no, i'm almost positive you have to have the sata drivers during the install of xp, even w/ sp2.
did you extract(right click-extract) the file 166200 to a folder? you can use 7zip(freeware), winzip (trial) or winrar(trial), just google for them. The driver should be in it.

Yeah, how is everyone working without the WI-FI drivers?
Anyone have an update on Windows XP - M1530 - Wifi Drivers? -
Very nice guide, had no issue with installing xp with the sata drivers. I pretty much had all the drivers installed but just missing my wi-fi driver. Looking for Broadcom 802.11. Could someone post a link to where I could get this driver. I have been looking everywhere and cant seem to locate it. Thanks
-
Where can I find the drivers for XPS M1530 WiFi?
-
Hello peps; below are the steps I took to resolve my WiFi issue;
At start up select F2 to enter setup
expand the Security selection
scroll down to Wireless Switch Change - Change from Denied to permitted
scroll to Wi-Fi Catcher Change - Change from denied to permitted
save and exit;
I installed driver R115321 for my 1490 Dual Band WLAN Mini-Card -
What doesn't work with XP on the m1530?
What about bluetooth? -
bluetooth works perfect, can connect with my Sony Ericsson W950i very good. Don't remember where i got the drivers but i think from Dell site M1330 XP drivers. Can upload them if you want
-
The file R173412.exe doesn't contain any files labeled 166200.
I have 7 files - 2 inf:
iaahci.info and iastor.inf
Which one do I select? -
A big thank you to all - got XP running and everything seems to work. Haven't tested the hdmi and I can't be bothered to install the finger scanner as I can type faster.
Nice to have XP on.
Thanks! -
Hi all - thanks for the extremely helpful information.
However, I still have one major issue with XP on the 1530 (XPS) - I have no sound whatsoever via HDMI. Has anyone been able to resolve this? If so, which drivers are you using for the soundcard? -
Hey thanks a lot for this guide ...I got every thing working with my DELL XPS 1530 on windows sp2 pro...
here i would like to add something more
For bluetooth : use this driver R161378.exe
For Quickset : use this driver R180759.exe
To get rid the sleep problem ie the monitor doesnt turns on when returning from sleep ,i ve update my nvidia drivers from here
You should use the modded inf from the laptopvideo2go to install this driver ....
I ve also updated my BIOS to 1530_A08.EXE -
is it working?
then this is the best news
-
Thanks for the original post. It was very helpful.

I have used nlite to install the intel matrix storage controller driver in the XP disc but it still isn't letting me boot. Instead of showing the drives, it asks for the driver. The message it comes with is "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer."

ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R161378.exe
Well, just to make it easy for everyone -
hi, i have an xps m1530 and have just finished installing the drivers for most devices on my laptop. So far, I have everything working apart from the following:
1. wireless card--> my problem here is weird. I can connect to my neighbours open access wireless router, but when i try to connect to my secured wireless router, I contantly (bar one time tonight) get the "limited connectivity" error mossage.
2. webcam--> I followed the instructions contained at the very beginning of this thread for installing windows xp on an m1530 machine and installed all the drivers. i found some worked and some did not. However, without installing any driver for the webcam, the webcam was setup automatically in xp as a usb video device. I worked ok, but it had no functional buttons attached to it- it was quite simply just a video on the screen with no controls.
I tried installing the driver for the webcam which i downloaded as instructed to in the tutorial at the start of this thread, but i got an error "setup has encountered an error and needs to close".
EDIT--> I have now successfully installed the webcam and have it working with the dell webcam manager.
So im wondering if anyone has any idea of how to get around this? I was thinking if i uninstall the existing basic webcam driver and install the proper driver with the dell webcam animation software (you know the one where you can turn on the camera and put a hat on your head in the video?) it may then work, but i didnt want to take that chance without seeking advice first.
i installed dell quickset and it is working grand. though when i press the dell media direct button on the dash of the laptop, i get the following message "unable to launch dell media experience. Please install this software and try again". what software? where do i get this software from?
thanks very much for reading/replying to my query (i know it was a long read).
thanks once again.

I was able to install install on my XPS M1530 but I having problem to find some drivers.

cheers -
i just put XP on my 1530, and i cant seem to get any of the USB ports to work, or the wireless...it will detect my network, i log on to the network....says its acquiring signal...then nothing..any ideas?

I've successfully updated to XP and have everything working correcty (including SATA) however I'm having issues with the laptop not waking up. I'm d/l the video driver someone suggested earlier. It's not the latest one on the list, but if this works, I'll be happy
Test out later versions another time.
For those of you with the SATA issues, here's all I did. I did not slipstream anything into the xp install. I did have to go into the bios and initially change to ATA mode. After I got windows up and running (chipset, audio & video drivers installed), I ran the matrix installer, fully restarted back into windows, then restarted again and go into bios. switch back to ACHI mode (or whatever it was) and it worked fine. On windows start it re-recgonized my SATA HDD, auto-installed some drivers, required another reboot but that's all. -
That driver did not work, it says it's not the correct driver for my hardware. I suspect, like all drivers from nVidia, they are not compatable with Dells video cards. Or at least they say they are not.
I have the driver that was listed in the driver pack in the original post. Are others who are using that driver having the same problem?
I have the 8600M GT video card. -
You need to download and use a modified ini file in order to install the nVidia drivers
-
anyone know the answer to my question (bottom of page 7) about the USB drivers and wireless?
-
What 3dmark06 results are people getting with XP installed? Without overclocking.

Cheers guys was a great help, XP running smoothly and very fast

Hi guys, great guide but am having a major problem with video. I'm a developer and when I run ANY program with a grid it goes very very slow. This includes opening a table in SQL 2005, or any program I have written that contains a data grid. Even if only a 5 columns and 3 or 4 rows. I have tried several versions of nvidia drivers, 174.93,174.31 and the Inspiron 1520 driver. Still the same problem. Any experienced the same problem??

Well my hard drive just crashed, BSOD in loop mode.
Ran dell diagnostics & received this error code:
Error Code: 0142 - 2000-0142
Hard Drive 1 - Status 79 - IDE Device Failed - Self - Test Failed
S.M.A.R.T. - Short-Self Test - 0f00:0650
IDE Device Fail - Self Test Fail
Searched dellcommunity - seems to be a hard ware failure do to excessive heat.
Get a laptop cooler and do not have this on your lap or on any blankets!!4
Once i pick up a new hdd (was considering SSD but not worth $600 right now) I will do this nlite install as I have before.
If you still do not have bluetooth, search dells drivers for bluetooth turn on -
kanadianiceman Notebook Consultant
Ok update,
did not do the slipstream, but a manual install using windows cd, installing drivers, and then installing service pack 3.
all seems to be working now, i have a laptop cooler under my laptop seems to be working fine now .
QUICKSET DRIVERS go into run and type "location of file" -s
so im my case it is e:\drivers\quickset\setup.exe -s, this will install the quickset drivers and not give you an error message (basically does not do an OS check)
BLUE TOOTH DRIVERS - use m1330 ones (vista will work fine)
I did not install the finger reader drivers as i do not use it and its just one more ap sitting on my taskbar.
all is well, system is super fast.
My old hard drive when I move it every so slightly i can hear a slight hum.
I am still backup up the hard drive using a 2.5" external hard drive, and it is now clacking bad for the last 150MB of the 60GB i transfered -
Hi, I'm new here. I just ordered my 1530 and want to install XP. So I red the 2 topics about this but its a bit confusing. So can I install WinXP just after disabling SATA in the BIOS (my friends suggestion) or should I follow the steps with the nLite program thing?
-
Personally I would follow the superb instructions at the begonning of the thread,if you are unsure.
Brings a tear to my eye......all this love for XP -
A little more love, just created a new driver pack containing most of the updates that have been talked about, and offering two methods for AHCI / SATA installation with full instructions on everything where possible.
I made a separate thread so people don't have to sift through this and the other thread, as most of the good information in both threads are deep within them (rather than on the first page) which makes it pretty hard for a new user. Trust me I learnt the hard way. But they were very helpful nonetheless, and hopefully I've made it a little easier for future users trying to achieve the same thing I did.

Full driver pack is included, hosted on my server, and available for download now. -

you DO NOT have to do embedded drivers (SATA), it just saves time infront of the computer, and keeps you from switching to ATA.
For quickset i installed the ones for the m1330 on this thread, the m1530 is almost identical to the 1330, so use those drivers if you do not get things right
Another thread on drivers (1330)

Would downloading (or providing) a link to download a XP SP2 Dell OEM copy be against the NBR rules? It's just using that makes install of XP a freaking breeze.
-
updating the original post to point to the new driver pack compiled by Udi!

Could anyone explain me how to slipstream the different SP's for XP?
My XP disc is the original one, SP0 I think.
*edit* nvm, found a guide, will try that -
A quick question: how do you install the 3 drivers for the card reader? I can't seem to find the setup file???
-
Guide for slipstreaming is for instance here:
http://lifehacker.com/386526/slipstream-service-pack-3-into-your-windows-xp-installation-cd
I used Udi's pack together with some other drivers and it worked perfectly...
The increase in my 3dmark score is not as high as I expected, but the OS just feels a lot more responsive -
Yeah, it works great atm (even though my dad's OS language is French, I need the Dutch version). Can't figure out how to install the card reader drivers though. Could you explain that plz?
-
After wasting a day trying different drivers, I finally found one that works for those of us with draft N cards:
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=236819
Note that the installer does *not* work for this, and that this is not just an earlier version of the R174292 AGN driver pack, which does not include compatible drivers.
In order to make it work, download and unpack the R174291 driver pack (to C:\dell\drivers\R174291 by default). It will try to start automatically and the installer will crash. Then, under the broken device in Device Manager, right click 'Update Driver', install from a specific location, then include and browse to C:\dell\drivers\R174291\DRIVER_US and hit OK.
The card will show up as "Dell Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card". -
Good guide. nLite is also good for removing some garbage in XP you'll never need. You can click the "Components" box to see items that can be removed before slipstreaming the XP disc.
Some crap you'll never (probably) use:
* Movie maker
* Windows Media Player
* Annoying animated dog for windows search
I managed to get my installation down to 330MB after removing junk like that above. -
I'm pretty sure someone has done this before.
@chroma: is that for the Dell N-card or the wireless AGN?? -
GF[BE]-
I replied to your question in my thread. Try that and see if it works.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3414593
Should be the 2nd last post.
That should let you install the drivers whether or not the device shows up in device manager. I'm not sure why it's not though, one thing I can suggest is check in BIOS whether the media card reader is enabled. It should be by default though.
Hope you get it working, my card reader is working fine in XP. I'm using a memory stick in it as I type. -
Hey, I'm having a tiny problem. Where can I find the fingerprint reader software. I got the driver from the package, but where is the software?
-
From the companies website direct. I think it is Upek?
-
I tried it. But it says I have to buy it, make any sense?
