@thenriques45
just managed to get the L502X fan speed working at 100% after reading your post![]()
Updated the first post with extra info![]()
it is based on timewalker previous post on this topic, however I needed to make some changes to make it working ^^

@mestresan
glad to see someone tested it
mmm, well, maybe someone can create an app wich make it automatically or else create some script RWE script like timewalker said.
however, I am ok with the auto speed, I only use it when I use some intensive games to ensure the OC and hte performance.
but yeah, having it allways at fullspeed like theenriques45 said may not be a good idea. -
so...
but in full speed, the temps stay very low ... it's good...
I know that the lifetime of the fan would be reduced ... but perhaps compensate.
In the BIOS there are options for thermal control, to control speeds, however, could not fit through there ...
thanks -

The latest driver 331.65 seems to have reduced my max overclocking frequency yet again , now to 685/1800/900

Hello everybody , i come with my problem like others, then I'm playing League of legends , game freezing and the only solution is restarting pc . I'm geting to flash bios with your guide , I have 540m video card , but first of all I have one question , If I want to reainstal Windows 7 from booting cd , this new bios can cause some problems or no ? If Yes , what should I do? and what do you mean with this? ( note: installing windows 7 or 8 with UEFI option enabled may cause issues like crashes while using the BIOS controlled hotkeys such as brightness, keyboard, wiki etc, this has been reported by NeoMesal and agalin, extra info here ) ? how to avoid it?
-
I am waiting someone replly this, because i'm tired of that freezing problems .
-
@tocioniukas
well, you can avoid those issues by just disable the uefi option on modded bios, anyway it is disabled by default, it is a value that can be enabled only with the modded bios
if you feel better reinstalling do it.
try the v5 version for the 540m with 0.83v 0.85v
if you keep experiencing crashes, check the temperatures and repaste and remove the dustfilter if neccesary.
if you keep experiencing crashes after using modded bios and do those hardware tricks, you will have to underclock the gpu a little.
once you fix the crashes issues, you can get a little more performance on league of legends by setting the ammount of prerendered frames to 8 with nvidia inspector at the league of legends profileagalin and tocioniukas like this. -
@tocioniukas 4 hours isn't long time to answer. Be more patient
Modified bios doesn't generate any problem with installing Windows.Default setting of modified BIOS are with disabled UEFI, so you'' not have any problem.
Edit. @capitankasar was minute fastercapitankasar and tocioniukas like this. -
thanks for your answer , where can i find this settings? league of legends profile - it is a game menu ?
I am gona use this :
Custom voltage moded A12 bios mod for gt540m with advanced menus for L502X DOWNLOAD from mediafire /// MIRROR by ximinez
MD5 checksum: 022D368DE178C92DF012CFD3143AE49B
BIOS version used: A12
this bios mod has been tested by Doixdd shrikant, zulqar, abhizok, NeoMesal, daver160, dakhan89, victorluan,gilipollas,FlipBack and felipeap92
2D PROFILE: 0.83v
3D PROFILE: 0.85v
notes: Voltage modded A12 BIOS for gt540m with a nice set of extra options,plus native speedstep and updated CPU microcode,intel vbios update to v2137 and sleep FIX for OSX, handle the new options carefully!Recomended! -
@tocioniukas
nope, it isnt an ingame setting.
you will need an updated nvidia inspector.
here is the procedure to set 8 to the max prerendered frames
note, this just improves the framerate, but it doenst fix the crashes.
oh, also set the base GPU profile power management to max performance
edit: yeah, that is the BIOS I suggested -
-
@tocioniukas
try reading voltages with HWMONITOR instead nvidia inspector
or that no new menus appeared at the BIOS? -
Yes , I only flash the bios and nothing change in settings i keep it default . I play 5 games and no one crash , performance realy better then before, Thank you dude , may god bles you !

@tocioniukas
glad to know it helped
you can go to the bios proccesor options and enable fast strings for a little bit more of performancetocioniukas likes this. -
I cant find it , this option is in main or advanced ?
Edited: i find it, thank you very much !capitankasar likes this. -
one more question, if i reinstall windows , do i need install moded bioses again ?
-
operative system goes to the hdd/ssd, bios stay into the motherboard flash chips
you dont need to reflash.
anyway, ensure uefi option is off before install the OS, else you may have some issues later.agalin and tocioniukas like this. -
But if you install from USB, in default install media config even if you enabled UEFI, it's impossible to install in that mode - USB drive just won't boot.
-
thera was a one interesting thing, sudenly my screen go black one second and restored, and windows start line changed to blue from clasic aero theme , i must restart pc then it hapaned, whati is the problem?
-
Seems like video driver crash. You can check logs in Event Viewer.
-
but this happened then i am surfing in the internet, not playing games
-
Yes and it seems to me like INTEL video driver crash. That's why I said about Event Viewer - there should be more info.
-
anyway ensure your Discrete GPU isnt using desktop apps, you can check it at the nvidia gpu activity icon
-
. I've noticed with nvidia inspector that when i do crash, the voltage would go back to default voltages. If i were to underclock what should i put it on? Thanks!
-
@dr3songz
well, first I would ensure that the GPU isnt using any desktop app by checking the nvidia gpu activity icon (if the icon is not there, you can enable the icon by going to the nvidia control panel and enable it)
If you have the 540m, I would try the version5 0.83v/0.85v since it fix many of the crashes.
if it still crashing after those stuff, use msi afterburner to underclock the GPU a little -
So far so good, i had my adobe program thingy working of the GPU so i fixed the settings. With my clock on default and with the recommended bios its seems to be fixed. I will continue testing on GPU intensive games but you are a life saver! Thanks! I thought this problem would never disappear!
Edit: Unfortunately it didn't work on default after awhile and crashed with the buzzz sound.Welp ill never buy xps again and ill just build a desktop. What settings should i under clock it though? and maybe i did something wrong?
capitankasar likes this. -
This crash can be RAM related - I had crashes with sound too when my ram was damaged..
-
@dr3songz
do what agalin said , to ensure it isnt a RAM issue try software like memtest86+
download the latest version iso file, burn it to a disk, and boot the machine from it.
then leave it running the whole night, at the morning, you will know if it is a ram issue or not depending on the results. (if there are 1 error or more on all the tests, your ram is not good at all)
else, you will have to downclock the GPU.
if you have a 540m your core is running at 672 or 675, my advice is lower it to 650 mhz, if it keep crashing, lower it to 625 mhz, and it you keep having issues, lower it to 600 mhz or less if required. (anyway keep in mind, the more you downclock, the slower your graphics will be on game by getting sightly less FPS)
you can also lower the GPU memory if required, by default it is on 900mhzagalin likes this. -
I have new problem, then i am start playing lol, the game cleint crashes on loading screen then i am reach 100%, trying to reconect, but nothing happened
-
@tocioniukas
not all crashes have something to do with the bios or the GPU ^^
it never crashed for me at the loading screen, just once with a modded client and imcomplete files.
the air client crashes sometimes for me, for that reason I disabled the discrete GPU ussage on the league of legends air client and launcher, and just enabled it on the game, and it works fine.
this can be made by opening nvidia inspector, going to the league of legends profile and remove all other exes like lol.launcher and others except league of legends.exe
remove all of exes except this one.
the save changes
now you will have to manually set all the other executables like lol.launcher and any other using GPU to integrated graphics using the nvidia control panel.
that will allow to focus the dedicated GPU just on the gameitself for better performance.
you will have to set again the new executables after each patch to intel graphics, at least in my case (because I have my nvidia card configuration to use any 3d app by default ^^)
well, anyway this will only improve the performance for you like setting the maximum prerendered frames to 8 on nvidia inspector.
the crashes itself may be related to corrupt game installation files, corrupt drivers, or any other program interfering, (something similar happened to me while using an outdated version of lolrecorder, wich is basically a thirdparty app wich allow to save matches into really small files and watch them later using your LoL client moving the camera free over the map, like an expectator.
well, I would try to update your graphic drivers, and repair the game installation, I am running the nvidia 314.22 drivers without any issue, I know those are not the latest drivers, but since I have many custom configurations for many games, I dont want them to be deleted after each driver update. -
Hi Capitankasar
I'm using your modded bios since december 2012 and my system as become a bit unstable recently.
I can no longer enter bios on startup (Windows boots directly, no system info page displays). I use to be able to.
My game fps is decreasing overtime (not sure if it's due to important game updates, new 3d materials and such)
I frequently drop from servers, get lag and choke.
Also, I Can no longer use or install Intel Turbo Boost Technology Monitor (Installer doesn't recognize my i7 cpu). CPU-Z is not working either (even with a fresh install). So I have no ways to know my cpu frequency and if Turbo Boost is working.
Here's the setup again:
L502X
GT525M driver : 320.49
Intel Core i7 2630QM @ 2.0Ghz / 2.9 (turbo boost)
Running Modded A12 Advanced BIOS (85v - 85v)
MSI Afterburner OC @ 700mHz
NOTE: I did no major changes in my system and programs. I run CCleaner frequently. I scanned for malwares. I turned off all unnecessary background programs and startup programs. All power savings options are set to PERFORMANCE (Windows and BIOS). Windows Updates and Nvida Driver updates. That's all.
I'll run a defrag to see if it helps.
I even got a faster internet connection.
Do you have any ideas what to look for? Should reflash my BIOS with a new version?
It feels like my system is not performing as it should. I get 80 - 120fps in CSGO with all video setting set to LOW and Nvidia settings set to PERFORMANCE. I remember getting similar fps rendering prior to all the mods and OC stuff...
Besides game, system is doing OK. I have no problems surfing on the internet, stream or download.
Thanks -
@denimboy
if your system boot directly to the system, you may have fast boot option enabled on BIOS, else try reflash the BIOS, you can use the BIOS recovery cdrom if you have issues with the BIOS, then flash the BIOS from the recovery, and then your desired modded BIOS.
yeah, I would try reflash the bios.
also the GPU driver version may influde on the performance
I also suggest you flash the V5 version of the bios mod, wich is the latest and the one wich include most fixes.
I can see you are using also a 525m and 0.85v/0.85v and the 700 mhz OC, wich are the Exact same settings I have on mine,
well, I have the v5 version, the 314.22 drivers (with some custom driver parameters for some via nvidia inspector) and also BCLK overclocking (wich got unlocked by some hardware mods.
you have a better proccesor than me anyway
also ensure your system dont overheat while gamming.
I noticed some huge FPS decreasing some time ago, and I noticed the temps were getting higher than usual making the proccesor to underclock itself.
I took appart the unit, cleaned all the dust from the heatsinks and the fan, and the problem got fixed.
keep the cooling system working properly at this system is really important.
if you still experiencing crashes after repaste and clean the dust from the heatsinks, try the new reseach I did for the L502X fan speed.
set the 0x60 value to 02 to enable set the fan speed to 100%
you have more details at the first post.
if I manage to know how to flash stuff on the EC region of this laptop with conventional methods, I may be able of relase a newer version of the BIOS with new function keys.
for example when you press FN+6 you toggle the fan speeds to 100% or automatic like prema did on his bios mods. -
@ Capitankasar
Thanks for the reply.
I also noticed increased heating in the last few months (with fps drop). I will try to clean or remove the fan filters as indicated in your post.
I was able to access BIOS by tapping F11 or F12 and yes, Quick Boot is Enabled. That is why I didn't see it.
Also, I can not see any setting to Enable or Disable Turbo Boost Technology. (Which I should according to different websites). Turbo Boost Technology Monitor pops an error that says it's Disabled. The gadget is working though and I can see it never reaches 2.9 GHz. I'd like to have it Enable.
I will reflash with V5 version and see if it helps. (btw which one is it? All bios are named A07 - A12)
What is wrong with using the lastest Nvidia drivers? Isn't it supposed to fix performance issues and such?
I always configure it to performance anyways. I don't have the knowledge to tweak it with Nvidia Inspector.
Thanks -
@denimboy
well, I didnt mean that nvidia drivers are the cause, but if you experience issues after drivers update, there are some chances it could be the cause ^^
well, tweak games with nvidia inspector is quite easy, it is like tweak them at the nvidia control panel, however you have way more options on nvidia inspector.
just check my previous posts with nvidia inspectors screenshots, make adjustments is quite easy, you can disable also some effects to make games faster.
I increased the max prerendered frames on LoL and some other games, wich gave positive results especially on LoL wich make the whole gamming experience way smooth and responsive.
about turboboost, it may is disabled on the bios, many people get a little confused with the extra/unlocked options from this BIOS and they have some issues sometimes after tweak them.
well, after flash the version5 of the BIOS mod, try reset the bios setup settings to default , save them, and check if the software keep asking turboboost is disabled.
my proccesor is just a crappy i3 without turboboost, all it have in my situation is a little of overclock caused by BCLK increase on my system, but no turboboost on it, so I cant make tests by myself, srry. -
-
well, I forgot to add the version number on the mods.
my v5 mod has been relased only for A12
anyway here is yours
download link
here is the md5 code if you want to search it at the first post

I basically name all the packages with the same name
laptopmodel_biosversion_gpu model mod_2dvoltage_3dvoltage_"mainfeature"_modversion.rar
example
L502X_A12_525m_85_85_Unlocked_Menus_v5.rar
oh, and like I said, this is the BIOS I am running at the moment, it works perfect for my 525m with those voltage values ^^ -
@ capitankasar
I just flashed the bios. I found the Turbo Boost configuration in this one! (Maybe it was hidden because I had SpeedStep Disaled?)
Anyways. I'll tweak things a bit in inspector and let you know if I get any improvements in game.
Also, the fan cleaning procedure seems a bit tricky. Do I need to disassemble everything ? Or is accessible in a few steps? -
@denimboy
maybe you was using one of the old bioses with locked menus instead the new unlocked ones, yeah, speedstep probably control the CPU frecuency, I disabled it on my i3 since it doesnt have turboboost and it changed clock speeds while I wanted to have it on max freq allways
yeah, keep speedstep on in your case.
well, take appart the laptop can get some of your hours.
about how to take appart the unit, there are two links at the first post of this thread.
here you have them anyway

forum guide (edit, whoops, seems the pics are dead >.<)

my advice is that after repaste, disasemble also the FAN chasis and clean the dust from inside the metallic part.
remove also the dust filters if you didnt yet, it will improve things too by improving the airflow -
@ capitankasar
It works fine! I got some fps back and everything runs smooth. I'm pretty sure Turbo Boost is helping.
Thanks a lot man!capitankasar likes this. -
you are welcome
-
ill be trying different clocks and play around with it till i find the best setting. I think its different for all games too and the fps loss isn't too bad. Maybe around 2 -5 fps but the new drivers help it so much, it acts like its running on the highest clock. It just sucks that i can't use my computers greatest performance
. Just wondering, are u able to overclock the CPU? Because i want to play Planetside 2 which is CPU heavy but my i5 can barely cut it. Thanks for the help!!
capitankasar likes this. -
@dr3songz
well, the performance loss depend how much you underclock
is not the same reduce the core 20 mhz than setthe core to 200 mhz
basically the more you underclock, the more performance you will lose.
relating CPU overclock, yeah, I enabled BCLK overclocking on my system, it isnt the best for ocing the machine, but it helps anyway.
if your i5 cant handle planetside 2, just imagine my crappy i3
with the BCLK OC I just was able to get a 100 extra mhz for each core.
it helps, but it isnt enough, I had to edit game config files and edit some stuff to make it playable.
on small fights it run perfect, but on big battles, its really hard to kill something with that poor performance >.<
in your case, having an i5 with turboboost will run way better than me, anyway you can also tweak the game a little to improve performance -
Hmm... Anybody on Windows 8.1 tried installing new version of Synaptics drivers for L521x? Version for Windows 8 works nearly perfectly, but new doesn't install properly on my PC. Installer says that all went ok, but no Synaptics software is really installed.
Same situation with driver for Lenovo notebooks - version for Win8 works (but has less features than from L521x) and for 8.1... Same issue here. -
Well The currently stable clock settings for me is at least 525 900 which sucks
At least games I play the most like LoL runs at max but newer games are just gone
Is there any other way I could fix this? Could you also explain why this problem exists? Thanks!
-
@dr3songz
well, that arent good clocks for gamming, but well, at least you managed to get it stable.
if you already tried the hardware mods suggested on this topic, and the undervolted BIOS, you are out of luck. only motherboard replacement in hopes of getting a more stable chip.
about this problem, I can only have some hypotetical theories.
this problem is well known on the L502X machines, specially at the 540m
my theory is that those chips are just bad clocked and also the voltages arent really acurrate.
in many cases, the 540m is just a bad OCed 525m, because the 525m have the exact same chip the 540m have, the 540m just come with more video memory sometimes and a different standard clocks.
another theory is what @chis89 said: overheating voltage resistors.
he posted a fix for this issue.
I copied his fix at the first post, the fix basically involves add small heatsinks to those voltage regulators to keep the temperatures acceptable and prevent them from fail.
I didnt tested this mod yet, but I am planning to do this mod next time I take appart the machine. -
Thanks for the help anyways! I wish I had looked in much deeper before buying this computer. At least i've learned and im planning to get a custom desktop which would be much better than a laptop for gaming. Its funny though that games like battlefield would play very poorly but the new arkham origins runs well. Its a good thing I only play games that are low on graphics like League of Legends, mine craft, or black light ret. Again thanks for the help!
-
well, this isnt a bad laptop, I really love it, the design, the touch buttons, the subwoffer, the battery lever led indicator and a lot of stuff it have ...
this laptop had some issues for me since the begining, however I managed to fix all of them in my case and I made this bios topic and posted into another ones to help people with this laptop.
