Anyone done this sucessfully with a SOLID STATE HARD DRIVE?
I only see mention of SATA on this thread. Admittedly I perused it quickly but I'm in a hurry to get started on downgrade. My OS failed today, which gives me the perfect excuse to install XP but I've been putting off researching if it will work with my solid state drive.
Anyone pull it off?

edit:
new complete driver package found here: (Many thanks to Udi for compiling this package!)
http://www.uditha.de/assets/Udi_M1530_XP_Drivers.exe
This thread is dead from Post 1 too.
Tried the nlight thing process.
I don't get the part where it says in the instructions "now we get to ad the SATA atric drivers...." "You will need to run the executable file you downloaded"
Which executable? I was only able to download the two zip files from the first two links on post 1. The other two are dead links.... -
One of the links is fixed in the 3rd post:

All,
Tomorrow I will be unboxing my wife's new XPS M1530 and I have a couple of Vista/XP dual boot questions. I just made a post in a thread on that topic elsewhere in this forum and would appreciate anyone with any expertise and/or experience with this subject taking a peek at it.
Thanks,
Phil
Update: OK, the part above is irrelevant. I decided to just go ahead and format the "C" partition and install XP Pro there. I've followed all of the instructions to a "T" and everything has worked just fine save one item - for some reason I still have a yellow question mark "USB Device" and I have no clue what it is... Anybody have a suggestion while I continue to fiddle with figuring it out?
Update 2: This computer has a "PCI Express" slot. We own a Sierra Wireless 881 WWAN card that is a standard PCIMCIA slot card. I tried to gently insert it but I wasn't sure if the resistance I felt was just the mechanism inside, or if perhaps this thing won't fit. Can anybody tell me for sure whether my card will fit or not? -

Hi guys,
I succesffuly dual booted my XPS 1530 except for one glitch that I am facing.
Whenever I shutdown or restart my windows XP, i am getting a message something like this:
**********************************************************
The memory at "0x15530" accessed memory at "0x15530". The memory cannot be written.
**********************************************************
Any idea on how to solve this?

Ok I've got an issue, once I burn all the XP files and drivers to a disk, I reboot, hit F12, and it tells me to choose, I choose to boot from a CD/DvD Disk, and it says to hit any key to boot from it.
So I hit a key, and it just stops, it doesn't do anything, the little underscore just sits there blinking like it's mocking me.. Can anyone help me out?
Edit: Gonna try to reburn the files, perhaps it didn't do it properly last time.
Edit: Ok, the reburning of the CD fixed it, and everything runs flawlessly. Now I just need to decide if I want to dual boot it with Vista or Leopard.
Thanks for all the help OP! -

If I delete the MediaDirect partition from Vista and create a new partition, can I follow the instructions from 1st post, but installing XP on the new partition?
that way I will be able to dual boot without reinstalling Vista, right? -
Hello,
Not sure if this have been covered but what happens if I press the Media Direct button?
I have installed WinXP on a brand new disk so the Media Direct partition does not exist. I'm reluctant to put this to the test as I think I've read someone having problems where it goes into an endless boot->fail to boot sequence.
Can someone please clarify? -
Im having a problem, when im trying to add the driver in nlite i dont see ich8m i see ich8r, and ich9r. is that the one im supposed to use?

I just (today) installed Windows XP Pro SP2 on my 1530 and I'm having some trouble installing the drivers... I installed all of the mandatory ones in Udi's pack except for Touchbad, Card Reader and (maybe) audio (I don't remember if I did it or not, but the audio works). I slipstreamed in the AHCI drivers beforehand. The device manager, though, still lists three "Base System Device"s and a "PCI device". I'm guessing that the Base System Devices are the card reader: one each for MMC, MS, and xD, but I don't know is which. All are listed as PCI bus 3, device 9, and functions 2-4. I would assume that PCI device is the touchpad but Windows says that it is not.

Hey, I recently installed XP on XPS and I have some issues.
First, I have no MIDI output. I installed the audio drivers and they work for sound just fine, but for whatever reason I just have no MIDI. I can't find any solutions, as it seems like a rare case. The first picture is the audio section of the control panel, the second is the device manager.

Also, I have no idea what the three errors in the device manager are (ESPECIALLY biometric coprocessor,) any advice would be great.
Thanks! -
Hey everyone...So I'm an idiot and I formatted my external hard drive by accident, losing everything! I couldn't see multiple options for the partitions though, all I saw was a partition on my external hard drive. I was wondering why I'm not getting any options like I should be. Thanks!

The reason I wanted to do this among many is that I am a gamer and Vista is just not near as responsive as it should be with certain games, so I am testing this out to see if it works. So far so good. If needed I can make a ISO of the install disc and put it up somewhere,
NOTES:
Used the install disc with SATA support and everything is working! Thank you nLite!
Windows XP sp2 installed perfectly. I will keep this updated as far as the drivers etc. -
Well everything worked EXCEPT..... Whenever I ran the chipset install it will now not start up explorer.exe Any suggestiong anyone? Of course by the time anyone responds i will have it fixed probably lol

Hi all,
After reading all the posts from this thread, I will be converting my OS from Default-OS Vista to XP Pro SP2. when I receive my new laptop. The reason due to some software, I need to use for work only will be able to install and run in XP platform.
I hope to get some help from the expert here, if i ever run into errors. Keep my finger cross.. ehehe.
I'm really looking forward for my new toy. after stay with DELL 640M for 2 years. Dell really made good and affordable laptop..No doubt about it !
Cheers -
At last, I've decided to withdraw my order from DELL and proceed upgrade my others 3rd parties software to be able to use others OS e.g VISTA 32 / 64bits / Window 7.
So that I've more option to choose in the future when I plan to upgrade my PC. -
Well, I went through the process with my new XPS M1530 and everything worked right up to using the arrow keys to select which drive I wanted to do what with. The keyboard was dead! Even F3 to quit did not work. What went wrong? Geeeeez, I was so stoked that this was all going so well . . .
I used the Udi driver set.
Thanks for any help here! -
I'm not sure I've been posting to the right place as I got no response to an issue I had using the Udi driver pack. Well, I figured it out (my bad) and it went great. Everything works. Udi is a saint!
I do have a question, though. When WP finished installing and before I installed all the device drivers, the track pad worked noticably more smoothly than it did with the original Vista Ultimate OS. Then after I installed the "correct" driver, it went back to its erratic behavior of skipping and requiring just a little extra effort to get it to stay on track.
So should I disable the new driver, and if so, how do I do it without messing it up worse?
Thank you!
