I'm still working guys, don't worry, I'll provide a good official website for L502X modded BIOS and a better cloud storage provider.

I will try to release a detailed changelog, and tell you what to test in priority in order to get the most stable BIOS possible.
I'm actually able to fix any problems that you could get with the BIOS and I'm looking to develop some advanced features and fix every bugs like any computer engineer (Asus, Dell, Lenovo) will do for their current products (motherboards).

So I really want to give you guys a continued and reliable support for the Dell XPS L502X System.

    Regards,

Don't have to make a website and all because the no of users of this device keeps getting lower. Just saying.

    Thanks for your effort.

Nice work. I'm still using a Dell XPS L502x though. Can you upload it for testing? I can't find a link to your Modded BIOS.

Just like to say, have been using the modded BIOS (A11 .85v Undervolt) for my L502X for some time now, over the course of the years, I have only had a handful of power loss issues, literally about 10 times in total which is nothing really.

I recently re-applied thermal paste and placed new thermal pads (had to cut them thin). And the laptop is running like new once again. This laptop has served me well since 2011. It's amazing how long it has lasted me considering it was being used HEAVILY for rendering videos (hitting high 80's low 90's daily! For months and months on end). And when it wasn't working, it was being left on to watch movies and Youtube...

    Sandy Bridge is a beast..

I have a PC now which has an Intel Haswell-E 6 Core 5820K watercooled. Ironically, I overclocked it and it died the next day lol. Got it replaced and left it stock, but I'll miss the days of hitting 90c+ and not even sweating the long term effects...

I use my laptop for movies and surfing now. No more hard work, my laptop is living the life....

@CaptainKasar, I truly appreciate your work, wish you all the best in whatever you're doing now..

This, so this (except for this beast has been my main system for programming and gaming). Would love to see some new life-force for this baby over here.

Thanks for reminding me to thank @CaptainKasar. You've brought purpose the the Dell XPS L502x. Thanks man.

The modded BIOS files are still online. I downloaded them yesterday from the mediafire links and they worked. I had to disable my adblock plus in chrome to be able to download them.

Once again thanks capitankasar for your work on the L502x, i´m still using it as my main computer everyday since years!

P.S.: I have a i7-2630qm if someone is interested. It was the original cpu from my l502x before i upgraded to a i7-2670qm. Not that big step, but when you get it for free why not use it.

Still waiting on the proposed BIOS update. Mine came with the i7-2670QM.
My current stable system setup is:
    BIOS
    ====
    Version: A11 0.83v/0.85v.
    Fast Strings: ON.
    Turbo Mode: OFF
    Memory Clock: 1333MHz
    Total Gfx Memory: Max.

    Hardware
    =======
    CPU: i7-2670QM.
    RAM: 4GB.
    GPU: GT 540M.
    Display: 1366 * 768.

    Software Mods
    ===========
    OS: Windows 8.1 Enterprise.
PowerPlan -> High Performance: Maximum Processor State = 80%.
    GPU Clock: 522Mhz(Graphics Clock)/700MHz(Memory Clock).
Dell Fan Control (I think it was posted at the first page of this thread).

I've been using this setup for quite a while and I get at most 5 crashes per week of heavy gaming. Seems quite stable to me. :)

I'm still on it, I've gone really far inside, I did reverse engineering the whole BIOS, I know mostly everything about the structure...
I'm really busy actually for some reasons irl, so I can't say right now when I will release the project.

Actually I went from scratch, and apply most of the things kasar did, but way better/cleaner.
Everything is updated, microcode, vbios, and also fixed some errors in the original BIOS.
It's compatible both for GT 525M and GT 540M, so it will be only one file, that's easier to manage :).

I've been testing the whole night a way to hack some binaries in order to being able to flash the modded BIOS under Linux (flash with FreeDOS), but seems unsuccessful yet...

Will definitely try for today or maybe tomorrow.
The version 1.0.0 that I'll release, will be ultra ultra stable, I tested it so much.

And my project will be hosted on GitHub, so you will get a Wiki, a Bugtracker, and so on.
I wrote some documentations, everything is looking very nice, that will help me to maintain and support the BIOS in the future (and maybe other bioses).

Still need to fix some bug typos in the BIOS menu, and test some builds on my Linux as I have replaced proprietary module with open source module inside the BIOS, I fixed big security issues too (entirely removed the Absolute CompuTrace rootkit).

The BIOS was ready to be released, but I found a critical bug... Once you flash my modded BIOS, you are not able to flash any other BIOS from Windows (modded or stock), I think I broke something in ACPI tables.

Will update when I get it fixed...

Running a 2430M/GT525M gpu settings @ 460core/695mem turbo off/on. Repasted aswell. Is that normal to have underclock that much? I just got this system off ebay and testing with Heaven Benchmark dx11/low. Very stable at those settings I let the benchmark run for 8 hours with no crashing. I take it these gpu's have a low lifespan because of the heat issues and this one performance has been damage from heat.

Correct. 525M. Not sure how much realistic performance is lost by the underclock. My 525M got the same number that is on Passmarks GPU charts. Still very competitive with the 4th gen integrated gpus. L502x is a great laptop for cheap on the used market.

OK, then. Have you tested it with the default clock/mem speeds? And also run the stress test with Heaven's benchmark? If its stable, the go Default.

I have tested the default clock speed and backed down until I got to 460/695 using afterburner. At default speed it will crash no more than 15 seconds into the first scene. Each setting I tried before 460/695 will last longer but will crash later on.

I'm using Kasar voltage mod with the extra menus. Nvidia inspector shows 0.850v. GPU temps stay in the 50's. It was doing the same thing before the voltage mod.

    What do you mean?

I'm actually taking over the modded BIOS project for the L502X (and BIOS-modding in general, I'm just focusing on this model, cause I bought mine on Ebay recently as main PC), so I would be glad to get any helpful information, so I can improve the overall stability even better.

Sorry, I meant it was crashing the same way before and after the bios mod. 10seconds into the heaven benchmark, the system totally locks up and I have to reset by holding the power button. I didn't test it more than once or twice before applying the bios mod thinking it was going to fix the crashing. I don't expect the bios mod was causing problems here was my conclusion. Google brought me to a forum post with a user that had a L502x with similar experiences and concluded the GPU was dying or damaged in some way and it couldn't reach default clock speeds anymore. I've had no issues once the clock speed is lowered thus far. This is a notebook I got for someone who had an Inspiron 1545 with a damaged screen. I didn't think it was worth anything to put that much into a 2009 laptop so I got this L502X.

Hmm, yeah indeed, if you tell me that it is crashing the same way both on the stock BIOS and modded BIOS, this is not looking good.
Actually the modded BIOS is using a really low voltage on the 3D Profile, and that could explains some crash when you are doing some benchmark or using heavy GPU oriented applications.

I could increase a lil' bit the voltage on 3D for the GT 525M (for more stability), but it's useless if you are experiencing the same crash on the stock BIOS provided by Dell.

I'm going to release my BIOS in a few hours, so keep tuned.

I had the same crashing issue till I lower my GT540M 3D Voltage to 0.85v. Even at that, it still crashes when I run very tasking CPU/GPU apps. :(

Anyways, I hope this new BIOS, courtesy of Thiblizz, would make our PC stable and efficient. :)

I updated everything on the Change Log, last thing to do is updating the Project's Logo, and I'll remove the current repo on my GitHub then adding the new one.

Remember to add ( star) my GitHub project to check for new updates, I'm happy that I'll release the first stable version, it's been long to do a "clean" project.

    Thanks again for the support.

PS: Sorry for the time I took to release the project, I just wanted to get the most clean looking and stable project possible.

Hi @Edwin Giovany Moreno . Could you please post your current system setup thats you used while testing this BIOS? E.g GPU Clock/Memory Speeds, BIOS Mod options (fast strings, e.t.c), OS, e.t.c.

This wold be helpful in compiling a stable etup for whch anyone can use. I'm currently testing @Thiblizz BIOS myself. I'll post my setup soon.

    Thanks.

Thanks for your quick feedback. So you used the default clock speeds. How do you test the BIOS? Benchmarking tool, games (which?), video converting...

Also, Average Temps, and Max Temps when doing those tests. Please...

Thanks. And to anyone also testing the BIOS, we'll need feedbacks. Thanks.

You're welcome mate, don't forget to post issues on my GitHub project if you are experiencing any problems. I'm here too support.

That would be awesome to compile the most stable BIOS setup possible, I would be happy to add it on GitHub as a standard configuration to use.

I'm glad that you guys enjoyed it :), the purpose on this BIOS is to get a system as stable as possible.

Thanks for your work on the bios refresh. The voltage drops do help I could not run the heaven benchmark with the stock A12. I still have to underclock to 460/690 but at the default voltage even that would lock up. I had no problems reflashing back to A12 off Dell Website from the modded bios and back again to the modded bios. Is there any way to flash the default frequency on to the G525M? I don't want to spend extra resources in windows with a program and I want to make it foolproof so someone can't erase the overclocking program. I get 54fps average @720p low with everything off in the heaven benchmark. Specs: 2430M/GT525M

600 Core / 900 Memory - Seems like the newer geforce drivers aren't good. Just kills my FPS like it kicking it back to the intel card.
