bmp41083....you are a god !
Many thanks!
My M1530 has now been fully upgraded to XP with your help.
Just a couple of things that didn't quite work straight away....
I used XP Media Centre edition that comes on 2 disks. nlite knew this and asked me for the second disk. I burned the iso to a DVD and included the drivers just within their directories.
During XP installation the usual screen asked me for Country settings etc.....but my keyboard and mouse pad didn't work!! I had no choice but to reboot and luckily next around they worked!
I then installed all the drivers I could from the downloaded zips.
Sound Driver didn't work. So I installed R181712 instead (from Dell's M1330 XP drivers) and that did the trick.
Bluetooth was a pain. I ended up installing "anycom-bluetooth-usb200-250-windows-v5-1-0-4200" and that seems to be working.
There's no unrecognised items in Device Manager now and so far things seem to be working perfectly. Just installing Service Pack 3 as I type. It's great to be back to XP. Now I'm going to install Linux on it and do dual booting....wish me luck! -
Looks like I've done everything and it's good to go.
At this point, I have two problems. One minor, one a little more severe.
At boot up there are two things that are always trying to install. I'll need to take note of their names next time, but possibly something like OEM and then some numbers (OEM2322).
Also, I have the standby issue. When I go into standby, I'm finished. I gotta turn it off and back on again. Has there been a consensus on how to resolve this issue? I loaded all the drivers that were in the two part set on the first page, so I have the video driver and the chipset.
Anyone have any suggestions? -
OEM02Mon
Apoint.exe
Those are the two files that try to run at each startup.
And still, I'm yet to recover from sleep mode. -
I'd like to thank everyone that contributed to this thread and gathering the drivers necessary to make this work. My XPS is now running XP pro, thank you.
A few issues I've run into:
My computer came with a dell wifi card, and obviously the driver in the driver pack isn't for the dell card. I tried 2 different dell drivers with no results. Eventually I stumbled on the DELL_MULTI_DEVICE A17_R174291 file which successfully installed the dell wifi card. If you don't have an intel wireless card, this file hopefully will work for you too.
My second issue is bit weird...I'm getting a bit of a stutter in the windows XP start music, sort of similar to what a computer with a DMA problem or not enough RAM sounds like when it starts up. There's just a brief "stutter" when the computer hits the desktop. Anyone have any suggestions on that one? Should I try a different audio driver?
Thanks!

Hi All,
I installed Win XP SP2 on my DELL XPS M1530.I followed the below steps
First disabled “Flash Cache” and set SATA AHCI mode in BIOS to SATA ATA mode. After i installed Win XP SP2 when i tried to install SATA AHCI driver i got the message "system does not meet minimum requirements".I got the rest of the drivers installed,Win XP is working fine with one problem RAM is showing as 3.5GB when the actual is 4GB.Looking forward for a resolution.
Thanks!!

I know what to do, have all of my drivers on a disc, and backed up my files, but can I use an XP home edition re-installation disc from my older computer? I was reading all over the internet and they said it's fine, you would just need to call Dell to get it activated. Is this true?

I am trying to install XP on my 1530. Since I do not have a floppy drive, I will going the slipstreaming route.
Which AHCI driver(s) should I include? UDI mentions in his readme (Method 1) to use 82801HEM/HBM (Mobile) driver. This driver is in both iaahci.inf and iastor.inf. Which one should I use?
Further, my XPS 1530 device manager shows another storage controller - "ICH8M Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 2850". Do I need to add this also while slip streaming?
Thanks, -
