Yes, download the file mentioned in my previous posts and edit the .BAT pointing it to the new file:
FWUpdLcl.exe -f 7.1.80.1214.bin -allowsv
I used the same FWUpdLcl.exe and had no problem.

Intel ME does nothing special on a L502X. The l502x has no Intel advanced or security features on board. Intel ME is basically a software platform for Intels advanced features, mainly in business or premium devices to get remote controll and security hardware to work. But Cpt. Cazar tweaked his old l502x with hardware mods so he could unlock some Intel features like overclocking, voltage modifiying, ... these little tweaks are parts of Intel remote control features.
If you want a stable device, like the most users which are none-tweakers, there is no need to update neither the Intel ME driver nor the firmware.
Btw, I sold my Dell l502x and got 450€. Good deal. Was nearly in mint condition. These were last specification for which I sold it:
XPS 15 (l502x) / i7-2760QM / NVidia GT540m / B+RGLED 1920x1080 Display (AUO B156HW01 V4) / RAM: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10) / SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 250GB / HDD: 1TB Samsung Spinpoint M8 / Intel 7260 WiFi 2x2 / Dell 5540 (Erricson) WWAN+GPS
My main problem with this device was the high weight and no 4k external video support.Last edited: Jun 17, 2016 -
Wish someone will take this over and just fix the bugs and update the Intel VBIOS and micro-code and release a final version.

I have an l502x with the i7-2820qm and I'm looking to upgrade. i've babied this laptop so far and it has never let me down. ran windows 10 no problem. 8GB ram, backlit keyboard dual solid state drives (120gb + 160 GB). anyone got an idea on what I should ask for this pc?

Hi!
I have a Dell XPS L502X with i7 - 2670QM. I have been using the BIOS Mod.
I wonder if I can use a 1600MHz memory; 10-10-10-27 latency and 1.5 volts??? ( https://goo.gl/GMiHCy)
Thanks -
YusukeBR, there are people using 1600MHz RAM without any problems. But I'm not sure about latency and if they're using that version of CPU.

Hey all, been a while. I'm thinking of posting a BIOS update to the L511z, which is closely related to the L502x.
Could someone list the known bugs and latest Intel/Nvidia VBIOS versions for Sandy Bridge so I'll see if we can create a new package for both the XPS15 and XPS15z?

Hi guys. I have xps l502x with i7 2820QM processor and GT540M with freezing problem as many has. I am using modded bios 2D 8.3v 3D 8.3v and its stable only on 520MHz and memory 700MHz. Performance are awfull so I wanna try to install egpu solution to avoid using 540m at all. My main concern if it helps? Maybe problem in hm67 chipset and Ive still be getting that freezing problem...
Another question about processor. I made custom cooling for this notebook. Its serves now more for experiments than for actual use
temperatures seems pretty stable on gaming. I want to get i7 2960xm with unlocked multiplier. My main question there will I be able to overclock this processor on modded bios on dell motherboard? Thanks

Hey,
I think Intel latest VBIOS for Sandybridge is 2171

This is a nice site. Maybe you can take a look around. -
hi
when i go to setup bios i have just black screen , no problem with boot or boot option just i cant go to bios setup, i flashed original bios too but still i have problem and i cant flash moded bios again it say same version or old version.
please help me

Hi Captain Kasar and all, love your work. However installing your bios on my L502x (GT540m) has not solved my issue with games freezing. I have also replaced the thermal paste on the GPU, still the same problems. I have no idea what to do anymore, any help is greatly appreciated
-
Hello Captain Kasar And other Folks.
I'm a fan of you modded Bios and all other tips and updates in here but i am struggling with a problem here.
i removed the laptop motherboard from the case and i put 2 fans on it and i am getting 40 C temp and 70 max after long hours of gaming. but lately i see that crashes and freezes on this laptop is because of Changing P States and my pc freezes in that moments no matter what bios with what Voltages i use.
I could go over 800mhz on core(even hit 900mhz on 1v bios) and 1000mhz on memory and its fine until changing P states and i could not set it to P0 with Nvidia Inspector
tried it with (-forcepstate:0,0) on NvInsp and no luck. Btw I am using a external display.
if anyone knows how to force the P0 on this GPU plz let me know
in Semi-Advanced Thank you -
Hello Again, Shortly after posting this i spoke to someone and showed me this way that worked Perfectly
go to Nvidia Inspector Location and find (nvidiaInspector.exe.config) and rename it to some thing like (nqqvidiaInspector.exe.config) or anything els.
then open with Notepad (Notepad ++ is better) and find this line [ <supportedRuntime version="v4.0" ] and change 4.0 to "4.5" and then save
then create a Bat file at the NVINSP location and paste this lines
nvidiaInspector.exe -forcepstate:0,0
Pause
Exit
the reason for the pause is that you see if theres any error in the process. and then enjoy you GPU being at P0 all the time and this Reduce crashes Allot
I hope this helps some
-Shahryar -
Hey There
What Bios Version Are you using? try the 0.83 and 0.85 and then Use MSI after burner and down clock the core speed to 550 and then try
And What Temps Are you getting? if your getting 80+ try to set fan to maximum speed and then play
and if your game is not CPU dependent try disabling HyperThread and Turboboost that Helps Temps Allot
I hope this helps you -
how do i download this file Intel ME (7.0.something) to 7.1.80.1214 seems i cant find it
-
Guys thanks for all your effort, I really appreciate it.
Out of curiosity i have done a anti virus scan for BIOS mod zip file of 'L502X_A12'. Please find the report here https://www.virustotal.com/en/file/...dd0972c86ca8e60117de61cbecf547f1884/analysis/. Please confirm whether this zip is safe because i am kind of scared after reading this https://www.quora.com/How-can-I-detect-if-BIOS-has-been-maliciously-modified article. -
Anyone have a link to download the latest (A12) undervolting mod for gt540m? Every link I try is dead, and I'm suffering from the dreaded freeze and stutter while using 3D.
Thanks! -

Thanks. Feeling a little dumb now, for some reason my laptop wasn't handling the adfly links properly, so I couldn't download and thought the links were dead.
Still can't work at full clock speeds, even undervolted, but seems like underclocking a little makes the problem go away. -
Awesome! Can you please upload it?
Also, wonderful mods! I was able to use my GT525m as the primary card by setting that option to "PEG". Everything video-related is much faster now and the integrated graphics became disabled. Thank you so much!
Now I just hope that someday someone manages to workaround the "random color freeze" problem without having to underclock the GPU. I miss the old days when I was able to play games with my L502X. -
Hmm... For me, it doesn't loot to change anything really important. Intel still active (both Windows and OS X), just lost brightness controll in Windows. Additionally, Nvidia driver refuses to open config panel because there is no monitor connected. Did you use different driver or something?
-
I'm using the original NVIDIA driver (365.19). I also noticed that setting it to "PEG" did some weird stuff: second monitor on HDMI treated as laptop monitor; f.lux stopped working properly; sleep option gone from the shutdown menu. So I changed it to "PCI" and now everything is working fine. I'm just not sure if it is still using just the NVIDIA GPU, since the Intel Graphics are now enabled, too, but I think it is, because it looks like the performance improvements are still there.
-
Interesting.
It's probably not fully possible to disable Intel GPU. At least if you want to use internal LCD at all.
Anyway, I'll check PCI option too later.
It shouldn't do anything as there is no PCI card (PEG is PCIe = Nvidia) so probably system just selects no "primary" card at all somehow... -
Probably because the laptop doesn't have a MUX and therefore stuck in permanent Hybrid/Optimus or iGPU mode.
I'm surprised that switching to PEG doesn't soft brick the computer. -
Probably that's the case. About bricking... Looks like it's only "preference". Not requirement. That's probably why PCI option is working at all.
In PEG Windows reports no available resources for Intel but OS X works as always. -

Can anyone tell me what's the third chip(apart from gpu and processor) heatsink of L502x covers on mother board that is below processor Not the gpu.
And does it need the thermal paste change also?
please reply asap -
That's your Northbridge controller, it suppose to have an extension of the heatsink covering it with a piece of thermal pad on it. replace the all your thermal pads if you can.
(its the chip near the wwan/tv slot right?). -
i know this maybe be an old topic but... what is the most stable BIOS/voltage to play with atleast GraphicClock: 400 MemoryClock: 600?
can't even use 50% of all power of this notebook, getting frustrated... -

Can someone help me out? Whenever I flash a bios, the voltage doesn't seem to stick.. It shows 1.2v in hwmoniter.
EDIT: I was looking at the wrong thing.. Apparently my GPU doesn't show voltages.. Nvidia inspector though does.
My games still crash though. I have to underclock all the way down to 400. No matter what voltage I use. Any help here?Last edited: Nov 27, 2016 -
Okay, so here's what I've noticed.. Apparently, the voltage goes back to 1.0 and the clocks go back to the default value whenever a game freezes or crashes. Or that's what Nvidia Inspector tells me at least. Anyone know what's going on?

Hi i know its an old treat but this is the first time i tried to flash the modded bios on my xps with 525m, after flash it if i look up for the voltage on gpuz or nvidia inspector and only in idle will go to .83 but if its on load its goes to .98, i already check with the .85 / .85 bios and .83 / .83 both of them on load goes to .98 Can some one help me out with this
And other thing i change the ram speed but it doesnt show up like it change in cpuz still shows 667mhz per ram module -
I can't seem to use that driver version. The game i play the most is bf4 and the game seems to stop responding. Anyone recommend a driver version for w10 that is stable for the 540m? I'd really like to not have to underclock down to 400.
-
I had this problem back in 2013.
Uninstall NVIDIA drivers from Control Panel. Restart into Safe Mode. From Safe Mode, run Display Driver Uninstaller for NVIDIA. Install NVIDIA drivers (355.98) for your OS.
That should fix the problem.
CPU-Z shows data rate, not double data rate (DDR). 667 * 2 = 1334.
A few months ago, I started freezing again. The display driver wasn't recovering, causing BSODs. Stability was only restored when I refreshed my Intel drivers. So freezing is also caused by the Intel drivers. Their stability can degrade over time without any clear precipitating factors.
If you didn't follow my instructions, I highly advise that you do everything. But even if you do that, you might still freeze. Your GT540M could be worse than others. Stability is also game-dependent. The L502X is over five years old. The GT540M and HD3000 are bad GPUs; there's only so much you can do to work around that.
Aside from that: Disable Aero from Windows Personalization. Disable Turbo Boost from Windows Power Options. Disable V-Sync for BF4. Disable any external overlay programs. Set your Intel and NVIDIA GPU power management for maximum performance. Set your Intel 3D Preference to Quality. -
ok im gonna try and uninstall the drivers, but i cant use the newer drivers 376.19? if i cannot fix it that way a fresh install of windows and drivers should do it right?
-
Okay, so I actually reinstalled the driver and the game stopped crashing. But I have noticed something.. I cant' see anything in game. All the textures are glitching and flickering. And once I installed the newest Nvidia update, it went away.. I have tried installing 355.98 many times and it still kept glitching the game for me but when I use the newest driver, it stops glitching. Any ideas?
And also, why set the intel setting to quality? I've always set it to performance.. -
I haven't used 376.19. It should also work though. Definitely upgrade if you find that 355.98 doesn't work for a specific program.
You shouldn't have to install Windows again.
376.19 is clearly the right version if 355.98 doesn't work for you. But I never had flickering textures with any game that I played on the L502X. I don't know if the problem is the drivers or the game profile. I also don't care to check.
That specific Intel setting should be a non-factor. The idea is to limit your iGPU from downclocking and stalling on frame pass-through. I don't really think it matters though. The other settings are more relevant. -

Hello everyone,
First of all, big thanks to " capitankasar" and other members for making such an amazing project, I just got my baby XPS 15 L502X, over modded with the best hardware (including some hacks/tweaks on it).
The good news, is that I'm going to take over the project, and keep updating the bios forever (until I die x) ).
I'm developer and analyst about security stuff in real life.
I worked on this first build all night, if some of you guys could test it, it would be amazing, for now I really need to sleep, and then I'll will add a changelog later (It's based on the latest A12 build from " capitankasar" - GT 540M only - 1.83/1.85v).
In the future, I will host a website dedicated to the L502X, modded bios and tweaks.
Let's make this baby great again, I will not let you down guys!
PS: As soon as I got the first feedbacks from you guys on this first final "test version", I will improve it more and release one for GT 525M too.
Good night
.

Congrats on the initiative. I had an email alert on this topic, which I thought went dead until I found your update.
I have the very similar L511z, as you may have read from the bios mods topic. Keen to understand what you've added to kasar's mods (ie your change log) so I can incorporate it back into the 15z as well?

Thanks for taking this over.
Hope you can update the Intel vbios and other things.
