XPS M1530 last week and it is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. I just checked the service tag and mine also says RW985 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, VIDEO ELEC. STDS. ASSOC...., TLF, SAMSUNG.

I am hoping that it has an LG screen, otherwise I am sending it right back and don't intend to go through the hassles of trying to get it replaced.

ok this is a very long thread.

how do you find what part number your screen is?

mine looks ok so far but would rather check as i specifically asked for an LG screen, There is no reference to manufacturer type on my order or packing slip, just resolution and trulife

    Thanks

    M

My system was shipped this morning. I pulled the service tag and what did I find? Friggin' Samsung screen...oh well I'll just have to wait and see if I can live with it I'll just pretend like I never read this thread if it's not too bad, but if it is I'll return it and get alienware. Not worth my time trying to go through all the hassle replacing the screen when there are other options out there.

    M1530 1440x900 WXGA+ Samsung
    Location Dallas, TX
    Bought through EPP program

    If this helps narrow down.

For what it's worth, the grainy screens are usually associated with the highest-resolution screens, not the 1400x900s.

Kamehame, are you saying even if it's a Samsung screen it has a chance of not being grainy? I changed my screen option from 1680x1050 to 1440x900 just so I have a better chance getting LG, but I didn't. I will wait and see if the screen is doable althought it's not my biggest concern because the notebook will be hooked up to my 1080P HDTV when I'm at home, but when I'm out and about or at work I'd like to have a good screen to look at. Thanks for pointing that out now you give me some hope lol.

That's my understanding. I believe it's on this very thread somewhere. The main problem seems to have been with the 1680x1050s. Of course, the only way you'll know is to see what you get.
