Hi people, I'm from Argentina so I'm sorry for my english. Now i have an AUO panel 1280x800. It has very nice colors and not grainy for me, but i has poor viewing angles and a lot of baklight bleed.
I called dell tech support for my Inspiron 1525 and request for an LG panel. So they acces to send me it. It's 1280x800 resolution and i would like to know the part number for this LG type panel. Also i want to ask if there are grainy LG panels with 1280x800 resolution?
Thanks very much. -
Got my m1530 today, SAMSUNG screen, aboslutely awful. I thought people were bing a little overdramaic about the screen quality.. but holy crap this screen is a pile.
Im going to return this laptop if i dont get an LG or a LED.
i would expect this image qulity on a 500 dollar laptop, not a 2000 dollar laptop -

Has anyone ever gotten a Samsung 1680x1050 screen that actually looks good? I am getting a M1530 on Friday and I already know it's coming with a Samsung. All this talk is making me worried I paid a lot of money for a brick.

I got my m1530 yesterday and wouldn't you know it.... grainy Samsung screen. I ordered it on 4/29, so Dell is still using them. It's such a damn shame because everything else about this laptop is really nice!
Here goes nothing... emailing customer support. -
Is it possible to just return these units and order another one? (without a reboxing charge?)
Or is everyone contacting customer support because they desire a technician to come and replace the screen on-site in order to expedite the process? -
I just got a 1440 sec3157. I think it is very clear but it seems a bit blurry when i watch hd films. Also a little lightbleed at the bottom but i dont see it unless the screen is completly black.

I will be replacing the LCD. However, we don't have the freedom to choose a specific part number.
2:06:59 PM Agent XPS_Elias_137091
The samsung model is the WSXGA+, the other one is actually an upgrade.
this guy was a rude prick, the worst tech support ive ever dealt with. everyone else i have ever dealt with from dell has been VERY nice
also, he said that an on site guy would contact me within 2-3 business days, dont i have next day on site? WTF?
I didnt even have a chance to ask, because he ended the chat -

Hello
5:11:54 PM Customer Frederick Estera

What can i do for you today ?
5:12:08 PM Customer Frederick Estera
My screen is fuzzy
5:12:22 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Sorry, no, I am not aware.
5:12:29 PM Customer Frederick Estera
Oh
5:12:37 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Sorry to hear that.
5:12:47 PM Customer Frederick Estera
Basically, Dell is using Samsung and LG manufactured LCDs for this resolution
5:13:08 PM Customer Frederick Estera
It is widely known among the Dell community, in fact, this affects some Lenovos as far as I know
5:13:19 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Well, if your system came with a samsung, we can send you another samsung.
5:13:37 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
It is listed on the 1330. I have not seen any on 1530.
5:13:47 PM Customer Frederick Estera
The LGs?
5:13:58 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Sorry. No.
5:14:03 PM Customer Frederick Estera
There were two part numbers for those. XK309 and DW306
5:14:22 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Not anymore.
5:14:36 PM Customer Frederick Estera
When did this happen/
5:14:37 PM Customer Frederick Estera
?
5:14:52 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Sorry, cannot say.
5:15:07 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
As in your warranty, we can replace the screen for the same model.
5:15:22 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
XK309 is not available by technical support any longer.
5:15:57 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
With a replacement screen being needed, we send a request for our dispatch team to send another screen.
5:16:22 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
The dispatch team will review your original order and send the same model as what came with the system.
5:16:50 PM Customer Frederick Estera
Hm
5:18:12 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
We now offer 1 screen for each resolution, WXGA, WXGA+, WSXGA+
5:18:56 PM Customer Frederick Estera
And they are only Samsungs?
5:19:52 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
All 3 are by same manufacturer.
5:20:27 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
The only way to change screens is on original purchase when system is built.
5:21:03 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Then, if screen replacement is needed, we match by screen type, WXGA, WXGA+, WSXGA+.
5:22:05 PM Customer Frederick Estera
If one were to replace a screen himself
5:22:16 PM Customer Frederick Estera
How does this affect warranty?
5:22:53 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Your system warranty covers original configuration, original components, original operating system loaded by Dell.
5:23:13 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Our spare parts team only have these 3 also by same manufacturer.
5:24:16 PM Customer Frederick Estera
If we bought one of the LG screens that were previously sold with the M1530 (previously, because it seems they are not being supplied anymore?) from another source, and installed it ourselves, does that affect the condition of hte warranty?
5:24:38 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Yes.
5:24:48 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Your system warranty covers the original way you got the system.
5:25:33 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
If you replace LCD, and something happens to anything related, like system board, video card, etc, then you are responsible for all costs to replace parts.
5:26:49 PM Customer Frederick Estera
Oh
5:27:33 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Dell has updated the website. I just checked and was not able to find a part to buy another screen for xps 1530 on support.dell.com.
5:28:01 PM Customer Frederick Estera
So I cannot be answered, as to whether or not only Samsung LCDs are being shipped with this laptop?
5:28:38 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Yes, what you see, is what you get.
5:28:58 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
In my list, it says manufactured by TLF.
5:29:08 PM Customer Frederick Estera
TLF??
5:29:19 PM Customer Frederick Estera
This is new/?
5:29:33 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
No, I think it is for samsung.
5:29:43 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Same manufacturer as you have now.
5:29:46 PM Customer Frederick Estera
Hm
5:29:56 PM Customer Frederick Estera
So it really seems like LGs are gone
5:30:18 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
I know that we do not have them.
5:31:08 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
You can look online, maybe even contact LG direct to see about purchasing. Please remember what I advised above about the system warranty and the original setup only.
5:31:34 PM Customer Frederick Estera
Hm
5:31:42 PM Customer Frederick Estera
Returning and reording would just mean a 0% chance of an LG LCD?
5:32:18 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
LG screen is not even in my list.
5:32:31 PM Customer Frederick Estera
For spares or for initial production?
5:32:33 PM Customer Frederick Estera
or both
5:32:39 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
On support.dell.com, under parts and upgrades, it does not list LG at all.
5:32:54 PM Customer Frederick Estera
interesting
5:33:05 PM Customer Frederick Estera
I guess that was my only question
5:34:39 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
XK309 is now substituted with RW985 which is what you have
5:35:14 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
By the way, this is not limited to just the 1530. It applies to all LG / Samsung.
5:35:29 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Thank you for choosing Dell, have a good day.
5:35:39 PM Agent XPS_Jonathon_159030
Is there anything else that i can do for you ?
5:35:51 PM Customer Frederick Estera
I suppose that is all
5:35:54 PM Customer Frederick Estera
Thank you
is this true???
i ordered on 4/28, got a samsung screen today
it's grainy. i don't think it's horrible, but it seems that everyone that went from samsung--> LG says it's a night and day difference. -
FloydTheBarber Notebook Consultant
It is not true at all. A few people have received LGs lately, and while warranty does mean that they replace the LCD if it stops working with the same one, in your case they have shipped you a faulty component to begin with. I think you should try the chat one more time, and if they still don't agree to replace it return the laptop and re-order.

Samsung Vs LG
Just a quick review.
I ordered a refub 1530 wsxga+. It came with the samsung screen. If I had not red these forums I probably would have thought that the screen was ok. Not too grainy but the colors were very muted. whites were gray too. my computer needs to last and the display seemed to be the weak part of the system
SO since I got a good deal on the computer I decided to buy the refurb xk309 from dell(250 but it can be found with a different part number for around 200 on ebay)After installing the screen(with help from my tech savy friend) it really blows away the samsung. Again my screen was not that grainy but the LG colors a crisp and vibrant. The text was slightly blurry on the samsung which is not the case with the LG. Part of the issue with dell is that the LG screens are amazing. Compared with my friends macbook the samsung screen looked good, but compared with the LG it looked like crap. Ive heard Samsung makes some great screens but it seems like the ones they have put on the 1530 are poor. I believe that my Samsung was as it was supposed to be so replacing with another samsung would be a waste.
I hope that Dell finnaly realizes that the screen is one of if not the most important aspects of a notebook for many. Also it is hard to believe that every custermer service agent denies knowing about the samsung issue.
Deeppowder -
I think my main issue with the Samsung screen isn't even the "grainy" look, but the horrible viewing angle. There isn't enough of an optimal viewing angle to have one sweet spot. There are always dark spots that get better as you move your head in front of them. "Chasing shadows" as some would say. Horrible. If I would have seen this in person before buying it, I would have steered far and clear.

It showing as PNp Generic?

Result of 2,5 hours of speaking with India: got replacement of whole xps m1530 due to the grainy samsung screen (I request for the replacement after 3 months after purchased unit)
Finaly got great value engine with Lg wsxga+ lcd. Thanks good tech-men from India

All right, so I'm brand new to the forums, but I have been reading a lot on the m1530, and thought you guys might like to know this: I order my WSXGA+ laptop 4/27 and received it 5/05. After reading about the grainy screen, I was really worried, but since the laptop is a graduation gift, I cannot open it until after graduation (5/11, this Sunday). However, I received some papers today from Dell, and they included my service tags (as far as I know the only other way to find them is on the machine) and I looked it up on Dell and found this: "DW306 LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY..., 15.4WSXGA+, TLF, LGP, V2" meaning that I have an LG screen according to the papers, also meaning that they are shipping WSXGA+ screens with LGs... I'll let you know the final details when I open it on Sunday.

this is my screen it says on my build sheet.
Module,Liquid Crystal Display 15.4WSXGA+,Lg Philips Lcd M1530
its the good one? -

It really baffles me that a company can sell a flagship machine with such a huge flaw. I will certainly look at dell with a more skeptical eye from here out. -
I just saw a review on youtube and the guy had a LG WSXGA Display and it was glossy can anyone confirm that? -
All XPS's are glossy. It's a trade off. Matte isn't going to have annoying reflections but glossy tends to have better color (unless you have a Samsung WSXGA+ apparently).

Im on the verge of returning my m1530, this screen is horrible, im going to try one more time to get my screen replaced with an LG, and then it's getting sent back.
-
Holy cow, I've just finished reading pretty much this whole thread. I ordered an m1530 today, pretty tricked out. I'm hoping to Jesus I don't get a bad screen. If I get a good Samsung, I'd be fine with that. I'd like to thank Rhodan (nice FAQ) and all the others who have spent their time trying to help all the poor-screen-people, as I'm fairly certain (with my luck) that I'll get a bad one too. I'm just wondering how many replacements I'll have to go through to get a good one.
I know this has been asked, and yes I have used the Search function, but I suppose there's absolutely no way of telling which display will end up in my laptop? My 'item number' in the confirmation they emailed to me for the screen is '320-6692.' Some say the invoice would have this information on it, but I can't find it. I hope I get lucky. I'll let you all know whether I end up with a good/crappy LG/Optronics/Samsung. Pity, I have two Samsung CD drives and my friend's got a Samsung TV, they all work fantastically.
Edit: Wow, that autolink is annoying. I'm making 'FAQ' link to Rhodan's post so other readers aren't misled... -
does any1 have a Full Hi Definition, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1920x1200) and how was the experience?!
-
and yes does it come in LG?
-
I got a 1420 with the 1440X900 screen and it's pretty awful (AUO 1447). I was at Costco yesterday and saw a 1420 with a 1280X800 AU Optronics screen that looked great. But I don't want the lower res screen. My initial email to Dell customer service said I'd have to return the notebook and order a new one. I'm going to try calling to see if I can get a replacement screen instead.
I assume this is a calculated move by Dell. The grainy screens are probably cheaper and most people don't know the difference so it's worth the "risk" to Dell that someone might actually return a computer solely b/c of the screen. But it doesn't do much for advanced users in terms of building brand loyalty. If I have to return the unit, I'll give them one shot. Otherwise, it's on to another brand. But what a PITA! -
UPDATE: They're sending a tech out this week to replace the screen - manufacturer = VSA (?) (they don't have any Samsung or LG or AU Op screens she said.) So we'll see how it goes. (BTW - I'm currently hooked up to my Dell 24" 2405FPW and it looks awesome - wish I could lug this thing around all day.
)
-
24Peter, be cautious to your tech. I requested a replacement of the samsung screen, and they sent a guy to do it. He was not professional, he scratched the screen. You'd better 1) provide the tech a nice table and suitable chair, otherwise, he may screw up sth, not intentionally but lack of space. 2) ask him not to remove the protection of the screen until he finishes all the reinstallation. 3) you'd better take care of the parts he unscrew off your laptop. Put them SEPARATELY and nicely on the cushion comes from th replacement box. 4) one last thing, pay attention to the replacement box, I got a brand new LG screen, but I do see someone get a refurbished one. If u see that coming, refuse to install, and call Dell asking for a new screen and tell them otherwise you will return the laptop. Good Luck
-
Ok, I finally got the chance to open my m1530 that I got as a graduation present, and I'm actually on it right now. I'm in the US and I ordered 4/27 and it was delivered 5/02. It is MONITOR\LPL010F (LG) and it is absolutely gorgeous... so there's hope for new buyers. God I love this thing.
-
My tech guy just left. Not only did he bring another Samsung display, but the thing came cracked. The box had no damage on it, so it most likely left Dell like that. To top it off, the tech guy didn't assemble the thing correctly and now there are gaps everywhere. AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! Calling Dell (Hell?) to get my damn money back.
-
-
im on attempt #2 right now.. im 30 minutes into it.
been transferred 5 times now -
on minute number 40..... one guy i talked to mentioned that this is a common call.. said the LG's cost more (for them)
-
Let it be known that Monday, May 12 2008, one hour into my phone call with dell, i was given a dispatch number for my replacement XK309 screen.
BYEBYESAMSUNG -
Congrats, Hazard! What did you do to get them to budge and give you an LG?
-
i told them a supervisor mentioned that they would do this if my first replacement samsung wasnt up to par
she really did, but apparently there was no record of it, but it seems like just me saying that was enough to get the job done -
well how about this, i go to check my service call status today and it says
Call Status: Suspended Due to No Customer Contact
WTF?
so i called the cell phone of the guy that came and changed my screen last time (really cool dude by the way) and he's working out of state this week so there's some other guy working down here this week.
and now im dealing with the most inept techs ive ever dealt with at dell.. i had to explain my situation about 20 times to the same guy and he still doesnt get it (my service call got suspended for no contact, how hard is it to understand??) now im being transferred for the third time
and ive taken time off of work for this? Im pretty upset right now. -
And the dude showed up WITH AN LG!!!!!!!!!!!!
To all of those reading this wondering if it's worth the effort: IT IS. It is SUCH a huge difference. As others have said, I finally feel like my new laptop has arrived. Thanks Notebookreview contributors, you're my hero!
